“They’re getting close to a deal,” Trump said Thursday evening at a White House press briefing. Trump held a conference call with with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman just before the remarks. “It was a very good call.” Russia and Saudi Arabia agreed in principle on Thursday to slash oil production, a move that could help US producers that were devastated by the two countries’ month-long price war. The decision was reached during a virtual meeting of the OPEC+ group of producers. But the deal is not final; all member countries have not formally agreed to the cuts and Mexico hasn’t signed up yet, according to delegates.
The agencies also made the recommendation based on “the nature of China Telecom’s US operations,” which they said allow Chinese government actors “to engage in malicious cyber activity.

Andrew Cuomo opens his daily coronavirus briefings with the good news: Hospitalization rates are down, the rate of ICU patients fell to a new low and the curve of cases is starting to flatten. Then the bad news, which has gotten increasingly worse over the past three days: a new record number of deaths. New York’s death toll reached 799 on Wednesday, surpassing the 779 who died the day before and the 731 who died April 6, the governor said Thursday. Cuomo then put the unprecedented fatalities in perspective: New York has lost 7,067 people to coronavirus so far. On 9/11, 2,753 people died in New York.
New York’s death toll reached 799 on Wednesday, The growing number of deaths, mainly in New York City and its suburbs, has gotten so drastic that Cuomo said the state is working to bring in more funeral home directors to help. “If you ever have told me as governor
that I would have to take these actions, I couldn’t even contemplate where we are now,” Cuomo said. He added, “9/11 was supposed to be the darkest day in New York for a generation,” and now the coronavirus has swept through New York worse than any state in the nation with the same randomness and “same evil as 9/11.” Cuomo said the increasing number of fatalities is largely the result of people who have been sick succumbing to the virus. At the same time new hospitalizations are lessening, as is the rate of new ICU patients. New York’s hospitalizations due to coronavirus were at 18,279 on Thursday, well below initial projections.

HiIndia Newsdesk A study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to identify the spread and extent of transmission of coronavirus disease has revealed that just two per cent of the patients have tested positive for Covid-19. The study was conducted on 5,911 patients of SARI or Severe Acute Respiratory Infection, caused by the Sars-CoV-2 virus, in 52 districts in 20 states and union territories between February 15 and April 2. The study showed that only 104 people (1.8 per cent) tested positive for Covid-19. Out of this group, 40 per
cent cases did not have any international travel history or contact with laboratory tested confirmed Covid-19 positive case. This study by ICMR has been published in the latest issue of the Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR). SARI surveillance was initiated in the early phase of the Covid-19 outbreak in India. Among the 965 SARI samples tested between February 15 and March 19, only 0.2%were positive for Covid-19. But when the testing strategy was expanded to include all SARI patients, out of 4,946 samples, 2.1% were positive for Sars-CoV-2.
HiIndia Newsdesk The Centre has asked all states and Union Territories to ramp up the
number of samples collected across the country for testing to at least 2.5 lakh by April 14 — when the 21-day national lockdown period ends. Speaking to The Indian Express, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajeev Arora said the target was conveyed by the Union Health Ministry in a video-conference with Health Secretaries of all states and UTs Wednesday. “We were told that 1 lakh samples have been collected in India till date, and by April 14 we have to take it up to 2.5 lakh samples,” he said.

While Maharashtra is still at the top with 1,364 cases and 97 deaths, Tamil Nadu has reported 834 cases and eight deaths followed by 720 cases in New Delhi, which has reported 12 casualties so far.

HiIndia Newsdesk Major oil producers except Mexico agreed to cut output in May and June by 10 million barrels per day, OPEC said Friday, after marathon talks to counter a collapse in prices. T he ag re e me nt , w h i ch re du c e s production to eight million bpd from July to December, depends on Mexico’s consent for it to take effect, the oil cartel said after a videoconference. The virtual meeting of OPEC countries and their OPEC+ allies including Russia,
as well as other key non-members, began just after 1440 GMT on Thursday. It was seen as the best chance of providing support to prices, which have been wallowing near two-decade lows due to the coronavirus pandemic and a Saudi-Russian price war. Talks dragged on into the small hours of Friday. Bloomberg News reported that the main sticking point was the refusal of Mexico to sign up to its share of cuts under the deal, which would have been 400,000 barrels per day.
Pope Francis on Holy Thursday hailed priests and medical staff who tend to the needs of COVID-19 patients as “the saints next door”. Francis celebrated the Holy Week evening Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, which was kept off-limits to the public because of restrictions aimed at containing the spread of the new coronavirus. The same precautions forced the pope to forego a symbolic ritual traditionally observed on the Thursday before Easter washing the feet of others in a sign of humility. Last year, he performed the ritual washing on the feet of 12 inmates at a prison near Rome. The ritual re-enacts Jesus’ washing the feet of his 12 Apostles at their last supper before he was crucified. Looking weary and with a subdued voice, Francis also expressed dismay that priests have been insulted or wrongly slandered because of the scandals in the Catholic Church involving pedophile priests. “Sometimes they can’t even go walk in the street because ugly things are said to them, in reference to the drama we are living through, priests who did ugly things,” Francis said.

