INDIA LOCKDOWN: THOUSANDS WALK HOME, HUNDREDS OF KMS AWAY
India has more than 600,000 villages, and its central and state governments have little or no knowledge of what is happening in most of them. By contrast, the Chinese Communist Party is present, and has a committee, in every single village of the country. It is able to have these because it has 70 million members. This is four times the combined strength of the central and state government bureaucracies in India, and these 70 million function in a country where accountability to higher authority is close to complete. China imposed a total lockdown only in Hubei province, where COVID-19 started. And it had to keep it going for three months – not three weeks – to bring the virus under control. In India, once the virus reaches the villages only the extreme heat of summer will be able to check its further spread and that effect, while likely, cannot be taken for granted. Senate passes historic $2 trillion stimulus package to curb effects of coronavirus HiIndia Newsdesk WASHINGTON – The Senate approved its largest emergency aid package in modern history that will offer $2 trillion to help Americans, hospitals and businesses weather the effects of the coronavirus. The vote late Wednesday night was 96-0. The bill will now go to the House for approval before it’s sent to President Donald Trump for his signature. House Majority Leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., announced that the House will vote on the $2 trillion bill Friday, and that they will convene at 9 a.m. “We expect the bill to pass by voice vote,” he said. The death toll in the United States topped 1,000 on Wednesday night as the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the country. America’s first death was reported on Feb. 29 and the rate has spiked over the past two weeks as extreme public health measures go into effect to combat the virus. The U.S. death count eclipsed 600 on Tuesday and 900 early Wednesday before reaching 1,050 early Thursday, according to the Johns Hopkins University data dashboard.. States and cities have instituted shelterin-place and stay-at-home orders in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. The number of cases continues to rise rapidly as testing expands nationwide. The worldwide death count surpassed 21,000 on Wednesday.

Donald Trump vows to protect Asian Americans, says spread of coronavirus ‘not their fault’ HiIndia Newsdesk
The US has strongly condemned the terror attack on a prominent gurdwara in the heart of Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul, with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying the people of the strifetorn country deserve a future free from the ISIS and other terrorist activity. At least 25 worshippers were killed and eight others injured when a heavily armed suicide bomber stormed his way into the gurdwara on Wednesday in one of the deadliest attacks on the minority Sikh community in the country.

water way and was monitored by Taiwan’s armed forces, the island’s defence ministry said in a statement on Thursday. It described the sailing as an “ordinary mission”, saying there was no cause for alarm. Anthony Junco, a spokesman for the US Seventh Fleet, said the ship was the guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell, which conducted “a routine Taiwan Strait transit March 25 (local time) in accordance with international law”. “The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The US Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows,” he said. Taiwan is China’s most sensitive territorial and diplomatic issue and Beijing has never ruled out the use of force to bring the island under its control.
US President Donald Trump has defended the Asian Americans, calling them “amazing people”, following the increasing attack on the community after his use of the term “Chinese virus” for the deadly coronavirus. Last week, President Trump said that China is responsible for the spread of the novel coronavirus and called the COVID-19 as the “Chinese Virus”. He insisted the term was accurate because the virus originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. “It is very important that we totally protect our Asian-American community in the United States and all around the world,” Trump told reporters at a White House news conference. “They (Asian Americans) are amazing
people and the spreading of the virus is not their fault in any way, shape or form. They are working closely with us to get
rid of it. We will prevail together. That is very important,” Trump said. Over the last few days reports have emerged of a series of attacks on Chinese Americans.
His critics, in particular human rights bodies and the Democrats, allege that his recent remarks describing coronavirus as “Chinese Virus” because of its origin, has created anti-Chinese atmosphere in the US. However, Trump has denied this. Asian-American group has been the target of a growing number of racist and xenophobic attacks related to the virus. “It seems that there could be a little bit of nasty language towards the Asian Americans in our country and I don’t like that at all. These are incredible people. They love our country and I’m not going to let it happen. So I just wanted to make that point,? Trump said. According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, the death toll from the virus globally has risen to 16,559 with 381,598 cases reported in 168 countries and territories.

The spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India’s slums will be even faster than in the non-slum areas we seem to be tracking so far. Overcrowding, lack of clean water, poor sanitation, social dependency, larger number of human contacts, low disease immunity of dwellers, besides poor medical facilities make for tremendous speed and size of virus transmission in slums. The poor quality of air in urban slums are a common cause for respiratory diseases that further reduces the respiratory tract’s ability to shut the coronavirus down. India is home to one-third of the global slum population. The State needs a plan
we propose the immediate roll-out of the following urgent measures. First, the focus must shift to proactive testing for asymptomatic and symptomatic Covid bearers within the most vulnerable, high population density pockets of our population. There are genuine capacity issues but this would mean that we need mandatory testing of Covid-19 of all slum inhabitants across India. Quarantine the asymptomatic and symptomatic bearers of the virus in slum zones in different isolated locations. Second, we need to ensure that slum residents do not have to crowd around sanitation facilities. Install temporary or mobile toilets. Third, we must deploy tankers to immediately provide clean water to slums so they can maintain good hygiene. Our research shows that 19.15% of inhabitants of slums in Delhi have no clean water sources. About 160 million Indians do not have access to clean water, and definitely not hand sanitisers. And, finally, the only way individuals suffering from mild to severe symptoms from the slums will come forward is if they think the State or the health authorities can do something to help them. We must not make Covid-19 a social stigma.

They also run the risk of going hungry. While the Centre has not announced any substantial financial aid for daily wage earners, the Uttar Pradesh government has said that it will

he government’s response to the threat has so far been pathetic, but this is not because it does not care. So far, all of it has been predicated on the unspoken assumption that the pandemic can be brought under control in three weeks. But this is wishful thinking. India has more than 600,000 villages, and its central and state governments have little or no knowledge of what is happening in most of them
must, therefore, do is to make sure the virus remains confined as far as possible to the 80 cities which are under total lockdown today. This will require a marshalling of all the power and organisational capability of the state. The surest and fastest way will be to call out the army and put as large a part of the paramilitary forces as possible at the disposal of the state governments. Two brigades of the army are
Virus can’t stop us
India has more than 600,000 villages, and its central and state governments have little or no knowledge of what is happening in most of them. The first thing that the Central and all state governments

already deputed to come to the aid of civilian authority in every state. While this provision was intended to help them maintain order in a crisis that had gone beyond civilian control, it can, and should, be used to harness their organisational skills and medical capabilities to cope with the present health emergency. Indeed, why PM Modi did not invoke its aid on March 24th itself is one of the puzzling features of his address to the nation that evening. The armed forces and Central paramilitary forces have the logistical and medical capability to set up and administer relief camps in open areas – such as parks, sports grounds, stadia, and the outskirts of the cities, provide them with food and skilled medical care, and enforce social segregation within them through the period of quarantine. But can they handle even the 9 million out-of- state migrants who face total abandonment today, let alone the 130 million in-state ones?

The CPM-led government proceeded to reopen hundreds of bars that had been shut by the previous regime and allowed the functioning of bars at two-star and three-star hotels.
HiIndia Newsdesk Kerala has decided to suspend the sale of liquor through retail outlets of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) for 21 days in accordance with the three-week national lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday to stem the spread of the coronavirus infection. On Monday, when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced a statewide lockdown, he had ruled out shutting the 330 outlets of BEVCO, which has a
monopoly over the retail sale of alcohol in the state. On being asked about the same, the chief minister had said that a knee-jerk reaction to cut the sale of liquor could have ‘social repercussions’, indicating the flow of illicit liquor into the state. Over the last few days, despite the lockdown and the stringent measures imposed by the state police, there were heavy queues in front of the ‘beverage’ shops raising fears about the spread of infection in such places.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks during a press conference at the State Department in Washington, DC, on March 25, 2020.
HiIndia Newsdesk Foreign ministers from the Group of 7 leading industrialized democracies sparred Wednesday over whether to call out China as the source of the coronavirus pandemic. Meeting by video conference because of the outbreak, the ministers agreed on the need for joint efforts to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus, which causes a disease being called COVID-19. The Boko Haram insurgency, which erupted in northeast Nigeria in 2009, has killed more than 30,000 people and forced about 2 million to flee their homes.
HiIndia Newsdesk Boko Haram militants killed nearly 100 Chadian soldiers and wounded dozens more in what President Idriss Deby described as the deadliest attack ever on the country’s military. The soldiers were ambushed on Monday in the island village of Boma in the swampy Lake Chad zone in the west of the country, where the armies of Chad, Nigeria and Niger have been fighting the Islamist militants for years. “I have taken part in many operations … but never in our history have we lost so many men at one time,” Deby said

