Helpful Tip Flower arrangement It’s Spring!! Freshen up your rooms by adding flower arrangement or plants around the house. Adding flowers and plants not only will brighten the room, its fragrance and photosynthesis process will cleanse the air too. Remember the following tips:
• • • • • • •
Foam: Use florist’s foam on the bottom of the vase so the flower will last longer, keep the arrangement in place, and
constantly hydrate them. Placement: Be sure to place the flowers away from sunlight, but put the plants where there will be direct sunlight during the day. Height: Make your arrangement taller than the height of the container/vase you are using, this will give your arrangement a more pleasing proportion. Container: Use an opaque container instead of glass if you are using different types of flowers and leaves in one arrangement, this will hide the messy stems, and you don’t have to change the water as often. If you want to just do something casual, think about using what you can find in the house as vases, like jars, teacups, tea pot, bowls, etc. Numbers: Group flowers in odd numbers instead of even numbers, especially if you want a smaller arrangement, odd numbers just seem to be more pleasing to the eye. Flower Food: Use flower food will make the flowers last longer. Water: Use warm water or room temperature water to fill the vases, and remember to change water every 3-4 days.

Soft Pastel Do you consider bright colors to be a little to jarring for your personal space? There is no need to get overwhelmed with this idea. Pastel colors offer a trendy, soothing solution and they are in style this year! The Pepper Youth Collection (#400360-#400367) offers an inspiring pastel palette that can be used in your home dec贸r. The brightness of the white finish against the warm wood floor and the subtle contast of the dusty pink wall with white furniture all provides a calming atmosphere. words of the month Dovetail Dovetail joinery is a woodworking technique used to connect two pieces of wood together. Today, it is most commonly used to construct drawers. The end of one piece of wood has a line of ‘pins’, trapezoidal in shape that fit into the end of another piece of wood having a corresponding line of ‘tails’. This woodworking joint is especially strong and resistant to being pulled apart. There are 2 common types of dovetail in today’s furniture manufacturing:
English Dovetail: Notice the jigsaw cutouts on the sides of each drawer piece, which
when joined together form a tightly fit drawer. The English dovetail technique is also commonly referred to as a butt joint. French Dovetail: This technique is based on cutting out a slat in the middle of a
board and also a corresponding piece of wood that can slide into the middle cutout. Of the 2 types of dovetail described above, English dovetail is the more expensive one to manufacture but it offers more storage space within the drawer. However, some drawers are constructed with both English and French dovetail, usually with French dovetail on the front and English dovetail on the back. This method will save manufacturing cost and allow additional storage capacity at the same time.