The petition, filed by Supreme Court advocate Madhurima Mridul, whose daughter is one among many students stuck in the U.K., said India is “probably the only country that has imposed an embargo on the return of its own citizens, and where other countries are making all possible efforts to repatriate their citizens stranded in various countries, India with its travel bans has made it impossible for its own citizens to come back home.” The petition, represented by advocates Sunil Fernandes, Asthma Sharma and Nupur Kumar, said countries with far greater incidence of mortality like China, Spain, Italy, Iran, South Korea and the United States had not imposed any embargo on the return of their nationals from foreign shores.

Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Deputy Secretary Shrines, Imran Gondal said on Monday that a meeting of the ETPB and the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbadhank Committee (PSGPC) unanimously decided that there would be no Baisakhi celebrations at the shrine in Hassanabdal city this year and the scheduled visits of Sikh pilgrims has been cancelled, reports Dawn news.

We are committed to following the guidelines set by the federal government to ensure a safe environment for our Sikh pilgrim guests and we would not risk their health amid the global coronavirus outbreak,” Dawn news quoted Gondal as saying. He said Pakistan gave all Sikh representative bodies the green light in November 2019 that Pakistan would issue 3,000 visas to Indian pilgrims who wanted to participate in the Baisakhi festival, as well as limitless visas for pilgrims from other parts of the world. The ETPB had also issued a schedule for Indian pilgrims that was shared with the Indian government.

For the sake of your immunity, please don’t let go of your fitness regimen. Even in this lockdown When everyone is talking about work from home workout sessions then why are you backing out? Please remember, that fitness is the key to better immunity.

veryone on social media is making the most of this lockdown by posting their videos on how they are staying fit at home. From celebrities, renowned fitness trainers, yoga experts to commoners – everyone is trying their hands on whatever they can do to keep themselves fit during this lockdown. And in case you are still counting on the lockdown to open to regain your fitness stride then buck up people as depending so much on sports clubs is not the right way to go. Being in isolation without access to gyms and sports clubs should not mean people stop exercising, say researchers. They add that daily exercise plays an important role in helping to maintain a healthy immune system. A new analysis, published in the journal Exercise Immunology Review, highlights the power of regular, daily exercise on our immune system and the importance of people continuing to work-out even in lockdown.
Daily exercise means better immunity

They reported in a review article that the theory was not well supported by scientific evidence, summarising that there is limited reliable evidence that exercise suppresses immunity, concluding instead that exercise is beneficial for immune function.
Better immunity means lesser chances of catching infection
A good night’s sleep can actually make you lose weight
During this introspection, did it occur to you even once that your sleeping habits could be a factor hindering your progress? It didn’t, we bet. Your non-seriousness towards sleep is what’s probably hampering your weight-loss journey. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-9 hours of sleep every night for adults. Anything less than that can lead to weight gain.
Ayurvedic drinks for better health Ginger juice or tea
Widely used as a digestive aid in Ayurveda, ginger is an ingredient that you will find in every Indian kitchen. While its flavour is delightful in itself, the root is also packed with health benefits. Most of its medicinal properties are linked to gingerol–ginger’s main bioactive compound. Ginger juice or tea is easy enough to prepare with fresh ginger or even dried ginger powder. It is especially helpful for fitness enthusiasts as studies show that ginger may reduce exercise-induced muscle pain, allowing for faster recovery and gains.

