HiIndia Newsdesk Around USD 2 million was written in by “big donors” and USD 1.3 million came in from smaller donors, said Ramesh Kapur, a member of the Biden-Harris National Finance Committee 2020, who participated in the fundraiser, adding he believed this was a record amount raised by the community at any single-night fundraiser. Biden acknowledged that he knew and understood this was because of Kamala Harris, his Indian-American nominee for vice president, Kapur said. The Indian-origin donors also allegedly pressed his campaign to moderate its positions on Kashmir and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, as also to add an agenda for the Hindu community on its web platform.

overseas jurisdiction.

The former vice-president was introduced to over 200 attendees at the virtual fundraiser by Vivek Murthy, the former US surgeon general, who is among those the community is pushing for a cabinet position in a possible Biden administration. Murthy recalled how Biden had helped with his rocky confirmation hearing process in the Republican-controlled US Senate. Some Indian Americans who wanted to “do more than just write cheques” also took the opportunity to press the former vice-president on his campaign’s position on Kashmir, CAA and the “lack of equal treatment” of Hindus, who don’t have a dedicated section on the campaign platform’s section titled “Joe’s Vision”.

"We were innocent but our visas were refused or revoked and the government gave us no way to defend ourselves. Our futures were destroyed and we were left to fight a years-long legal battle costing each of us tens of thousands of pounds," reads the letter. "We write to you because it is within your power to right this wrong, to put an end to our detention, deportation and humiliation. Allow us to prove our innocence by establishing a free and transparent scheme - independent of the Home Office - through which we can get our cases to be reviewed and clear our names," the letter adds. "The coronavirus pandemic has made our situation even worse. Our support networks have collapsed, the charities we rely on have been closed, our friends and families are unable to help as they are struggling themselves. We are terrified of catching the virus and being hospitalised, or dying with a black mark still against our names. This is not the future we wanted or worked for," the students wrote.

The ED had initiated its investigation after a complaint under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income & Assets) and Imposition of Act, 2015 [Black Money Act] was filed against accused Sanjay Bhandari before the court by Income Tax authorities. “It was revealed that accused Sanjay Bhandari stashed black money abroad with the assistance of his accomplices to evade taxes causing huge financial loss to the national exchequer,” said the ED.

Record surge in mail-in votes, poll Heated Trump raises officials warn of delayed results violence fears Of the 78 million mail-in votes requested this year, 9.3 million had been submitted by the beginning of this week, according to the University of Florida’s US Elections Project.

HiIndia Newsdesk Of the 78 million mail-in votes requested this year, 9.3 million had been submitted by the beginning of this week, according to the University of Florida’s US Elections Project. By this point in 2016, with three weeks still to go for the election, only about 1.4 million people had voted. This year, some states — Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia — have already received more mail-in ballots than their total mail-in ballots in 2016. “It’s great that voters have historic access to mail-in ballots and are voting in safe and secure ways.I look at it as an

Election Season now, and not a day. We know that more the mail-in ballots in states, the higher the share of the electorate that turns out to vote. So we are certainly going to see an unprecedented turnout this election,” said Amber McReynolds, former Director of Elections in Colorado, where she led one of the early efforts to instill universal mail-in balloting that has now inspired several other states to follow suit. The process to count the ballots might take more time than usual, she said, even as states ramp up machines and staff to count the vote. Election procedures and rules vary across states; there is no nationwide election body like India’s Election Commission. Election officials are preparing to see more Republicans come to vote in-person. Some experts have expressed concern that this would mean their votes would be counted first, skewing the early results. However, others like McReynolds have tempered these concerns to say that majority of states count mail-in ballots first, not last, in their tally.

Pompeo to Saudis: Normalise US duo wins Economics Nobel Israel ties

HiIndia Newsdesk US secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Wednesday urged Saudi Arabia to consider normalising relations with Israel as he met the Gulf country’s foreign minister, also saying that Washington supports a “robust programme of arms sales” to it. Pompeo said he raised the so-called Abraham Accords, a US-brokered agreement to normalise diplomatic ties with Israel, with Saudi foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud at a meeting at the US state department. “We hope Saudi Arabia will consider normalising its relationships as well, and we want to thank them for the assistance they've had in the success of the Abraham Accords so far,” Pompeo said, adding that he hopes the nation will encourage Palestinian leaders or the Palestinian Authority to return to negotiations with Israel.

HiIndia Newsdesk Americans Paul R Milgrom and Robert B Wilson have won the Nobel Prize in economics for improvements to auction theory and inventions of new auction formats. The winners were announced Monday in Stockholm by Goran Hansson, secretary-general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The award caps a week of Nobel Prizes at a time when much of the world is experiencing the worst recession since World War II because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Technically known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, the award was established in 1969 and is now widely considered one of the Nobel prizes. Last year's award went to two researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a third from Harvard University, for their groundbreaking research into efforts to reduce global poverty. The prestigious award comes with a 10-million krona (USD 1.1 million) cash prize and a gold medal.

US was beating China at a level they haven’t been beaten before: Donald Trump

Donald Trump further said everybody was coming together but “the plague” (Covid-19) came along adding that under his administration, the US is number one in terms of the economic comeback. Trump further said claimed that the United States “was beating” everybody was coming together but “the China at a level they haven’t been beaten plague” (Covid-19) came along adding that before and added that the US was overtaking under his administration, the US is number China while they weren’t even close. one in terms of the economic comeback. “We have hit the best unemployment numbers “Under my leadership, we are developing we ever had. In 2019, we became much bigger economic comeback than any other country,” and we were way overtaking them and they he said. weren’t even close,” Trump said at a rally

HiIndia Newsdesk The arrest of more than a dozen Right-wing extremists who are accused of targeting the governors of Michigan and Virginia is only the latest example of threats of violence, in some cases egged on by President Trump, that loom over the final weeks of a historically divisive race. In rural Iowa, Laura Hubka, the Democratic chair of Howard county, recently took out a concealed-carry gun permit after signs for Democratic candidates in her region were vandalised with bullet holes and she was personally threatened, she said. In central Wisconsin, Tom Stepanek’s wife sat him down last month at the kitchen table and warned him that the president might not accept a peaceful transfer of power if he lost in November. “Are you sure you want to be doing this?” she asked her husband, who is the chair of the Waushara County Democrats and had also been threatened. “You’re going to be a target here,” she told him.

