Helpful Tip area rug size and placement Having an area rug can help unify a design, anchor down furniture, while its color and design can also liven up the room, giving a sense of completion to the whole decor. Selecting the right size area rug is similar to selecting the right furniture, besides considering the color and print, its size and placement are also important factor when purchasing area rugs for any room in the house. Here are some simple guidelines for selecting the ideal area rugs for your space:

• • • • •

Entry Way/Foyer: If you have a grand entry way, you can center a round area rug under the light fixture. Hallway: Stretch the rug throughout the hall way, leaving a few inches between the rug and the wall, and leave even

space on both ends. Living Room: The rug has to be at least large enough to place the front legs of the sofa on top, you can even selecting a rug that would cover all legs. Bedroom: Extend the rug 12-18 inches around the bed so your feet touches the rug when you get off the bed, or choose a smaller rug that runs through bottom 2/3 of the bed. Dining Room: Choose a rug that is flat and easy to clean for the dining room, and have the rug extend at least 24 inches from the edge of the table, allow all table and chairs legs to be on the rug.

If you are still unsure about the size, try a wall to wall rug, which treats the rug like carpet, leaving approximately 8-18 inches. Start measuring the space in the room and around the furniture to figure out what size rug works best for your room.

Trend Report Statement Dining Table Having a statement dining table in the dining room has been a popular trend in recent exhibitions, according to Freshome.com and Elle Decor. Turning the dining room into a showroom when not in use, while still maintaining the functionality and practicality of the dining table for family gatherings. A statement dining table doesn’t necessary mean it has to be huge and bulky, it just emphasizes the table ‘s unique characteristics such as thick table top, unique design, striking texture, unconventional material, or usual shape or size. | 4 | Coaster Company of America

Color Palette idea

Fiesta of colors Deciding on a color palette can be as easy as pulling inspiration from favorite piece of fabric. By using the colors on the fabric to coordinate your home decor, you already have a color palette that works. For a wider range of color add basic black or white. Our color palette choice for this edition is a combination of more matured and festive colors in wheel print. Simply use these five colors in different shades and tints, and you have endless possibilities in your hands.

words of the month Accent Furniture Accent furniture is a piece of furniture that complements a room’s decor. The term comes from a meaning of the word accent which means stress, or emphasis. A piece of accent furniture goes beyond mere functionality, and is often used for its decorative value above all. You may not even need it, but it draws the eye in and creates a bit of excitement, much like an accent color. Its purpose is to add color and definition to an an interior space. Most often small tables that are painted, inlaid or have some other interesting treatment are used as accent furniture, but it could just as well be a large and imposing piece. ---by By Abe Abbas from http://furniture.about.com/od/furnitureglossary/g/Accent-Furniture.htm

Accent colors Accent colors are colors that are used for emphasis in a color scheme. These colors can often be bold or vivid and are used sparingly, to emphasize, contrast or create rhythm. More toned down colors such as neutrals or darker shades can also be used depending on the surroundings. A very bright or warm color like red or yellow if used on a large piece of furniture can be overwhelming if not done right. Not everyone may feel brave enough to use very bold colors. However, they are less intimidating when used as accent colors. Use bold colors to enliven even the drabbest living space. Pillows, throws, rugs or wall art are good places for using them. They can also be used in not so obvious places such as in frames for pictures or mirrors. ---by By Abe Abbas http://furniture.about.com/od/furnitureterms/g/acc.htm
