WASHINGTON: (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden aims to herald the start of a stronger U.S.-Indian relationship on Thursday by announcing a series of defense and trade agreements with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Washington attempts to counter China's global influence.
Biden is rolling out the red carpet for Modi, treating him to a colorful White House South Lawn arrival ceremony on Thursday morning followed by Oval Office talks and a glittering state dinner in the evening. The two leaders held a private, intimate dinner at the White House on
Wednesday night. In a rare gesture, Modi has agreed to take questions from reporters with Biden at the White House on Thursday. He has not conducted a news conference since becoming prime minister nine years ago. Washington wants India to be a strategic counterweight to China and sees India as a critical partnership. Modi is seeking to raise the influence that India, the world's most populous country at 1.4 billion, has on the world stage in the wake of strained ties with neighboring China. Senior Biden administration officials said the sweeping agreements to be announced on semiconductors, critical minerals, technology, space cooperation and defense cooperation and sales will ring in a new era in relations between the two countries. Some of the deals are aimed at diversifying supply chains to reduce dependence on China. The United States has also sought to address China's rising influence in the Indo-Pacific region by bolstering defense ties with countries like India and Australia.
senior officials caught US announces new visa restriction policy U.S. off-guard by Biden's for those who have assisted fugitives calling Xi a 'dictator'
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON: - The U.S. State Department on Wednesday announced a new visa restriction policy targeting foreign government officials and agents who assist fugitives in evading the U.S.
justice system. The Fallon Smart policy is named after a 15-year-old who was killed in a hitand-run incident in Oregon in 2016, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in the statement, adding that the foreign national accused of causing Smart's death fled the United States to avoid being tried for manslaughter. "The Department of State is committed to deterring and promoting accountability for extraordinary foreign government involvement in aiding fugitives to evade the U.S. justice system," Blinken said in the statement. The Oregonian newspaper reported in 2018 that the man accused in Smart's death, a Saudi Arabian national, likely fled the country with the assistance of the Saudi government.

The decision was made in response to the "politically motivated" sanctions imposed by Australian authorities against Russian individuals and entities, the Ministry added on Wednesday. An Australian cyber regulator on Thursday said it has demanded Twitter explain its handling of online hate as the microblog has become the country's most complained-about platform since new owner Elon Musk lifted bans on a reported 62,000 accounts. The demand builds on a campaign by the eSafety Commissioner to make the
website more accountable after Musk, one of the world's richest people, bought it for $44 billion in October with a promise to restore its commitment to free speech. The regulator has already called on Twitter to detail its handling of online child abuse material which it said has picked up on the website since Musk's takeover and subsequent job losses, including content moderation roles. Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said she has sent a legal notice to Twitter demanding an explanation after one-third of all complaints she received about online hate concerned Twitter, even though the platform has far fewer users than TikTok or Meta's Facebook and Instagram.

Modi and Biden to Address Media Queries: White House Calls it a ‘Big Deal
Biden Eases Visas for Skilled Indian Workers During Modi’s US Visit HiIndia Newsdesk
HiIndia Newsdesk
Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden will be taking questions from the press on Thursday, the White House has confirmed, terming it a “big deal”. John Kirby, the White House’s national security spokesperson, said, “We are just grateful that Prime Minister Modi is participating in a press event at the end of the visit. We think that’s important and we’re glad he thinks that’s important too.” The format of the press conference will include one question from the US press and one from an Indian journalist, Kirby said. Prime Minister Modi has not addressed any press meet since he came to power in 2014. He has mostly taken media questions in one-on-one interviews.
The Biden administration will make it easier for Indians to live and work in the United States, using this week’s state visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help some skilled workers enter or remain in the country, according to three people familiar with the matter. The State Department could announce as soon as Thursday that a small number of Indians and other foreign workers on H-1B visas will be able to renew those visas in the US, without having to travel abroad, one of the sources said, part of a pilot program that could be expanded in coming years. Indian citizens are by far the most active users of the US H-1B program and made up 73 per cent of the nearly 442,000 H-1B workers in fiscal year 2022. “We all recognize that mobility of our people is a huge asset to us,” said another US official. “And so our goal is to approach that in a sort of multifaceted way. The State Department already has been working very hard to find creative

