he US House of Representative on Thursday (local times) adopted a war powers resolution that limits President Donald Trump’s ability to carry out military actions against Iran without the prior approval of Congress. The House voted 224-194 - with 13 votes outstanding - on Thursday in favour of the resolution which was introduced by Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, reported Sputnik. Slotkin has previously served as a CIA analyst specialized in Shia militias, as well as acting assistant secretary of defence for international security affairs.
The resolution was brought a day after Iran fired a number of missiles at two Iraqi bases housing US troops on
Wednesday local time in retaliation for the American strike that killed military general Qassem Soleimani last week in a Pentagon-ordered airstrike near Baghdad International Airport. In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, House Speaker Pelosi deemed the US’ strike that killed S o eimani as “provo cat ive” and “disproportionate”. She said that the decision to carry out strikes that dramatically escalated the tensions between Iran and the United States was taken without consulting the Congress. The speaker said the Trump administration’s killing of Iran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, “endangered

ran has asked Canada to share any information it has regarding the Ukrainian airliner crash after Candian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that his country has intelligence from several sources to prove that Tehran has shot down the aeroplane with 176 people onboard by surface-to-air missiles.
The Boeing 737 jet with 176 people on board including 63 Canadians crashed minutes after taking off from Tehran on Wednesday morning.
“[Iran] asks the Canadian prime minister and any other government to share information on this incident they possess to the committee in charge of investigating the incident in Iran,” Sputnik quoted a statement by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi. Mousavi added that Iran had invited Ukrainian experts as well as representatives of the Boeing company to join the investigation into causes of
our service members, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran.” Pelosi added that some members of Congress have “serious, urgent concerns” about the president’s strategy, which the administration did not assuage with a Wednesday briefing or its “insufficient” notification of the strike to Congress under the War Powers Act. “The Administration must work with Congress to advance an immediate, effective de-escalation strategy that prevents further violence. America and the world cannot afford a war,” Pelosi said in announcing the vote on the war powers resolution, led by Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich. (ANI)

Ramana said that the freedom to access internet “is a fundamental right” under Article 19 (1) (a) of the Constitution. The top court pronounced the verdict on a number of petitions challenging the restrictions and internet blockade imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year. The Supreme Court had on November 27 reserved the judgment on a batch of petitions challenging restrictions imposed on communication, media and telephone services in Jammu and Kashmir pursuant to revocation of Article 370.
The court heard the petitions filed by various petitioners including Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kashmir Times editor Anuradha Bhasin. The petitions were filed after the central government scrapped Article 370 in August and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Following this, phone lines and the internet were blocked in the region. The government has said that it has progressively eased restrictions.
‘Her political affiliation known’: Smriti Irani’s dig at Deepika Padukone
Union minister Smriti Irani has reacted to actor Deepika Padukone visiting the JNU campus in support of protesting students on Tuesday night. Speaking at an event in Chennai on Thursday, Irani said the actor had ‘made her political affiliation known in 2011 that she supports the Congress party’. The Union minister was referring
to an old interview of the actor being shared by her critics, in which she apparently backs Rahul Gandhi for Prime Minster. “I think that anybody who has read the news knew where you are going to stand... knew that you are standing with people who celebrate every time a CRPF jawan is killed,” Irani said.
‘We are with you’: Priyanka Gandhi meets people during anti-CAA protests
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Friday her party will stand behind those arrested in Varanasi for protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act as she met people in the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Priyanka Gandhi has been at the forefront leading her party’s opposition to CAA and the proposed National Register for Citizens (NRC), meeting the families of those injured, killed or arrested during the violent protests against the citizenship act across Uttar Pradesh.

The freedom of Internet access is a fundamental right under Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution,” a two-judge bench headed by Justice N V Ramana

New York [USA], Jan 10 (ANI): India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin,
on Thursday (local time) lambasted Pakistan for peddling false narrative on New Delhi and said there are no “takers for your malware here”. “It is increasingly acknowledged that the Council faces crises of identity and
legitimacy, as well as relevance and performance. The globalisation of terror networks, the weaponisation of new technologies, the inability to counter those resorting to subversive statecraft are showing up the shortcomings of the Council,” Akbaruddin said during an open debate at the UN Security Council. “One delegation that epitomises the dark arts has, yet again, displayed its wares by peddling falsehoods earlier today. These we dismiss with disdain. My simple response to Pakistan is even though it is late, neighbour, heal thyself of your malaise. There are no takers here for your malware,” he added. The diplomat stressed upon the Council as “part of the political toolkit” to address ongoing and future threats to global peace and security.

saduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that according to empirical data upper-caste Hindus hold 41 per cent of total wealth in the country which is almost double their population of 22.28 per cent. Speaking at an event, Owaisi said, “there is empirical data which states that Hindu upper-caste holds 41 per cent of total wealth in the country,
which is almost double their population of 22.28 per cent. The next biggest slice of wealth pie is with Hindu OBC which holds 31 per cent, less than their
population of 35.66 per cent.” “Muslims own eight per cent of the country’s total assets while their share of households stands at nearly 12 per cent. SCs and STs own 11.3 per cent as compared to their population of 27 per cent. Where does money lie?,” he said. Owaisi said it is easy to run a political party but very difficult to fight an election. “It is especially
more difficult for those parties that represent the marginalized communities.” “And then with the advent of the genie called an electoral bond, it has become very difficult for a political party like mine to fight elections because for the parties representing marginalized groups there is no possibility of obliging one’s donor because these parties don’t enjoy power,” he added. Death of tigers shocking, will investigate and take action: Goa CM Pramod Sawan HI INDIA NEWS DESK

oa Chief Minister Pramod S aw ant on We d n e s d ay expressed concern on the tragic deaths of tigers in the state and said that the government will investigate and take stern action against the perpetrators. “The tragic incidents of tiger deaths are shocking and saddening. We will investigate and take stern action against the perpetrators. State authorities are working round the clock, and three arrests have been made in this connection”, Sawant said. He also informed that a committee has been constituted to investigate the matter. “ T h e Un i on Mi n i st r y of Environment, Forest and Climate Change have constituted a committee
to investigate the matter”, the statement added. Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar has expressed shock over the loss of tigers and blamed the state government over the same. “This is shocking and distressing that we have lost three tigers during BJP rule in this state and two in just the past week alone. While Goa’s government is trying to destroy forests and mangroves, its central minister is insensitive to ecological concerns per se”, Chodankar said in a statement. “Goa has just 6 Tigers recorded and with two deaths in less than a week that also includes a tiger cub, there is something sinister happening here”, he said.
CHANDRABABU NAIDU SEEKS PEOPLE’S SUPPORT TO PROTEST AGAINST 3-CAPITAL PROPOSAL BY ANDHRA GOVT
Te lu g u D e s am Par t y ( T DP ) president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday carried out a rally in Krishna district’s Machilipatnam to seek people’s support for his demand to retain the state capital in Amaravati. Naidu also sought donations from people to continue his movement. He was accompanied by CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna. TDP leaders
and workers on Thursday held a sitin protest on the national highway near Kanchikacharla against Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government’s proposal to shift state capital from Amaravati. Protestors raised slogans against Reddy and in favour of Amaravati capital. They burnt tyres on the highway and blocked the traffic on the stretch for hours. The GN Rao Committee, which was set up by the Andhra Pradesh government to look into the suggestion of three capitals, has made a favourable recommendation saying it will help in decentralised development and put the available resources to the best use. It proposed Visakhapatnam as the Executive capital and Kurnool the judicial capital while retaining Amaravati as the legislative capital. (ANI)

