Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.
I would like to extend a warm welcome today to all the supporters. Since the last programme we have had several fixtures; St Helens Town away midweek and Daisy Hill at home last Saturday, The Daisy Hill game was set to be one to quickly forget with neither side playing good football, in fact it was plain ugly football at times with neither side being able to pass the ball or maintain control of two or more passes. The game ebbed and flowed around the central area of the pitch with supporters frustrated. This was a far cry from what had been witnessed at St Helens. The first goal came again from a Sandbach defensive error on 7 minutes, the ball gifted to Daisy Hill in fact Sandbach may have well just put it in for them such was the opportunity gifted. Unsurprisingly, Daisy Hill took full advantage and slipped the ball in to take a 1-0 lead via Matthew Knowles when neither side deserved a thing. Danny Bartle finished a neat cross in from the left on 27 minutes which came from the first decent piece of play slotting home to make it 1-1 and there was a glimmer of hope of further to come. Unfortunately, the further to come was a misunderstanding when Tommy Watkin passed back to Ryan Moss in goal only for it to be misjudged, an unpredicted bounce and stunned spectators all stood watching the own goal fitting of the game gifting Daisy Hill the lead once more. 1-2 Own Goal (33). With the second half under way and some managerial changes early in the half Sandbach eventually started to show some of the quality and pace from days before and it was not to be long before Sandbach were afforded a spot kick. Hammond confidently took the kick which was weak on target and well saved by the keeper. Sandbach though were now determinedly dogged and up for a win, this was to prove fatal for Daisy Hill who allowed a late free kick deep down the right wing. A superb delivery deep into the box and a quality finish from Matthew Pearson on (81) put great pressure on the visitors who were struggling in the last 10 minutes with Sandbach having telling pace and fitness. In the 90th minute Daisy Hill conceded a free kick in the same spot as before and surely they had learnt the lesson and would be prepared? Another superb delivery and this time Alfred Hammond the Salmon rose and hung in the air for an eternity heading across the keeper into the net. Superb goal and the clincher as the final whistle blew. An ugly win but an important one, after all, they all count. I hope you all sincerely enjoy the day and our facility. The reserves have kept the nucleus of the squad from last year, and joining them for the this season are Henry Baker, Lewis Barker and Joe Jones from our under 18s, also joining us this season are Nathan Brereton, Elliot Lane, Harry Nash and the experienced Dan Landstom returns to the club. The squad have played a number of competitive friendlies, struggling at times to get a full squad due to holidays and work commitments. They kicked off their season on the 13th August with a narrow defeat to Barnton Reserves. On the committee side, Myles Hanlon has re-joined the club to take on the secretarial role. The Sandbach squad much appreciate Mark Barrett at Grenville Engineering for his sponsorship, which will help us with our running costs. The reserves wish the first team all the best for the season in the new league, and will do their best to support them. The first two games for the reserves has seen two close encounters, the opening game against Barnton Reserves saw a 2-1 reverse, Kenny Mather getting the opening goal. Aidan Cox was ‘Man of The Match’. Their second game saw an exciting encounter drawing 3-3 with Winstanley Warriors coming back from 3-0 at half time, Eddie Hilditch scoring two and ‘Man of The Match’ Harrison Bostock getting the third.

ECCLESHALL v SANDBACH UNITED After going 1-0 down on the 8 minute mark in a midweek clash at the Eccleshall ground in Stafford, Sandbach United now sit at the top the Hallmark first division for the first time this season after two goals from Tom Watkin helped Sandbach to go on to win the game 6-1.

The origins of Prestwich Heys A.F.C. can be traced back to February 9th 1938 when a meeting was called at the Music Room of the Heys Road Boys School at which Elgar Lumsden put forward the idea of forming an Old Boys Association. Attending that first meeting were messers Bridge, Stott, Foster, Taplin and Alan Proctor Bell, who was to become a central figure in the Club’s history and whose progress he was to report on in the Prestwich Guide under the guise of ‘Touchliner’. Despite the onset of the Second World War a year later, the Association flourished under the Chairmanship of Bell, who also acted as Secretary of the football arm, known as Heys Old Boys AFC and was acknowledged as one of the region's best. The team went on to win its first honours in 1943 in the Prestwich and Whitefield League with the Woodward Shield – a success which was repeated for the next three seasons. The team gradually progressed through the Bury Amateur League and in to the South East Lancashire League claiming Championships in 1960, 1961 and 1964. Under the guidance of Peter Gilmour in the sixties, Heys won the prestigious Lancashire Amateur Cup in 1967 followed by the one and only Lancashire Combination Grand Slam in the 1970/71 season with Heys bringing all four trophies available back to Grimshaws. The club also changed its name in 1964 to Prestwich Heys AFC, an acknowledgement of the fame achieved by the club as they proved one of the nation’s top amateur clubs. Thousands flocked to see Heys play, and beat, the likes of Sutton United, Ferryhill Athletic, Finchley and Highgate United in the FA Amateur Cup with the clubs best run taking Heys to the last 16. The victory over Sutton United in 1969 ranks as one of Heys most famous moments, After relegation in 1996, the club bounced back with the Manchester League double of First Division Championship and Murray Shield built on the back of a record 19 league wins from the start of the season. After finishing runners-up to champions Royton Town in the 2003/04 season, the 2004/05 season saw Heys finally take the major prize of their first Manchester League Premier Division title. They followed this up by retaining their crown the following season with a 2-0 victory in their penultimate game of the season at Hindsford. In 2006/07, Heys made it a hat-trick of Premier Division titles and also lifted the Goldline Trophy after defeating Charnock Richard on penalties at the Reebok Stadium. However, on the eve of the 2007-08 season tragedy struck when Moran died whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka at the age of 43. It stunned the football community and left Heys reeling. Indeed, the following four years were marked by decline and successive relegation battles before, in 2011, Heys turned to former player Jon Lyons, who had played under Moran to resurrect their fortunes. Bottom of the table they collected 25 points from the last fifteen games to again stave off relegation. Heys have since made steady progress re-establishing themselves amongst the area’s leading clubs culminating in last seasons’ glorious record breaking season which sees Lyons lead his team back into the Hallmark Security League.