number of cases with the intention to scale the initiative over the following one to two years,” the spokesperson said, while declining to define small. ADVERTISEMENT The steps could change and are not finalized until they are announced. The White House declined to comment. Each year, the US government makes 65,000 H-1B visas available to companies seeking skilled foreign workers, along with an additional 20,000 visas for workers with advanced degrees. The visas last for three years and can be renewed for another three years. The companies using the most H-1B workers in recent years include the Indian-based Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services as well as Amazon, Alphabet and Meta in the US, according to US government data. The ability for some of the temporary foreign workers to renew visas in the US would free up resources for visa interviews in consulates abroad, the spokesperson said.

Washington, June 22 (IANS) The search for the missing tourist submarine with five people on board, is entering a critical stage as the dwindling supply of oxygen in the vessel is estimated to run out on Thursday. According to estimated from the US Coast Guard, the supply of oxygen could run out by 7.18 a.m. on Thursday EST (4.48 p.m. IST), reports the BBC. The Titan submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, begins each trip with 96 hours of life support.
The search area as of Thursday morning covers an area twice the size of the US state of Connecticut, and a sub-surface area 4 km deep. The expansion of the site was because of underwater sounds detected on Tuesday and Wednesday by a Canadian P-3 aircraft. But the source of the sounds remains unknown. But according to Capt. Jamie Frederick, the response coordinator for the First Coast Guard District, the searches in the area have “yielded negative results”. “Data from the plane that identified the noises was sent to the US Navy, but has so far been inconclusive,” CNN quoted Frederick as saying, adding that the Coast Guard does not know what the sounds were. Meanwhile, 10 extra ships and several remote submarines will join the search on Thursday, more than doubling operations, the BBC reported.

Joe Biden and PM Modi are expected to announce a variety of agreements related to defense cooperation and sales, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and investments in India by Micron Technology and other US companies.
Biden Will Not Lecture PM Modi On Human Rights: White House
HiIndia Newsdesk
Washington: US President Joe Biden welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday for two days of talks that the White House sees as bolstering "one of the defining partnerships of our age," despite ongoing US concerns about human rights. Washington wants India to be a strategic counterweight to China while PM Modi is seeking to raise the influence that his country, now the world's most populous, has on the world stage. Joe Biden and PM Modi are expected to announce a variety of agreements related to defense cooperation and sales, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and investments in India by Micron Technology and other US companies. Joe Biden is expected to bring up US concerns about democratic backsliding in India, but he will not lecture PM Modi on the subject, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan
told reporters. When the US sees challenges to press, religious or other freedoms, "we make our views known," Sullivan said. He added, "We do so in a way where we don't seek to lecture or assert that we don't have challenges ourselves." "Ultimately, the question of where politics and the question of democratic institutions go in India is going to be determined within India by Indians. It's not going to be determined by the United States," Sullivan said.
Modi has been to the United States five times since becoming prime minister in 2014, but the trip will be his first with the full diplomatic status of a state visit, despite concerns in the US over human rights. Joe Biden is under pressure by his fellow democrats to bring up human rights with PM Modi. PM Modi is being warmly greeted by US CEOs, including at a Friday reception. On Tuesday, he met with Tesla's Elon
Musk in New York. Both Joe Biden and PM Modi are grappling with Bejiing's flexing its muscle in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. "This visit is not about China. But the question of China's role in the military domain, the technology domain, the economic domain will be on the agenda," Sullivan said. PM Modi will visit the National Science Foundation with first lady Jill Biden on Wednesday and have a private dinner with the president Wednesday night at the White House. On Thursday, PM Modi will be welcomed with a colorful arrival ceremony on the White House South Lawn. Joe Biden and PM Modi will hold Oval Office talks and attend a state dinner in PM Modi's honor Thursday night. No joint press conference was planned. White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said work was still ongoing on this subject. PM Modi has not followed the West in its efforts to back Ukraine and India has been heavily reliant on Russian oil. Joe Biden will bring up Russia and Ukraine ahead of the G20 summit later this year that will be held in India, Sullivan said.

