MANAGERS NOTES Good afternoon and welcome to Hind Heath Road for our 2nd home fixture of the 2018/19 season. I would like to welcome the officials, players and supporters of Stone Dominoes on your first visit to our football club, and I hope you enjoy our fantastic hospitality. We need a positive performance today after a mixed start. The home win against Cheadle Heath was by far our best performance so far, in stark contrast to Saturdays F.A Cup defeat which was our worst! I can make excuses for players being away on holiday or injured, but the fact is we are missing too may good chances in front of goal, and our defending at times is poor. On a more positive note, the friendly on Tuesday against Winsford United was a good exercise to give our squad players a game and the chance for new players to show what they have to offer. Hopefully we can get three points today and get the season going. Enjoy the game

Andy

SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed over 100 years ago, playing in the Cheshire County League and winning the Cheshire FA Senior Cup in 1914, before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s.

SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education facility. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The clubs first season in the Hallmark Security League was better than they could have dreamt, winning the Macron Club of the Month in December, finishing in 6th place and the playoffs in Division 1 as well as being Reusch First Division Challenge Cup Runners up. Their goal keeper, Ryan Moss also collected two Reusch Keeper of the Month awards. In another first for the club, the 2017/18 season saw the club enter The FA Vase with a home 2nd Qualifying Round fixture against AFC Emley. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

Stone Dominoes – CLUB HISTORY Founded in 1987 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church Scout, Cub, Beaver Group in Stone with a team of 8 year olds, by Chairman, Bob Bowers, for his youngest son Daniel and his friends from St. Dominic's, Stone and St. Josephs College, Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent. The name was chosen by the boys; therefore Stone St. Dominic's became Stone Dominoes F.C.

After a highly successful period in youth football Chairman Bob Bowers and his best footballing friend Trevor Morrell, Madeley White Star F.C, merged their two clubs with the intention of focusing on 16-18 year olds with 2 teams in the County Minor Youth which the club has dominated for the last 7 years, picking up innumerable trophies including 3 prestigious Sentinel Cups and 1 Sentinel Shield as well as Staffordshire County Cups. The club opened its new ground at Springbank Park, Yarnfield, after a significant effort by club members and players to build the current club house and pick a mountain of stones from the 3 pitches. In 2002, with an eye on the future, Dominoes made the decision to move from their Yarnfield ground to share at Kings Park home of Meir KA in Meir Heath. Over 60,000 was spent on the ground to bring it up to the required standard and the ground was renamed the Springbank Stadium after the clubs sponsors. 2002/03. Was the most momentous in the Club’s History with Stone Dominoes becoming the first North Staffordshire Club to be awarded the prestigious F.A. Charter Standard Community Club Status, which is only given to Clubs with a minimum of 10 teams covering boys and girls, men and women. To achieve the standard a club has to have proven procedures to take care of the health and safety and development of its players, volunteers and spectators. Promotion was achieved in the penultimate game of the season with a narrow 3-2 win over Ashton Town which enabled them to overtake Maine Road who had completed their fixtures. The Division Two Trophy was also won with a 2-1 win over again Ashton Town.

2003/04. Stone Dominoes played at their highest level ever, in Division One of

Stone Dominoes – CLUB HISTORY the NWCL. They surprised many people by being one of the early front runners and although they dropped away mid season, they still finished in 10th place. 2005/06. A traumatic season for the club. Chairman Bob Bowers decided to leave the club and it seemed for a time that the club would fold. However, a new board was formed and the club started the season with the majority of the previous seasons reserve side making the step up. A new Chairman came in Chris Haines and in January 2006 ex Stoke City player Kevin Sheldon was appointed 1st team coach. After being at the bottom of the league for most of the season Dominoes managed to stave off relegation, and also picking up the Fair Play Award at the League's Presentation Evening 2008/09. After a slow start to the season Doms had a good run in the FA Vase to the 4th round proper, and created a club record of 12 successive wins which moved Doms from mid table to finish 3rd in the league only just missing out on promotion by 2 points. 2009/10. The first team won the 1st division of the Vodkat North West Counties League and gained promotion to the Premier Division at step 5 in the NLS. They also won the Staffordshire FA Vase beating Heath Hayes 3 - 0 in the final at Stafford Rangers FC. The club resigned from the NWCFL in the 2012/13 season and ceased to exist until they were reformed under the stewardship of Kyle Adams and Dominic Ryder in 2015 taking their place in the Staffordshire County Senior League. 2015/16. The newly put together side won the SCSL President’s Trophy and missed out on promotion by a point in Division One. 2016/17. Doms gained promotion to the SCSL Premier Division by securing a runners-up spot after failing to win their final game of the season to become Champions. 2017/18. In their first season in the Premier Division the side struggled early on but found a good run of form in the second half of the season to finish 11th in the table. After a successful application to the newly restructured NWCFL the club were reassigned to Division One South.