Son Barron had tested positive: Melania Trump

HiIndia Newsdesk Barron Trump, the teenage son of US President Donald Trump, had contracted the coronavirus after his parents tested positive for Covid-19 but has since tested negative, First Lady Melania Trump has said. In a blog posted on the White House website, Melania said Barron, 14, exhibited no symptoms, unlike herself and the President. Trump announced that he and the First Lady had tested positive in the early-morning hours of October 1. Both have now recovered.

Trump ‘panicked’ about Covid-19, says Joe Biden HiIndia Newsdesk Former US vice president Joe Biden hit out at the Donald Trump administration saying that the president panicked about the Coronavirus outbreak in the country. “The president was informed about how dangerous this virus was. We learned that he knew well how serious it was when he did an interview with Bob Woodward and at the time he said he didn’t tell anybody because he was afraid Americans would panic--Americans don’t panic, he panicked and didn’t say a word to anybody,” Biden said during his town hall at Philadelphia. “He didn’t talk about what needed to be done because he kept worrying, in my view, about the stock market. He worried if he talked about how bad this could be, unless we took these precautionary actions, then, in fact, the market would go down. And his barometer of the success of the economy is the market,” he added. Speaking about the vaccine, he responded saying, “Trump talks about things that are not accurate.”

India News Centre does sharp "Discussions Confidential, Don't Want U-turn on GST loans To Predict": S Jaishankar On China A resolution to the situation in Ladakh - where India has been pressing for total disengagement, de-escalation and restoration of status quo ante in all areas of eastern Ladakh prior to April -- has so far proved elusive.

HiIndia Newsdesk Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has had to eat crow after all. After adopting a tough, take-it-or-lump-it stand in the face of stiff opposition from at least 10 states to the borrowing options that were placed before them to recover their legitimate GST dues, the Narendra Modi government has backed down and decided to borrow Rs 1.10 lakh crore from a special window before passing it on to the states. The sharp U-turn after more than six weeks of drama over the contentious issue that had riven the GST Council came just a few hours after Kerala finance minister Thomas Isaac said the Opposition-ruled states were planning to move the Supreme Court against the Centre’s inflexible stand and its refusal to hammer out a consensus.

Bhanu Athaiya: Costume designer who won India's first Oscar dies

The foreign ministry again issued a loud and clear message to China on Thursday.

HiIndia Newsdesk New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has said he would not wish to "predict" the outcome of the ongoing discussions between India and China regarding the border dispute at Ladakh. "The discussions are going on. It is a work in progress and the first rule of my business is - don't predict what is still going on," the minister said at the

Bloomberg India Economic Forum a day after the seventh round of commander-level talks. When pressed to respond on the issue, the minister said, "What is going on is something confidential between us and China and we will see how it plays out". A resolution to the situation in Ladakh - where India has been pressing for total disengagement, de-escalation and restoration of status quo ante in all areas of eastern Ladakh prior to April -- has so far proved elusive. China not only left the disengagement process - started after the National Security Advisor-level talks -- halfway, but also undertook provocative actions to change the status quo on ground through fresh transgressions. Not just the border area, the Chinese government had also raised objection to the inauguration of a series of bridges in Ladakh. On Thursday, the foreign ministry again issued a loud and clear message to China. "The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are, and would remain an integral part of India. China has no locus standi to comment on India's internal matters. We hope that countries will not comment on India's internal matters, as much as they expect the same of others," the ministry said.

Far ahead of rest, BJP vote share has surged since 2005

Celebrated Bollywood costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, India's first Oscar winner, has died at the age of 91, her family says. She was bedridden in recent years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012, her family said. She died peacefully in the city of Mumbai. Athaiya was renowned for designing costumes for top filmmakers in a career that spanned nearly five decades. She shared an Oscar for her work on a biopic about Mahatma Gandhi in 1983. The invitation by British filmmaker Richard Attenborough to work on the film about the Indian independence leader shot her to global prominence. She shared the award for the Best Costume Design with acclaimed British designer John Mollo. Athaiya had worked on more than 100 movies since the 1950s with noted filmmakers such as Guru Dutt, Yash Chopra and Raj Kapoor. She also worked on many Bollywood classics, including the Oscar-nominated film Lagaan in 2001. In tributes, Athaiya has been revered as a "great" of cinema fashion whose award-winning costumes "put India on the world map". Athaiya is survived by her daughter, Radhika Gupta.

Despite the Bihar split happening under the NDA at the Centre, the BJP saw the most increase — from 10.97% in 2005 (February) to 24.42% in 2015. One of the reasons was that the party contested 157 seats in 2015, against its earlier figure of 102-103 seats.

NATIONAL parties have seen a steady rise in vote share in Bihar during the last four Assembly elections — almost entirely powered by the BJP. After doubling its vote share, the BJP is now the only national party to have hit double digits in Bihar, as an analysis of election data shows. Since Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in November 2000, the state has seen four Assembly elections — February and October in 2005, 2010 and 2015. The combined vote share of the six national parties to have contested in these Bihar elections — the BJP, BSP, CPI, CPM, Congress and NCP — went up significantly from 23.57% in 2005 (February) to 35.6% in 2015. Despite the Bihar split happening under the NDA at the Centre, the BJP saw the most increase — from 10.97% in 2005 (February) to 24.42% in 2015. One of the reasons was that the party contested 157 seats in 2015, against its earlier figure of 102-103 seats. BJP has fought these elections (except 2015 Assembly polls) in alliance with JD(U). However, other parties too have been contesting more seats, mostly with decline in vote share. In fact, as is its strategy, the BSP contested the most seats (228) among the national parties in 2015, followed by the BJP (157), CPI (98), CPM (43), Congress (41) and NCP (41).

Dismay in Congress after Bihar fiasco

HiIndia Newsdesk The Congress appears to have once again pursued a self-defeatist attitude, this time while selecting candidates for the Bihar elections, triggering anger and dismay among party workers who lamented that a golden opportunity to send the BJP-JDU packing had been frittered away. Congress leaders said nepotism, networking, money and foolishness had dominated the process of ticket distribution, at time chief minister Nitish Kumar is said to be facing intense anti-incumbency and there seems to be tension in the ruling alliance.

