WASHINGTON: The US House Oversight Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for not complying with subpoenas for documents relating to the 2020 census.

The panel on Wednesday, by a 24-15 vote, recommended that the full House of Representatives find Barr and Ross in contempt, Xinhua reported.

S President Donald Trump has again taken aim at India’s tariffs on Harley Davidson motorcycles ahead of his meeting with his “very good friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that they were working on reducing them.

The 50 per cent duty on Harley Davidson bikes imported into India is “unacceptable”, Trump said when he phoned into a popular business TV programme.

He said that he had spoken to Modi about the 100 per cent tariff that India had been charging on the bike and “he reduced it by 50 per cent with one phone call. I said it’s still unacceptable because it is 50 per cent versus nothing. It’s still unacceptable. And they’re working on it”.

The Harley Davidsons are more symbolic than a serious tariff issue as facts around the mobikes are complicated. Most of the Harley Davidsons sold in India are lowpowered models made in Gurugram and are not charged duties.

Many of the more powerful models are imported as kits with only a 15 per cent tariff and assembled in India.

US to send more troops to Poland WASHINGTON: The White House has announced that the US would deploy 1,000 additional troops to Poland, a move that might raise security concerns from Russia.

“The US and Poland have agreed on a framework to deploy an additional 1,000 troops to Poland,” the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump announced earlier on Wednesday during a joint press conference with his visiting Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda that the infrastructure for the 1,000 American troops would be constructed by the Polish government, “at no cost to the US”.

Duda said that the increased US military presence in Poland is necessary to defend against Russia and solidify Poland's ties to the West.

Poland, which joined the NATO in 1999, currently hosts around 4,500 US troops. It has been lobbying for a permanent American military base on Polish soil, even offering to pay $2 billion in costs.

mbarking on its second voyage to the moon on July 15, an Indian spacecraft and rover would land near the lunar south pole by September 6 or 7, a top official said on Wednesday.

“We will launch our second moon mission (Chandrayaan-2) on July 15 at 02:15 a.m., to land by September 6 or7 near the lunar south pole, where no one went so far, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman K. Sivan told reporters here.

The 3.8-tonne complex mission will have an orbiter with 8 scientific experiments, a lander with three experiments, a rover with two experiments and one passive experiment from the US space agency NASA. “The orbiter with lander and rover will be launched onboard our advanced heavy rocket (GSLV Mark

to conduct various experiments on its orbit, on its surface, atmosphere and beneath.

The cost of Chandrayaan-2 mission is Rs 978 crore, including Rs 603 crore for the orbiter, lander, rover, navigation and ground support network and Rs 375 crore for the heavy rocket — Geo-stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle with an indigenous cryogenic engine.

ISRO has named the lander “Vikram”, after India’s space pioneer Vikram Sarabhai (1919-1971) and rover ‘Pragyan’, which in Sanskrit means wisdom.

“The rocket will place the orbiter in the geo-transfer orbit for its passage to the lunar orbit, covering 385,000km from earth to moon in 50 days for the lander to have a soft landing near its south pole,” said Sivan.

The lander will separate from the orbiter through manoeuver, when it is at 150km periloon (nearest the

moon’s surface) and 18,000 apoloon (farthest from lunar surface) and land on the moon in 4 days after it (orbiter) enters the lunar orbit at 100km from its surface and descends slowly up to 30km for soft landing.

“The six-wheel rover will roll out of it (lander) in 4 hours after landing at a pre-determined site which is free from rocks and is between craters. It will roll 1cm per second and speed up to cover 500 meters.

The experiments (payloads) will be on the mineralogical and elemental studies of the lunar surface.

Interestingly, the lander as well as the rover will have the Indian national flag (Tricolour) painted on them. Ashoka Chakra will be imprinted on the rover’s wheels.

“The lander and rover will conduct experiments on one lunar day which is equivalent to 14 days on the earth,” Sivan pointed out.

