Slept on this Want to do everything for too long possible to keep peace for Pompeo calls for global people of India, China: Trump push back against Xi HiIndia Newsdesk The time has come for the world to push back against the challenge posed by the Chinese Communist Party, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said as he contended that the US “slept on this threat for too long.” Pompeo also said the Chinese government was aware of human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus before they shared this information with the world. “Countries not only in Southeast Asia but in Asia more broadly, in Europe, have come to understand the threat that the Chinese Communist Party presents. The United States slept on this for too long,” Pompeo told Bill Hemmer of Fox News in an interview on Thursday. “I think they all did too, and I think they’re coming to a joint conclusion that it’s time for the world to make sure that we get this right.

Donald Trump replaces re-election campaign manager HiIndia Newsdesk Facing a tough re-election battle, President Trump has replaced his campaign manager, on a day when opinion polls showed that his Democratic rival Joe Biden has taken a double digit lead over him. “I am pleased to announce that Bill Stepien has been promoted to the role of Trump Campaign Manager,” the president said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night. Stepien, Trump’s former second-incommand, replaces Brad Parscale as the president’s campaign manager, some 16 weeks before the November 3 election. The shakeup comes as the Trump campaign has sought to revive the momentum amid a pandemic that wreaked havoc on a once booming US economy.

"He (Trump) said I love the people of India and I love the people of China and I want to do everything possible to keep the peace for the people," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said. HiIndia Newsdesk US President Donald Trump has said that he wants to do everything possible to keep peace for the people of India and China, according to his spokesperson. Over the past several weeks, the Trump administration has come out in support of India against China. “He (Trump) said I love the people of India and I love the people of China and I want to do everything possible to keep the peace for the people,” White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters at a news conference here on Thursday. “India has been a great partner. They are an important partner of ours. I have a great relationship with my foreign minister counterpart. We talked frequently about a broad range of issues. We talked about the conflict they had along the border with China.

Donald Trump urged to ban TikTok, other Chinese apps

HiIndia Newsdesk A group of 24 influential Republican Congressmen urged US President Donald Trump on Wednesday to ban TikTok and other Chinese mobile applications, stating

that India has taken the extraordinary step of banning 60 Chinese-affiliated apps due to national security concerns. Writing to support the administration’s efforts to restrict TikTok and other social media platforms linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from accessing US markets, the lawmakers, in a letter to Trump, alleged that these popular apps’ data collection practices, coupled with China’s onerous cybersecurity laws requiring all companies operating in China, including TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to share user data with CCP authorities, present a very real threat to US national security. “As such, we urge your administration to take decisive action to protect the American people’s privacy and safety,” the lawmakers wrote to Trump.

Trump administration exempts European students from Covid travel restrictions HiIndia Newsdesk Foreign students coming from Europe are exempt from a travel ban the United States imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic, the US State Department told congressional offices on Thursday. The State Department also told lawmakers that it would offer exemptions for some au pairs and family members of visa holders in the United States, according to a memo sent to lawmakers and seen by Reuters. T h e m ove s are p ar t of a Tr u mp administration effort to gradually reopen international travel following months of sweeping restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. President Donald Trump banned travelers from most European countries in March as Covid-19 cases soared in the region before the disease took hold in the United States.

After US, India has done most White House says Trump has not ruled Covid-19 tests, says White House out sanctions on Chinese officials HiIndia Newsdesk After the US, which has carried out a record 42 million Covid-19 tests, India has done the second largest number of 12 million coronavirus tests, the White House has said. More than 3.5 million people have tested positive with the coronavirus and 138,000 died in the US. Globally, more than 13.6 million have tested positive and over 586,000 have died. “With regard to (the coronavirus) testing, we’ve done more than 42 million tests. The second-highest number is 12 million from India. We’re leading the world in testing,” White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters at a news conference here on Thursday. The White House was responding to

questions related to the coronavirus pandemic in the US. “We have done more than any country in the world on testing; there’s no doubt about that -- 42 million tests. The country with the next highest number is India at 12 million,” McEnany said. This record testing, she said, is in a very stark contrast than the previous administration. CBS is reporting that in 2009 under Obama-Biden, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention abruptly advised states to stop testing for the H1N1 flu and stopped counting individual cases, she said. “Ron Klain, Vice President Biden’s former Chief of Staff said this: It is “purely a fortuity that (H1N1) isn’t one of the great mass casualty events in American history. It had nothing to do with us doing anything right.”

efence minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived in Ladakh on Friday morning, said that talks are underway to resolve the border dispute with China in Ladakh, but stopped short of giving any guarantees on the resolution. However, Singh underlined that not an inch of our land can be taken by any power in the world. India and China have held many talks over the past few weeks, even activating the Special Representatives Group to resolve the issue. “Talks are underway to resolve the border dispute but to what extent it can be resolved I cannot guarantee. I can assure you, not one inch of our land can be taken by any power in the world. If solution can

be found by talks, there is nothing better,” said Singh. On Thursday, reflecting on the disengagement process between the two armies along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the army said it is an “intricate process” and “requires constant verification”. “The senior commanders reviewed the progress on implementation of the first phase of disengagement and discussed further steps to ensure complete disengagement,” army spokesperson Colonel Aman Anand said yesterday. The disengagement effort involves rival troops pulling back a specified distance from face-off sites, with further retreat taking place in phases as the plan progresses on a verifiable basis on the ground every 72 hours by both sides.