Vivek Oberoi’s home raided in kin drug probe HiIndia Newsdesk Bangalore police on Thursday raided Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi’s residence at Mumbai in search of his brother-in-law Aditya Alva, who is wanted in a drug case, police sources here said. Aditya was absconding in a drug case registered at Cottonpet police station, Bangalore joint commissioner of police Sandeep Patil said. “Vivek Oberoi is his relative and we got some information that Alva is there.... US unveils tightened H-1B visa rules in a move to put Americans first The United States on Tuesday unveiled its new rules for H-1B visas - the immigration visas used widely by technology firms, especially to hire skilled workers from India. The new rules are much stricter and are aimed at creating more opportunities for American workers. HiIndia Newsdesk

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2020

Under the new regulations, the definition of “specialty occupation” will be narrowed by closing the overbroad definition that "allowed companies to game the system", according to the Department of Homeland Security. They will also require companies to make real offers to real employees, by closing loopholes and preventing the displacement of the American workers. And lastly, the new rules would enhance the department’s ability to enforce compliance through worksite inspections and monitor compliance before, during and after an H1-B petition is approved. As per the Department of Homeland Security, the interim final rule to be published in Federal Register will be effective in 60 days. These changes will strengthen foreign worker programmes and secure American workers’ opportunities for stable, goodpaying jobs, US Secretary of Labour Eugene Scalia said. The US Department of Labour is strengthening wage protections, addressing abuses in these visa programmes and ensuring American workers are not undercut by cheaper foreign labour, she added. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that the H-1B programme, which was intended to allow employers to fill gaps in their workforce and remain competitive in the global economy, has now expanded far beyond that, often to the detriment of US workers. They have cited data that reportedly shows that more than half-a-million H-1B nonimmigrants in the United States have been used to displace US workers. The H-1B visas for highly skilled workers allow up to 85,000 immigrants annually. The move by the Donald Trump administration is aimed at tightening immigration.

Alert over influenza Delhi next on NCB radar to launch and Covid in winter Mumbai-style crackdown on drugs

Co-infection will cause more severe pathological changes in the lungs, say researchers

HiIndia Newsdesk Seasonal influenza viruses could aggravate simultaneous Covid-19 infections and cause severe illness, Chinese researchers said on Thursday after experiments on cells and mice that they say hold lessons for the coming winter months. Virologist Ke Xu and her colleagues at Wuhan University had found influenza A virus infections enhancing the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, in laboratory cells and increasing viral loads and lung damage in mice. Health experts had been concerned about the possibility of simultaneous or “co-infections” with flu viruses and SARS-CoV-2, particularly because influenza was expected to rise during winter.

A Mumbai-style crackdown brings in an element of uncertainty for drug consumers who may not be detected when they make the purchase, but much later

HiIndia Newsdesk The Narcotics Control Bureau, which traced back the drug trail that emerged during investigations into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, and arrested nearly 20 people in Mumbai will next turn its focus on rampant drug abuse in the national capital Delhi too and other metros, a senior official of the country’s lead drug enforcement agency said. The official did not elaborate if the agency already has a lead. “ We will focus on Delhi too,” he said, suggesting that the NCB was looking at a Mumbaistyle operation that would go up the value chain

right to the cartels that supply drugs to Mumbai. Officials investigating the Mumbai case haad started with information about purchase of drugs by one person and then expanded the probe that has netted nearly 20 people including actor Rhea Chakraborty and could singe several Bollywood A-listers and politicians as investigations proceed. Such an operation also brings in an element of uncertainty for drug consumers who may not be detected when they make the purchase, but much later.

Supreme Court ultimatum on interest waiver HiIndia Newsdesk

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed a reluctant Centre to issue by November 2 the circular on compound interest waivers relating to the moratorium on loans offered by banks till August 31. The bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R. Subhash Reddy and M.R. Shah rejected solicitor-general Tushar Mehta’s plea to give the government time till November 15 for the circular as the Centre wanted to work out certain modalities for the waiver on loans up to Rs 2 crore given for homes, consumer purchases and MSMEs. “Why one month time (till November 15) to implement such a small decision? Not fair on the part of the central government,” the bench observed while adjourning the matter to November 2. By that time, the court said the

Domestic stock markets suffered their worst day in three weeks on Thursday with benchmark indices snapping a rally that lasted 10 straight days, as a record number of new COVID-19 infections in parts of Europe spooked investors across the globe. The Sensex index dropped 1,097.98 points - or 2.69 per cent - to 39,696.76 at the weakest level during the session, and the broader Nifty benchmark dropped to as low as 11,666.30, down 304.75 points - or 2.55 per cent - from its previous close. Analysts say fears of a second wave of infections hurt world markets.

government must issue the circular to give effect to the waiver. “… See the plight of common people, when you’ve already decided to help…their Diwali is in your hands, Mr Mehta…” the bench told the solicitor-general while passing the direction. The solicitor-general pleaded the court not to make “any harsh observations.” “We don’t stand to gain by delaying

things unnecessarily,” Mehta said. The court was dealing with a batch of petitions challenging the decision of banks to levy compound interest on all loans on which the moratorium was announced by the RBI to overcome the pandemic crisis. Senior advocate Rajiv Datta appearing for Gajendra Sharma, the main petitioner in the case, complained that several banks had already started levying compound interests on customers. However, senior advocate Harish Salve appearing for the banks assured the court that any such interest levied by the banks would be reversed once the government and the RBI issue the necessary circulars as directed by the court. The Centre and the RBI had earlier argued any blanket waiver of interest on all sectors as sought by the petitioners was unviable and would lead to the collapse of the entire banking industry.

HiIndia Newsdesk Fifteen people have died in Hyderabad in rain related incidents, following incessant rainfall that lashed the city and different parts of Telangana, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas. The deaths were reported since Tuesday night as downpour triggered wall and house collapse in different places here, officials said. The state government has declared a holiday on Wednesday and Thursday for all private institutions, offices, non- essential services within Outer Ring Road here in view of rains. During a press interaction, Trudeau said Canada will “remain absolutely committed to working with our allies to ensure that China’s approach of coercive diplomacy, its arbitrary detention of two Canadian citizens alongside other citizens of other countries around the world is not viewed as a successful tactic by them.” According to local media reports, Trudeau also expressed concern over the protection of human rights in Hong Kong as well that of the Uighur minority in China.

Mehbooba Mufti, one of the three former chief ministers jailed last year ahead of the scrapping of Article 370, was freed on Tuesday night after 14 months in captivity. Covid eats into India’s workforce

HiIndia Newsdesk Nearly half of India’s 1,09,000 coronavirus disease deaths have occurred among patients younger than 60 years, according to data released by the Union health ministry on Tuesday that also show over 1,000 deaths

The UP government had expressed willingness before the top court to refer the investigation to the CBI on the ground that fake narratives were being spread about the case with political motives.

