first mandatory quarantine since 1963 after they were evacuated from the coronavirus-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan. They were flown by governmentchartered cargo jet on Jan. 29 to March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County about 60 miles (97 km) east of Los Angeles where they were in quarantine
for 14-days – the outer limit of the virus’ possible incubation period. None tested positive for coronavirus, but their arrival stoked unfounded fears in the local community that they or base personnel would spread the disease, Riverside County public health officer Cameron Kaiser told a press conference.
Scientists in the US have developed an interactive map of the novel coronavirus spread, that allows users to see the number of cases worldwide, recoveries and deaths, as well as trends in realtime. The map updates every few hours with data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization (WHO), Chinese and other government agencies, including those in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. “Mapping is a powerful tool to tell social, cultural and political phenomena,” said Bo Zhao, an assistant professor at the University of Washington in the US.

TECHNOLOGY Apple Watch outsold the entire Swiss watch industry in 2019 Apple Watch beat the entire Swiss watch industry for the year in terms of shipments and saw double digit growth, according to a new report. That Apple Watch was the number one selling smartwatch was never disputed, but it looks like the device also beat the entire Swiss watch industry for the year. A report from Strategy Analytics estimates that the Apple Watch outsold the entire Swiss Watch industry in 2019, and this was not even a close a fight if one goes by the numbers mentioned in the report. Apple Watch shipped nearly 31 million units across the world in 2019, compared to the 21 million shipments for all Swiss watch brands combined, according to the report. Previously in 2017, it was reported that the Apple Watch outsold the entire Swiss Watch industry, but that was only for the fourth quarter. In September 2017, Apple CEO Tim Cook had called the Apple Watch as the best-selling watch in the world, ahead of brands like Rolex, but he did not give out any numbers.

Xiaomi teases Redmibook 13, set to launch in India Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is enticing the audience by releasing a video teaser which mysteriously states that the brand will enter a new product category on February 11. Will Redmi launch a new smartphone? Hopefully not. The device we expect to see tomorrow could be the long-awaited Redmibook. And the video does seem
to suggest that Redmi is gearing up to launch a laptop in the Indian market. At the moment, India’s laptop market is ruled by Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Acer. Given the market size, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Xiaomi entering the laptop market. In fact, it makes sense for Redmi to look beyond the smartphone market, which is already crowded

Here’s how you can comfortably doze off on a flight
The inability to sleep a wink when flying from one destination to another is incredibly frustrating. The inability to sleep a wink when flying from one destination to another is incredibly frustrating, especially when you are flying across time zones and are likely to experience a jet lag anyway.
Makeup artist Arti Nayar has given us a step by step guide to recreate Mehta’s day look. Shloka Mehta picked lehengas from Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s collection, giving her brownie points. Makeup artist Arti Nayar has spilled the beans and given us a step-to-step guide to recreate Mehta’s day look. * Prep and prime your skin with face oil or serum before applying make-up so that you achieve a smooth base. * After the face, move to your eyes as they should not look tired. Prep the under-eye by applying an eye cream so they look hydrated. * Then move on to a colour corrector, applying it where you have pigmentation or uneven skin tone. Use a blending sponge to make it look seamless. Peach corrector and natural beige are two commonly used shades for the Indian skin tone. * For the foundation, she went for airbrush but you can also opt for regular liquid foundation. To set it, use loose powder and let it bake. * It’s now time to frame you face with sharp bold eyebrows. * Moving on, she added some colour to her face with pink tint on the cheeks, followed by highlighter. * For the eyes, she went for light pink eyeshadow with a little shine and added black winged liner generously for that Indian traditional touch. * Keep the bottom lash line soft by applying only a little soft pink eyeshadow, followed by a little brown only on the outer corner. * Complete the look with lovely false lashes and mascara. * Round off the look with nude lip colour layered with a little pink gloss.
Carry a sleep mask It is advisable to have a sleep mask on you at all times, when you are travelling. It does not have to be fancy, but practical. A good sleep mask will block the light, allowing you to drift off comfortably. Carry earplugs Light sleepers may get disturbed by the constant roar of the engine. A pair of earplugs will be able to block the noise, enabling them to drift off sooner. There are different kinds of ear plugs available in the market, and you can choose one that serves your type. Pack a pillow Remember to carry your own pillow when you are travelling. In the event that you have to sleep in sitting position, the horse shoe-shaped neck cushions can come handy. They give support to your
neck and shoulders, and make sure there are no aches when you wake up. Aromatherapy Just like on ground, aromatherapy can help you relax when you are in the air, too. As such, carry some handcreams and essential oils that have sleep aiding properties. Scents that have lavender, vetiver, sandalwood and chamomile essence in them can do wonders. Do not stress Stressing about sleep can lead to more sleeplessness. Even when nothing works, relax. Breathe easy and close your eyes. Give your senses some rest, and tell yourself to calm down. Remember, there is no pressure. It is great if you manage to sleep, but even if you don’t, it is not the end of the world. Think happy thoughts, instead.

The two actors soon began making red carpet appearances together and even attended several B-town weddings hand-in-hand. Alia was also by Ranbir and his family’s side when his father Rishi Kapoor was undergoing cancer treatment in New York.