As part of the BJP’s door-to-door campaign to explain the provisions of CAA, BJP leaders and workers visited Abdulla at her office and handed over a pamphlet. Libyan coast guards detain 150 migrants at Sea: UN New York [US], Jan 10 (Sputnik/ ANI): Libyan coast guards found more than 150 migrants in national waters and brought them back to the shore, the United Nation’s International Organisation for Migration said on Thursday. “Over 150 migrants are being returned to Libya by the coast guard,” the agency tweeted. The migration agency said its team in Libya stood ready to assist the migrants but stressed that the North African country was not a safe port due to intensifying clashes on the ground. The watchdog argued that migrants in Libya face arbitrary detention, abuse and human rights violations. The Mediterranean remained the main gateway to Europe for migrants from Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East last year, with over 110,000 making it to the shore. More than 1,200 drowned. US believes Iran mistakenly shot down
Meanwhile, European security officials said they believe that reports suggesting that the Ukrainian airliner was shot down by an Iranian surface to air missile in error are credible. Ali Abedzadeh, the chief of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, wrote in a preliminary report on the crash that both of the plane’s black boxes have been damaged, with physical damage visible. “Both devices have been damaged by fire and the accident. he United States believes that Iran mistakenly shot down the Ukrainian airliner in which 176 people were killed, CNN reported on Thursday citing several officials. President Donald Trump has indicated the plane crash was not due to mechanical issues, adding that “somebody could have made a mistake on the other side.” “Well, I have my suspicions,” said Trump when asked what he thought happened to the plane. “I don’t want to say that because other people have their suspicions,” Trump said, but added, “Somebody could have made a mistake on the other side ... not our system. It has nothing to do with us.” The Boeing 737 jet operated by Ukraine International Airlines took off early Wednesday from Tehran for Ukrainian capital Kiev. Minutes after taking off it disappeared from radar.
Eighty-two Iranians, 63 Canadians, and 11 Ukrainians died in the crash, which took place between the cities of Parand and Shahriar. There were also 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans and three British nationals among the victims. Early that day, Iran had launched strikes at US targets in Baghdad in retaliation to the killing of Iranian military leader General Qassem Soleimani. Meanwhile, Ukraine has opened an investigation to find out the cause of the crash. The country’s officials said they are looking into multiple causes for the crash including the missile strike or terrorism. Sweden has also joined the crash investigation on Thursday. Sweden Minister of Foreign Affairs Anne Linde told CNN that nothing was ruled out concerning the causes of the plane crash. The UK is looking into “very concerning” reports about the Iran plane crash, a Downing Street spokesperson said.
Tehran [Iran], Ja(Sputnik/ANI): The Iranian government has declared January 9 as the day of national mourning over the deadly Ukrainian passenger plane crash and a stampede at the funeral of Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Quds Force, in his hometown of Kerman, Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Wednesday. “Government expresses condolences to the families of our compatriots who died in Kerman during the funeral ceremony of slain commander Qassem Soleimani and in a plane crash this morning, the government declared January 9 a national mourning day,” Rabiei wrote on Twitter. Ukraine International Airlines’ (UIA) Boeing 737-800 plane crashed on Wednesday morning near Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, killing all 176 people on board. It was flying to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. On Tuesday, over 50 people were reported killed and more than 200 injured during a stampede at Soleimani’s funeral, as huge crowds of mourners packed the streets of Kerman, to pay their respects.

ABB Power Grids, Ashok Leyland team up for greener electric buses
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Jan 9 (ANI): Ashok Leyland and ABB Power Products and Systems India have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the public e-mobility space to expand the ecosystem for efficient and greener electric bus transportation systems in India. The pact outlines a partnership to develop a pilot electric bus based on ABB’s innovative flashcharge technology called TOSA which tops up the battery in just seconds while passengers get on and off the bus. This avoids the need to take the vehicle out of service for recharging every few hours or having a replacement bus ready, thus minimising the size of the fleet while increasing passenger-carrying capacity.