HiIndia Newsdesk The Centre on Thursday sketched a flight plan for foreign airlines following US action against the chartered flights being carried out by Air India, a facility denied to the American carriers. India has now established individual bilateral bubbles with France, Germany and the US that will allow airlines of each country in the pact to operate international flights, said the civil aviation ministry on Thursday. Air France will be operating 28 flights between Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Paris from July 18 to August 1, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said at a press conference. American carrier United Airlines will be flying 18 flights between India and the US from July 17 to 31, he said. “They (United) are flying a daily flight between Delhi and Newark and a thrice-a-week flight between Delhi and San Francisco,” Puri said.

The Congress on Friday demanded the arrest of Union minister and BJP leader Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and rebel Congress MLA Bhanwarlal Sharma after two audio clips surfaced pertaining to an alleged conspiracy to topple the Ashok Gehlot government. AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also demanded the arrest of Sanjay Jain, whom he described as a BJP leader. Cracking the whip, the Congress suspended party MLAs Sharma, who is purportedly talking with the minister in the audio clips, and Vishvendra Singh from the primary membership of the party and issued them show cause notices. Sharma, a Sachin Pilot loyalist, has, however, denied the allegations. When the audio tapes surfaced on Thursday, he had termed them as fake and said the voice in it was not his. Surjewala charged that the conspiracy to topple the Congress government was clear in the audio tapes, terming it as a black chapter in the history of democracy.

In the video message posted on Twitter, he hit out at the government saying that over the last six years, India has been "disturbed and disrupted" with regard to its foreign policy and economy.

The video message is the first of a series initiated by Rahul Gandhi to share his thoughts with people on various issues facing the country.

HiIndia Newsdesk Stepping up his attack on the government over the LAC standoff, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday issued a video message sharing his thoughts on why did China

The video message is the first of a series initiated by Gandhi to share his thoughts with people on various issues facing the country. “Since 2014, the PM’s constant blunders and indiscretions have fundamentally weakened India and left us vulnerable. Empty words don’t suffice in the world of geopolitics,” he alleged in a tweet along with the video message. Gandhi said one has to go into multiple spaces, including India’s economy and ties with neighbours and other countries, to understand why did the Chinese choose this particular time to move against India and violate the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and what gave them the confidence to turn so aggressive.

Vaccine hopes rise after T-cell discovery The Lancet’ medical journal has confirmed that it would be publishing early-stage human trial data from the Oxford team on Monday.

Bitcoin raid targets Twitter’s VIP users HiIndia Newsdesk

It was about 4 in the afternoon (1.30am IST on Thursday) on Wednesday on the East Coast of the US when chaos struck online. Dozens of the biggest names in America — including Joseph R. Biden Jr, Barack Obama, Kanye West, Bill Gates and Elon Musk — posted similar messages on Twitter: Send Bitcoin and the famous people would send back double your money. It was all a scam, of course, the result of one of the most brazen online attacks in memory. A first wave of attacks hit the Twitter accounts of prominent

cryptocurrency leaders and companies. But soon after, the list of victims broadened to include a Who’s Who of Americans in politics, entertainment and tech, in a major show of force by the hackers. Twitter quickly removed many of the messages, but in some cases similar tweets were sent again from the same accounts, suggesting that Twitter was powerless to regain control. “We’re looking into what other malicious activity they may have conducted or information they may have accessed,” Twitter’s spokesman added. “We’ve taken significant steps to limit access to internal systems and tools while our investigation is ongoing.”

UK, US, Canada accuse Russia of hacking virus vaccine trials

HiIndia Newsdesk Researchers at the University of Oxford believe they may have a breakthrough in their search for a Covid-19 vaccine after the team discovered that the jab could provide “double protection” against the deadly coronavirus following early stage human trials, according to media reports in the UK. Blood samples taken from a group of UK volunteers given a dose of the vaccine showed that it stimulated the body to produce both antibodies and “killer T-cells”, a senior source from the trial was quoted by

‘The Daily Telegraph’ as saying. The discovery is promising because separate studies have suggested that antibodies may fade away within months while T-cells can stay in circulation for years. However, the source cautioned that the results, while “extremely promising”, did not yet prove that the Oxford vaccine provides long-lasting immunity against the deadly virus. “I can tell you that we now know the Oxford vaccine covers both bases – it produces both a T cell and an antibody response. It’s the combination of these two that will hopefully keep people safe.

Sourav Ganguly wants Virat Kohli ‘to live up to the standards’.