At least 15 killed in multi-car Spanish army finds abandoned nursing home crash after curfew in Egypt residents with bodies of Covid-19 patients

freeway, killing 15 people and injuring a dozen in Egypt’s capital late Wednesday, authorities and state media reported. The deadly collision occurred a few hours after Egypt’s night time curfew took effect to curb the spread of the coronavirus. After 7 p.m., public transport shuts down and people are forbidden from the streets unless they have an exemption. Authorities said a string of microbuses, trucks and cars were lined up at a checkpoint on a road from southern Egypt into central Cairo waiting for officers to approve their curfew exemptions.
HiIndia Newsdesk Spanish army troops disinfecting nursing homes have found, to their horror, some residents living in squalor among the infectious bodies of people suspected of dying from the new coronavirus, authorities said Tuesday. Defense Minister Margarita Robles said
the elderly residents were “completely left to fend for themselves, or even dead, in their beds.” She said the discovery over the weekend included several nursing homes but did not name them or say how many bodies were found. A judicial probe into the horrific discovery was opened Tuesday as Spain announced a record one-day jump of nearly 6,600 new coronavirus infections, bringing the overall total to more than 39,600. The number of deaths also leaped by a record 514 to almost 2,700, second only to Italy and China. “This is a tough week,” Dr. Fernando Simon, head of Spain’s health emergency center, told a daily news briefing.

This iconic and historic personality was a great musician who challenged the god of singing Tansen in a duel. Who better than Singh to look and play the part then? And as far as the leading lady is concerned, it could be his lady-love from Gully Boy, Alia Bhatt. Bhatt and Bhansali are already doing Gangubai Kathiawadi and Singh and Bhatt are already on board for Karan Johar’s Takht. So this could be their third film in three years straight. This drama is said to be similar to the 1952 film of the same name.

Don’t forget these skincare tips during self-isolation
Get adequate sleep
This is the best time to catch up on your sleep and keep dark circles at bay. Begin by getting your sleep routine on point; for this you need to understand your sleep cycle. Get your cues here. Trust us, that beauty sleep is needed. When you are sleep deprived, the blood flow to your skin decreases, leading to dull skin. So get that 8-hour deep sleep.
Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise! We cannot stress enough. Despite your skin not being exposed to harsh sunlight, chemicals and pollution, we highly suggest that you stick to your moisturiser. However, stick to a single moisturiser and not go overboard with the application.
Stick to a basic beauty routine
It is time to make the most of your quarantine period and give your skin the attention it needs.
We love the famed 10-step Korean skincare. It surely makes us feel on top of our beauty game, but when you choose to go minimal — with just a basic facewash and moisturiser routine – you will realise that your skin will do better. The lesser the chemicals that

seep into your skin, better your skin’s natural shine.
Scrub once in two weeks
This step often takes a backseat when you are at home simply because you think staying at home means lesser dirt accumulating on the face. But that is not the only reason you need to scrub at least once in two weeks. It is because of the production of dead skin cells and for better pore cleansing so that your skin can breathe thoroughly. But do not use walnut scrubs for your skin. Wondering why? Your answer is here. You can also try your hands on a homemade scrub that is natural and won’t strip your skin of its natural oils.
Hydration is the key
You don’t just hydrate your skin with a hyaluronic acid-based moisturiser but also by drinking enough water to wash out the toxins. The thing about skincare is that the changes do not occur overnight.Moisturise but do not just settle down for that. Get your hydrating levels on point with enough fluids. Go for detox water or homemade juices with citrus fruits.
If you want to accessorise, do it like Sonam Kapoor Sonam Kapoor is a bonafide trendsetter. There are no two ways about it. From decadent lehengas to silk saris and pantsuits, she carries everything off with utter ease. But, it is not just her fashion sense that often receives an appreciative nod, it is also her choice of accessories that make her ensemble stand out. Ahead, we list our favourite style

