Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

Sandbach United 1 – Litherland REMYCA 1 Sandbach United held to 1-1 draw against Litherland REMYCA in scrappy affair. Sandbach United travelled to face a Litherland team who were just one place and 2 points above them in the league. Although the rainy weather across the country stopped several Hallmark Security League matches, it was the freezing cold that hindered the playing conditions. Luke Taylor replaced Mathew Pearson, who had a broken nose, at right back and Christopher Jackson filled in for an injured Thomas Watkin. During the warm-up it was evident that Sandbach’s men were standing on tired legs from Wednesday’s 120 minute clash against Witton Albion, which resulted in a defeat. The match opened at a frantic pace, with hard challenges and tackles. Sandbach got the first couple of clear cut chances, with Josh Lane heading fractionally over and Danny Bartle’s tame volley caught safely by Litherland’s goalkeeper, Sean Lake. On 13 minutes, Josh Lane played Daniel Bartle in for his second chance of the game. The striker was one on one with the keeper, but his shot went into the keeper’s grasp. Defender, Kris Stockton, found himself booked after a reckless challenge, and after further arguments with the opposing players, he was substituted by Andy Hockenhull on 38 minutes. After the break, Sandbach went close again from Danny Bartle’s great header from a George Riley corner kick. It looked to be frustrating day for the centre-forward, but he finally got his goal after Jamie Morgan’s shot was parried by keeper, Lake, falling into the path of Bartle, who smashed the ball to give the visitor’s the lead. Despite Sandbach’s dominance in the second half, they gifted a goal to Litherland on 77 mins. Nathan Jones was disposed in his own box then Litherland’s James McGrane received the ball and buried it into an open net. Sandbach will be disappointed to get one point in a game where they could have taken all three. They face another trip to Liverpool next weekend to face the league leaders, City of Liverpool FC, who are ten points above the Cheshire side who sit in 6th.

Sandbach United 3 v Unicorn 1 The Sandbach team welcomed Dan Coppenhall, Harry Nash and Jaime Mellor to the team all starting for the first time. Sandbach started brightly competing with their stronger and more experienced opponents. The back four of Landstrom, Evans, Adams and Nash were first to every ball, in midfield Coppenhall, Monks, and Bostock were winning their battles, up front Mellor, Broadhurst and Edwards were causing problems for the Unicorn Defence, has so often happens in football Unicorn scored with their 1st attack when good play and a good cross fell to their striker to make it 1-0. The reserves kept their heads and were fighting for every ball. Dan Coppenhall won the ball in the middle of the park drove on and then hit a wonderful goal from twenty yards. Sandbach were now full of confidence and moving the ball quickly, from a Martin Evans pass Broadhurst was in on goal and slotted the ball home to make 2-1. Just before half time Jordan Edward had to come off to be replaced by John Hancock. At half time the management team told the boys to continue doing what they had done the first half and to expect Unicorn to come out fighting. The second half showed what the boys can do when they have the desire and commitment; they matched Unicorn every inch of the way, closed them down and defended superbly well. Elliot Lane played his part with two really good saves, even more pleasing was the way the boys continue to try play their own attacking football, Harry Nash gave way to Sam Youds, shortly after Mellor came off for Nathan Brereton to replace him. Sandbach sealed the points when Youds broke away and played a cross for Broadhurst to put the ball in the net to make the final score 3-1.

Established in 1968, the club joined the Mid-Cheshire League in the 1971–72 season. In 1973 they were renamed Alsager Town, a name they retained until 1985 when they became Alsager United. In 1988 the club reverted to its original name. They finished as runners-up in the Mid-Cheshire League in 1987–88, but left the league at the end of the season as they disbanded. The club reformed in 1989 and joined the Premier Division of the Crewe League. Two years later they moved up to the Mid-Cheshire League in 1991 and were placed in Division Two. After playing in the league for seven seasons, they switched to the Midland Football League in 1998. They finished as runners-up in their first season, earning promotion to Division Two of the North West Counties League. In 2001 the club were renamed for a fifth time, becoming Alsager Town again. They finished second in Division Two in North West Counties League, earning promotion to Division One. They won the Leek Cup in the same season. The 2005–06 season saw the club finish third in Division One, resulting in promotion to Division One of the Northern Premier League (NPL). At the end of their first season in the NPL the league added an extra division, resulting in Alsager Town being placed in Division One South. Although they finished fourteenth in the eighteen-club division in 2007–08, the club were relegated back into the renamed Premier Division of the North West Counties League after failing ground grading criteria. The club remained in the Premier Division until the end of the 2015–16 season when they were relegated to Division One