HiIndia Newsdesk BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has revealed that he has already had a tête-à-tête with Virat Kohli about the upcoming tour of Australia and told him that he expects the India captain to win Down Under this time around too.India is set to tour Australia this October for a three-match T20I series, but it remains to be seen how the pandemic plays a part in the proceedings. Later, the two teams will engage each other in a four-match Test series

and a three-match ODI series in December. The last time Kohli’s team visited Australia, they forged history as India won the series 2-1, becoming the first Asian nation to win a Test series in the country. Ganguly said, “I said, ‘because you’re Virat Kohli, your standards are high. When you walk to play, when you walk with your team, I, watching on TV, don’t expect you to just play well against Australia. I expect you to win’.” “So for me, that is what it is. ‘Because you have set the standards. It’s not anybody else. So you have to live up to the standards’,” Ganguly further added. The 48-year-old added that he has been in touch with Kohli and is constantly speaking to the team on fitness levels amid the ongoing global pandemic. “I have been in touch with him [Kohli], telling him, ‘you have got to stay fit.’ You haven’t played cricket for six months, you don’t want your fast bowlers to come back and get injured. West Indies batsmen, center, greet England players after winning the first cricket Test match between England and West Indies, at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, England, Sunday.

HiIndia Newsdesk International cricket’s return from the pandemic-induced hiatus has proved to be a fascinating affair, with the West Indies recording an emphatic four-wicket win over England in the first Test of the three-match series at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday (July 12) evening. The win has sent social media into a bit of a frenzy.

India captain Virat Kohli tweeted: “wow @ westindiescricket what a win. Top display of Test cricket.” West Indies cricket legend Sir Viv Richards heaped praise on Jason Holder’s team. “First game after the break belongs to us! Some gritty performance from the lads. This team deserves the win in this game. Congratulations boys. You make us proud”.

From a bit-part bowler in his early days, Jason Holder has transformed into a multi-skilled operator picking up 60 wickets at an average of 14 in the last two years with six five-wicket hauls.

Pulisic was Chelsea’s most threatening player, having had an effort tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Tim Krul before the opener. The American was also denied by Krul from a volley in the second half at a supporterfree Stamford Bridge.

HiIndia Newsdesk Olivier Giroud put Chelsea closer to Champions League qualification by sealing a 1-0 victory over relegated Norwich on Tuesday. Giroud headed in Christian Pulisic’s cross from the left wing in first-half stoppage time. “I was delighted with Christian’s movement to run behind and the little angle because that’s not what we were doing in the

There’s a nuanced operator lurking beneath the unassuming disposition of Jason Holder. He classifies himself as an end-to-end stock bowler. But your garden variety stock bowlers can’t be wheeling away with 60 wickets at an average of 14 in the last two years, or striking every 34th delivery, or racking up six fivewicket hauls in this span, hiding the swagger in his smile, deception in his demeanour. From a bit-part bowler in his early days, he has transformed into a multi-skilled operator. It’s the six feet eight frame that first strikes most batsmen. The height— and a release from 2.31 metres— cajoles awkward bounce from the surface. In the incipience of his career, in the fine tradition of heyday Caribbean quicks, he was overzealous in bouncing

But the lack of pace made him imminently hittable. So, he started hitting the back of length and good length areas more often. The end product: A more dreaded proposition to negotiate than he was in firstclass days. all fast bowlers of this generation are generally not masterful exponents of swing. They are hardwired into back-of-length destroyers. But Holder clearly is. A Cricviz statistic reveals that no other bowler has managed to swing the ball as consistently as Holder in the last two years. (1.68 degree). Not even Kemar Roach with the new ball managed to swing the ball as constantly as Holder, who managed a mean of 1.7 degree, the most among West Indies quicks. Generally, he procures swing into righthanded batsmen. The first of his six wickets in Southampton, Zak Crawley, was thus manufactured.

How to undo the bad habits you picked up in quarantine

773.526.8353 MIDWEST / EASTCOAST

Reign in stress eating :

There’s a natural tendency to turn to food to cope with added stress, but if unhealthy eating habits are left unchecked — and if they're not supplemented with other, more appropriate coping strategies — the effects of unhealthy eating habits can worsen your physical and emotional health.

Months at home during lockdown hindered many people’s healthy habits — here’s how to get back on track.

I

Don't work extra hours

Data released in March showed that on average, Americans increased their workday by 40%, tacking on an extra three hours to their remote gigs. That extra work can mean extra stress and less time to engage in healthful self-care activities like meditation, cooking and working out.

f the stress of a global pandemic and the transition to quarantine life disrupted your healthy routines, you’re not alone — according to the results from several surveys. In one survey among the general population conducted by WW, 72% of respondents reported gaining more weight during quarantine than the holidays. Another survey conducted for the protein powder company, Naked Nutrition, found that 65% of those surveyed took time off from working out while on lockdown. And a national Blue Cross Blue Shield Survey suggested that there’s been a 23% increase in alcohol consumption since the pandemic began. Forming unhealthy habits works the same way as forming healthy ones, said Gary Foster, the chief scientific officer for WW. At some point, there’s a trigger — say, lockdown — then the behavior (let’s go with baking banana bread), and then the reward. In this example, the reward might be a sense of coziness or the delicious taste of the bread, or the payoff could be that baking is a fun activity to do with your kids. The good news is that with attention and practice, you can undo any of the less-than-stellar habits you developed during quarantine and shift your focus to establishing healthy ones.