5 CRPF troopers, 1 militant killed in Anantnag attack SRINAGAR: Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and one militant were killed while four others, including one civilian and three security men, were injured following a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Among the slain CRPF troopers, two were of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) rank.

Police sources said that three masked militants came out of a car in KP Road in Anantnag town and opened fire on a security party on Wednesday afternoon. Earlier, the sources had said that only two militants were involved in the attack.

“The militants were engaged in a sustained gunfight. While one of the militants was killed during the

encounter, five CRPF jawans also lost their lives during the operation.

“Four others, including one civilian woman, one local Station House Officer (SHO) and two CRPF personnel, were injured in the gunfight,” police sources said.

As per CRPF sources, at least one of the militants involved in the attack was on a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) mission because he did not escape the spot while his other two accomplices managed to flee.

“The injured SHO has been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment while the other injured have been admitted to a local hospital,” police sources said.

rime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the first meeting of new Council of Ministers and outlined the roadmap and action plan of his government for the next five years.

Ahead of the Council of Ministers meeting, the Prime Minister met his Cabinet and took several decisions including triple talaq Bill and others.

This was first-ever meeting of the new Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister. Sources said he spelled out his priorities for Mission 2022 and asked them to present a report card every three months.

Sources said the Prime Minister told his colleagues that he would review the task done by them and would monitor the ‘high priority’ schemes being implemented by the various ministries.

The Prime Minister was more concerned about the schemes and projects such as ‘housing for all’ related with Mission 2022, the year when the country celebrates its 75th year of Independence, sources said.

He spelled out his priorities related to ministries dealing with the social sector. For Rural Development and the newly-constituted Jal Shakti Ministry, Modi outlined specific tasks, the sources said.

Cabinet approves bill against triple talaq, to replace ordinance NEW DELHI: The government will introduce a Bill in the coming session of Parliament against triple talaq to make it an offense punishable with imprisonment of up to three years and fine.

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019.

The Bill will replace the ordinance promulgated in February this year.

One man, many crafts: An era ends with Girish Karnad Girish Karnad wore multiple hats as a playwright, screenwriter, director and actor, all so versatile IANS, NEW DELHI

F

or the 1980s’ kids who tasted TV time with ‘Malgudi Days’, Girish Karnads portrayal as Swamis stern father, has remained an indelible memory. Equally unfading for many generations are his plays with historical and mythical elements, films reflecting the countrys social sentiment, and political activism -- all of which reflected a fearlessness and candour so rare in Indian showbiz.

An expressive conversationalist and liberal who believed in the true spirit of secularism, he was a colossus in India’s cultural landscape.

“A man must commit a crime at least once in his life-time. Only then will his virtue be recognized,” Karnad has been famously quoted by his fans as well as his detractors.

He wore multiple hats as a playwright, screenwriter, director and actor, all so versatile, and his off-

screen persona, as the film and theatre fraternity describes, was extremely humble, helpful, caring, encouraging and inspirational.

Rich tributes came in from top political leaders, theatre veterans and film celebrities across the nation on Monday as Karnad breathed his last in Bengaluru.

A Jnanpith winner and a recipient of the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, apart from multiple National Film Awards and a Sahitya Akademi honour, Karnad was born on May 19, 1938 in Matheran. He graduated from the Karnatak University, and was a Rhodes Scholar in the University of Oxford, where he studied philosophy, politics and economics.

Yayati in 1961 marked his first tryst with theatre, and established his ability to create dramatic experiences.

His work in the theatre world was seeped in historical and cultural stories, but told with a touch modernism, which made them conducive for translations in Eng-

lish and other languages that took them to a wider audience.

He went on to the historical Tughlaq, followed by Agni Mattu Male, Hayavadana, Nagamandala and Taledanda, emerging as one of Kannada literature’s foremost playwrights.

Tughlaq is one of the gems, which theatre aficionados of the 1970s, would remember for being showcased in the precincts of Old Fort in the capital city. The play, directed by Ebrahim Alkazi —the doyen of Indian theatre — got embedded with the city’s cultural life.