MS Dhoni’s Animated Reaction Leads To Umpire Changing His Decision.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got back to winning ways as they secured a comfortable 20-run win over SunRisers Hyd e r ab a d ( SR H ) on Tuesday in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match at the Dubai International Stadium. CSK posted a competitive total of 167 for six. Chasing 168 for the win, despite a gritty half-century from Kane Williamson, SRH fell 20 runs short of the target. In the 19th over of SRH’s innings, MS Dhoni’s animated reaction from behind the stumps lead to umpire Paul Reiffel to change his decision midway. Shardul Thakur had bowled a wide yorker to Rashid

Khan and the umpire looked like he was about to stretch his arms to signal a wide but then an animated reaction from the former India captain led to Reiffel change his mind and stop the decision midway. SRH captain David Warner, sitting in the dug out, didn’t seem too pleased with the final decision. In the match, MS Dhoni had won the toss and opted to bat. Sam Curran, coming in as an opening batsman, smashed 31 runs off 21 balls to give CSK a flying start. Shane Watson top-scored with a knock of 42 while Ambati Rayudu supported the Australian with a 34-ball 41.

London, Essex, York and other areas moving to Tier 2

HiIndia Newsdesk Millions of people in London, Essex, York and other areas face tougher Tier 2 Covid measures from Saturday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said. Under this "high" alert level, there is a ban on households mixing indoors, including in pubs and restaurants. Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is resisting the region moving to Tier 3, ahead of a final decision on this. More than half of England's population will now be living under high or very high-alert restrictions. The areas to go into high alert restrictions this weekend are: London, Essex (apart from Southend and Thurrock), York, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Erewash in Derbyshire, Elmbridge in Surrey, and Barrow in Furness, Cumbria. As unitary authorities, Southend and Thurrock councils are not included in the move and will remain in Tier 1, Essex County Council has said. The health secretary said "things will get worse before they get better". "Now, I know that these measures are not easy but I also know that they are vital," Mr Hancock told MPs. "Responding to this unprecedented pandemic requires difficult choices, some of the most difficult choices any government has to make in peacetime."

B Vivek, a cousin, told indianexpress.com that Krishna woke up in the morning as usual, had a bath and a cup of tea, and then collapsed on the ground. “He had slipped into depression after hearing about Trump contracting coronavirus. He was not eating properly. When we rushed him to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead. The cause of death is a cardiac arrest,” he said.

HiIndia Newsdesk Engineer couple Preetha and Manikandan, who work in top IT firms in Chennai, developed an interest in preserving native breeds of cattle during the Jallikattu protests in Tamil Nadu in 2017. “We had no plan (to raise cows) ever, it just happened. Both of us share a common interest in agriculture though we only have basic knowledge about it. During the Jallikattu protests, we became curious about the native cattle breeds. We travelled all the way to Erode to see ‘Kangeyam Kaalai’, a native cattle breed. Without a second thought, we bought a cow there. Owing to lack of space at our residence in Adambakkam, we tied it in our garage, which is around 500 square feet in area.” With no knowledge about milking cattle, their food or medicines, what followed was multiple visits to various cattle sheds — gaushalas — to understand the entire process of maintaining cows. The couple don’t have a brand name yet, no signboard outside their house, or a website. They don’t deliver to shops or agencies but have customers from among their neighbours and various parts of the city. They all reached them through word-of-mouth. “Our customers are all happy with our products. . Most of my customers say kids in their house do not like milk from shops. We don’t deliver to any shops or other agencies; we have direct contact with the customers. They are asking us to expand our business in areas like Nungambakkam and Arumbakkam.”

Neetu Kapoor Rehearses To Ghagra Song

Neetu Kapoor found a spot on the trends' list recently, all thanks to a video of hers dancing to the song Ghagra. The video was recently shared on Instagram by choreographer Rajendra Singh, who is primarily known for choreographing sangeet performances for celeb weddings. The video of Neetu Kapoor rehearsing to the song prompted netizens to enquire if she's already prepping for her son Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's much anticipated wedding. Alia and Ranbir, who have been dating for quite some time now, often feature in speculative reports about a possible wedding. Neither Alia or Ranbir have responded to the rumours so far. Meanwhile on the Instagram video, comments such as these poured in: "Alia-Ranbir wedding?", "Is it one of the dances for Ranbir's wedding?" and "You have to dance at Alia-Ranbir's wedding."

Neetu Kapoor's video was recently shared on Instagram by choreographer Rajendra Singh, who is primarily known for choreographing sangeet performances for celeb weddings

Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira has said that she is suffering from clinical depression. “A lot has been going on, a lot of people have a lot to say. Things are really confusing and stressful and simple and okay but not okay and… life all together. There’s no way to say it all in one go. But I’d like to think I’ve figured some stuff out, or at least figured out how to make it slightly more understandable. About mental health and mental ill-health. So come with me on this journey… in my awkward, quirky, sometimes-baby-voice-y, as-honestas-I-can-be… way. Let’s start a conversation. Happy World Mental Health Day.”

Akshay Kumar promises scares and laughs in equal measure The trailer shows Akshay Kumar’s character getting possessed by the spirit of a woman, and he then starts acting like one since his body is under her control. While the film is trying to create the mood for a horror-comedy, it reminds us of old Hindi movies where the transgender community was represented in quite a stereotypical way. It is yet to be seen if Laxmmi Bomb will avoid those clichés and tell a story that’s sensitive to all genders concerned.

Film producers move Delhi HC to restrain channels

Scam 1992 is the biggest milestone in my career: Pratik Gandhi

Hansal Mehta directorial Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story is set in 1980s and 90s Bombay. The 10-episode series follows the life of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker who single-handedly took the stock market to dizzying heights and his catastrophic downfall. While Pratik Gandhi essays Harshad, Shreya Dhanwanthary is seen playing the journalist who investigated and reported the scam. A popular name in the Gujarati theatre circuit, Pratik is quite kicked about the show, which he calls the biggest milestone in his career. In an exclusive chat the Wrong Side Raju actor shared that the nervousness and excitement makes him feel as if he is waiting for his board exam results. Gandhi also spoke about Scam 1992, becoming Harshad Mehta and his expectations from the series.

Tell us more about your Scam 1992 journey and becoming Harshad Mehta.