Angad Bedi on his role in MumBhai : Fascinated by nature of crimes
Web Series News
Three months ago, Angad Bedi had revealed that he was set to undergo rigorous training for his role of a cop — à la Daya Nayak — for Ekta Kapoor’s MumBhai. However, the prep for the actor was not just physical; understanding the psyche of an encounter specialist in a show set in the ‘90s was just as important. “I stumbled upon a few encounter cases of the ‘90s and went through the reports on them. I was fascinated by the reasons behind the encounters, the kind of criminals that existed, and the crimes committed during the underworld rule. I used that research to enhance my character. It also helped me [connect with] the story better. It was essential to explore their modus operandi, which is what my research helped me achieve,” says Bedi.

waist circumference was the strongest predictor of visceral fat (the fat stored inside the abdominal cavity and around several vital organs), which poses the most significant health risk. Secondly, they argue for the inclusion of waist circumference guidelines in the global obesity sur veillance schemes, seeing that more and more people have abdominal obesity. Not having waist circumference guidelines alongside BMI may provide an inaccurate picture of the global prevalence of obesity and recent trends, they say. Furthermore, “lifestyle-induced reductions in waist circumference are associated with improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors with or without corresponding weight loss,” write the authors, adding that waist circumference can be lowered with exercise or diet, “with or without corresponding weight loss.” New guidelines : 80 cm for women and 90 cm for men of moderate weight 90 cm for women and 100 cm for men with overweight 105 cm for women and 110 cm for men with obesity I 115 cm for women and 125 cm for men with obesity II and III “Individuals with measurements higher than these values have a high risk of future coronary events,”

Is cancer overdiagnosis a problem?
New research suggests that doctors overdiagnose a large percentage of cancers each year
It is well established that diagnosed cancer cases in the developed world have been increasing steadily over the past few decades. An estimated 1 in 2 people now receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives. There are a number of reasons for this, including an aging population, advancing methods of detection, and higher levels of awareness around the signs and symptoms of cancer. The way health professionals treat cancer has also evolved over time. This is due to a better understanding of cancer-causing genes and the development of better methods to treat the condition.
Coronavirus could infect 60% of the world’s population if it is left ‘unchecked
The coronavirus epidemic could spread to about two-thirds of the world’s population if it cannot be controlled, according to Hong Kong’s leading public health epidemiologist. His warning came after the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said recent cases of coronavirus patients who had never visited China could be the “tip of the iceberg”. Prof Gabriel Leung, the chair of public health medicine at Hong Kong University, said the overriding question was to figure out the size and shape of the iceberg. Most experts thought that each person infected would go on to transmit the virus to about 2.5 other people. That gave an “attack rate” of 60-80%. “Sixty per cent of the world’s population is an awfully big number,” Leung told Police cordon off a residential estate in Hong Kong. The global death toll the Guardian in London, en route to an expert meeting at the WHO in Geneva on Tuesday. from coronavirus could be massive, says Gabriel Leung.

BY A STAFF WRITER JERSEY CITY, NJ- Hindu protest, The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing is refusing to withdraw printed copies of its student newspaper “The Signal” from various locations, which states “Hinduism is an unforgiving religion”. “…we decline your requests to retrieve printed copies of The Signal or to remove the article”, “The Signal” Editor-in-Chief Emmy Liederman wrote yesterday in an email to Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who spearheaded the protest. The printed January 29 issue of “The Signal” (Spring 2020 No. 1) in PDF, hosted by Issuu, carrying this objectionable statement, also continues to be posted on “The Signal” website. It was highly inappropriate and insensitive for the newspaper of a “Top Public College” funded by tax dollars and student fees (many of whom were Hindu) to belittle Hinduism, world’s oldest and third largest religion with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought; Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, said in Nevada today. Despite repeated requests through emails by Rajan Zed to the College President Dr. Kathryn A. Foster and others, the student newspaper containing “Hinduism is an unforgiving religion”, continues to be available in many campus locations and its website. This type of continual and unwarranted denigration of their religion was heartbreaking for the Hindu community in general and the Hindu student population of TCNJ in particular, Zed noted. Zed had also urged New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Zakiya Smith Ellis to launch an enquiry into it; and TCNJ Trustees Chair Susanne Svizeny and President Foster to offer a
formal apology to the Hindu community. Zed is also requesting an introductory article about Hinduism in the next edition of “The Signal” to clear the misconceptions thus created. Such a derogatory statement against a religion coming out of a public educational institution was really shocking for the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful Hindu community; which had made lot of contributions to New Jersey, USA and society in general; and continued to do so; Rajan Zed added. Is this how TCNJ accomplishes its Mission of developing “responsible citizens”, Vision of serving “as a national exemplar of public higher education”, Values of “treat each other with civility and respect” and “committed to building a diverse and inclusive community”; Zed wonders. Rajan Zed further said that Hindus were for free speech and artistic expression as much as anybody else if not more. But faith was something sacred and attempts at trivializing it hurt the devotees. The feature-article, which began with “Hinduism is an unforgiving religion”, was written by “Nation & World Editor” of awardwinning “The Signal” (among the oldest collegiate weeklies, since 1855). “Highly selective” awards-winning TCNJ, on 289 tree-lined acres, enrolls about 7,400 graduate and undergraduate students and offers over 50 programs. There are about three million Hindus in USA. New Jersey reportedly has the highest percentage of Hindus in the nation.