Moderate how much alcohol you're drinking

Even if your drinking is within the healthy range of one glass a day for women or two for men, this new habit can veer toward unhealthy territory if it’s causing you distress or interfering with your life. Goldman suggests asking yourself whether it bothers you that you’re drinking more and whether this habit is interfering with your productivity.

Stop skipping workouts

To get back on track with your fitness routine, consider your mindset, said Foster. lifestyle habits, recognize that it’s normal for routines to change when life throws you a curveball. Don’t think of it as a setback; think of it as part of the nonlinear nature of progress.

Sitting all day? Add these 4 small movements to your routine

Here are a few unexpected ways — using your sink, steps and couch — to get more active when you're stuck at home.

I

t's easy to work more movement into your day. Here are a few unexpected places for you to get more active in your daily life — in an achievable and tangible way.

1. In the morning: sink side steps

First thing in the morning, you can start to improve your flexibility, movement and joint comfort. Step your right foot to the right, about 3-4 feet away, bend the right knee and keep the left leg straight. With the right knee tracking over the right ankle, pulse three times. Then, press down through the right heel and come back to

center. Repeat this 10 times, and then switch to the left side.

2. While you're sitting during the day: chair taps you can do modified high knees. Bend your right knee up towards your chest and tap the foot onto the chair, then place it back down on the ground. Repeat with the left knee and foot. You can do this slowly, or you can step it up and add a bounce without a pause between each side. Repeat back and forth for 30 seconds.

3. Using the stairs: step-up steps

Improve your range of motion in your hips and your lower body flexibility by doing this exercise: Step up onto the step with the closest foot. Stretch, lunge forward and then bring the other foot up to meet it. Go up the entire flight of stairs this way.

4. Lounging on the couch: couch dips

Let’s loosen up and strengthen the upper

Time for a change Q. How often should I change my mask?

Facemasks are going to be a way of life for a long time to come. You need four to five masks. They must be removed when you come from outside, washed with soap and hot water and dried in the sun. Otherwise, infective droplets that may have settled on the mask can infect you a couple of hours later.

body. Sitting on the edge of the couch, walk the feet forward. Place your hands on the edge of the couch, with the fingers towards your body and hold onto the edge of the couch. Keep the knees bent, and lower down into a tricep dip. Pull your abs in and bend at your elbows so that your back is almost grazing the front edge of the couch. Hug the elbows in towards your body as you lower down and press back up. Repeat 10 times.

Q. I keep reading about medications for the coronavirus infection. Should I start taking anything prophylactically?

The guidelines are not very clear yet. All the medications recommended, alone or in combination, are potent and have side effects. While taking them, the risks have to be weighed against potentially dangerous side effects. Unless advised by a physician, exercise for 40 minutes a day, avoid going out, maintain social distancing, wear a mask, take steam inhalations, gargle twice a day and do pranayama, the breathing exercises in yoga.

have never felt like an outsider,” stated the actor who has unwittingly made a trilogy of “isolation” movies that began with Aligarh (in which he played the lonely Marathi professor Siras hounded for his sexual preferences), continued with Gali Guleiyan (mind games of a man obsessed with watching

the world through closed-circuit cameras), topped off with Bhonsle (a retired Mumbai cop who watches a parochial Bihari versus Maharashtrian battle play out in his chawl). When migrants from UP-Bihar began to be targeted for a brief spell in Maharashtra in 2008, he watched, assessed and concluded, “It was politically motivated, it wasn’t the ground reality. When it took an ugly turn with violence and manhandling, it disturbed me as a person from Bihar. It bothered me that political ambition could actually divide people on religious and regional lines. It upset me as a fellow citizen. We are informed people who know the ground reality of the country and the state.” Bhonsle, his film, said it all. Talent and destiny apart, he reached there

through a mix of “stubbornness and fearlessness”. “I take failure on the chin, I’m never scared of failing. In fact, the more I fail the more powerful I become in my resolve. I’ve been like this since my childhood. To this day my mother, an immensely strong lady, says, ‘You never give up.’ She had six of us to manage but always said she felt harassed by me,” he chuckled. He described celebrity voices incessantly chattering in public as “a desperate need to be counted on every topic and that doesn’t go down well with me.”

leana DCruz took to social media to capture her "forever mood", and that is being a "goofball". "Forever mood. Well...90% of the time… #goofball #cantstopwontstop," Ileana wrote on Instagram along with a short clip. In the clip, she is seen enjoying a photoshoot session. Meanwhile, in her Instagram stories, she sent out an inspiring message to her followers, wherein she told them that "it's ok" to not feel amazing at all times. Talking about how she didn't get the expected results after her workout, she wrote, "Been a strange couple of days. . . Felt great yesterday but today not so much... Didn't even want to workout today but I still did it. I'd like to say that I felt frickin amazing after I finished my workout but I didn't. A tiny bit better but definitely not amazing. And that's ok. Some days are hard. That's ok." Ileana has been a successful actress both in the South and Bollywood. She made her Bollywood debut with Barfi! in 2012 and was hailed by one and all for her charming and confident performance. She went on to do films like Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, Main Tera Hero, Raid, and last year's Pagalpanti. She's now gearing up for The Big Bull, a film that's being bankrolled by Ajay Devgn and Anand Pandit and stars Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. It's touted to be based on the life of Harshad Mehta and the securities scam that happened in 1992.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek, who were admitted to Nanavati Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19, are stable, hospital authorities said on Monday. Abhishek will be discharged soon, they added. Twenty-six staffers working across four bungalows of the Bachchans tested negative for coronavirus on Monday. In all, 54 close contacts of the family were traced. While most were staffers, BMC officials said they also traced people who had come in contact with Abhishek Bachchan, as he had travelled recently for film-related work. Of the 54 contacts, while 26 were tested, 28 low-risk contacts have been sent to home quarantine.