FOOTBALL HAS BECOME BUSINESS:
BARCELONA COACH VALVERDE
B
arcelona coach Ernesto Valverde criticised the new Supercopa format and said that “football has become a business and as a business it looks for income”. “The bottom line is football has become a business and as a business it looks for income. That’s the reason we are all here,” Goal.com quoted Valverde as saying ahead of Barca’s semi-final against Atletico. “It’s a completely different format to what we’re used to. It was always the first title and the opener of the season and to me, that seemed fine,” he added. The Supercopa was traditionally a two-legged affair played between the winners of La Liga and the Copa del Rey at the beginning of the season, but following last term’s one-off meet-
ing between Barca and Sevilla in Tangier, Morocco, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) went ahead with a full revamp. Instead of just two teams being involved, the Supercopa has been expanded to also include the runners-up from La Liga and the Copa - meaning Barca and Valencia are joined by Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. It is also set to be hosted in Saudi Arabia for the next three editions. “It’s been changed and let’s see, it will be judged once it has happened. It’s interesting, with four good teams, but from a sporting point of view, I’m not sure,” Valverde said. “We must bear in mind that the football we are involved in is an industry, sources of income are sought and in the same way that there are special connotations in this country, there are also in Morocco, where we played last year,” he added. Barcelona will face Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Supercopa at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on January 10. (ANI)
India men’s, women’s cricket team to be selected on January 12 New Delhi [India], Jan 9 (ANI): The Indian men’s and women’s teams for the New Zealand tour and ICC T20 World Cup, respectively, will be selected on January
12, according to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources. Indian men’s team will tour New Zealand for five T20I, three ODIs, and two Tests, starting from January
31. The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence from February 21 in Australia. Currently, India men’s team is hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series. The hosts have gained a 1-0 lead
in the series after securing a sevenwicket win over Sri Lanka in the second T20I. The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain. The third match between both teams will be played on January 10. (ANI)
REAL KASHMIR IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST TEAMS Five-day Test cricket is way to go, says Mickey Arthur AT HOME, SAYS YAN LAW
A
head of the ILeague clash with Real Kashmir, Punjab’s head coach Yan Law said that their opponents are strongest in home conditions. “Kashmir is one of the strongest teams at home. The weather, the artificial turf, the size of the pitch, and the fans are all in favour of Real Kashmir, “ Law said in a statement. Law said that the upcoming match will be a tough encounter but players have trained well and are ready for the clash. “It’s very difficult to get points off them for any travelling team. But the boys have worked hard and are ready to get the points we missed from the last game. Let’s hope for the best,” he said. Real Kashmir head Coach David Robertson believed that if the side remains consistent then beating Punjab will not be difficult. “Punjab is always a tough team to play against. We know it will be a tough encounter but we are looking forward to it.
If we play and work as hard as we have, we can win the game,” Robertson said. Commenting on the I-League games, Robertson said that the league is tough and full of twists and turns. “Hero I-League is very competitive and there is no easy game and every team is capable of beating each other so there will be a lot of twists and turns as we move on,” he said. Last season following the Pulwama terror attack, Punjab team refused to travel to Srinagar for the match against Real Kashmir. Both teams will lock horns with each other on January 10 at the TRC Turf Ground in Srinagar. (ANI)
Pune (Maharashtra) [India], Jan 9 (ANI): Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur said that Test ‘five-day test cricket is the way to go’. “I think five-day Test cricket is the way to go. Test cricket challenges you mentally, physically and technically,” Arthur said pre-match press-conference. Coach Arthur said that Test cricket fabric of Test cricket shouldn’t be messed with as challenges players mentally, physically and technically. “I think the fabric of Test cricket shouldn’t be messed with. You want wickets deteriorating down on day five, you want thrillers that go all the way, there are a lot of really good exciting draws where one team plays it out,” he said. Currently, Team India is leading the three-match T20I series 1-0. In the second match, Virat Kohli led side defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second match while the first game was abandoned due to rain. India will take on Sri Lanka in the third T20I match at Pune on January 10. (ANI)

Drones to revolutionise fruit farming! T h e w o r d ‘d r o n e’ o f t e n invokes images of things like aerial photography or launching missiles and bombs in warzones, but since recreantly, these ingenious and gravity-defying marvels of engineering are finding new applications in areas nobody would have thought of before. Olga Walsh, University of Idaho, is researching the use of drones for fruit trees. Most of the agricultural applications for drones - or, more technically unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) - have been on grain crops like wheat, corn, and soy. “Adoption and use of crop sensors in production agriculture save thousands of dollars every year in many crops,” says Walsh. “C rop s e n s or s a l s o h e lp t o significantly improve the efficiency of agricultural inputs, such as fertilisers and water. Finally, drones can minimise the negative impacts of agricultural activities on environmental quality.” Walsh’s research team focused on applying UAV technology to fruit trees. Her previous work has been with wheat and other crops. “We know drones can be used in orchards,” says Walsh. “But there aren’t any grower recommendations regarding what data needs to be collected and what kind of data is most useful, depending on the grower objective.” The most promising ways the drones could be employed for the orchards and tree nurseries include- taking inventory of tree height and canopy volume;
monitoring tree health and quality; managing water, nutrients, pests and disease in-season; estimating fruit/ nut production and yield and creating marketing tools. Like with other uses of drones in agriculture, Walsh’s work helps to collect detailed information about the crops, faster than humans could by physically “scouting” the fields. “The UAVs are capable of acquiring images with high resolutions that are ideal for detecting various crop issues,” says Walsh. “The UAV systems allow scanning the crops from above. They obtain high-
quality images and high-resolution spectral data. This is correlated with plant growth, health, water and nutrient status, and can be used to estimate biomass production.” It’s not just about the speed of scouting a field. “Sensors can function within regions of the electromagnetic spectrum where human eyes can’t,” says Walsh. “Sensors are much more reliable and objective than visual assessment. They provide quantitative information (numeric data that can be measured and compared) versus qualitative information (descriptive data that can
be observed).” Team members also perform out re ach. “We conduc t g rower education on the use of remote sensing and using UAVs for crop monitoring,” says Walsh. “We do demonstration flights and produce publications to boost grower adoption of precision agriculture methods.” “The overall goal of this work is to strengthen sustainability and competitiveness of Idaho fruit tree producers,” says Walsh. “Our findings increased awareness, knowledge, and adoption of crop sensors and UAVs.” (ANI)

