China than inside the hardest-hit country, the World Health Organisation said on Wednesday. “Yesterday, the number of new cases reported outside China exceeded the number of new cases in China for the first time,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told diplomats in Geneva, according to a written version of his speech. The UN health agency put the number of new cases in China at 411 on Tuesday and those registered outside the country

HiIndia Newsdesk WHITTIER, CA- Local police is investigating the death of Maninder Singh Sahi, an Indian shop clerk, who was shot dead on Saturday while at his job. Sahi was working as a cashier at a 7-Eleven store in the Los Angeles county area, when a suspected robber reportedly burst in to the store. A man with a semi-automatic handgun entered the store at in the 8400 block of Santa Fe Springs Road shortly before 5.45am, Hugo Figueroa officer of the Whitter Police Department. The robber used the gun on Sahi even though surveillance footage shows that Sahi was co-operating with the robber. Video of the incident has not been released. “There was no struggle,” Figueroa said. “The victim was complying and for whatever reason the shooter decided to shoot him and fled.” Two customers were also in the store at the time of the incident but were left unharmed according to reports.

HiIndia Newsdesk The Telangana government has decided to pass a resolution in the assembly against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Five states — Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan — and Union Territory Puducherry have already passed resolutions against the law. The Cabinet has also appealed to the Centre “not to discriminate” on the basis of religion in granting citizenship to anyone. It also requested Centre to abrogate the citizenship legislation as it will lead to discrimination on the basis of religion while granting citizenship and, thereby, jeopardise secularism envisaged in the Constitution. The Telangana government took the decision on Sunday in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, while urging the Centre to repeal last year’s changes in the Citizenship Act. Earlier this month, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) became the first civic body in the country to pass a resolution against CAA.

Karnataka to launch more ‘pink buses’ to help women in rural areas fight cancer

In a bid to aid early detection of cancer among women in rural areas, the Karnataka government is set to launch eight more ‘Pink Buses’. According to health department officials, the buses, procured under the National Health Mission funds, will be fully fitted with cancer detection equipment such as machines for ultrasound, X-ray, mammogram for breast examination, and colposcope for cervix examination. “These buses are expected to be commissioned by March 2020, after the state budget, scheduled to be presented on March 5, lays down their fund allocation,” an official said. Each bus will have a team of doctors, paramedical staff, and technicians. Also equipped with laboratory arrangements for collecting blood and biopsy samples, these buses will ply in different districts.

am one of those 90s kids who felt uneasy after watching the likes of Aahat, Zee Horror Show, and the ramifications were a lack of sleep for days. Still, I decided to watch Bhoot: The Haunted Ship. You may ask, why? Mainly because I am enamoured by Vicky Kaushal, and the plot seemed intriguing. When the teaser and trailer of Bhoot dropped, I gathered

Here’s how the researchers came to this conclusion The researchers conducted a three-day laboratory study of 16 men who consumed a low-calorie breakfast and high-calorie dinner, and vice versa in a second round. They found identical calorie consumption led to 2.5 times higher DIT in the morning than in the evening after high-calorie and low-calorie meals. The food-induced increase of blood sugar and insulin concentrations was diminished after breakfast compared with dinner.

NCAIA in Partnership with Indian community organizations launched Census 2020 Drive

BY A STAFF WRITER CHICAGO,IL- National Council of Asian Indian Associations [NCAIA] – in conjunction with the leading Indian American community organizations -- in collective spirit of unity formally launched Census 2020 Complete Count Committee for Indian Community to unveil the significance of Census 2020 to get an accurate count of the burgeoning Indian American population as it expressly affects the community funding, congressional representation and other federally funded community programs. NCAIA is partnering with over 20 major Indian American organizations and with the U.S. Census Bureau of Midwest region to form a Complete Count Committee for Indian diaspora. This official Census 2020 drive for the Asian Indians was formally launched on Sunday February 23, 2020 at Metropolitan Family Service Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. This major milestone Census 2020 drive in the Indian American community initiative is being championed by Harish Kolasani, National President of NCAIA along with four principal community partners: Mrs. Santosh Kumar, Iftekhar Shareef, Keerthi Kumar Ravoori and Shree Guruswamy with Teresa Lee of the US Census Bureau serving as the official coordinator in lending assistance in this huge undertaking. FIA – Chicago Celebrates Indian Heritage Night during the Windy City Bulls Basketball Game