I was doing a lot of theatre and even Gujarati films. While I was shooting for a film in 2018, I received a call from Hansal Mehta. He asked me to meet him for this project. Honestly, I was completely taken aback, and for 48 hours, I didn’t even know how to react. But I was really happy and was waiting to finish my shoot so that I could meet him. I had to go through multiple auditions, and then Hansal asked me if I would like to do the show. And my only answer was a big yes. That’s how it all started, and then last year around July-August, we started shooting.

Sara Gurpal gets eliminated Tom Parker diagnosed with from Bigg Boss Season 14 terminal brain tumour

Punjab’s Sara Gurpal became the first contestant to get eliminated from Bigg Boss 14. The model-actor-singer was chosen as the weakest housemate by ‘Toofani Seniors’ Hina Khan, Sidharth Shukla and Gauahar Khan. Apart from Gurpal, others nominated by housemates were Nishant Singh Malkani, Rahul Vaidya, Abhinav Shukla, Eijaz Khan, Shehzad Deol and Jaan Kumar Sanu. While initially the seniors debated between Malkani and Vaidya, they finally picked Gurpal as the contestant who will leave the show. Sara Gurpal’s short journey in Bigg Boss 14 house was rather uneventful. While during the premiere, Malkani and Deol tried their best to woo her, Gurpal was shocked when the seniors rejected her for the house. Once in the house, she did try her best to win their hearts by even getting her hair cut for a task, but they did not seem to be impressed.

Singer Tom Parker, best known for being the lead vocalist of the British-Irish boy band The Wanted, on Monday revealed that he has been diagnosed with a grade four glioblastoma tumour and is undergoing treatment. The 32-year-old musician shared the news with Britain’s OK! Magazine, saying his doctors described the tumour as a “worst-case scenario” and informed him that it was terminal. Tom Parker, who announced earlier this year that he and his wife are expecting their second child, later took to Instagram to address his fans.

Bollywood's civil suit against the news channels has sought to restrain these media houses from conducting media trials of Bollywood personalities and interfering with their right to privacy. Thirty-four production houses in Bollywood are represented through the plaintiffs, besides four industry associations -- Producers Guild of India, Cine and TV Artiste Association, Film and TV Producers Council, and Screenwriters Association. Kangana Ranaut lashes out at Bollywood civil suit against 'defamatory' reporting Actress Kangana Ranaut has expressed disappointment after top Bollywood production houses and associations filed a suit in Delhi High Court against certain news channels for defaming the industry. Kangana tweeted to express her rant against her Bollywood colleagues and claimed she would expose them. "Their is an unwritten law in the film industry 'you hide my dirty secrets I will hide yours' the only basis of their loyalty to each other. Since I am born I am seeing only these handful of men from the film families run the industry. When will this change? #BollywoodStrikesBack. Bullywood the gutter of drugs, exploitation, nepotism and jihad it's lid is off instead of cleaning this gutter #BollywoodStrikesBack well file a case on me also, till the time I am alive I will continue to expose you all #BollywoodStrikesBack," she tweeted. She also mentioned how the industry, especially the big heroes, exploited the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. "Big

heros not only objectify women but also exploit young girls, they don't let young men like Sushant Singh Rajput come up, at the age of 50 they want to play school kids, they never stand up for anyone even if people are being wronged before their eyes #Bollywood StrikesBack," Kangana added, posting a picture of Sushant. "Bollywood ke gatar me rengne walo ko ab pata chala kaisa lagta hai jab sare desh ke saamne beizzat kiya jata hai. Nishana banaya jata hai. Isolate kiya jata hai. Kyu kahi chup ya bhaag jane ka man kar rha hai? Tum isne sare bhedio ho jhund me, akele ka man to karega ki mar jaye, nahi ? (Those who crawl in the gutters of Bollywood now know what it feels like when you are insulted and targeted in front of the whole country. Why do you feel like hiding or running away? You are wolves in a pack, the feeling of being alone will die, right?#BollywoodStrikesBack)," she continued.

Meghan Markle Says She Taapsee Pannu To Sonam Kapoor: These Was The "Most Trolled Person" Of 2019 Celebrity Vacation Pics May Give You Major FOMO

Meghan Markle has spoken about being "the most trolled person in the entire world in 2019." The Duchess of Sussex opened up about the "damaging" effect the trolling had on her mental and emotional health in a podcast recorded for World Mental Health Day. Meghan was joined by her husband Prince Harry as she spoke to "Teenager Therapy" - a podcast on mental health awareness. During the chat with the podcast's three teenaged hosts, Meghan, 39, said that dealing with fake news and trolling was "almost unsurvivable." "I'm told that in 2019, I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female," she shared. "Now, eight months of that, I wasn't even visible. I was on maternity leave with the baby. But what was able to just be manufactured and just churned out, it's almost unsurvivable. "That's so big you can't even think about what that feels like because I don't care if you're 15 or 25 if people are saying things about you that aren't true what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging." During the chat, she also addressed the viral moment from 2019 when she got emotional during an interview with ITV News and said that "not many people have asked if I'm OK."

The adorable Le Chiquito handbag became the talk of the town and talking point among celebrities and meme pages. It probably couldn't fit anything but it was one everyone wanted to be seen with and to carry because suddenly a statement bag didn't mean it had to fit in every possible thing in your house. A cutout maxi dress that looks this good should be illegal. Mouni Roy's Maldives holiday was nothing short of stylish and exotic and thanks to her we probably have all the style inspo we need for our next beach vacation. If looking this good in a maxi dress was possible for us mere mortals, we'd never wear anything other than a maxi dress. Printed maxi dresses are a must have when off to a beach holiday and it only gets better if it is also a cutout one. Alright maybe there are few but knowing you look stylish enough to face your problems is still motivation, right? Mouni Roy shows us that a little black dress is not just for a night out party but if it is as stylish as this off-shoulder one then it could look chic during the day as well and should totally be part of your beach holiday wardrobe. But when it comes to a beach holiday are you even doing it right if not for your favourite swimsuit? Mouni Roy sure stuns in her never ending collection of bikinis when she is at her beach holiday. Whatever is stopping you from expanding your collection needs to stop right about now.

Decadent coffee rasmalai

International Coffee Day, which is observed on October 1 every year, was first started in Milan where people on this day promoted to not only talk about the irregularities and complexities faced by coffee plantation workers but also called for this day to shed light upon the fair trade of coffee. However, this day is also a celebration of one’s everlasting love for the beverage, and that’s why here’s a quirky dessert recipe by Chef Karann Talwar, managing director and the gastronome chef of Kitchen Kraft Luxury Catering.