nobody else’s business! Nothing like oxidised silver jewellery. In the mood to look boho? Go for silver jewellery. Aiming for the grunge look? Oxidised silver jewellery comes to your rescue. Here the Neerja actor sports stunning silver jewellery set while donning a gorgeous sari from the House of Masaba.
Working from home? Don’t forget to watch your weight Somewhere, this work-from-home situation is making people lazy by restricting them to their home space. Find an indoor activity that you Clock in adequate sleep hours Just because you are working from home, enjoy Between work, or when you are done for the day, engage in a physical activity that you genuinely enjoy. It could be yoga to help you get more mindful, or dancing. It is okay if you are not outside, walking to the bus stop; as long as you do something that you enjoy, you are helping your body. You do not have to necessarily focus on the end result; the key is to not make fitness seem like a chore.
does not mean you are at liberty to mess with your sleep cycle. It is important to understand that your physical health depends a lot on how many hours of sleep you clock in every night. If you do not wish to gain unnecessary weight, sleep and wake up on time, like you do on regular days, and be disciplined about it. Especially when you are working from home, you need a designated sleep space and time.

No torch, no torchbearers, no public in Tokyo Olympic torch relay HiIndia Newsdesk The Tokyo Olympic torch relay will start Thursday as planned in northeastern Fukushima prefecture — but with no torch, no torchbearers, no public, and little ceremony. There will be an Olympic flame — that arrived on March 12 from Greece — carried in a lantern and transported by a vehicle along what organizers hope will be empty roadsides, and with curious onlookers practicing social distancing to avoid spreading the coronavirus. National broadcaster NHK has reported the plan, as has Japanese news agency Kyodo. How to disinfect your laptop Coronavirus pull Internet To disinfec t your laptop use an alcoholbased solution that consists of 30 per cent water and follow these steps.
Notably, disinfecting and cleaning are two different things. According to Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while cleaning refers to the “removal” of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces, disinfecting refers to using chemicals to “kill” germs on surfaces. To disinfect your laptop or other gadgets, you should use an alcoholbased solution that consists of 30 per cent water and 70 per cent isopropyl alcohol. Follow the below-mentioned steps to make your laptop germ free: First of all, wear disposable gloves and disconnect the power cable. If the
battery of your laptop is removable, take it out. Don’t forget to remove external devices like pen drive or SD card before you proceed. Dampen a microfiber handkerchief with the alcohol-based disinfectant and carefully clean all external surfaces starting with the screen. Gently wipe in the same direction, top to bottom and do not allow water to drip onto the keyboard or USB ports. After disinfecting, let the laptop dry. Now clean the screen again with a glass cleaner. Dispose of the gloves in a closed bin and wash your hands with soap.
speeds down, forces streaming companies to dial down quality
The coronavirus pandemic is breaking the internet, in every sense of the word. Trends observed by Ookla, known for its SpeedTest app and website, show that across the world fixed broadband and mobile broadband networks are seeing a decline in their speeds, ranging from 10 per cent to 20 per cent in some cases. The reason: more and more people are now in lockdown, working from home, and with children staying back as well, there is increased burden on networks.
As internet speeds slow down world over, streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Hotstar and others have announced they will reduce the burden on the networks by reducing video quality One major factor for this is video, according to Doug Suttles, Co-founder and General Manager at Ookla. “Over half of the internet uses video. Anything else is small in comparison. The issue is that everyone’s working from home and suddenly kids don’t have school and they are home too. There’s a whole lot more video consumption. It’s gotten a lot larger,” Suttles explains, adding that ISPs cannot add capacity overnight to their networks.

pple has updated Siri to provide information to people who are concerned they have COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, CNBC reports. Users can ask the voice assistant questions like “How do I know if I have coronavirus” or “Do I have coronavirus?” and it will offer advice based on their symptoms. Users started noticing the new functionality on Saturday. When you first ask Siri about the virus, the voice assistant will ask whether you are experiencing related symptoms, which include a fever, dry cough, or shortness of breath. People with extreme or life-threatening illnesses are advised to call 911, while anyone who’s not sure is informed of the diseases symptoms and told to selfisolate if they appear. Links to telehealth apps on the App Store are provided for anyone who can’t currently reach a healthcare provider.
amsung’s big monitor push at CES this year was all about curvature. The 1000R measurement of its Odyssey G9 and G7 gaming monitors is intended to more accurately match the human eye’s field of view. I tried out the colossal 49-inch G9 and it did indeed feel like the screen was wrapped around me, even though for some reason Samsung decided to demo it with the 16:9-only Overwatch. But these panels don’t only have to be good for gaming — I could see them making a big difference to productivity, too. The problem is that the Odyssey models look like they were assembled with repurposed components from a starship hyperdrive. That’s probably why Samsung is now expanding its 1000R range to include more austere designs. They also have a fabric texture on the back panel, thin bezels, and a slim metal base.