Will US Semiconductor Investment Transform India's Digital Economy? The Indian semiconductor market was valued at USD 27.2 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow at a healthy CAGR of nearly 19 per cent to reach USD 64 billion in 2026. Ridhi Dogra: Will do rom-com only if I can break some norms I am all about love,” says Ridhi Dogra gleefully, who has added a rom-com to her resume with Amazon miniTV’s Badtameez Dil. While both shows were intense, the actor admits that playing a naïve romantic woman was tougher than playing a forensic officer. So, how did she straddle the two contrasting worlds? Over to Dogra as she talks about romance, roles and more. I don’t think love is modern or old, it’s a universal emotion and is always relevant. Love is not so much about the things we do, but it’s about the values that we carry into a relationship. Consulate General of India Revamped Immigration Hosts Spectacular Event for 9th Law Triggers Concern And Workforce Relocation In Florida International Day of Yoga
HiIndia Newsdesk
QUINCY, FL- In Quincy, Florida, the implementation of Senate Bill 1718, a law aimed at cracking down on illegal immigration, has triggered an exodus of migrant workers. Despite Governor Ron DeSantis promoting the law as proof of his tough stance on immigration, many businesses and community members are expressing concerns about the negative impact it will have on the state’s economy. Graves Williams, a lifelong Republican and tomato farmer, acknowledges the indispensability of immigrant laborers for the agricultural industry. He believes that the new law will harm businesses and questions DeSantis’ motives, speculating that the governor may be prioritizing politics over the well-being of the state. Florida’s construction, restaurant, landscaping, and other service sectors are already grappling with labor shortages, and the new immigration restrictions will further exacerbate the problem. As