Ingredients 300 g – Chenna or cheese curd 2.5 kg – Sugar 2.5 litres – Water 25 gms – Reetha or Indian soapberry

1litre – Milk 1 tsp – Coffee powder ½ tsp – Rongalite or rangkat

Steps * In a muslin cloth, take the chenna and wrap it up. Then squeeze it to take out the water and keep aside. * In a thick bottom pan, add at least 1.5 litres of water, reetha and rangkat. Heat and keep stirring until the sugar syrup is made. * Now in a different pan, heat up another litre of water and add the sugar syrup you just made. Make sure you add two ladles of the same. * Now make chena balls and add it into the pan filled with sugar syrup and let it cook for at least 10 minutes. * Once done, transfer these balls into another pan which has water with 2 ladles of sugar syrup. * Finally, boil milk and add coffee powder. Stir and then set it aside to cool down. Dip the chenna balls into the milk boiled with coffee. * This recipe allows you to make at least 6 ras malai. Serve them cold with pistachio garnishing.

Eye in a storm K

Our reliance on screens during the lockdown is leading to digital eye strain and related problems

eeping an eye on the health of one’s eyes has always been a concern, especially since gadgets and increased screen time became an inseparable part of our lives. And with the Covid-19 crisis, the problem only seems to have aggravated. Be it in the form of work-from-home, online classes, catching up with friends and relatives virtually, binge-watching shows and movies, or just scrolling absent-mindedly, people are spending most of their time glued to a laptop, tab, TV or mobile phone screen. An excess of screen time usually tires our eyes to the maximum extent — not to forget prolonged exposure to harmful high energy blue light from the gadgets. Apart from red eyes, puffiness and dark circles, people are also facing blurred vision, watery eyes, eye pain, discomfort, fatigue, dryness and headaches. With no chance of going out or playing with neighbours, screen time for children is also on

the rise. “Young patients are experiencing digital eye strain from long periods on a computer, laptop or smartphone leading to fatigue and dryness. Elderly patients are also having eye issues due to prolonged use of screens as they try

Currently, it is the season of allergic conjunctivitis. More patients are coming with conjunctivitis, and this may be due to Covid-19 or allergies. Wearing appropriate spectacles when using computer screens is also important. Make sure your prescription is up-to-date. For this, an annual eye check-up is essential. Indian American Woman Sentenced to 15-plus Years for Human Trafficking BY A STAFF WRITER STOCKTON, CA- The U.S. Department of Justice Oct. 5 announced that Sharmistha Barai was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison for forced labor violations. Barai, 40, formerly of Stockton, California, was sentenced Oct. 2, the Justice Department said. On March 14, 2019, after an 11day trial, a federal jury found Barai and her husband, Satish Kartan, guilty of conspiracy to obtain forced labor and two counts of obtaining forced labor. Kartan is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 22. According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, between February 2014 and October 2016, the Indian American couple hired workers from overseas to perform domestic labor in their home in Stockton. In advertisements seeking workers on the internet and India-based newspapers, the defendants made false claims about the wages and conditions of employment.

Once the workers arrived at the defendants’ Stockton residence, Kartan and Barai compelled them to work up to 18 hours a day with limited rest and nourishment, the documents said. Few of them were paid any wage. The defendants kept the domestic workers from leaving and coercaed them to

continue working by threatening them, by creating an atmosphere of fear, control, and disempowerment, and at times by physically hitting or burning them, it added. When a victim resisted or expressed a desire to leave, the threats and abuse became worse, the release said.

USCIS Updates Policy Guidance Regarding Temporary Protected Status and Eligibility for Adjustment of Status USCIS NEWS RELEASE WASHINGTON, DC- USCIS today issued policy guidance in the USCIS Policy Manual clarifying whether temporary protected status (TPS) beneficiaries are eligible for adjustment of status under section 245(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). INA 245(a) requires an alien to have been inspected and admitted or inspected and paroled into the United States, unless exempt from this requirement. The updated guidance reaffirms USCIS’ long-standing interpretation that an alien who enters the United States without having been inspected and admitted or inspected and paroled, and

who is subsequently granted TPS, generally does not meet that requirement. The updated guidance also incorporates Matter of Z-R-Z-C-, which held that

generally TPS beneficiaries who travel outside the United States with prior authorization under INA 244(f )(3) retain the same status when they return to the United States that they had when they departed. If they were not considered inspected and admitted or inspected and paroled before their departure, that will not change when they return. This updated policy guidance clarifies that decisions in the Sixth and Ninth Circuits holding that TPS is an admission for INA 245(a) purposes are limited to those jurisdictions. Outside of the Sixth and Ninth Circuits, Matter of H-G-G-, 27 I. & N. Dec. 617, 635 (AAO 2019), applies.

Postal Carrier Suspended After Mail is Found in Trash in PA BY A STAFF WRITER PITTBURGH, PA -A mail carrier has been placed on unpaid leave after federal agents found mail in a trash can that was supposed to be delivered to homes and businesses in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood. The items the carrier allegedly tossed away included “several different classes of mail, including one ballot request and about two dozen political advertisements,” according to Special Agent Scott Balfour of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. “The mail was intended for delivery in the Bloomfield area of Pittsburgh, and was already returned to the USPS and delivered to customers,” Balfour said in a statement. Postal agents were contacted after the mail was discovered in a trash can at the Persad Center along Butler Street in Lawrenceville. Carlos Torres, the interim executive director of the Persad Center, said the discarded mail was found by the facility’s manager. “Our manager looked into the trash can outside the building’s main entrance and saw mail that had not been delivered,” Torres said. “None of the mail in the trash belonged to us, so we left it alone so we didn’t damage any evidence.”

Postal Carrier caught on security camera

Torres said the security cameras at his facility show the postal worker, over the course of several days, delivering mail to Persad and then going to his vehicle to retrieve items that were discarded in the trash can. Postal officials have not released the name of the carrier who is being investigated but said he worked out of the Mount Oliver post office before being suspended without pay. While Balfour declined to identify the carrier, he said special agents on Sunday responded to a report of undelivered mail

at a home in Baldwin. The agents recovered several trash bags filled with mail set out at the curb for pickup, he said. None of the discarded mail were ballot requests or other election material. “We expect to perform a piece count of the mail … and make arrangements to have the mail delivered to customers as soon as feasible,” Balfour said. The case will be turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution once the postal service completes its investigation, Balfour said.