Going Vegan?
1. Poor sleep can make you hog food like a beast
Is dozing off the one-stop solution to your weightloss woes? Here’s all you need to know about it.
Now, there are two ways to look at this situation. Firstly, as per a 2016 study published in the journal Sleep, lack of sleep can put the body under stress and increase the levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. This, in turn, can boost the production of ghrelin, the hunger hormone in the body and increase your appetite. Secondly, sleep deprivation can also make your brain more sensitive to food stimuli according to a study published in the American Journal of Nutrition, thereby making it difficult for you to control food cravings.
2. God forbid, it can cause diabetes too According to a study published in the journal Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics, poor sleep can cause insulin resistance. Basically, the insulin hormone is responsible for carrying sugar from your blood to various organs in order to provide energy to them to perform their functions. In case of insulin resistance though, the sugar remains in the bloodstream, as a result of which, the blood sugar levels increase and the body produces more insulin. While the former can lead to type-2 diabetes, the latter can lead to increased hunger and encourage the cells to store more energy as fat.
3. Your metabolism may not be spared either The wrath of inadequate sleep spares none and your metabolism is no exception to the rule. Nope, not even your resting metabolism, which basically dictates the number of calories you burn while resting and supporting basic bodily functions such as breathing, circulating blood, organ functions, and basic neurological functions.
It can reduce your risk of cancer
In 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) named red meat a “group 2 carcinogen.” This implies it becoming a probable cause for cancer in humans. The World Health Organisation has placed processed meat in the group 1 category, which means it is carcinogenic to humans.
The risk of diabetes reduces
Multiple types of research have concluded that a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of developing diabetes or even reverse the disease completely.
Being vegan can keep you in good spirits
In a study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), it looked at the eating patterns and moods of 3,486 people over a five-year period. The results showcased that the participants who consumed whole,

H
e’s the man behind timeless shows such as Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, both of which have started re-airing now on popular demand in this lockdown. Actor-producer JD Majethia is naturally happy that his shows find acceptance even today. “I had been receiving many messages on social media to bring back these shows again, and I agreed. I spoke to the channel about this, and they said even they were thinking the same! And it’s not just about my two shows coming back, but how they are contributing to people’s lives,” says the 51-year-old. In these tough times, where everyone is locked up inside their houses till April 14, though for their own good, Majethia feels the comedy quotient of these two shows will ‘lift people’s spirits’. “Everyone doesn’t have access to OTT platforms, so being aired on channels and getting noticed isn’t difficult. Also, since the shows are being aired in the morning, you can start your day with laughter. It’s laughter therapy. I always saw our police and medical people contributing to make this situation better, and questioned myself ‘Why am I not being able to do something?’

humi Pednekar has been supporting Abhyudaya Ashram, a home and school for abandoned, socially backward and underprivileged children, including girls rescued from prostitution for nearly 3 years now. The Morena-based school was established in 1992 to fight the prostitution of girls in the valley and has expanded into housing boys too. The school looks to open up job opportunities for the children thus empowering them and also providing a better future to them. Bhumi says, “The terms social distancing and self-isolation needs to be hammered into the minds of every individual of this vast country because such things are a privilege in a densely populated nation like ours. I decided that I will speak to all the children and the faculty and authorities of the institute through video calling facilities to discuss about COVID-19 and the threat it poses to every one of us.” The actress adds, “I have been speaking to each and every member of the ashram and telling them about the do’s and don’ts at this time of crisis. I intend to keep as many of my near and dear ones safe and protected and I’m hoping they will spread this message within their communities. The risk is high currently and we all have to do our bit to battle coronavirus and stop it from spreading further.”

EPFL develops ‘SmartBra’ for Skype introduces ‘Meet Now’ early detection of cancer cells for signup-free video calls
E
arly detection of cancer is imperative to its successful treatment and researchers at the Ecole Polytechnique federale de Lausanne (EPFL) have developed a novel technology to help detect the tumour at its earliest stages. EPFL students teamed up with a startup IcosaMed to develop a SmartBra using smart-clothing technology. As the official EPFL website notes, the SmartBra uses a non-invasive, painless method based on frequent
ultrasound monitoring for detection. The smart-clothing emits ultrasound waves to perform echography scans for potentially cancerous cells. The piezoelectric material makes the clothing comfortable to wear. If the SmartBra detects a suspicious mass of cells, it will alert the wearer. The researchers plan to bring SmartBra to women in 2021. It will be initially sold to those diagnosed with cancer for routine monitoring, followed by those women who are predisposed to cancer
As video conferencing becomes popular in the times of social distancing, Skype introduced a new feature that allows one to make calls without having to sign up or download. Called Meet Now, the feature lets you set up a collaboration space and invite Skype as well as non-Skype contacts for video calls. As the official website explains, you can start a meeting by generating the unique link and sharing it with others to begin a video or audio call. For non-Skype members who do not have the app installed on their device, the meeting will open in the Skype for the Web client. Users can choose to record calls which will be available for later review for up to 30 days