Biden’s Recent Decision Grants Long-Term Legal Status To Over 300,000 Migrants
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, DC- The Biden administration announced on Tuesday its decision to extend the legal status of over 300,000 migrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal. These individuals were facing the expiration
of their deportation protections under the policies implemented by former President Trump. As a result of this extension, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will be granted to approximately 337,000 migrants from these countries. This will allow them to continue residing and working legally in the United States for an additional 18 months. It is worth noting that the previous administration, led by President Trump, had attempted to terminate the TPS programs for these four countries, as well as others. However, these efforts faced legal challenges and were ultimately halted by the U.S. courts.
Controversial Senior Prank Leads to Disciplinary Action for N.J. Students
HiIndia Newsdesk
LYNDHURST, NJ- Several students from a Bergen County high school who participated in a prank inside the school building prior to their graduation were facing the possibility of being banned from the graduation ceremony. However, an amicable resolution was reached after discussions between the school administration and the parents of the involved students. The details of the resolution were not disclosed due to the sensitivity of student information. When asked whether the students would be allowed to walk across the stage
during graduation, Superintendent Joseph A. DeCorso responded that he couldn’t provide a definitive answer as it directly relates to the students’ disciplinary records. The prank, carried out by approximately 18 male students, involved moving desks into the hallway of Lyndhurst High School on Monday night. A Change. org petition was created, garnering approximately 2,700 signatures, urging the district to allow the students to attend the graduation ceremony. The petition claimed that the administration intended to prevent them from walking across the stage at graduation. Paul Passamono, a member of the board of education, acknowledged that the prank was foolish but believed it wasn’t severe enough to warrant preventing the students from participating in the graduation ceremony. He expressed his opinion on Facebook, stating, “Kids are kids, they do stupid things without thinking. It was stupid, but not stupid enough not to let them walk.”
highlighted that Acharya Lokeshji and his organization, Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti, have been honored with numerous national and international awards. Guardian emphasized the visit of Acharya Lokeshji to New Jersey as an
invaluable opportunity for its residents to learn and grow. Assemblywoman Claire S. Swift conveyed her pride as a legislator representing New Jersey’s second district and recognized the significance of Acharya Lokeshji’s visit to the region. She acknowledged the profound contribution made by people from diverse backgrounds, including the constituents of Atlantic County, in fostering a harmonious society. Expressing his gratitude, Acharya Dr. Lokeshji, the founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti and World Peace Center, humbly accepted the honor. He emphasized that this recognition was not just for himself but also a tribute to the ancient Indian culture, Lord Mahavir, and the timeless ideas espoused by him. Acharya Lokeshji further emphasized the potential for India and America to collaborate effectively in establishing peace and harmony worldwide.
DACA Program Reaches 11Year Milestone Amid Uncertainty
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, DC-The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program marked its 11-year anniversary on Thursday, but the future of this policy remains uncertain, leaving its recipients in a state of uncertainty. Since its establishment by President Obama in 2012, DACA recipients have transitioned from primarily being high school and college students to establishing careers and starting families. According to a recent report by proimmigration group FWD.us, there are approximately 580,000 individuals who are DACA recipients. While the majority (81%) of these recipients were born in Mexico, they reside in communities across the United States. California has the highest concentration of DACA recipients (28%), followed by Texas (17%), with the remaining recipients distributed throughout the country. The first cohort of DACA recipients has made significant contributions to the U.S. economy. Since 2012, they have experienced a sevenfold increase in median income and have contributed $108 billion to the economy, while also paying a combined $33 billion in taxes. Many DACA recipients have achieved educational milestones, with 99%
graduating from high school and 48% attaining some college education. The majority of recipients actively participate in the labor force, contributing an estimated $13.3 billion annually. They often work in industries facing labor shortages, such as healthcare, business services, and education. Additionally, a significant portion of DACA recipients are married (39%) and have children (48%). FWD.us highlights that for most DACA recipients, the United States is the only home they have known. They often live in mixed-status families, with 84% having at least one household member who is not a DACA recipient or an undocumented individual. It is estimated that around 1.1 million U.S. citizens live in households with DACA recipients, and approximately 100,000 DACA recipients are married to U.S. citizens. Despite the significant benefits brought by DACA, its recipients continue to face numerous challenges in their pursuit of stability and security. The future of this policy remains uncertain, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform. Such reform would provide a more lasting solution and establish a fair and inclusive pathway for undocumented individuals who arrived in the country as children.

According to legal documents obtained by The Times, the Biden administration's new asylum policy has significantly decreased the percentage of migrants at the southern border who can apply for asylum in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) cautioned a federal court that without these limits, the influx of migrants could strain local towns and resources. Under the new rules, individuals who pass through a third country on their way to the U.S. without seeking protection there are presumed ineligible for asylum. The rate of single-adult migrants passing initial screenings at the border dropped from 83% to 46% under the new policy, as revealed by court filings. Following the expiration of Title 42 rules that swiftly turned back migrants without providing access to asylum, the administration highlights a decline in border crossings as evidence of the policy's effectiveness. However, critics
argue that Biden's policy resembles a previous Trump-era effort, making similar circumstances ineligible for asylum. The ACLU and other groups have sought to block the rule in federal court, echoing concerns from immigrant advocates and legal organizations. Out of the 8,195 asylum-seekers who crossed the border, 88% were affected by the new rules, limiting their chances of obtaining asylum. While some migrants met the higher screening standards or established exceptions, the data suggests that the majority would unlikely succeed in obtaining asylum in immigration court due to the policy. Senior DHS official Blas Nuñez-Neto stated that the aim of the rule was to significantly reduce screen-in rates for noncitizens encountered along the Southwest border. He argued that the rule's implementation discourages irregular migration and encourages the use of safe and orderly pathways, pointing to a decline in border encounters and entries into the Darién Gap.