ON HRITHIK ROSHAN’S BIRTHDAY, THE ACTOR CONTINUES TO INSPIRE MILLENNIALS WITH HIS CHARACTERS AND LOOKS
F
rom being called as the greek god for his exceptional looks to the varied characters that showed his versatility on the silver screen, Hrithik Roshan has wowed and entertained the Millenials by taking challenging roles ever since he made his debut. The list would be incomplete without mentioning ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, the movie where it all began and shot Hrithik to fame. Hrithik played a double role in the movie first as Rohit and then Raj and won over the audience with his perfect looks and remarkable acting skills. The actor won the hearts of millions across the nation with his performance in yet another hit ‘Koi... Mil Gaya’ where he played the role of a man whose brain functions like an 11-year-old.
A role like that came with its own complications but Hrithik pulled it off with utmost ease. There are many on this list of films that stay memorable for us but the nation witnessed its first superhero with ‘Krrish’. This film, the sequel to ‘Koi... Mil Gaya’ quite literally turned the superstar into a Superhero and was the perfect time for us to love him even more. Taking about a legacy of challenging roles, Hrithik’s ‘Guzaarish’ added to the already known fact about him being a brilliant actor and portraying the role of a quadriplegic with utmost diligence shot the actor into a league of his own. With ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, Hrithik gave a performance that was drool-worthy and adding to it were his dance moves that swept the nation away. That chiselled
body and a look to die for, we still can’t gushing over Arjun! Well, it would not be wrong to say that Hrithik owned the year 2019 like a boss! While he had a content-driven ‘Super 30’ as one of his best performances as an actor, there was the biggest hit of his career in the form of the Yash Raj Films-backed ‘WAR’ where we are still in love with his character Agent Kabir.
LEONARDO DICAPRIO’S ORGANISATION TO DONATE 3 MILLION USD FOR AUSTRALIA WILDFIRE RELIEF
A
ctor Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental organisation has announced a donation of USD 3 million towards the devastating bush fires that are ravaging Australia. The 45-year-old actor is the co-chairman of Earth Alliance, an organisation that works to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. The organistation has created the Australia Wildfire Fund in a concerted effort to help relieve the people suffering from the catastrophic
bushfires, reported Fox News. The blazing Australia wildfires have scorched an area twice the size of the U.S. state of Maryland. The blazes have destroyed at least 2000 homes, 25 people and over a billion animals have been killed. The fires have been raging since September, and the year has been reported as the hottest and driest in records, which seems to be fueling to the bushfires. The academy-winning actor has joined joins a growing list of other celebrities who have rallied to
donate big bucks. Earlier this week, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth and Elton John each offered USD 1 million for the cause. The list of celebs goes long including Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Pink followed by Kylie Jenner who has donated USD 1 million. Metallica also pledged to donate USD 750,000 to a firefighting agency and emergency services agency in Victoria. English actor Phoebe WallerBridge said she would auction off her Golden Globes outfit and have the proceeds go to firefighter relief.

