SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed over 100 years ago, playing in the Cheshire County League and winning the Cheshire FA Senior Cup in 1914, before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s.

SANDBACH UNITED – CLUB HISTORY In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education facility. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The clubs first season in the Hallmark Security League was better than they could have dreamt, winning the Macron Club of the Month in December, finishing in 6th place and the playoffs in Division 1 as well as being Reusch First Division Challenge Cup Runners up. Their goal keeper, Ryan Moss also collected two Reusch Keeper of the Month awards. In another first for the club, the 2017/18 season saw the club enter The FA Vase with a home 2nd Qualifying Round fixture against AFC Emley. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

New Mills – CLUB HISTORY New Mills AFC, based in the High Peak of Derbyshire, have continually been at the forefront of organised football in the area. The Club's home ground is regarded as one of the most picturesque in non-league football. Football has been played in New Mills since 1886. The Club first played in friendlies before joining The North Cheshire League and The Manchester League. The Club moved to their present home of Church Lane in 1922. After moving to The Cheshire League in 1974 the club struggled and by the early 1980's were forced to cease football activity. Local side Birch Vale and Thornsett FC were looking for a ground and soon they adopted the name of New Mills AFC and started progression via The Lancashire and Cheshire League and the Manchester League. New Mills re-joined The North West Counties League in 2004 (they were founding members in 1982). Under Tony Hancock the club enjoyed success, beginning with the NWCFL Second Division Trophy in 2007. The following season they won Division Two by ten points. 2008/09 saw them win the League Challenge Cup, but after a twenty one game winning run, promotion to The Evo-Stik League was denied by a last day defeat at AFC Fylde. 2009/10 saw The Millers finish runners-up to Newcastle Town who gained promotion to the Evo-Stik League after which Hancock resigned, former Mossley boss Ally Pickering taking over as caretaker. Pickering became full-time manager and 2010/11 proved third time lucky as New Mills achieved promotion to The Evo-Stik League The debut season in The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League was tough after being placed in Division One South, but the eventual position of ninth represented a respectable finish.

New Mills– CLUB HISTORY After a mixed start to the 2012/13 campaign, Pickering was replaced by assistant Roy Soule, who guided them to a play-off position, losing to Trafford in the play-off semi-final. 2013/14 was a difficult season with a wet winter producing the inevitable March/April fixture backlog. The Club eventually ended in a mid-table position in Division One North. 2014/2015 proved tough for New Mills AFC. They finished in a relegation position but gained a reprieve. Soule resigned in the summer and was replaced by Keith Briggs who left the Club three weeks later replaced by his Assistant Andy Fearn. Fearn remained for seven games before resigning, being replaced by Garry Brown and assistant Paul Williams. Despite their previous success at Wythenshawe Town, they were unable to make the step up and the club mustered just three draws in the season gaining national media attention. The club found themselves back in the North West Counties League for the 2016/17 season but despite improvement Brown resigned early in the season, with Williams taking over. Williams was unsuccessful in making the step up from Assistant Manager and he was to leave the club before Christmas in 2016. Calum Sykes was appointed the new Manager and clinched the signings of a number of players that he had worked with at previous clubs giving the club solid foundations to build from moving forwards. Home form was good at the end of 2016/17 but away form remained disappointing and the club were relegated. Callum Sykes resigned in midNovember of the 2017/18 season to be replaced his assistants, Gareth Cross and Nick Dowse and the club finished in 14th position.

Last time out: Sandbach United 4 AFC Liverpool 1

Jack Beresford reports

Sandbach started in the best way possible as after just five minutes they took the lead through a superb goal from Billy Buckley, he started the move by spraying the ball out to the right outside where Josh Lane was, he then pulled the ball to the edge of the box where Buckley was, Buckley chested the ball down, waited for the ball to sit up and then rifled it into the top right corner of the goal, leaving the keeper with no chance and adding to his collection of wonderful that he has scored this season. Ten minutes later Sandbach cam close to adding a second when captain Bradley Copper through the ball down the right towards Ryan Allcock who flicked the ball inside to new signing Jordan Erdmann who then played the ball into the path of Kieran Garner-Knapper in the box, then cut inside before shooting straight at the keeper. Dean Twigg has been a very good signing for United and the young lad showed his worth after 20 minutes when he muscled his way into the box before shooting from the right side of the box however it was straight at the keeper. On the 30 minute mark the game changed, Sandbach were on the attack and Billy Buckley was running into the attacking third to keep up with play but he abruptly halted by the leg of Ryan Hardacre who needlessly tripped Buckley right in front of the eyes of the referee who was quick to show the Liverpool man the red card, It was a stupid decision from Hardacre who made his sides chances of getting back into the game a lot harder. Two minutes later Sandbach double their lead when Kieran Garner-Knapper found Erdmann on the right side of the box, he then played a first time ball back to into the path of Garner-Knapper who carried on his run and poked the ball under the onrushing keeper capping off a superb Sandbach move. Sandbach looked a real force going forward, they almost added a third just moments after scoring their second when Garner-Knapper used his pace to get in behind the defence, his low cross was then directed onto the bar by the Liverpool number 5, he was very lucky as the ball could have gone anywhere, thankfully it cannoned off the bar and away from danger.

Jack Beresford reports

On the stroke of half time Liverpool pulled a goal back when a corner from the right was cleared as far as Chris Brady who chested the ball down before volleying into the top right corner from the edge of the box. Brady’s goal had got his side back into the game and at half time the scores were 2-1 to Sandbach with it all to play for. Sandbach started the second half brightly and they came close to adding a third when a corner from the right was aimed towards Kris Stockton at the back post, he headed the ball back across goal to O’Riordan who headed wide of the right post from close range. Moments later Sandbach had the ball in the back of the net for a third time, however it was deemed to be offside. Jordan Erdmann got up highest to meet a corner from the right, he headed on goal and it looked to be going wide of the right post, but Rowntree was on hand to head into the net, but the linesman had his flag up on the far side and ruled out the goal. Ten minutes later Sandbach finally added a third when a poor pass back to the keeper from the Liverpool full back was latched onto by Allcock who got to the left by line before squaring to Erdmann who managed to flick the ball towards the back post into the bottom corner of the net, a great finish from the debutant who had been impressive all game. With ten minutes to go Sandbach put the game beyond doubt as another dangerous delivery from the right was met by Stockton who volleyed the ball into the top left corner. It was a superb finish and not one that you’d expect from a centre half.

Sandbach had been excellent all game, despite missing a few big names Sandbach were superb, AFC Liverpool had been going well this season so to put four past them will be a big confidence booster for Hockenhull and his boys. Sandbach will face premier side Burscough away in the next round.