community news “Ekal Vidyalaya” Launches Ambitious Initiative Against ‘Coronavirus’ 2
FRIDAY,10 APRIL, 2020
BY A STAFF WRITER When everywhere ‘Coronavirus’ outbreak is being associated only with the urban area populous, “Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation” has quietly launched an ambitious initiative against it in rural & tribal areas across India. As for networking and connectivity in such areas, “Ekal” (as it is popularly known) is in very unique position with its presence in over 103,000 such remote hamlets. As the shortage of Masks and Sanitizers became apparent in early March, Ekal tailoring training Ctrs banded together and started stitching facemasks and producing hand sanitizers for Ekal Volunteers, district health authorities and law enforcement personnel. It had been producing 10,000 masks and 1,000 liters of Hand-sanitizers or disinfecting solutions per day as of Marchend and supplying them ‘free-of-cost’ to their authorities. Masks and Sanitizers are also being distributed free-of-cost to the poor families. It costs Ekal Rs. 20 each to make it and to distribute it. According to Bajrang Lal Bagra, CEO of “Ekal Abhiyan” (umbrella organization of all Ekal satellite endeavors), beginning this month – April - Ekal is launching most ambitious plan to triple its ‘tailoring’ capacity in 28 centers to produce 1 Million cotton Masks by the end of April (2020). These 2-ply masks are being made to WHO’s stringent specifications and Ekal plans to keep on
producing them as long as there is need. As part of empowerment and to reduce the dependency on ‘outside food’, Ekal-Villages, have actively started harvesting ‘Poshan Vatikas’ (Nutritional sustaining food items) for the people in their own vicinity on cooperative basis. Keeping up with the governmental directive, although all Ekal field activities were suspended on March 14, according to ‘Lalan Kumar Sharma’, Central co-coordinator of “Ekal Abhiyan”, the awareness campaign against deadly Virus is in motion with full throttle speed with the blessings of the local concerned authorities. Currently, ‘Arogya Sahayikas’ (Health Assistant) and Ekal teachers are, not only, emphasizing critical need for personal hygiene
and clean environment in villages, but also, keeping a written tab on cases related to fever, cough and shortness of breath. Social-distancing and repeatedly washing hands with soap is being promoted as part of daily routine. Supporting the efforts of ‘Gram-Panchayats’ (village administrative admin), identifying and quantifying urban visitors or returning villagers from such areas is being diligently carried out. Harish Karat of ‘EkalGlobal’ says, “as a reminder for the precautionary habits that one must adopt to arrest the spread of ‘Coronavirus’, the walls in lot of village-dwellings are being painted with healthcare slogans”. What is interesting is that villagers have enthusiastically endorsed this campaign as one of the safeguards in the current crisis. Ekal volunteers residing in Indian urban
areas are helping older, poor people during these clampdown days are providing food or sustenance items wherever possible. For example, in ‘Guwahati’ area in two days, ‘Vanbandhu Parishad’ (an allied Ekal organization) delivered food items to 650 families. Ekal-USA providing assistance to the needy in variety of ways - such as food, maskmaking, grocery-items and medical help etc. Ekal volunteers in USA are assisting food-banks, soupkitchen and delivery of groceries to the elderly. According to Suresh Iyer, President of Ekal-USA, “In the U.S., Ekal has partnered with other non-profit organizations, including ‘Sewa International’, in providing community service at this hour of immense need. It’s times such as these we are seeing the best of humanity and I am confident that we will get through this difficult time soon and come out feeling even stronger”. Though, all the annual fund-raising concerts have been cancelled currently for foreseeable future, ‘Ekal Vidyalaya’ is appealing its loyal Donors and well-wishers who have been consistently helping it to keep supporting its multiple endeavors (projects) in rural areas, including its ambitious initiative to fight ‘Coronavirus’. Kindly Donate at https://www.ekal.org/us/donate and be an active member of defense against the virus in the current crisis. Ekal serves the humanity irrespective of caste, creed, and religion