As for his films, the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) rightly captured, how Karnad’s movies brought “ruralism, history and mythical pathos with contemporary themes”. But in a career spanning six decades, he also featured in a stream of commercial potboilers like Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai in recent times.

acted in — on caste system, Karnad had set the tone of his creative expression — bold and fearless, and he continued that streak in a stream of Kannada, Hindi and Marathi films.

He also featured in Hindi movies Manthan, Nishant, Pukar, Iqbal’, Dor and Ek Tha Tiger.

The film fraternity at large was generous in praising not just his talent but his benevolence too.

Shekhar Suman recounted how Karnad had given him a chance to play the lead in the erotic drama Utsav, while Tisca Chopra shared how she got Karnad’s help in getting rented accommodation when

she first moved to Mumbai.

Karnad also held important positions in top institutes. He served as director of the state-run Film and Television Institute of India (1974-1975) at Pune and was Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi and National Academy of the Performing Arts (1988-93).

Actor Satish Shah remembers that Karnad was the one responsible for choosing him, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri for the FTII acting course in 1974 in the days of “conventional chocolate faces”.

“Owe him our careers,” actor Satish Shah tweeted.

The three basics of the ‘issue’ in Kashmir were always clear - that the state of Jammu & Kashmir was an integral part of India, that the Valley-centric polity could not disregard the reality that the state was a composite territory housing multiple faiths and therefore not open to a communally-oriented solution finding.

The earlier regimes - for reasons of our domestic politics largely seemed to have compromised on

these paradigms.

It was known that the political parties of the Valley - National

Conference and Peoples Democratic Party - always kept the separatists represented by the Hurriyat on their side for gaining power and did nothing during their rule to check the growing collusion between Pak ISI and the Hurriyat leadership in spreading subversion in the state. The planned ouster of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley forced by Islamic militants in the early Nineties was an ISI project that aimed at creating a totally Muslim territory for Pakistan to lay claim on.

It will always be a shame for the then government at the Centre as well as the so-called mainstream parties of the Valley that they did not make any effective move to prevent a communal tragedy that had engulfed an important segment of the Kashmiri population. Soon, the

Pak army-ISI combine launched its plan of replicating Afghan Jehad in Kashmir by sending in Mujahideen to subdue the Valley by unleashing faith-based terror and managed to create a situation where the leaders of the militant outfits of the indigenous Jamaat-e-Islami - HuM and Dukhtaran-e-Millat - were also taking orders directly from Maulana Hafiz Sayeed, the Lashkar-e-Toiba chief based in Pakistan.

The three-pronged policy of Modi government announced that terrorists in Kashmir or any where else will be militarily put down, that there will be no talks with Pakistan till this rogue neighbour gave up on cross-border terrorism and that the pro-Pak agents in the Valley, including the separatists, will be pursued legally in a forceful manner.

ormer Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari was on Monday arrested by the country’s anti-corruption watchdog in a fake bank accounts case.

A 15-member team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials, accompanied by police personnel, arrested the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-Chairman from his residence in the capital after an Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench rejected extending his prearrest bail, Geo News reported.

All roads leading to Zardari’s residence were blocked by the police.

Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur are being investigated for alleged money laundering by a committee comprising of members of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the intelligence services on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Talpur, a co-accused in the case, was also denied extension in her pre-arrest bail, but has not been arrested as yet.

According to an earlier report by the probe panel, the widower of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and his accomplices have laundered 4.3 billion rupees (around $28 million) through 29 bank accounts bearing the names of third parties.

Zardari has denied the allegations and claimed that the probe was politically motivated and instigated by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

12 Indians among 17 killed in Dubai IANS, DUBAI

t least 12 Indians were among the 17 people killed in a horrific crash in which a bus full of holiday makers returning from Oman met with an accident in Dubai, the Consulate General of India (CGI) said here on Friday.