Sanjay Dutt-starrer Torbaaz to finally see the light of day? After Bhuj: The Pride of India and Sadak 2, another Sanjay Dutt-starrer appears to be gearing up for a digital premiere. It is learnt that the actor's long-in-the-making film, Torbaaz, has been picked up by Netflix and is tentatively slated for an October release. A source reveals, "The OTT giant will announce its new slate this week. Torbaaz, which revolves around child suicide bombers in Afghanistan, is one of the many films that it has acquired in the past month. Though the release date of each project has yet to be determined, the Girish Malik-directed venture is pacing towards completion." The movie, also starring Nargis Fakhri, had gone on floors in Kyrgyzstan, in December 2017. After a spate of intermittent schedules, the makers had finally wrapped up the shoot in February 2019.

till struggling to face my emotions.. an irreparable numbness in my heart . You are the one who made me believe in love, the power of it . You taught me how a simple mathematical equation can decipher the meaning of life and I promise you that I learnt from you every day. I will never come to terms with you not being here anymore. I know you’re in a much more peaceful place now. The moon, the stars, the galaxies would’ve welcomed “the greatest physicist “with open arms . Full of empathy and joy, you could lighten up a shooting star - now, you are one . I will wait for you my shooting star and make a wish to bring you back to me. You were everything a beautiful person could be, the greatest wonder that the world has seen . My words are incapable of expressing the love we have and I guess you truly meant it when you said it is beyond both of us. You loved everything with an open heart, and now you’ve shown me that our love is indeed exponential. Be in peace Sushi. 30 days of losing you but a lifetime of loving you.... WEB SERIES

‘Everyone has a hero inside and SOS Kolkata will serve as inspiration’ - Ena Saha SOS Kolkata (produced by Jarek Entertainment — Ena’s production house — and Pratyush Production) is the first Bengali film whose shoot started post-lockdown.

How is it going so far?

Very, very good! Everything is running smoothly. I am working with Mimi didi for the second time (they had starred in the 2012 film Bojhena Shey Bojhena) and with Yashda and Nusrat didi for the first time. They are so nice to me all the time. I am super excited about my first production and to be working with everybody. I can’t believe that this is actually happening.

Now that you are a producer, do you see people treating you differently on the sets? They have always been sweet, kind and nice to me and it’s the same now. Maybe a little bit more this time! Hahaha!

Why did you turn producer with SOS Kolkata?

I really wanted to start with a film that has a good story. I wanted to produce a film that is meaningful and entertaining as well. I am trying to deliver on both fronts.

The way I look at the smallest things in life, the things that make you happy, it has all changed.” Himesh, who has judged more than 14 music reality shows, shared that coming to the sets after the lockdown was like “a breath of fresh air”. He then said, “It felt good to meet my colleagues after so long. I was cautious and fearful about the virus, ensuring that all possible precautions and safety measures were taken.”

When The Kapil Sharma Show and India’s Best Dancer will resume shoot

While fiction shows are working relentlessly to churn fresh content for the audience, reality series were yet to go on floors. As per latest updates, Sony TV’s India’s Best Dancers and The Kapil Sharma will resume shoot from July 13 and 21, respectively. A source shared that the channel and production houses were working on the logistics for resuming work on reality shows. With no audience on sets for now, the team has been working on alternative measures to have the same kind of energy during shoot. “Sonu Sood will be the first guest on The Kapil Sharma Show. Talks have been on with him for a long time, and Kapil personally has been in touch with Sood. He readily agreed, and even assured that he would be available as and when they would need him to shoot. The team has also spoken to Manoj Bajpayee to grace the show in the coming days,” added the source.

mong the various plaudits he’s received during his lifetime, including the entrepreneurial initiatives he’s spearheaded, the Pinkathon (which raises breast cancer awareness among women) truly stands out. There’s a different level of sincerity and honesty that shines through when he talks about it – both in the thought behind it and how it has blossomed over the years. “I personally think the biggest message of Pinkathon is when women see others like them participating in the marathon and understand that it’s okay to take out time for themselves from their familial responsibilities; it’s okay to be selfish. It’s so important to remain relevant to ourselves, whether we have reached retirement age or not, without thinking about the society. Self-love isn’t bad,” he says, adding that it takes a whole different mindset to run a marathon, considering most people have a negative association with difficulty. “But what if we changed our mindset? Doing hard things really makes you realise why humanity runs from it. But, it’s important to be patient with yourself. Explore your body's responses. It took me five years to graduate from running half marathons to full marathons. There are a number of people who have taken to running, and while it’s wonderful, there are many who push themselves too hard, trying to run a marathon within the year they start running,” he says. The final leg of our conversation shifts to the idea of staying relevant in an industry that is bombarded with new faces daily. “I’ve been asked this question a number of times because, in many ways, it is related to age. I believe that if you are relevant to yourself at any age, and if you know what you’re doing is right, you will always stay relevant to others. If you are still learning from your life experiences, people will be interested in your story,” he says.