modern Dell computer, you can now mirror your phone’s screen to your PC and control it using Dell’s Mobile Connect app. Version 3 of the iOS app lets you control your phone using your PC’s keyboard and mouse, and you can also drag and drop photo and video files to transfer them between the two devices. You can also now send SMS messages without needing to keep the iPhone app open in the foreground. The features, which were first announced at CES earlier this year, brings the app’s iPhone functionality more into line with what it already offers on Android, where it has supported these features for a couple of years now. However, the two platforms haven’t quite reached parity. Dell’s website notes that file transfers on iOS are limited to photos and videos, for example, while Android supports music and documents.
he British government is op e n i ng a publ i c consultation into the use of electric scooters in what is likely to be the first step toward legalizing them in the country. The consultation, news of which leaked in January, is an attempt to work out what rules should be placed on scooter riders and manufacturers to make sure they’re safe on the UK’s roads. It’s been announced as part of a broader review into transport in the country, which transport
secretary Grant Shapps called “the biggest review of transport laws in a generation.” Despite their increasing popularity around the world, electric scooters have remained essentially illegal in the UK because of the country’s preexisting laws. These laws categorize electric scooters as motor vehicles, but because scooters can’t pass the same safety and legal regulations as cars they’re illegal to use on public roads. Since they’re motorized, they’re also illegal to use on the sidewalk under the 1835 Highway Act.

Novel Method to Combat California Wildfires Developed by Indian American Reasearchers BY A STAFF WRITER IRVINE, CA- A University of California, Irvineled team, in collaboration with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, has received a grant of $3.6 million to develop models and technologies that can combat the growing scourge of California wildfires. According to Indian American principal investigator Tirtha Banerjee, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at UC Irvine, one of the best tools for preventing wildfires is, interestingly, fire itself. Banerjee’s team is looking at controlled fires, also known as prescribed burns. “In other parts of the United States, and especially in the Southeast, prescribed fire is a primary tool for managing fuels and fire risk, but in California the use and benefits of this optimal approach are far from meeting their full potential,” said Banerjee in a press statement. “Our goal is to apply modeling, data science and risk-management strategies to the problem and help lower the current barriers to widespread application of prescribed fires.” “Prescribed burns are a preemptive way to create community resilience by preventing wildfire events from escalating into large catastrophes that have human, environmental and economic impact,” said Nalini Venkatasubramanian, UCI professor of computer science and a co-principal investigator on the grant, along with UCI computer science professor Sharad Mehrotra. The team also includes researchers from UC Riverside, UC Berkeley, UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and LANL.
(L-R) Nalini Venkatasubramanian, Tirtha Banerjee & Sharad Mehrotra
Active fire suppression, coupled with tree mortality, drought and climate change, has led to year-round fire season in the state, stated the researchers. In worst-case scenarios, the prescribed burns can turn into wildfires. The UC-LANL team has expertise in fire and smoke modeling, and information technologyenabled decision support. Researchers will develop new models and technologies, apply them in the field during planned burns, and transfer knowledge and skills through UC extension programs and student training, UCI noted in the press statement. “Creating accurate situational awareness from the field is essential to orchestrating and managing the safe execution of prescribed fires,” explained Venkatasubramanian. “Our team will design information-centric platforms
that can integrate live sensing data, simulation/ modeling technologies and intelligent analytics. Fire agencies can use these tools to intelligently plan and tune fire management strategies for our communities.” “Wider use of prescribed fires will help make the megafires more manageable and less catastrophic by introducing the so-called ‘good fire’ to the landscape as a management tool,” said Banerjee. “This project will allow us to build and advance the science and engineering basis to develop this tool further and facilitate its usage.” The funding comes from the University of California Laboratory Fees Research Program competition, a contest designed to promote the development of multi-campus projects and collaborations that advance the missions of the national laboratories and the University of California.
Cook County Jail Six Detainees have Tested Positive for Coronavirus BY A STAFF WRITER CHICAGO, IL- - Six detainees at Cook County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19, doubling the count from Tuesday amid calls to release as many detainees as possible to stem the spread of the deadly virus. As of Wednesday morning, three correctional officers and six detainees have tested positive for the virus, according to Cook County sheriff ’s office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. The first two cases of COVID-19 at
the jail were announced Monday at the Southwest Side jail complex that currently
houses about 5,400 detainees. The sheriff ’s office has faced increasing pressure to release detainees who, because of their close proximity, are at high risk of exposure to the virus, activists have said. After a Monday court order, Cook County judges began a case-by-case review of the bond of several hundred detainees who may be eligible for release. The Cook County public defender’s office has called for more than 1,000 detainees to be released, but only about 100 had been released by Tuesday.
$1,440 filing fee for all petitions requesting premium processing that were mailed before March 20 but not yet accepted. This temporary suspension includes petitions filed for the following categories: I-129: E-1, E-2, H-1B, H-2B, H-3, L-1A, L-1B, LZ, O-1, O-2, P-1, P-1S, P-2, P-2S, P-3, P-3S, Q-1, R-1, TN-1 and TN-2. I-140: EB-1, EB-2 and EB-3. This includes new premium processing requests for all H-1B petitions, including H-1B cap-subject petitions for fiscal year 2021, petitions from previous fiscal years, and all H-1B petitions that are exempt from the cap. USCIS previously announced the temporary suspension of premium processing for FY 2021 cap-subject petitions and tentative dates for resumption of premium processing service. This announcement expands upon and supersedes the previous announcement. For current Form I-129 and I-140 processing times, visit the Check Case Processing Times page and the H-1B page on the USCIS website.

