REJUVENATION OF ABANDONED QUARRY B.Arch, Final Thesis, (Jan-May)2018
ABSTRACT : Quarries are powerful. They are full of energy. They are vast. however, what happen when they are exhausted? What happens when the excavation cease and they being to decay? This thesis is an investigation into how Moshi’s Basalt rock Quarry’s post industrial landscape can be redeveloped, Quarries are often repurposed, remediated and redeveloped in three ways. They are filled with water to become a lake. They are built upon to create housing developments. They are filled up with sculpted vegetation to become a garden. This thesis is an investigation into how Moshi quarry’s powerful landscape can be characterised, emaphasised and designed. The thesis contains research work and design process that examines how landscape scale interacts with the human scale, how small intervention can create moments of emphasis, how framing and viewports highlight the landscape, how large interventions interact with the surroundings. These research work and process came together to develop the post industrial quarry while emphasising the quarry’s key characteristic of immensity. SITE LOCATION :

“The concept of the landscape as architecture has become an act of imagination. I remember looking at buildings made of stone, and thinking, there has to be an interesting landscape somewhere out there because these stones have been taken out of the quarry one block at a time. I had never seen a dimensional quarry, but I envisioned an inverted cubed architecture on the side of the hill. ” ---Edward burtynsky

01 | REJUVENATION OF ABANDONED QUARRY MOSHI, PIMPRI CHINCHWAD, PUNE, MAHARASHTRA :
SITE ANALYSIS
1. Moshi is one of the most prominent location in the heart of Pimpri- Chinchwad. 2. The Site is 15km away from the core city of Pune. 3. Its close proximity to Bhosari & Chakan Industrial belt run almost 20km along Pune – Nasik Highway. 4. Alandi which is the pilgrimage destination is located under 10km along North east direction. 5. Moshi presently is one of the most affordable region in PCMC, as property rates are reasonably low as compared to the other parts of the town. Thus attracting real estate market & investors. 6. The development of PEDC(Ppune Exhibition and Convention Center) at Moshi have triggered the growth in future. This Convention Center is just 1-1.5km away from the 368 Acres(approx.) Quarry site at Moshi along the left end of (west side) of Pune-Nasik Road. 7. The Quarry site of Moshi is demarcated to Recreational Complex surrounded with habitable resident complex around for future.

01 | REJUVENATION OF ABANDONED QUARRY DESIGN APPROACH AND CONCEPT The design approach for the rejuvenation of the site is divided into 3 phases over 10 years. This incremental approach will allow the quarry to establish itself as a visitor’s destination. It will allow for the workspace expansion and work unit take up to increase organically. It will allow time for the organisational capacity and program of events to grow and it will allow for the project to respond more resiliently and flexibly to future investment opportunities and changing priority. With this time based approach in mind, the different buildings and spaces are sequenced and positioned to form clear relationships with each other and the site’s natural features. These incremental arrangements will aim to be consistently legible, functional and coherent during the various stages of development as the full scheme is gradually realized over the years. 614M ADVENTURE -Experience thrill amusement. -Adventure lovers

RURAL STUDIO, DOCUMENTATION OF ORCHHA, TIKAMGARH B.Arch, 3rd yr. V SEM, (Jul-Dec)2015
The aim of this Studio was to study, understand and document the various building typologies, their spatial organisation in rural context, their historical background etc. of a small town in Tikamgarh District of Madhya Pradesh named Orchha, which literally means “the hidden place”. Situated on the banks of river Betwa, Orchha is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty. The main emphasis of this Rural Studio was on determining the availability of the basic amenities and infrastructure or the lack thereof, based on the analysis and findings of our studio and thereby giving the design proposal for the same. During the process, the whole class was divided into 15 groups. Every group was given a different zone to study and perform analysis and hence determine the shortcomings of the respective zones. The final suggested requirements that were obtained based on thorough study of the place were : 1. Rural Health Care Center 2. Interpretation Center 3. Community Center 4. Petrol Pump and Fire Station BASE MAP

Basic Plan Lyout of PHC hospital Orchha
Lack of awareness and facilities leads to the pollution and disturbing the environment and people.
Monuments lost their importance as maintenance is low and even requires restoration.
Too many vendors along the road side creating rush and jam in the central area.
Also revenune generation of this place is not consistence and mostly depends on seasonal based tourists. Average monthly income per head

05 | RURAL STUDIO, DOCUMENTATION OF ORCHHA. TIKAMGARH • OPPORTUNITIES Relocation of vendors Providing a defined area in Fort for the vendor for selling their art & craft & jwelleries, that ultimatley results in the enhancement of the culture & sale of vendors and will aslo make the roads less crowded.
Cattle Husbandry Many cattles move freely on the main road, creating rush & jam. Providing a place for these cows and buffaloes would remove the problem of crowd in road. Aslo treatment of their solid waste would generate energy and will aslo provide employment.
Restoration of ruins in Fort complex This rich and varied heritage of orchha is now in ruins. Restoraation and maintenance would improve the scenario.
Topchi ki haweli Multi storeyed monument with enough space and beautiful location is now abandoned. Restoration of this haveli and converting it into a area providing self employment, where they can display and sell the traditional art of Orchha.
Re-planning of the compact unplanned residence Improper and unplanned residence faces problems natural light and ventilation. Power supply is not provided int he interiors and thus they are opting for unfair and unsafe means.
• THREATS Due to lack of awarness this beautiful monument has lost its archeological importance which needs to be reincarnated. People of Orchha are unaware about their rights, otherwise it would have been a much better place in terms of development.
People are unaware of their medical rights. They are happy even with the amount of facilities they are getting in the present hospital.
As the ward is bordered by Betwa river there is a threat of flood therefore people here are unable to use land near by the riverbanks due to lack of construction knowledge.