FDA Warns Dietary Supplement Companies Illegally Selling Products Containing Cesium Chloride FDA NEWS RELEASE WASHINGTON, DC -The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today posted five warning letters issued to companies marketing dietary supplements containing cesium chloride. In a February 2020 public health alert, the FDA warned consumers and health care professionals to avoid using dietary supplements containing cesium salts, primarily cesium chloride. In July 2018, the FDA alerted health care professionals of significant safety risks associated with cesium chloride in compounded drugs. Cesium chloride is sometimes promoted as an alternative treatment for cancer; however, no cesium-chloride-containing products have been approved by the FDA to treat cancer or any other disease. Cesium chloride is a new dietary ingredient that has not previously been present in the food supply in a non-chemically altered form. Therefore, firms must provide certain safetyrelated information about the ingredient to the FDA before including it in a dietary supplement. Companies marketing these products have not met this requirement, and as a result, their products cannot be legally marketed.

The warning letters were issued to: American Nutriceuticals, LLC, Complete H2O Minerals, Inc., Daily Manufacturing, Inc., Elemental Research, Inc. and The Mineral Store, Inc., Essence-of-Life, LLC “The FDA will continue to take action against dietary supplements that contain cesium chloride because of significant safety concerns— including heart toxicity and potential death— associated with this ingredient,” said Steven Tave, Director of the Office of Dietary Supplement Programs in the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. “We take very seriously our role to protect the public from dangerous dietary supplements.”

If consumers believe that a product might have caused a reaction or illness, they should immediately stop using the product, contact their health care provider, and submit a complaint to the FDA using MedWatch or the Safety Reporting Portal. The FDA has requested responses from the companies within 15 working days stating how they will correct the violations. Failure to correct the violations promptly – or provide reasoning and supporting information as to why the products are not in violation of the law – may result in legal action, including product seizure and/or injunction. The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices. The agency also is responsible for the safety and security of our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, products that give off electronic radiation, and for regulating tobacco products.

FDA Reaffirms Commitment to Safety, Security of its Public Health Laboratories FDA NEWS RELEASE WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s mission to protect and promote public health by ensuring the safety of the nation’s food supply, as well as the safety and efficacy of medical products, has always relied on a rigorous analysis of the scientific data available and a strong commitment to safety. We are dedicated to helping ensure the safety of the American public through our work and the safety of all of our staff by continuing to support and strengthen a culture that prioritizes workplace safety. FDA staff across the nation work diligently to help ensure the safety of FDA-regulated products. I’ve seen this same dedication in their shared commitment to protecting each other and prioritizing safety across the agency, including our laboratories across the country. As we work together to build upon our strong safety charge, I’ve recently stood up a new crossagency working group with support from the FDA’s senior leadership to optimize and further foster a holistic, cohesive, and collaborative safety culture. As part of their charge, the group will review our current organization structure and reporting relationships that support our safety program. This working group will explore best practices and incorporate and leverage the expertise of the existing safety councils within our agency to optimize ongoing efforts. The group will focus broadly on several areas in the safety space to include occupational safety and health, environmental safety, and laboratory safety; and will look to best practices in industry to determine if they can complement our regulatory organization. This effort is meant to strengthen the already robust safety measures that staff and senior leadership have implemented. I look forward to continuing my work with the FDA’s senior leadership to bolster an already strong culture of safety and security within the agency. As part of this broader safety effort, this new working group will also work to support ongoing safety initiatives at the FDA’s laboratories. We are committed to ensuring laboratory safety to

Office (GAO) issued several recommendations in a report to the FDA surrounding laboratory safety. We plan to use the input from this GAO study, along with the results of a multi-phase effort led by the agency’s Office of Planning and Evaluation, to update the current OLS Strategic Plan, which will further ensure the success of a strong laboratory safety program. Assessing and revising that plan is a key component to assuring continuous improvements and operational efficiency in FDA laboratory safety. protect our personnel and their research. To accomplish this important task, each center and office will continue to work collaboratively with the FDA’s Office of Laboratory Safety (OLS) to safeguard strong laboratory safety and security, and other laboratory-related environmental and occupational safety and health programs. This structure helps to leverage knowledge and experience from different laboratories, centers and offices at the agency to identify areas across the FDA that may benefit from agency-wide safety updates. It also creates a flexible model that can be adapted to reflect the diversity of research programs and potential hazards and risks that may be unique to specific programs or centers. Work carried out by the FDA experts at these laboratories is integral in informing regulatory decision-making and policy development, as well as in supporting efforts to help facilitate the development and availability of innovative, safe and effective medical products and a safe food supply. The FDA’s laboratories house more than 2,500 researchers and analysts, whose work contributes to the development of new approaches, standards, and methods for evaluating the safety, efficacy, quality, and performance of the diverse and complex products we regulate. Across the FDA, laboratory facilities help advance the work that we do to support our regulatory mission, from facilitating development of safe and effective medical and veterinary products to helping ensure the safety of the American food supply. Recently, the Government Accountability

The OLS Strategic Plan includes an iterative process to help ensure that laboratory work processes and roles are reviewed, improved and revised as needed to ensure that the agency continues to stand ready to address public health challenges. Throughout the past months, as our agency has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have seen the pivotal role many of our laboratories have played in responding, and I’m committed to ensuring that our laboratories continue to have the full support of FDA leadership to maintain this high level of excellence. Safety and a commitment to scientific excellence remain at the core of the FDA’s mission and guide our work at our scientific research and analytical facilities and across all of our programs. All of the FDA’s leadership, scientists and staff continue to demonstrate their full dedication to a safe and secure work culture and environment. I look forward to building upon this strong foundation as we consider ways to enhance and support the importance of safety at our agency.

Agents discovered two illegal aliens inside locked trunk of a smuggling vehicle

CBP NEWS RELEASE TUCSON, AZ – U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered two illegal immigrants locked in a vehicle’s trunk during an immigration inspection stop near Lukeville, Arizona, Monday night. Around 6:30 p.m., Tucson Sector agents with a Border Patrol canine conducted a stop on a Dodge Challenger driving north on State Route 85. Following the canine’s alert, agents opened the trunk and discovered two men crammed inside. Agents discovered two illegal aliens inside of the trunk of a smuggling vehicle Agents immediately provided the men with face masks and placed them in an air-conditioned patrol vehicle. The outside temperature at the time was near 100 degrees. The U.S. citizen driver was arrested on federal human smuggling charges. The two men, both Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States, were expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority. Tucson Sector agents continue to encounter smugglers dangerously treating humans as cargo. Smugglers risk the lives of vulnerable people without regard for their health or safety, putting profit over human life.

