Rabindra sadan cultural centre - Kolkata

EXPRESSING THE EVOLUTION OF PERCEPTION AND SENSES THROUGH SPACES, FORMS & SPATIAL ORGANISATION - Cultural centre for the cultural capital of India[Kolkata], in the site situated amidst the active pedestrian movement and surrounded by the most iconic heritage buildings of india. Design of this project is carefully approached and solved in all the aspects from the urban context to the individual people experience by considering the usage of the site by the local people and international tourists. Subtleness in the form and organisation of the buildings is maintained in a way so that, the view and heritage value of the buildings are preserved. The accessibilty and movement of people are designed to create a experience with the site and buildings. Experience of the people entering the site and every individual building is directed and designed in a way to tell a story, feel the spaces, culture and history of art forms.

SITUATIONAL THINKING

Culture evolves when art form evolves. Art form evolves when people’s emotions, senses and perception evolve .The Evolution of art forms clearly shows the evolution of humans in their sensory experience, perception and understanding of the world. Art forms have been changed and evolved over years and years from situational thinking, situational perception of things around us to the abstractive thinking phase.

MOTEL

The evolution of point (life) Highway motel in the site situated along the backwaters is designed to grab the attention of the riders and travellers visually. It has restaurants, hotel rooms, shopping stalls and other public spaces to take rest. Building’s form, texture, spacial orientaion, patterns, colours and other architectural elements are treated with the concept of evolution of life. Life evolved from the single cell to multicellular organism with different forms, size and colours. It is expressed in architectural language as point to line to shape to form.

SCULPTURE OF EMOTIONS

Evolution of structure of life from the basic single cell to multi cellular tissue and organism. This has been metaphorically translated into architectural language where it all starts from single point to line to plane to volume. Texture and pattern of the roof is the replica of the basic microscopic structure of epithelial tissues and leaf

Nature inspired pattern is transformed into the computationaly derived voronoi patterns. Populating points in the surface of the roof to create the voronoi pattern voronoi pattern is then converted in to NURBS curves. Then voids are created to allow sunlight in the respective pattern and also emit light during night

03 The

SCHOOL 1930

MEET

School is the place where Science and Art meet in the eyes of children. THE 1930 MEET is the convergence of two great minds of Art and Science field. The discussion between Rabindranath Tagore and Einstein ON THE NATURE OF REALITY has been translated into Abstract visual Language. Art is then translated into Architectural language through expressing it in spatial organisation, form, lighting, shadow, Texture and functions of the spaces.

04 PUNARJAN THE LOST CRADLE OF TAMIL CIVILIZATION ANDC COMPETION: KUMARI KANDAM - THE LOST CRADLE OF TAMIL CIVILIZATION - Kumari Kandam a matter of folklore and mystery is always a controversial debate till date. The earliest evidences of the exsistence of the lost continent is said to have dated back to 9000BC. One of the main reason why Kumari Kandam is still a matter of discussion is because various artefacts that were excavated from Mohenjo-daro has traces of Pandian sigels which is namely the twin fishes.

CHENNAI

[One month - Worked on designing & visualizing the central plaza, worked on preparing master plan]

The National War Memorial of India was proposed by the armed forces of the country commemorating the fallen war hero’s way back in 1960.The princess park which was located in the vicinity of the National Monument India gate, which itself was a tribute to the soldiers who died in the First World war (1914-1918) and the Third Anglo-Afghan war (1919) was considered as the potential site for the envisaged memorial.

09 The House of Dancing Bricks HEXAGRAMM - New Delhi [Worked on Design, mock-ups, working drawings and execution on site ] On an unremarkable street in South Delhi, the client’s vision for the façade of his house was rather remarkable. Both the neighbouring houses had grooves on stucco plaster, impediments, cornices and Italian marble cladding. The client did not particularly fancy Italian marble and that was a moment of small relief. And he loved exposed brick [ FEATURED ON ARCHITECTURE LIVE ]

70

COURSE PLAN

REVERSE COURSE PLAN

After a number of iterations, a flowing pattern of pirouetting bricks was agreed upon. It was still an exercise of ‘architecture as skin’. But the bricks would dance! And dance they did. It was decided that the other prominent element of the façade – the balcony railings (simple mild steel flats as balusters), would follow the same incremental change of angles leading to varied and changing shadow patterns on the walls and the balcony floors as the sun progresses across the façade through the day. Red Terracotta Bricks and Yellow Refractory Bricks were used for the facade

The Pathways of the Central Garden are organized using an Islamic geometric grid; The softscape, planting and greenery have a flowing and fluid form not determined by this geometry – man-made order is juxtaposed with nature’s fluid complexity.

12 APL APOLLO TUBES OFFICE HEXAGRAMM - New Delhi [Worked on Interior, exterior facade design, presentation and working drawings ] Linear form of the building is challenging to design an interior layout and accomodate efficient number of workstation pitched by the client. Exterior facade is treated with their renowned types of steel tubes. Each and every steel tubes are different in orientation since every tube is rotated to particular angle to get a dynamic exterior facade.