The tourist bus was carrying 31 passengers of different nationalities and crashed in to the signboard at Al Rashidiya exit at 5.40 p.m. on Thursday.

he Karnataka government on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the alleged misuse of investors’ deposits worth crores of rupees by the city-based IMA Jewels firm.

“A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being set up to inquire into complaints by hundreds of investors that IMA Jewels has stopped returning their deposits and paying hefty interest on them,” state Home Minister M.B. Patil told reporters after a meeting with top police officials here on the alleged Rs 500-crore scam.

IS module: NIA finds political links in TN CHENNAI/NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has yet again found a political connection in its investigation into the new Islamic State module in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, officials said.

The NIA which carried out searches at over seven places in Coimbatore, including the residence and office premises of the accused, seized pamphlets belonging to the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political arm, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDMI), officials said.

“The NIA is trying to join the loose ends following its searches in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore,” an NIA source said on Wednesday.

The PFI is considered an Islamic outfit and has been under the Central agency’s scanner for long.

“As most of the investors are ordinary people, including women from all occupations, we are worried about the safety of their savings, which are meant for the education or marriage of their children. The state government should arrest Khan and get their deposits returned with interest,” state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan told reporters after meeting with Patil.

Popular comedy writer Crazy Mohan dead IANS, CHENNAI

enowned Tamil writer, actor and comedy giant Crazy Mohan breathed his last here on Monday after he suffered a major heart attack. He was 67.

“After he complained of pain in his chest and suffered a heart attack, he was rushed to Kauvery hospital in the afternoon. Efforts were made to revive him but unfortunately he passed away around 2 p.m.,” a family source told IANS. Born as Mohan Rangachari in

1952, Mohan’s first stint with writing began in college, where he was studying Mechanical Engineering, when he wrote the script for “Great Bank Robbery” for an inter-collegiate contest.

He then started writing scripts for his brother Maadhu Balaji’s drama troupe. In 1976, Mohan wrote his first full-length play called Crazy Thieves in Paalavakkam, thereby earning the moniker ‘Crazy’ in his name.

Epic box office clash averted ‘Sooryavanshi’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Inshallah’ will release on different dates IANS, MUMBAI

irector Rohit Shetty’s film Sooryavanshi, which was to have an epic box office clash with Salman Khan’s Inshallah on Eid in May 2020, will now be released on March 27.

Sooryavanshi features Bollywood’s khiladi Akshay Kumar in high-octane sequences, while Inshallah is going to be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Salman made the announcement with a photograph in which Rohit and he are twinning in black.

esearchers have developed an algorithm that predicts whether an actor’s career has peaked and also predicts their most successful days in future, with an accuracy of 85 per cent.

The research team discovered that the most productive years for actors, defined as the year with the largest number of credited jobs, are towards the beginning of their careers.

The study, published in the journal Nature Communications shows how around 70 per cent actors and actresses have careers that only last for one year.

questions about the fairness of the system. Our predictive model for actors is also far from the randomness that is displayed for scientists and artists,” study author from the

For the study, the researchers used data of Internet Movie Database (IMDb) and looked at the

careers of over 2.4 million actors from around the world from 1888 to 2016 to analyse and predict success on the silver screen.

They found that careers are clustered into ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ streaks, as individuals do not tend to work at a steady rate in a business where unemployment rates hover at around 90 per cent.

There is also huge evidence of gender biases in the industry, as most of the patterns were observed different for actors and actresses, the study said.

According to the outcomes, the total number of jobs in a career is underpinned by the rich-get-richer phenomenon.

Hence, an actor’s success could be down to their circumstances rather than the acting ability.

Cuccinelli Named Acting Director of USCIS

BY USCIS WASHINGTON, DC— Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan today announced that Kenneth T. (Ken) Cuccinelli will serve as the new acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), effective June 10, 2019.