Ajay Devgn-Kajol period drama to get a fantastic start It is a good week for movie buffs as films from different genres have hit the screens. For those who have an eye for period dramas and like watching untold stories of Indian history, there is
Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Film trade analysts believe it can pull the family audience to cinema halls in huge numbers and predict its great opening at the ticket counters. “Tanhaji is a magnum opus. It tells the tale of an unsung
warrior from the Maratha community. The pre-release buzz suggests the film will have a good box office collection. It will be releasing in over 3000 screens. It is also coming in 3D to justify its scale on the big screen. So, I am expecting a fantastic start for the Om Raut directorial and then depending upon word of mouth, a long run at the box office is also expected. I will peg the film at Rs 10 crore,” film trade analyst Girish Johar
Hats off to Deepika Padukone
M
eghna Gulzar’s latest directorial Chhapaak has hit screens. Starring Deepika Padukone as Malti and Vikrant Massey as Amol, the film is based on the life of acid attack survivor and social activist Laxmi Agarwal. Talking about getting into the shoes of her intense character, Deepika told “To be honest, you can’t be prepared for something like this. The preparation is all theoretical. I have met Laxmi (Agarwal), done workshops with Meghna and done readings with the actors. But those final moments of what it might have been like (for a victim) only played out when Meghna called out ‘action’. Before that, you are working on assumptions and wondering maybe it’s going to be like this. You prepare yourself based on those assumptions. Between ‘action’ and ‘cut’ is when I emotionally had to go through what Laxmi or someone like her has probably been through. Maybe, that’s why this role has taken an emotional toll on me.” Ranveer began his post by acknowledging Meghna and her recent film like Raazi and Talwar. He wrote, “Meghna, your film gives the audience hope and courage. It shows you the best and worst of humanity in a kaleidoscopic cinematic spectrum. It elucidates a subject that we’ve only ever heard of but never really fully understood. It offers a definitive and insightful deep-dive into the horrific gamut of acid violence.
New Delhi [India], Jan 9 (ANI): Less than a few hours of the release of the widely anticipated Meghana Gulzar’s movie ‘Chhapaak’, Ranveer Singh wrote a lengthy post on social media on Thursday in which he has all the good words for Deepika Padukone, Meghna Gulzar, and the movie.

In a bid to make Uber rides safer, the company has announced a slew of safety features in India and South Asia such as
RideCheck, Audio Recording and PIN verification. Uber said in a press release that Audio Recording will be rolled out as a pilot in India later this year.
Using the RideCheck feature, Uber will try and figure out irregularities on a trip like unexpected stops, which could raise potential safety concerns. In such cases, Uber will initiate a RideCheck wherein both the driver and rider will be reached out to for a safety check. “This new safety feature will enable Uber to flag certain trip irregularities, like long, unexpected stops or midway drops that might, in some rare cases, indicate an increased safety risk, especially for women. This marks the first step by Uber to proactively reach out to users during a trip and offer tools they may need to get help,” Uber said.

In conjugation to this, the rats were administered a tea containing phytochemicals, flavonoids, and amino acids. Caffeine dosages ranged from 65 to 135 milligrams per serving. The rats were also fed additional sources of caffeine. The final result of this experiment showed that the rats that were administered caffeine dropped a significant amount of body fat. The fat absorption went down by 22 per cent and weight gain slowed down by 16 per cent.

Loaded Handgun Seized From Man Border Patrol Arrests Three Illegally Present in the U.S. Attempting to Smuggle Illegal Aliens
U.S.CBP NEWS RELEASE DEL RIO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to an Eagle Pass Station temporary checkpoint seized a loaded handgun from a man attempting to smuggle four illegal aliens, Jan. 5. Agents discovered a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun under the driver’s seat. “Smugglers in possession of loaded firearms are of serious concern to me,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “However, our agents are prepared and remain determined to keep our communities and country safe.” On Jan. 5, agents assigned to a temporary checkpoint near Eagle Pass observed a 2016 Dodge Charger turn around before the checkpoint and pull over. Agents then observed several individuals run into the brush. In total, agents arrested six people including two male smugglers and discovered a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun under the driver’s seat.
The driver, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen, and passenger, a 21-year-old U.S. citizen, both from Crystal City, were arrested for attempting to smuggle four illegal aliens farther into the United States. The illegal aliens consisted of two Ecuadorians, one Nicaraguan, and one Honduran. Both smugglers face felony charges under 8 USC 1324, alien smuggling, and if convicted could receive up to 10 years in prison. All illegal aliens are processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidelines.
U.S. CBP NEWS RELEASE AUBURN, ME – On Sunday, January 5, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Auburn area to conduct transportation check operations encountered three individuals who were later found to be illegally present in the United States. Agents encountered a suspicious vehicle while on their way to conduct transportation check operations. After questioning the passengers about their citizenship it was determined that they were all illegally present in the United States. Record checks later indicated that two individuals had been ordered removed by an immigration judge after the individuals knowingly and admittedly failed to appear for their immigration hearing. The judge issued them a final order of removal in abstentia.
The third individual had over-stayed the validity date of his B2 non-immigration visa. “Transportation checks are one of the many enforcement approaches the Border Patrol has to secure our nation’s border,” said Jason D. Owens, Chief Patrol Agent of the Border Patrol in Maine. Agents transported the three Hondurans to the Rangeley Border Patrol station for processing, then turned them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The Border Patrol in Maine relies on the cooperation and assistance of the public. Anyone wishing to make a confidential report of suspicious activity may do so by calling (800) 851-8727 to contact the U.S. Border Patrol in Maine.

