Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.
The reserves travelled to Orford FC on Saturday 17th, for a cup fixture, they knew they were in for a tough game, having lost heavily to them a few weeks ago. The reserves had a full squad, with only Coxie missing from the starting line-up. The game started at a frantic pace and the young lads were holding their own against the more experienced team. Sandbach were playing good quick football with midfield three of Youds, Monks and Hilditch controlling the game, Broadhurst and Barker were causing problem down the flanks, and Bettley was holding the ball up well, and hit the post with a long range effort. Sandbach took the lead when Barker slotted home after a mix up in the Orford defence. The back four of Jackson, Berrisford, Evans and Landstrom were dealing with everything Orford threw at them. Sandbach were still creating chances with Bettley and Barker both going close to increasing the score. Half time came with the score still at 1-0 to Sandbach, the management stressed the importance of starting the second half strongly and to concentrate. The team started the second period well with Orford putting them under pressure quickly; Warbuton in goal was dealing with any efforts that came his way. After ten minutes Martin Evans had to come off with a back injury, with Nathan Brereton replacing him. Orford got an equaliser when Sandbach failed to deal with a corner. The young Sandbach team now had a massive task on their hands; they kept trying to play and were unlucky when cross from Barker went across the goal and no one could get on the end of it. Orford then scored a second from close range. This deflated the Sandbach players and you could see a lot of heads dropping. Bostock and Edwards came on to replace Barker and Monks. Orford were now controlling the game and the young Sandbach team were losing their shape and discipline. Orford then scored a third after a mix up in the Sandbach defence. Reid and Lane came on the replace Youds and Jackson. Sandbach had one last chance when Edwards broke through only to see his effort well saved. The game finished 3-1 to Orford; the lads had played really well in the first half but could not keep it up in the second half. They will continue to improve and try to play for the full ninety minutes. MoM: Jake Monks. Next game is away at Unicorn Athletic.
Whitchurch Alport 1 – Sandbach United 1 Sandbach United got their first draw of the season against league rivals, Whitchurch Alport in a tenacious game at Yockings Park. The deadlock was broken early on by Sandbach forward, Daniel Bartle. The striker snatched the ball from an unwitting centre back, putting himself one on one with the keeper. From this prime position, he then rolled the ball into the back of the net, making it 1-0 to Sandbach. The home side looked shaken and their mistakes were being readily pounced upon by Sandbach. However, as the game progressed, Whitchurch started asking questions themselves. A major chance fell into to them from inside the box but it was volleyed just over Joseph Grant’s crossbar. Sandbach responded when Mathew Pearson made a great tackle on the half-way line. He then drove directly at the Whitchurch goal, splitting the defence in half, however in the end his shot dragged inches wide of the mark. After the break, Whitchurch Alport made it 1-1. The captain, Simon Everall expertly dribbled past Sandbach’s fullbacks and then pulled it back to Mike Blundell who slotted home from close range. Whitchurch Alport where imposing themselves on the game, firing countless long-balls into the box. But, Sandbach were just as dangerous on the break. A great piece of interplay saw Jamie Morgan, Oumar Mballo and Thomas Waktin deploying some breath-taking tiki-taka football on the left flank and Jamie Morgan finished the move with a shot that was well saved. It was a well-earned draw for Sandbach United after a battling display against formidable opponents. Man of the Match: Nathan Jones – Faced a tough opposition, but his ruthlessness, determination leadership and composure, oversaw a great deal of Whitchurch chances broken down and nullified. Founded in February 2014 and based at Stockport Sports Village, the club began with ambitious aims to begin life in the football league at Step 6. Most teams begin life at Step 7. 24 months ago however, Stockport Town suffered a setback in their plans after being unsuccessful in applying for the league. After positive meetings, the FA told Stockport Town they were not convinced that the club met the required standards for a new club attempting to join the North West Counties. Despite this, the club board were convinced that a year of development would only benefit Stockport’s application chances. And so, on the 29th April 2015, three of the club’s representatives travelled down to Wembley to meet with the Leagues’ Committee. They highlighted how the club had been successfully run over the past year, with encouraging results against some high profile clubs from the region. Thursday 14th May 2015 will always be a historic day for Stockport Town Football Club, with news reaching the team late that evening the club’s place in the league for the 2015/16 season was confirmed. In 2015/16 the Lions finished 4th in the North West Counties League Division One. Despite beating eventual league winners Hanley Town home and away among some other impressive results, Town came up short in the Playoff semi-final, losing 2-0 against Bacup Borough.