Eating junk food linked with reduced deep sleep quality: Study A total of 15 healthy normalweight young men participated in two sessions of the study. Participants were first screened for aspects such as their sleep habits, which had to be normal and within the recommended range of seven to nine hours per night. The participants were randomly given both a healthier diet and an unhealthier diet. The two diets contained the same number of calories, adjusted to each individual's daily requirements.
C
onsuming an unhealthier diet is associated with a lower quality of deep sleep, according to a small-scale study. Deep sleep, the third stage of sleep, repairs and restores necessary functions such as memory, muscle growth, and immunity. Researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden analysed how junk food affects sleep. Healthy participants consumed an unhealthier as well as a healthier diet in a randomised order. The study, recently published in the journal Obesity, shows that after eating the junk food, the quality of the participants' deep sleep deteriorated, compared with those who followed the healthier diet. "Both poor diet and poor sleep increase the risk of several public health conditions," said Jonathan Cedernaes, Associate Professor at Uppsala University. A total of 15 healthy normal-weight young men participated in two sessions of the study. Participants were first screened for aspects such as their sleep habits, which had to be normal and within the recommended range of seven to nine hours per night. The participants were randomly given both a healthier diet and an unhealthier diet. The two diets contained the same number of calories, adjusted to each individual's daily requirements.
Among other things, the unhealthier diet contained a higher content of sugar and saturated fat and more processed food items. Each diet was consumed for a week, while the participants' sleep, activity and meal schedules were monitored at an individual level. "What we saw was that the participants slept for the same amount of time when they consumed the two diets. This was the case both while they were following the diets, as well as after they had switched to another, identical diet," said Cedernaes. The researchers looked at slow-wave activity, a measure that can reflects how restorative deep sleep is. "Intriguingly, we saw that deep sleep exhibited less slowwave activity when the participants had eaten junk food, compared with consumption of healthier food," Cedernaes said. This effect lasted into the second night, once participants switched to an identical diet. Essentially, the unhealthy diet resulted in shallower deep sleep, the scientist said. Similar changes in sleep occur with aging and in conditions such as insomnia, the researchers said. It can be hypothesised, from a sleep perspective, that greater importance should potentially be attached to diet in such conditions, they added.
The importance of digestive health
M
aintaining a healthy gut contributes to a robust immune system. A significant portion of our immune cells reside in the stomach. A balanced and diverse gut microbiome - the collection of micro-organisms in our digestive tract - helps support immune function and protect against harmful pathogens. Taking care of digestive health is crucial for bolstering the body's defence mechanisms. Beyond physical health, the gut is often called the "second brain" due to the intricate connection between our digestive system and mental well-being. Imbalances in the gut microbiota can impact mood, cognition, and even the risk of mental health disorders. By nurturing our digestive health, we can promote not only a happy gut but also a happy mind. But how can one maintain a healthy digestive system? Here are several simple yet effective steps you can take for your digestive health:
Maintain a Healthy Diet
The food we consume directly affects our digestive
health. A balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins provides the fibre and essential nutrients necessary for a healthy digestive system. Fibre promotes regular bowel movements and helps prevent constipation. It also supports the growth of gut bacteria, which benefits the body. Regular Exercise Physical activity is not only beneficial for cardiovascular health and weight management but also plays a role in maintaining a healthy digestive system. Exercise helps to stimulate the muscles in the digestive tract, promoting efficient digestion and preventing issues such as constipation. You must get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
Managing Stress Stress has a significant impact on the digestive system. Chronic stress can disrupt the natural balance of the gut, leading to digestive issues such as indigestion, bloating, and even irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Practising stress management techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation, or engaging in hobbies can support a healthy digestive system.