FDA takes action to increase U.S. Garage Sale by Indian American Twin to Help Homeless New Yorkers supplies through instructions for PPE and device manufacturers
Rhea & Renee Mendonca
FDA NEWS RELEASE WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration took action to increase U.S. supplies to support the U.S. response to COVID-19 by providing instructions to manufacturers importing personal protective equipment and other devices. One of FDA’s priorities in combating the COVID-19 pandemic is facilitating access to critical personal protective equipment (PPE) and devices. We are engaging with importers and others involved in the import trade community during this pandemic to facilitate the entry of needed products, including PPE, into the U.S. These instructions to importers clarify the types of PPE that can be imported without engaging with FDA. They also include information about the type of information importers can submit to facilitate their entries. We have adjusted our import screening to further expedite imports of legitimate products and are continually monitoring our import systems to prevent and mitigate any potential issues. The FDA established a special email inbox, COVID19FDAIMPORTINQUIRIES@fda. hhs.gov, for industry representatives to quickly
communicate with the agency and address questions or concerns. The agency is providing maximum flexibility to those seeking to bring PPE into the U.S. and are ready and available to engage with importers to minimize disruptions during the importing process. Many companies are stepping up across America to help with manufacturing critical and life-saving medical supplies to strengthen the U.S. response. To support their efforts, we are setting up additional avenues of communication to FDA so they can contact us with any questions or concerns around the clock. The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices. BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY- Indian American twins Renee Mendonca and Rhea Mendonca are filled with gratitude that they have a roof over their head, food on their table and good clothes to wear in these trying times but they are aware that not everyone is as fortunate as them. They recently organized a garage sale to raise funds and collect 1,000 sanitizer kits and food cans for the homeless living on the streets of New York. The compassionate twins recently delivered them to homeless New Yorkers. The twin teens organized a garage sale of their own personal items like clothes, shoes, books, bags, socks, coats, gloves, and shawls in order to raise funds and buy sanitation kits and food cans. The compassionate twins, who are the cofounders of Wings of Hope, whose mission is to educate and empower youth about the dangers of vaping, urged their team members to help them in assembling kits comprising of hand sanitizers, antibacterial
soaps, lotions, reusable masks, food cans and juices for free distribution to the homeless to protect them from the deadly coronavirus. “The homeless people cannot afford to buy basic necessities in order to protect themselves from this deadly virus,” they said. Rhea added: “People are in a panic frenzy and stocking their houses with food, toilet papers leaving the shelves in the stores empty. Many food pantries have closed down in New York and the poor are left with no food while the rich have hoarded their garages and houses with food.” Having set the ball rolling, the duo now hopes that more people will volunteer and come forward to save lives during this tumultuous time. They have started a GoFundMe account to raise funds to expand their program throughout the U.S. They also plan to donate funds to countries like India, Malawi and Haiti. Self-isolating? Here are five lockdown exercises to keep you fit, focused and sane Here’s a short suggested selection of exercises you can do with stuff you have lying around anyway (or using nothing at all). But there’s plenty more that you can do with nothing more than your own bodyweight