Eleven Firms Banned from Applying for H-1B Visas BY A STAFF WRITER WASHINGTON , DC- The U.S. Labor Department Dec. 1 barred 11 firms from being able to apply for H-1B visas. (h1b.io graphic) The U.S. Department of Labor Dec. 1 released a list of 11 firms who are currently disbarred from applying for H-1B visas, often used by Indian workers. The disbarment periods range from just a few months to almost two years. Six of the 11 firms were termed “willful violators,” meaning they had failed to comply with the criteria required to apply for an H-1B visa and had Labor Department investigations pending against them. A fact sheet released by the Labor Department explains that firms applying for H-1B visas for temporary, highly-skilled workers from abroad must meet several criteria. An employer must not have displaced a U.S. worker at the time of filing an H-1B petition; they also must have made substantive attempts to recruit U.S. workers. If the H-1B worker is to be placed at a secondary job site, the petitioner must ensure that the secondary employer has not displaced
a U.S. worker, and that The employer has offered the job to any equally or better qualified U.S. worker who applies for the job for which the H-1B worker is sought. Employers circumventing such rules or misrepresenting facts regarding whether they obeyed the rules are termed willful violators. The six willful violators on the Labor Department’s list include: Business Reporting Management Services, Inc., based in Parlin New Jersey. The firm’s disbarment period began in August 2018 and
continues to August 2020. Comprehensive Kids Development School, based in New York. The school’s disbarment period began in April 2019 and will continue until April 2021. A Google search indicated that the school may have shut down. E-Aspire IT, LLC, based in Cranbury, New Jersey. The firm’s debarment period also lasts from April 2019 to April 2021. How We Fund It, Inc., is disqualified from October 2019 to October 2021. Kimberly Fisher, whose firm could not be found. Fisher’s debarment period lasts from October 2019 to October 2021. The Law Office of Paul Wiesenfeld in Rockville, Maryland is barred from April 2019 to April 2021. Five other firms not termed willful violators were also announced as disbarred. They include: Azimetry, Inc., in Redmond, Washington; Bulman Consultant Group in Chicago, Illinois; EWC and Associates, who has since shut down; Kevin Chambers, whose information could not be found; and NetAge, based in West Newto
U.S. Census Bureau Seeks Nationwide 500,000 Temporary Workers BY A STAFF WRITER WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Census Bureau has launched a national recruitment effort to hire 500,000 temporary workers to help conduct the 2020 Census. “We need people to apply now so they can be considered for part-time census taker positions next spring,” said Timothy Olson, Census Bureau associate director for field operations. “Recent high school graduates, veterans, retirees, military spouses, seasonal workers and applicants who are bilingual are highly encouraged to apply. It’s important we hire people in every community in order to have a complete and accurate census.” These positions offer competitive pay, flexible hours, paid training and weekly paychecks. Most households in the nation will receive invitations in the mail to respond (online, by phone or by mail) in March
2020. Census takers will be hired to work in their communities and go door to door to collect responses from those who do not respond as well as in remote regions. The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census of the population be conducted once every 10 years. Census data are used
to determine congressional representation in the states and how billions of dollars in federal funds are distributed to states and local communities every year for critical public services and infrastructure, including health clinics, schools, roads and emergency services.
Illegal Gas Station in Backyard Discovered by Las Vegas Firefighters BY A STAFF WRITER LAS VEGAS, NV- Las Vegas firefighters have discovered what officials described as an illegal, homemade gas station in a backyard. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue shared images online of the makeshift gas station discovered by firefighters Tuesday showing two yellow tanks in the corner of a walled yard with a gas pump nozzle on the end of hose. The hose was long enough to reach from the yard to the street for “possible curbside fill ups,” the department said in a social media post. “This is not only illegal in the city, it is a hazard to neighbors (and) first responders who may respond there for an emergency, like a fire,” the department said. The backyard station may be part of an illegal trend involving people who purchase gasoline with stolen credit card information before emptying the fuel into storage containers at private homes, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officials said. The city’s code enforcement office is