As the world struggles with the virus and pollution, yoga can help with the stress brought on by disease. Those who make yoga the cornerstone of their existence never lose their vigour. Yoga offers several advantages whether you are an expert or a beginner. It is a current fad that is actually quite beneficial for boosting immunity. There is no longer a need to take time out of your busy schedule to go to the gym or anywhere else to practise yoga; you can do it whenever you want, even at home. It is simple and simple to carry out. Yoga provides a wide range of advantages, including increased flexibility, lowered stress levels, improved fertility, solutions for serious skin issues, a flawless skin glow aids in reducing hair loss, and many more.
Yoga can help in boosting your fertility
An ancient Indian medical practice is yoga. Yoga is a method of maintaining internal wellness. Asanas, pranayama, and meditation are a few of the various variations of yoga. Research has shown that people with infertility can benefit greatly from practising yoga. For example, practising yoga will not only make you feel less stressed, but it will also help to boost your immunity, which is typically weakened throughout the process and even during treatment. It will also encourage better sleep and more physical activity, among other things. "Try practicing yoga to unwind, realign your pelvis, and improve blood circulation. all elements that can encourage conception more quickly. According to studies, yoga can assist in reducing stress, which can have an impact on fertility. Certain poses can also help promote childbirth by increasing blood flow to your pelvis, stimulating hormone-producing glands, and easing muscle tension." said Dr. Shobha Gupta Medical Director and IVF specialist from Mother's Lap IVF Centre, New Delhi and Vrindavan. Dr. Shobha Gupta f ur ther adds "Yoga, meditation, and breath-control techniques all help to relax the mind and lessen worry. You can strengthen the muscles and reproductive organs that are required throughout pregnancy and childbirth by doing fertility yoga. Their deep breathing approach encourages better blood circulation, lessens stress, and makes it simpler to unwind". A holistic approach to health and wellbeing is offered through yoga. For those who are dealing with infertility, life is filled with significance; when one
learns they are unable to have children, their entire outlook on life is affected. The age-old science of yoga offers practical methods for dealing with the diagnosis and therapies as well as for promoting maximum health during the healing process.
For Expecting mothers
According to Dr. Shobha Gupta, prenatal yoga is another great exercise for expectant mothers since it "encourages relaxation, flexibility, focus, and deep breathing." Indoor cycling is a great method to work up a sweat without straining your ankle and knee joints because you can bike at your own pace without falling. Yoga therapy not only aids in conquering infertility, but it also relieves stress, which aids in the treatment of many serious illnesses, including cancer. It can aid with pain management, sleep improvement, energy boosts, fatigue reduction, stress and anxiety reduction, and psychological wellness, including depression. Those who have been diagnosed with cancer and are receiving cancer treatment can benefit greatly from yoga therapy. "We have frequently observed that infertile couples need a lot of patience when undergoing IVF therapy because this is their only remaining hope. Therefore, by claiming both the body and the mind, deep relaxation helps to relieve tension and anxiety while promoting a condition of balance. Since stress and worry weaken the immune system, this calming effect normally helps to support and promote the immune system", added Dr. Shobha Gupta.
Do yoga to get rid of skin conditions
Dr. Sandeep Babbar, Medical Director and Dermatologist from Revyve Skin, Hair and Nail Clinic Faridabad explains that the main causes of skin issues are our unhealthy lifestyles and food habits. What we eat is what we display on our faces. The skin won't appear radiant and healthy if our bodies are not in good health. When digestion is improper and the stomach is upset, skin issues including acne, pimples, dry skin, eczema, leucoderma, psoriasis, and others are directly correlated. Skin injury can also be caused by renal issues and weak digestive function. Yoga asanas and pranayamas are crucial for preventing this. Dr. Sandeep Babbar suggests start the day with Surya Namaskar as it helps to maintain the body healthy and free from disease. It also aids in keeping the mind clear of stress and worry.

Root Overtakes Ashes 2023: Cummins, Lyon help Australia Joe Marnus Labuschagne as ICC Men's Test win first Test in a nail-biting finale Top-Ranked Batte HiIndia Newsdesk
Bir ming ham: (IANS) A sup erb rearguard innings of 44 not out by skipper Pat Cummins and his crucial 55-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Nathan Lyon (16 not out) helped Australia scamper to a two-wicket victory over England in the nail-biting first Ashes Test of the 2023 series at the Edgbaston here on Tuesday. Chasing a fourth innings target of 218 to win the match, Australia, who ended Day Four at 107/3, were in trouble after losing Alex Carey for 20 with the score 227/8. The first game of the new ICC World Test Championship cycle ended in dramatic fashion, with Cummins playing a captain's knock to steer his side to a famous victory in the