Clothes definitely do maketh a celebrity. Especially in India, celebrity wardrobes are a big deal, because their fashion choices are avidly followed by millions. While styling both men and women in the industry, I have come to realise that men def initely are more picky about their looks and even more about the fits. Among women, Kriti Sanon is definitely a delight to dress because she has impeccable style and grace with which she carries all kinds of outfits. Her wardrobe is a heady mix of

Indian and Western attire, and she is the only one who carries herself stylishly in the most basic street style. She definitely is the most easygoing and relaxed.

TECHNOLOGY ‘smart wake’ alarm and dynamic GPS with latest software update The latest software update to the Fitbit Charge 4 gives two big upgrades including dynamic GPS, and a “smart wake” option. First reported by 9to5Google, the new features are now rolling out to all users. Dynamic GPS allows you to connect with the GPS in your phone if it’s in range, which may help with location accuracy and preserve the Fitbit’s battery life. If your phone isn’t close enough, the tracker will revert to its internal GPS, which can drain the battery more quickly. The Smart Wake feature is a pretty cool addition; it will work along with the wearable’s sleep tracker, and set alarms to wake you at the time you’re likely to feel most rested. Another new option allows users to decide how long the screen display stays on once the Fitbit has been awakened. In addition to the new features, the Fitbit Charge 4 also has Spotify control, a seven-day battery life, and other premium features that used to be reserved for its smartwatches. Released earlier this year, the Charge 4 sells for $149.95.

Closing MacBook with camera cover could damage display, Apple warns Apple has launched an advisory for MacBook users who have been using camera covers. Camera covers with sliding mechanisms have been used by many to avoid invasion into privacy, to ensure extra security from hackers. According to the information posted on Apple Support earlier this month, “the clearance between the display and keyboard is designed to very tight tolerances” and hence using a camera cover can cause a crack on the display screen. A The fact that Samsung is working on a new variant of the Galaxy Z Flip is not surprising, especially since it was a success.

5G variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip could be launched soon, if the leaks from Evan Blass are to be believed. Blass recently took to Twitter to share a video of the device that shows the 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip. It looks just like the existing model but reportedly features 5G connectivity and improved processor. The fact that Samsung is working on a new variant of the Galaxy Z Flip is not surprising, especially since it was a success. It makes sense for Samsung to launch a new variant of the Galaxy Z Flip, but the company has to offer something new to consumers. From the leaked video, the upcoming foldable phone doesn’t look different from the original LTE version; it just features 5G support and a new mystic bronze” colour. According to XDA Developer’s Max Weinbach, the phone will be slightly taller and thicker, and runs Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 865 Plus processor. The device may also have the same display, the cameras, the sensors and the battery size, according to Weinbach. The South Korean major launched the Galaxy Z Flip foldable earlier this year. It looks like a regular phone with a 6.7-inch screen but then folds in half like a classic flip phone. But the LTE variant of the Galaxy Z Flip doesn’t come cheap. The device costs Rs 1,08,999, meaning you have to pay a high price for a phone that folds in half.

Villivalam Speaks For Illinois’ Growing Asian American Population in Illinois Senate BY A STAFF WRITER CHICAGO , IL– Reaching to news that the Census Bureau has identified Asian Americans from countries like India and China as the fastest growing demographic group in Illinois, State Senator Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) vowed to continue to vigorously support Asian Americans, both recent immigrants and those who have been here for generations. “We need to ensure Asian Americans have access to all of the same state services as other Illinois residents,” said Villivalam, the first Asian American elected to the Illinois Senate and the Co-Chair of the Illinois General Assembly’s Asian American Caucus. “Making sure documents and websites are available in Asian languages is an important first step, and one that I’ve been pushing especially hard during the COVID-19 pandemic.” According to the Census Bureau, Illinois’ Asian American population has increased by 24% since 2010, with Asian Americans now making up 5.7% of the people in the state. “People who come from Asian cultures

State Senator Ram Villivalam

are helping increase the diversity and vibrancy of American culture,” Villivalam said. “The days of Asian Americans only living on Devon Ave., in Chinatown and in other nationalitybased enclaves are over. Now, you see temples, shrines, mosques, and restaurants serving food from across the Asian continent in cities big and small.”

Villivalam vowed to use his position as the first Asian American elected to the Illinois Senate to help educate his colleagues about the Asian American community and to help bring the community’s long-unrepresented perspective to all levels of Illinois government. Since joining the Senate, he has helped steer additional funding to support the Asian American community’s infrastructure needs by facilitating the creation of a Pan Asian American Community Center and an Asian American Chamber of Commerce, passed a law creating the Asian American Family Commission, and sponsored other measures targeted at the unique needs of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants. Villivalam also views the announcement that Asian Americans are the fastest growing group in Illinois as a reminder of how important it is to fill out the census. “If the Asian American community wants the representation it deserves in government and its fair share of federal resources, we all need to fill out the census,” Villivalam said.