Sandbach United 3 Cheadle Heath Nomads 0 Kirby hat trick gives Sandbach all 3 points

After losing their opening game of the season at Oswestry on Saturday, Sandbach were looking to get back to winning ways against league new boys Cheadle Heath Nomads on Tuesday night. The game started slowly with both sides guilty of some wayward passes and dreadful shooting. The first meaningful attack came on the half hour mark when last years player of the season Ryan Allcock played the ball over the top to another post season award winner James Kirby. Last seasons top scorer beat the offside trap and ran onto a ball that was beautifully weighted by Allcock, Kirby ran clear of the chasing defenders and found himself one on one. However in un-kirby like fashion he blazed the ball well over the bar and spoiling a golden opportunity that his side has worked hard for. Four minutes later the Allcock-Kirby partnership was in full effect yet again. When a deep Ledwards free kick from the left was cleared as far as Allcock on the edge of the box, he found Kirby who had perfectly timed his run into the box, as the ball fell to Kirby he did what we does best and lifted the ball over the onrushing goal keeper to put his side in the lead. James Kirby was running the show for Sandbach and it was his good ball round the corner on the stroke of half time that allowed Kieran Knapper to use his blistering pace and drive down the right wing. After leaving his marker in a cloud of dust he played the ball to Kirby who had continued his run from Midfield. The ball was perfect for Kirby to strike first time from the edge of the box, unfortunately for the Sandbach man Aaron Tyree in the Cheadle goal stuck out a leg and managed to guide the ball past the right hand post and out for a corner. As the first half came to an end, Sandbach were looking in good form.

They should’ve been 3 nil up, however a mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing meant that they only had one goal to their name at the break. Five minutes into the second half it was Knapper who was again using his pace to full effect. He raced into box and unleashed a shot from the right side of the box, unfortunately for him this strike went the wrong side of the right post. Cheadle looked more threatening in the second half, they seemed to be keeping the ball more efficiently and getting into the right areas. Their first shot of anger came after 56 minutes when Kayla Power unleashed a strike from range that flew well over the bar. United looked to double their lead and give them a bit of breathing space between them and their opposition.

On the 67th minute Sandbach substitute Aidan Haughton danced his way into the box, he then unleashed a left footed shot from the left of the box looking for the bottom right corner of the goal, unfortunately for him though his shot flashed wide of the goal. As the clocked ticked down Cheadle looked more and more threatening as they pushed for an equaliser, however it was Sandbach who got the vital second goal, when they caught Cheadle on the break with 5 minutes of the game left. The goal came from good work from Adam Clayton down the left who managed to cut inside and put in a low cross that found Kirby who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner from 12 yards out. With five minutes left Sandbach looked to have the game under control and looked like picking up all three points. They made things sure in the 5th minute of added time as they made it 3-0 when a long ball over the top from Billy Buckley was missed by the defender on half way, this allowed Kirby to run through on goal and then slot the ball past the goalkeeper and secure his hat trick and the three points for his team.

LAST MATCH: Parkgate 2 Sandbach United 0

Jack Beresford Reports

Sandbach crash out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle The town of Sandbach was represented in the FA cup for the first time in 44 years since Sandbach Ramblers competed in it in 1974. United travelled to Northern Counties East division 1 side Parkgate, however a goal either side of half time meant the home side came away with a 2-0 victory at the Roundwood sports complex. Sandbach got off to a good start as straight from kick off Mike Blundell won his side a corner, the corner from the left was delivered to the back post and onto the head of centre back Kris Stockton who headed wide from the back post. After 11 minutes Sandbach had their first real opportunity of the game when Josh Lane played the ball in behind the defence and into the path of Mike Blundell who was then in on goal, Blundell got into the box and then unleashed a shot that well saved by the keeper down to his right. The away side had started the brighter of the two sides and it didn’t look as though the nerves of playing in a big game had got to them. Parkgate were being patient in possession, making Sandbach work hard to get the ball back, in the 14th minute the mustered their first chance of the game when a cross from the right was met by Martin Brissett who headed over from the penalty spot. Six minutes later the deadlock was broken when a low free kick from the right by Elliot Simpson was met by Brandon Bagley who nonchalantly flicked the ball towards the far post and into the net. It was a goal that the home side had earned as they were patient in their build up, however it was poor defending from Sandbach as Baguley was left unmarked in the box. Sandbach had a lot of work to do in order to get back into the game and they almost did just that Blundell’s corner from the left was headed over by Josh Lane. Set plays were looking as though they were going to be the only way that either side were going score, this point was backed up when Tim Whittaker headed over from a corner from the right two minutes before half time. As the first half concluded Sandbach were 1-0 down and they had plenty of work to do if they wanted to progress in this competition

The second half started poorly, and both teams took a while to get going, the home side had gone deeper as they looked to preserve their lead. With 30 minutes of the game left, Sandbach were pushing for an equaliser, but when Billy Buckley was tackled on half way the ball ricocheted of Buckley and into the path of Lewis Szanto who rounded the on rushing keeper and then slotted the ball into the empty net to double his sides lead, the Sandbach players were busy appealing for a freekick as they felt as though Buckley was fouled in the build-up. Sandbach heads had dropped and the game was fizzling out as Parkgate were playing the ball around nicely and keeping possession well. With three minutes of the game left Sandbach finally gained possession and had their first chance of the second half as Kirby cut in from the left and then shot with his left foot, his shot flashed across the goal and out for a goal kick, Sandbach knew that goal would put the pressure on home side, United had another golden chance one minute later when a long ball from Stockton was nodded down by Buckley into the path of Haughton who beat the keeper to the ball and poked the ball over the bar but the flag was up for offside anyway. The referee had indicated four minutes of added time and Sandbach looked to use this to their advantage. In the 92nd minute Ryan Allcock sent In cross that was perfect for Stockton, however he couldn’t keep his shot down from just six yards out. Two minutes later Sandbach had one final opportunity to pull a goal back, as a cross from the left was met by Haughton whose shot from 12 yards out was met blocked by his own teammate James Kirby, the ball then fell to second half substitute Luke Walley who half volleyed the ball down towards the bottom left corner, but the keeper was on hand to save well low down to his right. The game ended 2-0 to Parkgate, it was a poor display from Sandbach who never really got going and didn’t take their chances.