Cuccinelli will lead an agency of 19,000 employees and contractors who are responsible for administering our nation’s lawful immigration system while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values. In fiscal year 2018 alone, USCIS adjudicated more than 8.7 million requests for immigration benefits.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at this critical time and serve alongside this agency’s dedicated workforce,” said Acting Director Cuccinelli. “USCIS has the extraordinary responsibility to administer and protect the integrity of our nation’s lawful immigration system. Cuccinelli previously served as Virginia’s attorney general from 2010 to 2014. During his time as attorney general, he led the Commonwealth in fighting human trafficking.

Additionally, he led efforts resulting in record enforcement against gangs, health care fraud, and child predators. Cuccinelli also served in the Senate of Virginia from 2002 to 2010 and has practiced law for nearly 25 years.

Cuccinelli earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Virginia, a law degree from Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, and a Masters in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University.

Cuccinelli and his wife, Teiro, grew up and live in Virginia and have seven children.

Indian American Arrested for Waving Gun at DC Pride Parade, Sparking Stampede

BY A STAFF WRITER WASHINGTON , DC — A man threatened another person with a BB gun during an LGBTQ pride parade on June 9th in the nation’s capital and set off a panic that sent hundreds of people, who mistakenly believed gunshots were fired, running in fear, police.

Aftabjit Singh, 38, was hauled away shirtless, arrested on weapons possession and disorderly conduct charges after the June 9 evening incident in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C., where thousands of people packed the streets to celebrate in the city’s annual pride parade.

Although no gunshots were fired, hundreds of people ran from the area, knocking down metal police barricades and running into stores, fearing that a gunman had opened fire on the crowd of revelers. Seven people were taken to local hospitals for injuries they suffered while fleeing the area, authorities said.

Inside a small park in Dupont Circle, Singh pulled the BB gun on another person who was “hitting his significant other,” according to a police report. People began running from the area and police officers who were keeping watch over the festivities

As the officers got closer, someone in the crowd pointed to Singh and said he had a gun in his bag. An officer stopped Singh and noticed what appeared to be a silver handgun sticking out of his brown bag that was underneath a tree, the report said. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun, police said.

As he was led away in handcuffs, Singh vowed to come back and shoot the person

whom he had threatened, police said.

Organizers decided to shut down the parade for the night after the incident but said they would not allow the scare to ruin the weekend pride celebrations. The group that organizes the event said it spends extensive time planning security procedures.

It was not immediately clear whether Singh had an attorney who could comment on the allegations. He’s expected to appear in court this week.

Indian Origin Man Charged with Possession of Child Porn

BY A STAFF WRITER BELCAMP, MD- Police have arrested a Harford County man Wednesday on charges of possessing child pornography following a roughly three-month investigation.

Sandeep M. Patel, 29, of the 1300 block of Cranesbill Court in Belcamp, is charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography.

Patel was arrested at his residence without incident and taken to the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack for processing, according to a state police news release.

In February, detectives from the Baltimore County Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began an online investigation involving the possession of child pornography.

Detectives discovered a person online actively pursuing child pornography files, and traced it to an address in Harford County.

In April, the case was transferred to an investigator assigned to the Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

At approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday, Maryland State Police, assisted by Homeland Security Investigations, served a search warrant at the identified address. During the search, a preliminary forensic review of Patel’s electronic devices revealed multiple child pornography files, police said.

The devices were seized and will be analyzed by the Maryland State Police Digital Forensics Laboratory. Patel was arrested without incident.

BY A STAFF WRITER AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA — A New Jersey man was stopped along Interstate 81 this week en route to New York with more than $200,000 worth of contraband cigarettes, police say.

According to a news release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Kahtan Seidi, 28, of Clifton, N.J., was driving a rental 2019 Ford Expedition north on Tuesday just before midnight when he was stopped near mile marker 225.

The release does not say why the deputy pulled him over other than it was a “traffic stop.”

As the deputy spoke with Seidi, he saw a large amount of cigarettes in the vehicle, partially covered in the passenger seat, the release says.

