W Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.
In the Reusch Cup ties, highest scorers of the day were Stockport Town, for whom six different players got on the score sheet in the 7-1 win at Eccleshall. Two other ties were also won by the away teams, with manager James Tose getting the winner for Carlisle City in the 3-2 win at AFC Blackpool, and an extra time winner eased Chadderton to a 2-1 win at Bacup Borough, after the teams were tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes. In the other two cup games, two goals from Craig Redhead helped Holker Old Boys to a 4-1 win at home to Ashton Town, and first half goals from Ashley Reece and Carl Fitton clinched a 2-1 win for Prestwich Heys over Litherland REMYCA at Adie Moran Park. In the Premier Division, 1874 Northwich kept up the pace at the top with a 2-0 win over Abbey Hey, thanks to second half goals from Scott McGowan and Tom Bailey. Runcorn Town are third after a 4-0 win over Winsford United at the Pavilions, leading scorer Craig Cairns celebrating his September player of the month award with another two goals. Town’s neighbours Runcorn Linnets are tucked in two points behind them after a 2-0 win at Maine Road; Kyle Hamid and Daniel McKenna on target in the opening half hour. A Kieran Halligan goal six minutes from time earned Bootle a 2-1 win at Barnoldswick Town to keep them in 5th place, and Hanley Town continued their recent good form with a 4-2 win at home to Squires Gate; Dan Cope scoring a hat trick for Town. There were hat tricks in two other Premier Division games, with Isaac Kusaloka scoring his second treble of the season in Ashton Athletic’s 6-2 win against Congleton Town, and Padiham’s, Alex Murphy, also struck three in the 6-1 win at Barnton. Elsewhere, AFC Darwen and Cammell Laird 1907 shared a goalless draw, Connor Wright scored the only goal of the game for AFC Liverpool at Nelson, and on Friday night a last minute from Steve Mills earned Irlam a 2-1 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton. In the First Division, five of the top six were in league action, and City of Liverpool remain on top after a 2-2 draw at home to Daisy Hill. The Purples were two down with nine minutes remaining, but goals from Declan Gregson and Joseph Camozzi salvaged a point to keep them on top of the table on goal difference from Charnock Richard, who beat Cheadle Town 6-1 with six different players sharing their goals. Whitchurch Alport are in third place, a penalty from Mike Blundell earning them a 1-0 win at Atherton LR, and Alsager Town are fourth after a 3-1 home win over St Helens Town, in which Mark Grice scored twice for the Bullets. Sandbach United are in the final play off place after their 2-0 defeat of Silsden; Josh Lane scoring both goals for the home side.
W Sandbach United 2 – Silsden 0 Sandbach bagged 3 points in their home encounter against Silsden as Josh Lane strikes both goals of the game. Both teams pressed early but it was Sandbach who looked the most convincing of the pair. Josh Lane showed true determination as he robbed Silsden’s centre-back of possession and then rolled the ball past Silsden's keeper to open the scoring, 1-0 Sandbach United. It was evident from the early stages that Sandbach were desperate for the win. Carlos Correia could not quite get his shot to cause the keeper a problem and then, a few minutes later, Oumar Mballo's shot blazed just over the bar. After the break, both teams were finding more space and opportunities on the ball. Right-back Matthew Pearson rose the highest from George Riley’s whipped cross but the header glanced just wide of the mark. The other side of the pitch, Silsden’s Zack Hargreaves’ pinpoint cross was headed towards goal by Daniel Forrest, but Sandbach's goalie, Ryan Moss pulled off an amazing one-handed save to deny him. George Riley’s in-swinging corner kick eventually found its way to Josh Lane. He then returned a cross back into the box where Danny Bartle’s headed effort bounced agonisingly across Silsden's goal line and out wide. The second goal of the game came when substitute, Tom Watkins hoofed what seemed like a harmless ball into the box. Josh Lane, unmarked and waiting, cleverly took the ball down and laced it on the half volley into the back of the net, sealing the important victory for Sandbach United. Whitchurch Alport FC was formed in 1946, being named after Alport Farm, the home of local footballer Coley Maddox, who was killed in action during WW 2. The Club initially joined the Shrewsbury & District League, winning the League in 1947/48. In the search for a higher standard of football, the Club were elected to the Birmingham League for the 1948/49 season, however during the close season, news of a proposed Mid-Cheshire League reached the ears of a committee member and this led them to become founder members. The Club had a very successful period during the 1950’s and 60’s, reaching numerous prestigious cup finals, including a first appearance in the Welsh Amateur Cup final, against Chirk AAA at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground in front of over 5,000 spectators, eventually losing in a replay. Alport were the first club to take the Mid-Cheshire championship out of the county in 1969/70. This was Alport’s finest season as they reached the final of the League Cup losing 4-2 to Kidsgrove Athletic and also won the Shropshire County Cup. Alport have always been able to call on dedicated committee members, the best known probably being Bernard Painter, who served the Club in many capacities and was instrumental in the Club’s formation, remaining until his death when he was in his mid 90's. Season 1973/74 saw Alport defeat Cardiff College 2-1 to become the last English club to win the Welsh Amateur Cup. For season 1983/84 & 1984/85 Alport’s committee took the decision to play local players only; a decision that was to prove disastrous as finished rock bottom of the League. A new management team, Luke Goddard and Carl Everall, took over for 2016/17, bringing with them a substantial backroom team, a brand new playing squad and a new found hope.