BY A STAFF WRITER HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL, – The IndianAmerican community organization Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of Chicago, celebrated Indian Heritage Night for the 4th consecutive year, at the Sears Center Arena where the Windy City Bulls – the official NBA G League affiliates of the Chicago Bulls, took on the Lakeland Magic. FIA Chicago is a 501 (c)(3) status, nonprofit umbrella organization of other Indian Associations in the Chicago land and Mid-West representing in excess of 300,000 culturally diverse but united together Asian-Indians. FIA has been actively engaged in serving the Indian American community for the past 10 years and has been instrumental in promoting Indian culture. Founder President of FIA Sunil Shah, along with the current President Gurmeet Singh Dhalwan, and Founder & Past President Onkar Singh Sangha, presided over the Indian Heritage Night celebrations. The event began

with Ananya Ghosh singing the Indian National anthem, followed immediately by the American National anthem, sung by Nitya Nair. Sunil Shah was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for celebrating four years of Indian Heritage Night. Besides a very exciting game between the competing teams, and the Windy City Bulls finally winning in the end, the highlight of the evening was the exquisite dance performances showcasing the Indian Dance forms, during the quarter breaks that enthralled the audience. USA Cricket : A Step in the Right Direction BY DR. NILESH D. MEHTA CHICAGO,ILTransparency is what the new administration of USA Cricket has worked for and it was quite obvious during the 35 minutes of the 2020 Annual General Meeting hosted by Chairman and the CEO of USA Cricket on February 21. Overall vision of the future of cricket in USA was brought to light and some ambitious projects were outlined. In January 2019, USA Cricket was approved as ICC’s 105th (Associate) member and while there were some forgettable moments in the calendar year, it appears that the stage is set for big things to come to USA Cricket. In its first Annual General Meeting, Board Chairman Paraag Marathe laid out his vision for the success of this sport in a country where cricket viewership and the potential for financial success is massive. In his address to the members, Marathe said, “ We have an opportunity to make history. We have a latent fan base that has an appetite for global cricket” He also acknowledged that other nations who were playing cricket do realize the massive potential USA has to offer. Being an integral part of the National Football League’s San Fransiciso 49ers, Marathe brings leadership qualities to his new job. He further mentioned, “I chose to do this and have realized the massive embedded fan base”. While highlighting his four points in his address, he was particularly proud of the USA Men’s National Team achieving ODI status. He also mentioned the strategic partnership with American Cricket Enterprises to not only launch a domestic T20 league of international appeal but also drive forward the overall development of cricket at various levels including minor leagues. With regards to Women’s cricket initiatives, Marathe added, “ In 2020 we’ll be targeting large growth in the women’s game across the country, as well as trying to uncover and nurture the next generation of women cricketers around which appropriate pathways and programs can be built.” In January 2019, USA Cricket partnered with global leader Creative Artists Agency and screened several candidates to ultimately select and appoint Iain Higgins as the first CEO of USA Cricket in August 2019. After having spent five months in USA, Higgins has been very active in pursuing the betterment of cricket in this country. During his address to the members of USA Cricket, he described his assignment as “greatest role in world cricket”. Through unified goodwill, Higgins was confident of moving forward in international space for this sport. While the interim term for USA coach James Pamment has come to an end, search is on for a permanent coach for team USA. Unfortunately, towards the end of his interim career, there were unpleasant situations that were created which he had to handle and now Pamment will be focusing on the IPL team from Mumbai. Higgins was also appreciative of the contribution of several individual players including Hayden Walsh, Aaron Jones, and Saurabh Netravalkar. Debacle in Nepal will unfortunately remain in the minds of the players and it will be the joint effort of administration and coaching that will be needed to pull up the straps and move forward in a positive direction. Every team has their low moments, but, the ability to get out of those moments will eventually define a team. There is a core group of individual cricketers in the team that will continue to contribute to the betterment of this sport, however, unearthing new talent and providing the right infrastructure is what USA cricket is looking into. The new CEO also spoke about the potential of staging a global ICC event in USA. He also has his eyes set on the Los Angeles 2028 olympics and getting cricket to become a more recognized international sport at the world stage. He also showered his praise on USA Women’s Head Coach, Julia Price.