Indian American Heart Surgeon and Pilot Playing Pivotal Role in War againest COVID-19

Heart Surgeon and pilot Dr. Venkataramana Vijay

BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY- Dr. Venkataramana Vijay is a New York heart surgeon and a Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet pilot playing a pivotal role in helping America wage its war against COVID-19. The Indian American physician has so far flown over 3 million pounds of essential medical supplies such as face masks, PPE, medical gloves and ventilator parts, among other items from China, Japan and Malaysia, to the U.S. under FEMA, while simultaneously working at the Mt. Sinai Hospital through New York City’s COVID-19 devastation. A fully trained physician from India, he started from the bottom up at prestigious institutions in New York, with general surgical training at the Mt. Sinai Hospital, followed by cardiothoracic surgical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he subsequently became a faculty member. Although his flying career started almost simultaneously, it has had a checkered past with frequent interruptions for financial reasons, the 9/11 crisis, the 2008 recession and other devastating times. Never the type to give up and always translating adversity to advantage, Vijay pursued and completed his training at the Teterboro School of Aeronautics in New Jersey to become a maintenance engineer at United Airlines on the Boeing 737, 757, 777 aircrafts, while continuing his medical career. He returned to commercial passenger flying in 2016 with Elite Airways from hubs such as Newark and Las Vegas to destinations like the Bahamas and Florida, San Francisco, Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska. His lifelong dream of flying the 747 finally came true with flying for Sky Lease Cargo to destinations in China, Japan and South East Asia. Life in America for this COVID-19 warrior started as a humble taxi cab driver, plying the streets of New York City on night shifts, during the Gulf War period. “To most people, front-liners and first responders mean doctors, nurses, EMT and other healthcare providers. However, pilots, loadmasters, mechanics, cargo loaders and other support ground staff are equally at risk, if not more, in discharging their functions during essential supplies transportation or during evacuation flights of passengers to their native countries. “I sincerely appeal to the global public and government officials of all nations to champion the cause of recognition for pilots and other aviation professionals as front-liners and first responders,” he said.

supportive of the leadership and a true advocate for our mission,” he said. As the new president of AAPI, Jonnalagadda said he would like to “develop a committee to work with children of AAPI members who are interested in medical school, to educate on choosing a school and gaining acceptance; develop a committee to work with medical residents who are potential AAPI members, to educate on contract negotiation, patient communication, and practice management; develop a committee to work with AAPI medical students, and to provide proctorship to improve their selection of medical residencies.” He also said he wishes to emphasize the importance of a legislative agenda both here in the U.S. and overseas, benefitting the physicians and the people AAPI is committed to serve. Suresh Reddy, the out-going president of AAPI, presented some of the major accomplishments

of his presidency. Expressing gratitude to the AAPI fraternity for entrusting the role of leading AAPI, Reddy said the organization is stronger and is in safe hands. “For the first time, we have started an endowment for AAPI with an initial establishment of quarter million dollars, the returns of which will be used to run the AAPI office. We have also transferred $100,000 for the incoming team to work on their goals and mission. This will help the future presidents focus on the goals and missions of AAPI rather than spend time on fund raising,” said Reddy. Under Reddy’s leadership, AAPI has been actively involved in community awareness programs like obesity prevention, sharing medical knowledge at the Global Health Summit, team building activities such as the Share a Blanket program, medical education programs such as CPR training, social networking programs including three trips to the continent of Antarctica, morale building programs like mentoring a future medical student, and India heritage programs like Independence Day celebrations, said the press release. AAPI also provided free masks to thousands of health care workers. In his opening remarks, Amit Kumar, Consul General of India in Chicago and the chief guest at the event, praised the contributions of Indian American physicians. He lauded the efforts of AAPI especially during the COVID pandemic. AAPI will continue to be an active player in crafting the delivery of healthcare in the most efficient manner in the United States and India, said Jonnalagadda. “We will strive for equity in healthcare delivery globally.”

State Sen. Villivalam Cautions Drivers to be Aware of Road Conditions in Summer Heat BY A STAFF WRITER CHICAGO, IL – As temperatures continue to rise, Illinois State Senate Transportation Chair Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) is urging drivers to be cautious of potential pavement buckling on roads due to the hot and humid weather. “During the summer we often worry about staying hydrated and reapplying sunscreen,” Villivalam said. “Oftentimes we forget that extreme heat can also cause the road pavement to crack and break which can create dangerous driving conditions.” According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, pavement failures or blowouts can occur when prolonged high temperatures cause roads to expand and buckle up or blow out, resulting in uneven driving surfaces. University of California to File Suit Against Ban on Foreign Students Taking Online Cources