Introducing the United for Peace Coalition, Shalini Gupta President of United for Peace said- “We work with all peace and interfaith organizations because if our mission is the same, we are stronger together. We want the collective voice for peace to be louder and stronger than the lobby for hate, guns and war machinery.” Regina Brent of Unity Partnership explained how MLK drew inspiration from Gandhi, and the role of nonviolence in the fight for racial justice. Maria Pike Board member of Everytown for Gun Safety, Chicago Survivors, Moms Demand Action talked about the violence that took her son’s life and continues to take lives of so many young people in Chicago. “Two families were destroyed-The shooter is in jail and I live in the jail of my daily grief”. Faith leaders from Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths talked about the role of nonviolence in their religions. Pastor Moses from Hope Presbyterian Church, Wheaton opened the program singing the song- “All we need is love”. Debra Scarlett Parks closed the program, enthralling the audience with her songs- “Just Right” and “We Shall Overcome”.

BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK , NY — Fewer and fewer New York City parents want their children to be part of the city’s ambitious school reopening plan. Fully remote students now account for 50.2 percent of all enrollment citywide, according to Department of Education numbers released Monday. Roughly 504,000 students — or their parents for them — opted to attend classes from home during the coronavirus pandemic. When Phoebe received multiple notifications from her Ring Video Doorbell and Floodlight Cam, she immediately opened the Live View on her Ring App just in time to protect her home. The number started at 305,000 in August, or roughly 30 percent of enrollment. But it ticked up week by week as students left the school system’s blended learning model of alternating in-person and remote learning days.

Razer’s newest Blade Stealth 13

R

11th Gen Intel chips and an OLED screen option

azer’s Blade Stealth 13 is one of the best portable gaming laptops you can buy. Today, the company is giving it a refresh: it just announced a “late 2020” model of its 13-inch rig. The only really big change from the Blade Stealth 13 that came out earlier this year seems to be the processor. The upcoming Blade is powered by a chip from Intel’s newest generation, the Core i71165G7. That comes with a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of (upgradeable) storage. Razer claims that it’s “up to 2.7 times” faster in content creation and “more than 20 percent faster” in office productivity than the previous generation. The other noteworthy change is that there’s now an FHD OLED touchscreen option, which Razer says will cover 100 percent of the DCI-P3 space. (This would be for content creators who need accurate colors, rather than anyone who wants to play serious games.) Like its predecessor, this Blade can also come with 120Hz FHD non-touch panel — the highest refresh rate you can get on a 13-inch laptop. Razer says you’ll see an upgrade in audio quality. The previous Blade Stealth 13 has decent audio, but I found that it lacked strong bass in our testing. The new Blade comes with a new audio

Fiido D11 folding electric bike

P

rior to the D11, Fiido bikes were difficult to get outside of China. But the company recently setup international operations so that buyers wouldn’t have to pay expensive import duties that could easily add a few hundred dollars to Fiido’s budget e-bike prices. It should also help get parts to Fiido bikes in Europe and North America more quickly when they need service... and they likely will based on my testing (more on that later). Unboxing a direct-to-consumer e-bike that’s only been viewed on the two-dimensional pages of Indiegogo sets the mood for everything that comes after. The Fiido experience started off well enough: I was surprised by how tiny the D11 box was upon delivery. It’s especially small compared to the full-size e-bikes I usually receive. Opening it up, however, revealed a box full of haphazardly packed foam and other environmentally damaging materials that immediately sullied my already tempered expectations. Freed from the shackles of polystyrene garbage and a dozen or so tie-wraps, I was immediately stumped by how to raise the handlebar stem. The English assembly instructions are meager at best, and following them sequentially would have snapped a brake cable. Fortunately, I noticed that the handlebar had rotated en route (or at packing), causing the brake line to pull taut. Rolling it back into position with a flip of the quick release latch created enough slack in the line to smoothly raise the handlebar into place. Next, I attached the pedals and tightened everything up. Then I charged the battery.

app from THX that allows you to toggle preset audio profiles for different scenarios (movies, gaming, music, etc.) or to create your own. Many laptops have audio options like this, and effectiveness can certainly vary, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it sounds for myself later this year.

Gaming Chair is a curvier Secretlab Omega / Titan with fancy lumbar support You can compare the design, the recline mechanism, the stitching — heck, just look at those nighidentical 4D armrests below — and the inspiration is plainly clear. And yet Razer explicitly tells The Verge it’s not a collaboration with Secretlab, saying the chair was “designed and developed in-house. Razer is clearly pitching the Iskur as a step ahead of Secretlab in terms of spinal support, as you can see in this thinly veiled comparison image: Aside from being a distinct hybrid of the Secretlab Omega’s smaller bucket seat and the Titan’s larger, more accommodating frame (the Iskur supports gamers up to nearly 300 pounds and 6.2 feet tall), the biggest differences here are a curvier

back and the large adjustable lumbar support. It’s true that the Omega’s removable pillow and the Titan’s internal adjustable lumbar haven’t exactly gotten rave reviews. We’re curious if the Iskur’s jut-out-at-an-angle lumbar pad, which looks a bit like a snake’s belly, will be better: That said, plenty of gamers swear by Secretlab’s chairs for back support with or without the lumbar — mine was great for my back, but I sold it because of a sore butt. The Omega and Titan have another thing going for them, too: you can easily buy one that isn’t quite so garish and doesn’t come embroidered with a company’s trademarked slogan.

iPhone 12 helps Apple come up to speed with 5G

iPhone 12 series announced at Apple Event: Apple has reiterated that the iPhone, with no suffix, is the base model now for the company.

pple Event 2020: The unprecedented second Apple Event ushered in the iPhone 12 series, Cupertino’s first 5G phones, coming at least a couple of years after Samsung launched its first device running on the next generation telecom technology. But then Apple is going the whole hog with 5G, with all the four phones featuring the new technology that will run on over 100 networks across the world, India not included. In the virtual event beamed from the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park, CEO Tim Cook introduced Apple’s first 5G phone, the iPhone 12, with a 6.1-inch screen. The phone is thinner, lighter and smaller than ever before. By the end of the event, Apple has reiterated that the iPhone, with no suffix, is the base model now for the company.
