Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

Sandbach United 3 – Alsager Town 3 Sandbach United faced Alsager Town Tuesday night in what was to be a fierce derby clash. Sandbach were first to bag on the 14 minute with Oumar Mballo goal and by the 40 minute Sandbach were 3-0 up going in at HT 3-1 up after Alsager pull one back. The next 45 minutes did not go well for Sandbach as Alsager pulled back another 2 goals and the final score ended up 3-3. Sandbach’s last game against second from top, City of Liverpool FC, was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, giving the players enough time to recuperate from the tightly congested fixtures. Before that, Sandbach travelled to Bootle to face Litherland REMYCA in a testing game where they looked set on to collect the 3 points. Unfortunately, the Liverpool team snatched an equaliser late on. The club are improving at a ferocious pace under Andy Hockenhull. There’s a real buzz surrounding Sandbach of late, with ideas about a mere survival season thrown out. They now face a run of games against teams surrounding them in the league, giving the players a chance to truly show that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Sandbach United 1 v Ford Motors FC 7 The reserves travelled to Liverpool to face Ford Motors. James Bettley came back into the team after playing for the 1st. Sandbach were a goal down within five minutes after poor marking let their centre forward get away for an easy goal. The boys then settled down and started to test the back four of Ford Motors, Bettley and Broadhurst both went close, Sandbach were giving a good account of themselves and equalized when Broadhurst scored from the penalty spot. Sandbach then let Ford back into as straight from the kick off the centre forward scored again. The boys settled again and were causing some problems with Monks, Broadhurst, and Youds going close, unfortunately, they could not get to half without conceding another goal; 3-1 at half time. Manager Pete Hart stressed the importance of getting the next goal and to believe they could get back into the game, Beresford came off with an injury to be replaced by Hancock. What followed in the second half was embarrassing to say the least, most of the boys just caved in, lost their discipline and heads dropped too quickly, only a few of the players could come out of the second half with any credit. Sandbach conceded another four goals to lose 7 – 1, just not good enough.

The club was originally established in 1933 when a team from the village of Charnock Richard joined the Chorley Alliance League, a Sunday league competition. However, after winning the league in 1948–48, the club folded after attempting to run two teams during the following season. The club was reformed in 1955 and rejoined the Chorley Alliance League, winning the title in 1956–57, before switching to the Preston & District League. They won the league in 1960–61 and went on to win three successive league titles between 1966–67 and 1968–69. They won their final Preston & District League title in 1989–90, and also spent some time in the Bolton Combination. In 1993 the club moved up to Division Two of the West Lancashire League. They were runners-up in 1994–95, earning promotion to Division One. After finishing as Division One runners-up in 1996–97, they won the division in 1997– 98. The division was renamed the Premier Division in 1998, and they were runners-up again in 1998–99 and 2001–02, before winning the title in 2002–03. After finishing as runners-up in 2005–06, the club won the division again in 2008–09, and went on to win four consecutive titles between 2011–12 and 2014–15. A second-place finish in 2015–16 saw the club promoted to Division One of the North West Counties League.
