SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed over 100 years ago, playing in the Cheshire County League and winning the Cheshire FA Senior Cup in 1914, before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s.

SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education facility. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The clubs first season in the Hallmark Security League was better than they could have dreamt, winning the Macron Club of the Month in December, finishing in 6th place and the playoffs in Division 1 as well as being Reusch First Division Challenge Cup Runners up. Their goal keeper, Ryan Moss also collected two Reusch Keeper of the Month awards. In another first for the club, the 2017/18 season saw the club enter The FA Vase with a home 2nd Qualifying Round fixture against AFC Emley. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

Stone Old Alleynians – CLUB HISTORY Stone Old Alleynians Football Club was founded in 1962 by Dave Bonnet, a teacher at and former pupil of Alleynes Grammar School, Stone. The Club received a donation from the Old Alleynians Society to purchase shirts and pay League Fees etc. They entered the Stafford Amateur League [later to become the Mid Staffs League] Division IV and due to the terrible winter of 1963 league fixtures were not completed and there was no promotion or relegation. In 1964 they were runners up and promoted. They also reached the final of the Staffs FA Presidents Cup, losing to Division I Champions Kingston YC at Stafford Rangers. The following season they came third in Division III and were promoted to Division II. Season 1965-66 saw the Club win its first silverware by becoming champions of Division II. Honours became harder in Division I and the only other notable success was defeating local rivals Stone St Michaels in the Final of the Stone Charity Cup in 1969.

The 1970’s were the golden years starting in season 1971-72. That season they became Division I Champions by 2 points, winning their last 6 games. Between 1972 and 1979, Stone Old Alleynians were Division I Champions 3 times and Borough [Div I] Cup winners once and runners up twice. They also won the Stafford Pageant Cup twice and were runners up twice. Another success was the Stone Charity Cup, winning it 3 times and beaten finalists once. The Old Alleynians joined the North Staffs Alliance League in 1980 with a second team entering the Mid Staffs League Division II, of which they became champions. In season 1981-82 third place was achieved in the North Staffs Alliance League and beaten finalists in the League Cup. The Uttoxeter Cup was also a good venture, being runners up in seasons 1981-82 and 1983-84. The second team also won the Mid Staffs Div II Cup and were runners up in the Pageant Cup in season 1983-84. Having been relegated to Division I in the Staffs Alliance when the league was split into 2 divisions, a Premier and Div I, they came back in 1988, by being Division I runners up. Seasons 1992 to 1995 saw the Old Boys with teams in the Staffs County League

Stone Old Alleynians – CLUB HISTORY and the Staffs Alliance, the club having to change the second team name to Alleynians FC due to Alliance League rules. The club entered Division II of the West Midland League, with a second team in Division II of the County League in 2007. The First Team reached the final of the Staffs FA Challenge Cup but were beaten by Kidsgrove Athletic at the end of the 2009/10 season. They were promoted to the West Midland League Division 1 the same season. In the season 2014/15 the first team were runners up in WMRL Div 1 and promoted to the Premier Division. They also had success in the JW Hunt Cup where they lost the final, at Molyneux, to Tividale who were 3 levels above them in the pyramid after extra time and defeated a couple of higher level teams to reach the semi-final of the Staffs FA Vase losing to WMRL Premier Div champions Sporting Khalsa, by the only goal. 2015-16 saw Stone Old Alleynians consolidate their place in the West Midlands Premier Division, finishing in 14th position with 58 points. 2016-17 saw the team finish just below halfway in the league. They managed to put in some really good performances against the better teams but dropped points to the sides they might have expected to beat. Midfield dynamo Sam Wilson, was voted the West Midlands Premier League player of the season. The 2017-18 season began with the Old Boys suffering the consequences of losing their Director of Football and four key players to local rivals Newcastle Town. Despite putting in many battling performances the team struggled to pull away from the relegation zone of the West Midland Premier League. March 2018 saw the return of the dynamic Sam Wilson to the club and this had an immediate effect on the team as they finished the season with a run of six victories in their last seven games. In 2018, the FA had a countrywide reorganisation of all football leagues below the National League system. This resulted in Stone Old Alleynians moving into the North West Counties League Division 1 (South). The league status is equivalent to the West Midland Premier League but should see a considerable reduction in the distance the Old Boys will have to travel to matches. We are looking forward to the 2018-19 with great anticipation.

MATCH REPORT: Sandbach United 3 Stone Dominoes 0

Jack Beresford Reports

After losing in the FA cup, Sandbach returned to league action as they faced newly promoted side Stone Dominoes. Sandbach got off to a positive start to the game as after just eight minutes Josh Lane had the first shot on goal however it was straight at the keeper who was able to save easily. Sandbach were the better side from the get-go, they were controlling possession as they looked to break the dead lock. The first half was very dry, there was very little goal mouth action, neither side could find the allusive final ball that would split the oppositions defence. Sandbach were resorting to shooting from distance and hoping that something would come of that, Steve Mcnicol struck one from distance after 20 minutes which went well outside of the right post. Five minutes before half time Jake Chadwick’s long-range strike also went well wide of post. As the first half ended there was very little to warm the hands of the spectators, the only real shot in anger was by Josh Lane after eight minutes.

MATCH REPORT: Sandbach United 3 Stone Dominoes 0

Jack Beresford Reports

At half time both managers would have told their sides to be creative and look to try something different as ploughing through the middle and then looking to play the ball in behind the defence just wasn’t working. Whatever Sandbach manager Andy Hockenhull said at half time had a major influence on his side as two minutes into the second half Jake Chadwick opened the scoring as he unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards that gave the keeper no chance. Chadwick’s goal started what was a rampant second half display for the home side. Sandbach had raced out of the blocks in the second half and after getting the first they pushed on as they looked to put the game beyond doubt. Stone couldn’t get past Sandbach’s defence, in fact they didn’t have a shot on goal all game. Not only were Sandbach defensively solid, but they looked a threat going forward, however the second goal came from a set play. A Buckley corner from the left was met by centre back Kris Stockton who headed home and doubled Sandbach’s lead. Stone didn’t look threatening and Sandbach were moving the ball nicely and making the game look easy. With 10 minutes to go Sandbach added a third when Chadwick found substitute Kieran Garner- Knapper who fired in from just inside the box. This was the last of the action In the second half, a dominating second half display from the home side meant that they took all three points.