America BY A STAFF WRITER Responding to President Donald Trump’s call for National Day of Prayer March 15, the Hindu Mandir Executives Conference, a body representing 400-plus Hindu temples, institutions, meditation and yoga groups in North America, organized havans and prayers across North America. The effort, stated a press release, was aimed to address growing mental health and anxiety concerns arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. the individuals (virtual satsang).”
She added: “Devotees were encouraged to pray from home when the havan was being performed at their respective temples by the priests. Facebook live or video recording were enabled by the temple management for the devotees to participate remotely in the prayer proceedings.” Thousands of people across North America, said the press release, joined the prayers and many more are planning to join in the coming weeks. The World Hindu Council of America, in partnership with the Hindu Students Council, has allocated funds for helping international students in need of emergency resources. As more funds are being raised, $5,000 have been immediately released
for donations to the federal government institutions that are providing relief to vulnerable communities, as per the press release. Ajay Shah, executive vice president of the World Hindu Council of America), noted that “Temples, gurudwaras and other dharmic institutions and communities will continue to pray for global health.” Pointing to a recent health guideline report published by Harvard Medical School, Anil Sharma, a community organizer who was a part of this initiative, said: “Aasana, Dhyana and Praanayama, could go a long way in mitigating the isolation anxiety that is gripping communities across the United States.”
Man Found Guilty of Home Invasion Robberies Against Indian American Homes BY A STAFF WRITER DETROIT, MI-The U.S. Department of Justice last month announced that a federal jury in Detroit, Michigan, found a Colombian man guilty of all charges in a nine-count indictment charging him with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act conspiracy and other violent crimes. Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and Special Agent in Charge Steven M. D’Antuono of the FBI’s Detroit Field Office said in a news release that Juan Olaya, 39, of Buenaventura, Colombia, was a leader of an armed robbery crew that traveled the United States committing armed home invasions. Evidence at trial established that the defendant and his crew exclusively targeted families of Indian and Asian descent for their
crimes, the release said. Following a two-week trial, Olaya was convicted of one count of RICO conspiracy; four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering; and four counts of use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
According to evidence presented at trial, Olaya and his robbery crew committed a string of home invasions in Georgia, New York, Michigan and Texas in 2014. The organizer of the crew, Chaka Castro, ran the enterprise from 2011 through 2014, it said. Castro generated lists of robbery targets in various states around the county, specifically families of Asian and Indian ancestry, and assigned crews to carry out the armed robberies of these families within their homes. Olaya was the road boss of one such crew, who recruited other members and assigned roles to those members. Olaya and crew members traveled to certain locations, conducted surveillance and executed the robberies, the DoJ release noted. The crew utilized a particular modus operandi in each of the robberies. Members
disguised their appearance with clothing and bandanas so that victims would have difficulty identifying them, it said. They openly carried and brandished firearms to gain control of the victims and then immediately corralled the victims, including children, into one location in the home. At least one crew member then restrained the victims using duct tape and threats of violence, as another ransacked the home in search of cash, jewelry and electronics to steal, it said. The crew organized their trips to involve multiple home invasion robberies over a series of days. Sentencing is scheduled for July 23. before U.S. District Court Judge Laurie J. Michelson of the Eastern District of Michigan, who presided over the trial.

Parnika Saxena
Its use of nanotechnology allows for the
passing of oxygen through the mask (making it breathable), yet stops COVID-19 particles from passing through; It is transparent, making it ideal for everyday use by not only healthcare workers, but also the common public; and It is lightweight, strong, flexible, and stretchable, making it easy to fit to face as a mask. Saxena’s parents Tanu Shrivastav and Anurag Saxena moved from India a couple of years before she was born. Her father is a computer engineer and her mother a renowned classical dance teacher, and her interests, apart from nanotechnology, align with their interests, she noted. In fact, she takes several computer science courses in school, including Artificial Intelligence; and she learns Kathak dance from her mother at the India International School in Virginia.