BY A STAFF WRITER LOS ANGELES, CA – The University of California has announced plans to file a suit against President Donald Trump administration’s decision to ban foreign students taking only online courses. In a statement issued July 8, the president of the university, Janet Napolitano, called the order “mean-spirited, arbitrary and damaging to America,” reports Xinhua news agency. The lawsuit will seek a temporary restraining order and preliminary and permanent injunctive relief to bar the Immigration and Customs Enforcement from enforcing the order, said the statement. “This capricious and illegal order from the federal government” plunged international students into deeper anxiety and uncertainty, said Napolitano. “It is illegal, unnecessary and callous.” UC Board of Regents chair John A. Perez was quoted as saying in the statement that UC has increased online instruction and decreased in-person classes in order to protect students’ health amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is imperative for UC to file this lawsuit in order to protect our students.” “To UC’s international students, I say: ‘We support you and regret the additional chaos ICE’s action has caused’. To the courts, I say, ‘We are the University of California. UC knows science, UC knows law, and we approach both in good faith. Our opponents have shown you time and again that they do not’,” Perez said in the statement. The UC’s 2019 fall enrolment data showed that 27,205 of the university’s 226,125 undergraduate students are non-resident international, while 13,995 of 58,941 graduate

students are non-resident international. The UC’s announcement came as the University of Southern California joined an amicus brief strongly supporting a lawsuit filed by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology against the U.S. government’s move. On July 6, ICE unveiled the guidelines for F-1 and M-1 visas given to students restricting them to only students who take in-person courses or a combination of online and inperson courses. Those who take only online courses would not be eligible for the visa. As many universities switch to online teaching because of COVID-19 restrictions, not all foreign students can take in-person courses and they could be denied visas or fall out of visa status and have to leave the U.S. An analysis of student visa data suggests that in 2018 as many as 1,064,586 international students came to the U.S. to study in colleges and universities, according to College Factual, a leading source of data analytics and insights on college outcomes.

Oakton Seeks Entries For Women’s Virtual Art Exhibition by Aug. 14 BY A STAFF WRITER DES PLAINE, IL – Professional artists who self-identify as women are invited to submit entries in all media to Oakton Community College for the virtual exhibition “Where Are We Now?: Activism of the Everyday,” by Friday, Aug. 14. Due to ongoing concerns for the health and safety of the Oakton community during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s exhibition will be solely online. The exhibition, sponsored by Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) at Oakton, will be available publicly from Oct. 19 – Nov. 20. Oakton’s annual women’s art show is one of the region’s premier art events, attracting hundreds of participants and routinely drawing submissions locally, nationally and internationally. Coronavirus Cases Among 20-Somethings In NEW YORK CITY Rise

BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY — New York City’s 20-somethings put a damper on recent good news about New York City’s recent dip in coronavirus rates. Mayor Bill de Blasio highlighted a “worrisome” spike in COVID-19 infections rates among New Yorkers aged 20 to 29. He contrasted young New Yorkers’ rise in illnesses with steadily falling numbers in almost every coronavirus measurement — including a

feminism. This year’s exhibition thoughtfully examines how women have continued to evolve and change. Topics include: women as global citizens, providers, voters entering an election year, lovers, activists and individuals. Furthermore, the art show will explore where women are headed and why it matters. All submissions must be submitted electronically at https://oakton.sharefile. com/r-r8f4944570f04df6b. Images should be a JPEG (.jpg) of at least

300 dpi. (at least one MB). Label all work with the name, home address and phone number of the artist. Also, include the title of work, date and medium. Artist statement and biography should be a Microsoft Word document only (no PDFs or JPEGs) and less than 150 words (no résumés). Text will be edited for spelling, grammar and space. All digital media will be considered. Further details about submissions can be found at https://www.oakton.edu/ newsevents/news/2020/07/wgs_call_2020. pdf. For more information contact Nathan Harpaz, curator of the Koehnline Museum of Art, at nharpaz@oakton.edu or Lindsey Hewitt, coordinator of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, at lhewitt@oakton. edu.

Hindus Urge Orlando Firm to Withdraw “Blood of Kali” Tea and Apologize

Blood of Kali Chai black tea by Coffee Shop of Horrors

BY A STAFF WRITER ORLANDO, FL- Upset Hindus are urging Coffee Shop of Horrors located in Greater Orlando (Florida) to withdraw its “Blood of Kali” Chai Black Tea; calling it highly inappropriate. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that goddess Kali was highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshiped in temples or home shrines and not to be trivialized in a re-imagined version to sell tea. Inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or symbols or icons for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, also urged Coffee Shop of Horrors and its CEO to offer a formal apology; besides withdrawing from online and store sale the “Blood of Kali” teabags carrying re-imagined images of goddess Kali. Hindus were for free artistic expression and speech as much as anybody else if not more. But faith was something sacred and attempts at trivializing it hurt the followers, Rajan Zed said. Coffee Shop of Horrors; launched in 2007; sells coffee, tea, hot cocoa, candy; besides its Cafe Menu in its Montverde and Tavares locations in Greater Orlando. It claims: “We will sell nothing that’s over 30 days old”. Its “Blood of Kali” Chai Black Tea (3-ounces bag of loose-leaf tea) was priced at $10.99 and was a “traditional blend of black tea and finely ground cardamon, cinnamon, ginger root, black pepper and cloves”.