"MS Dhoni Not Going To Play Until...": CSK CEO's Big Update On Skipper's Knee Injury
HiIndia Newsdesk
England player Moeen Ali has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for "spaying a drying agent" on his bowling hand on day two of the opening Ashes Test against Australia. "Ali was found to have breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game," said the ICC in a statement. In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Ali's disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period. The incident occurred in the 89th over of Australia's innings, when Ali sprayed a drying agent on his bowling hand at the boundary line before coming on to bowl the next over, thus defying the umpires' pre-series instructions about not using anything on their hands without prior approval. Ali admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. In reaching his decision to sanction the player, the Match Referee was satisfied that Ali had used the spray only to dry his hands. The spray was not used as an artificial substance on the ball and consequently it had not changed the condition of the ball, which would have been in breach of clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions – Unfair Play – The Match Ball – Changing its Condition," the statement added. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Marais Erasmus, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Mike Burns levelled the charge.
their first innings at 393/8 and bowled out for 272 in their second, were sniffing their chances as they only needed two wickets with Australia needing 54 runs. However, Cummins and Lyon shared an unfinished 55-run partnership for the ninth wicket as they gave Australia the winning start in their attempt to wrest back the Urn in England after many years. England looked favourites when Cummins came to the crease, but the skipper added 18 runs alongside Alex Carey and then played the decisive part in the match-winning stand with Nathan Lyon as the opening match of the Ashes went down to the wire. It was Cummins who hit the winning runs, ending on 44 not out and embraced by the unbeaten Lyon (16 not out).

Chennai Super Kings' chief executive officer, Kasi Viswanathan, has revealed that CSK skipper MS Dhoni's knee injury was a struggle for him, and yet he never complained about this to anybody. Dhoni didn't miss a single match in CSK's IPL 2023 triumph. He led the team from the front and ensured that his
team walked away with their fifth IPL title. The former Indian skipper went through knee surgery at the beginning of this month to overcome this issue. CSK CEO Viswanathan said that during the entire IPL, they never asked MS Dhoni to play if he did not want to. He said that they knew that if Dhoni was unfit, he would have made it clear well in advance. "We never asked him things like 'do you want to play or do you want to sit out?' If he can't, he would've told us straightaway," Viswanathan said while speaking to ESPNcricinfo. "We knew it was a struggle for him to play, but his commitment to the team, his leadership and how the team benefits everyone knows. From that perspective, you have to appreciate him," he said.

Birmingham: (IANS) England's premier batter Joe Root has replaced Australia's Marnus Labuschagne as the top-ranked Test batter in the latest update of ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings released on Wednesday. Root managed scores of 118 not out, his 30th Test century and 46 in both innings in a losing cause during the first Ashes Test in Birmingham. Those superb individual efforts saw the 32-year-old rise a massive five places and regain his place as the number one-ranked Test batter in the world. Labuschagne has dropped to third place as a result of scores of 0 and 13 against England, with Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson, out due to an ACL injury, jumping two places to second overall.

It all kicked off at the Hanns-BraunStadion at Olympiapark early in the morning, Geetanjali running a time of 4:31:40, almost eight seconds ahead of her competitor in second place to put India on the board early. Not long after, India added a silver in the male

Indian athletes were in action in handball, badminton, powerlifting, swimming and roller skating. In the pool, Dinesh Shanmugam continued his form from the day prior to bring home a silver in the Male 50m breaststroke, Level A, clocking a time of 46.59 to do so. country for matches, including this year's ICC ODI World Cup, until the BCCI agrees to send its team to his nation first. As per the draft schedule prepared by the ICC, Pakistan are scheduled to play India in the blockbuster World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15. But the 66-year-old former captain feels it is now India's time to reciprocate by touring Pakistan. "Pakistan has been to India in 2012 and even in 2016 now it is the turn of the Indians to come here," Miandad said. "If I had to make a decision I would never go to India to play any match, even the World Cup. We are always ready to play them (India) but they never respond in the same manner. "Pakistan cricket is bigger...we are still producing quality players. So I don't think even if we don't go to India it will make any difference to us," he added.