In an effort to reduce the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, many nations have taken the unprecedented measure of having people stay at home as a way of forcing social distancing. The distancing has helped save lives as it reduces fevers, Kinsa Health chief executive and founder Inder Singh said, according to multiple reports. San Francisco, Calif.-based Kinsa is a health tech startup that monitors temperatures of people in the U.S. through its inter-connected digital thermometer. More than 250 million Americans are said to be staying indoors in view of the fast spreading coronavirus, which so far has infected more than 160,000 Americans and taken the lives of over 3,000 people, reports have said. Singh, in multiple interviews to various news outlets, has said that the real time data of the U.S. have revealed that social distancing has helped reduce fever. Consistent high temperature is one of
Inder Singh
the key aspects of a patient infected by COVID-19. “When you shut down schools and businesses, you are breaking the chain of infections,” Singh told . “The data are showing it is working and the clusters of fever we were seeing are levelling off and diminishing within days.” The company has now devised a way to track the spread of the coronavirus pandemic by focusing on atypical fevers associated with COVID-19. The company is able to generate a U.S. Health Weather Map that tracks these atypical fever trends around the country.
23
As per report, fevers were down in threequarters of the country from their peak levels on March 17. In hard-hit New York City, Kinsa data show that the number of fevers is trending downward, which correlates with the good news that the COVID-19 hospitalization doubling rate in that city has dropped from two days to four days. The decline in reported fevers correlates strongly with the implementation of social distancing measures such as shutting down schools, along with bars and restaurants. The places that locked down earlier are the areas where the number of fevers began falling first. Kinsa’s report is based on the fever readings that it downloads from more than one million digital thermometers in use around the U.S., according to media reports. Data from the health departments of New York State and Washington State have buttressed the finding of Kinsa Health, making it clear that social distancing is saving lives. More than 800,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported across more than 175 countries and territories with nearly 40,000 deaths reported so far. America has the highest number of cases of reported infections, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

New York Based Four Indian American Die of Coronavirus
Shawn Abraham, 21
BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK,NY- Four Indian Americans have died of coronavirus-related illnesses in the New York area, including a young adult and an elderly woman. The Kerala American community offered tributes to Shawn Abraham, 21, who lived with his family in New York City until his death on April 5. Abraham is the son of Saji Abraham, the founding leader of the Federation of Malayalee Associations of Americas. “You will live in my heart and soul forever,” Solly Abraham, Shawn’s mother, posted on her Facebook page. Shawn leaves behind two sisters, Shana and Sneha. The family hails from Tiruvula. The Federation of Kerala Associations in North America confirmed the deaths of three other Indian Americans who died of COVID-19 related illnesses in or near New York: Aleyamma Kuriakose, 65; Thankachan Enchenattu, 51; and Abraham Samuel, 45. The organization, an umbrella organization for several Malayalee organizations in the U.S., expressed profound sadness over the deaths in a statement. Additional information about the three victims was not immediately available. As of April 6, 10,522 people in the U.S. have died of COVID-19 related illnesses. New York state has thus far borne the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. — 4,758 people have died in the state. More than 131,000 people in New York have been infected with COVID-19. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has said the week of April 6-12 will be the worst week nationwide for the number of new infections. The Consulate General of India in New York said that it is in touch with the families of the deceased, as reported by PTI. In an online advisory, the Consulate acknowledged that there is yet no cure, but encouraged Indian Americans to practice Ayurveda to boost immunity by drinking warm water, practicing yoga and pranayama for at least 30 minutes per day, and drinking turmeric in hot milk twice a day. The Consulate advisory also encouraged Indian Americans to take chyavanprash and drink herbal tea. Medical experts have encouraged people to take folk remedies with a grain of salt, noting there is no known cure for the rapidlyspreading disease. The Centers for Disease Control says the most effective way to prevent infection is via social distancing. The Trump Administration has reversed its stance on face masks, saying some sort of face cover should be used when out of the home. Several sites online demonstrate how to make a cloth-based mask. Meanwhile, PTI reported April 6 that Ravi Batra, a New York-based Indian American lawyer, and his wife Ranju and daughter Angela recently recovered from COVID-19.

elebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor was live on Facebook page to share his self-isolation experience. He offered quick and easy tips on how to build immunity du r i ng t he ongoi ng l o ckd ow n .
“Nutrition is a large part of health. If we eat healthy, we stay healthy,” said the 55-year-old. The Indian kitchen is full of health. The box of spices that we have in our kitchen is equivalent to a medicine box and that is why in ancient times, doctors and cooks had the same respect and importance.Healthy and balanced eating has always been of importance but the focus has increased now. One of the best things is haldi/turmeric. Haldi has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Add a bit of it in everything you make. You can have a glass of hot water with haldi in it, you can add tulsi and ginger too. These days, people are talking a lot about dalgona coffee, I will suggest you whisk turmeric milk and have it, nothing’s better than that. For Vitamin C, eat citrus fruits, capsicum, Indian gooseberry and broccoli, but with focussed consumption. You can also take turmeric and jaggery, and make little tablets of sorts. Whenever you have a sore throat, have one of those tablets and you will be fine. Also, take care of your sleep pattern. Sleep is important to boost your immunity.

hile most of us are working from home, we are reading extensively on how we can stay productive in these times. A great chunk of work productivity depends on how we are dressed every day when we sit down for work. It is but obvious that the vast majority would be preferring pajamas over pants. And while comfort is key, you need to understand that what you wear every day can affect your output and general mood. So, if you are wondering what is the point of making an effort when all you have to do is get up and find a place at the dining table — or sometimes on the bed — here is what you need to know. Working from home is a challenge, because no matter how many days have passed, the brain will always find it difficult to stay focused when you are in the comfort of your house. There could be many different distractions, pressing household chores that may need your immediate attention. And while you must not entirely ignore them, know that they may, somewhere, affect your daily output. When you dress up a certain way, however, you signal your brain to get more professional. You are now aware that your work hours have begun. Think of it as little
Given that most of our daily activities, including eating habits and exercise routines, have taken a hit owing to the lockdown, digestive issues like constipation may be troubling you. But before popping a pill for relief, you can try Vajrasana, also known as the Diamond Pose or Thunderbolt which help aid the digestion process. The asana also helps relieve constipation that usually happens due to reduced physical activity and reduced intake of dietary fibre among other reasons. Some common mistakes that could be causing constipation: — If you drink a lot of coffee and tea. — If you do not follow a disciplined schedule to sleep and wake up. — If you put too much pressure while on the toilet seat.
How to do Vajrasana
*Bend your knees. Roll your calf muscles out. Point your toes behind. Sit. Release the buttocks in between the heels. Sit for 4-5 minutes in this pose. *If you have trouble sitting in this posture, you can alternatively use a block to sit on. *If you have been constipated for more than a week, try this Vajrasana variation using a blanket. -Get a blanket, fold it and then roll it. -Put it on your mid-calf muscles and release yourself down. -Ensure your hips are down. Press the hamstrings against the blanket. Diwekar recommended that one should do Vajrasana at least 4-5 times a day for at least 4-5 minutes. Maintaining a straight posture and upright spine can do the trick

onam Kapoor is a bonafide trendsetter. Period. From saris and tulle gowns to bright pantsuits, the actor aces everything effortlessly. However, that is not the only thing she excels at; her make-up looks are equally worth mentioning. From smokey blue eyes to graphic eyeliners, the Veere Di Wedding actor is often seen experimenting with her looks. So scroll down and try these eye makeup ideas if you feel like trying out a new look at home, or just enjoy looking at them! Packing a punch with her classic black winged eyeliner, the actor dazzled up the look with little white rhinestones. It is easy to recreate and perfect for a party. Bookmark it for your very first party post the lockdown!
Can clothes affect work output and productivity? Working from home is a challenge, because no matter how many days have passed, the brain will always find it difficult to stay focused when you are in the comfort of your house.
cues that you give to your brain on when to start and when and how to finish. You have to understand that even though you are at home, you are working and getting paid for it. So, it would be ideal to get more disciplined and more professional in your approach. Dressing up can potentially change your approach, and also subtly tell your family members, flatmates and/or friends that you are ready for the day. If you are a fan of makeup, wear something light, just so you can feel good and optimistic about the day. This will automatically make you feel more productive. Without being too elaborate, here’s what you can wear every day: * A pair of pants, not pajamas, that can give the illusion that you are getting ready to commute to work. * A different footwear, not your usual home slippers. * A crisp shirt (for men), or a well-ironed kurta (for women), especially when there is a work meeting. * Some accessories — bracelets, earrings, anything that can put you in a better mood. * A tee shirt that is not too formal, but not too casual either. Basically anything except for the one that you have woken up in.