He also noticed the entire passenger compartment of the vehicle was full of cigarette cases and cartons.

The investigation revealed Seidi was taking the contraband tobacco products to New York City, where cigarettes cost $13 a pack.

BY A STAFF WRITER CARY, NC- A 2-year-old girl’s birthday celebration ended tragically Thursday, when she and her father were killed while driving from Cary, North Carolina, to Myrtle Beach.

The Cary family was headed to the beach to celebrate the child’s birthday.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Monika Deshmukh, 36, ran through a stop sign at the end of the ramp from U.S. 74 to U.S. 410. The family’s Ford Focus ended up in the path of an oncoming tanker truck. A Good Samaritan who helped get the woman and the toddler out of the burning car said he and three

others did what they could to save the family.

Mukesh Deshmukh, 37, died at the scene north of Chadbourn in Columbus County and 2-year-old Divija Deshmukh was pronounced dead later that day at a Wilmington hospital, the station reported.

The girl’s mother Monika Deshmukh, who was driving the car, was hospitalized “with critical but not life-threatening injuries,” according report.

Turban and Beard Approved

BY A STAFF WRITER WASHINGTON, DC- For the first time, the Air Force has granted a Sikh airman permission to wear a turban, beard and long hair, following the practices of his faith.

The U.S. Air Force has granted Airman 1st Class Harpreetinder Singh Bajwa permission to serve with a turban, beard and unshorn hair in compliance with his Sikh religious beliefs, making him the first Indian American Sikh in the Air Force to be granted such a religious accommodation.

Bajwa, who is a crew chief at McChord Air Force Base, Washington, is the first active Airman to be authorized to adhere to Sikh religious grooming and dress principles while serving his country, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund said in a statement.

“I’m overjoyed that the Air Force has granted my religious accommodation,” Bajwa said in the statement. “Today, I feel that my country has embraced my Sikh heritage, and I will be forever grateful for this opportunity.”

The first-generation Indian American, who enlisted in the Air Force in 2017, was “not permitted to practice certain Sikh beliefs due to Air Force grooming and dress rules,” said SALDEF. However, after learning about religious accommodations granted recently to Sikh servicemembers in the U.S. Army as well as a religious accommodation allowing a Muslim Air Force officer to wear hijab, Bajwa, said the statement, contacted

BY A STAFF WRITER BROOKLYN, NY- Speeding driver with 4-year-old boy in back seat charged with manslaughter after drunken Brooklyn crash kills Uber Eats deliveryman Mohammed Abdullah was killed while riding an Arrow 10 e-Bike when he was struck by a vehicle Sunday night.

A speeding driver with a 4-year-old boy in the back seat has been charged with manslaughter after cops say she drunkenly crashed in Brooklyn, killing an Uber Eats deliveryman, cops said.

The mayhem began when the 22-yearold driver, speeding east on Avenue D in Canarsie in a 2007 Infiniti G35, lost control near E. 105th St. about 10:35 p.m. Sunday.

She allegedly struck Mohammed Abdullah, who was riding an Arrow 10 e-Bike, then mounted the curb and slammed into a building, cops said.

Abdullah was sent flying through the air by the impact, landing in the roadway. Medics rushed Abdullah, who lived in East New York, to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died.

The Infiniti driver, identified by cops as 22-year-old Treasure Liggins, also of East New York, and the child in her back seat were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Cops arrested Liggins for a slew of charges including manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and aggravated DWI for having a child in

the car with her. Liggins and her 4-year-old son live with Liggins’ great-grandmother, Betty McLendon.

Abbdullah’s uncle Belal Hossain, 59 described Abdullah, who came to New York From Bangladesh in 2017, as a hard-working immigrant who was generous despite financial struggles. Hossain, a yellow cab driver, said Abdullah shared his Brooklyn apartment with four friends who are also from Bangladesh Friends and relatives said Abdullah started working for Uber Eats a month ago - and was delivering food for them on his e-bike when he was killed.