and 20 minutes. So do yourself a favour: take that 20 minutes, close down the alarming news, step away from social media, and try and raise some endorphins.

Here’s Why You Should Be Drinking Plenty Of Water During The Coronavirus Lockdown
So here we are, sitting in our homes surrounded by our snacks, and many of them aren’t very healthy. Sugar looms large in the lockdown. To help manage the effects of that sugar, there’s an important habit we should adopt if we’re not already doing it: drink plenty of water. This sounds like old advice, but new research offers a new reason to pay attention, especially under our current circumstances. We know that excess sugar in our diets has a slew of life-lessening consequences tied to disorders falling under the label “metabolic disease,” including obesity,
1. Digest fact, not fiction
Information is being thrown around social media, including false claims, panic-inducing facts, conspiracy theories, and magical remedies. Your first step should be to avoid ingesting all this misinformation. You should obtain information from credible government sources and check information only when needed.
2. Act, don’t react
We all need to take collective actions and preventions to prevent the spread of infections. But we should also ensure that we do not go overboard and create panic situations. Our actions will affect our family members, friends, and colleagues. Ensuring our safety and safety of the people around us is important!
3. Be prepared
If you are taking all the requisite precautions then the chances of you contracting the infection are low. But still, you should be prepared in case you

diabetes, heart disease and inflammation, to name a few. But it’s also possible there’s another, less obvious reason for sugar’s link to decreased lifespans – it leads to the build-up of a toxic biological waste product. “Water is vital for our health, yet its importance is often overlooked in metabolic studies,” added Dr. Cochemé. “We were surprised that flies fed a highsugar diet did not show a reduced lifespan, simply by providing them with an extra source of water to drink. Unexpectedly, we found that these flies still exhibited the typical metabolic defects associated with high dietary sugar.” consuming excess sugar is a bad idea and should be avoided, but this study suggests that when we find ourselves eating too much of it—as we’re likely to do given the circumstances—drinking more water can be an important safeguard against some of its effects, not the least of which is the accumulation of toxic waste products in our bodies. So, keep a thermos full of clean, cold water with you as you move about your home and sip it instead of sugary drinks that contribute to the problem. Plus, water keeps you hydrated and your brain will appreciate that as well.

Let’s prevent covid-19: Eat these 5 foods for breakfast to boost your immunity
1. Citrus fruits
Add citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits to your breakfast as they are a storehouse of nutrition and help boost immunity as well as fight cancer.
2. Papaya
Good for your skin, the papaya contains antioxidants and photo-nutrients that keep your heart healthy. It also helps fight cancer.
3. Green tea
Starting the day without a cup of tea is almost unthinkable for most of us. How about having tea that not just energises you, but also keeps you healthy and your immunity strong
4. Yogurt
Not just rich in protein, yogurt is good for your immune system since it is a great source of Vitamin D. The dairy product is believed to reduce the risk of heart diseases and even help in weight management.
How you can stay calm about rising coronavirus cases
or anyone else in the family contracts infections. You should also be mentally prepared to face it and ensure mental resilience.
4. Take precautions even if you are in self-isolation
Many among us are in self-isolation and maintaining social distance as per guidelines from health authorities. You might be excited to work from home initially, however you may end up bored soon. This may give rise to the urge to go out and socialise
5. Take care of your health
This is a good time to build your immunity and get physically fit. It is advised that you eat healthy and do regular exercise to maintain good health. Similarly, this is the time to build mental health hygiene by incorporating a healthy coping mechanism. You can opt for meditation or other stress-busting techniques.
