Bogus Call

WASHINGTON :- Police gave an all-clear at the U.S. Capitol complex on Wednesday, finding no gunman or suspicious activities after a report of a possible active shooter that was most likely "bogus," U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger told reporters. After about 90 minutes of investigating, police allowed workers in three Senate office buildings adjacent to the U.S. Capitol to return to work.

"I think at this point we can say we've found no confirmation of an active shooter and this may have been a bogus call," Manger said.

About 200 officers were mobilized to clear the three Senate office buildings on Constitution Avenue. Manger said there were no indications that anyone suspicious was spotted nearby. Manger said Washington's Metropolitan Police Department received a call reporting a shooter and tried to contact the initial caller without success.

Donald Trump faces federal charges for efforts to overturn 2020 election

Former President Donald J. Trump was indicted on Tuesday in connection with his widespread efforts to overturn the 2020 election following a sprawling federal investigation into his attempts to cling to power after losing the presidency.

The indictment, filed by the special counsel Jack Smith in the Federal District Court in Washington, accuses Trump of three conspiracies: one to defraud the US; a second to obstruct an official government proceeding, the certification of the Electoral College vote; and a third to deprive people of a civil right, the right to have their votes counted. Trump was also charged with a fourth count of obstructing or attempting to obstruct an official proceeding.

“Each of these conspiracies — which built on the widespread mistrust the defendant was creating through pervasive and destabilising lies about election fraud — targeted a bedrock function of the US federal government: the nation’s process of collecting, counting and certifying the results of the presidential election,” the

It said it "did not want to interfere with the efforts to bring him home". However, the reply indicates Pyongyang could be ready to start negotiating.

and once-doubtful Democrats falling into line behind his re-election bid, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll.

Biden appears to have escaped the political danger zone he resided in last year when nearly two-thirds of his party wanted a different nominee. Now, Democrats have broadly accepted him as their standard-bearer, even if half would prefer someone else. Still, warning signs abound for the President: Despite his improved standing and a friendlier national environment, Biden remains broadly unpopular among a voting public that is pessimistic about the country’s future, and his approval rating is a mere 39 per cent.

UK interest rates expected to rise for 14th time in a row

Most economists have predicted the Bank will increase its base rate to 5.25% from its current 5% later on Thursday. That would mean higher interest rates on mortgages and loans for some people, but also higher savings rates. UK inflation, the rate at which prices rise, remains elevated and is putting households under pressure. The last time interest rates stood at 5.25% was 15 years ago in April 2008. However, a rise to 5.25% would mark a smaller increase than July's dramatic rise to 5% from 4.5% and follows signs that price rises have begun to ease. Inflation fell by much more than expected in June and at 7.9% is at its lowest level in over a year but remains nearly four times higher than the Bank of England's 2% target.

Pantheon Macroeconomics said this meant policy makers would not need to

Beijing: (IANS) Beijing has reported its heaviest rainfall over the past few days since record keeping began 140 years ago, authorities in the Chinese capital said. The capital city logged 744.8 mm of rain, the maximum amount of precipitation recorded during the rainstorm, between 8 p.m. on July 29 and 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Wangjiayuan reservoir in Changping district, the Beijing Meteorological Service said Wednesday. Beijing has experienced spells of torrential rains brought by typhoon Doksuri since the start of the weekend, which had caused 11 fatalities as of Tuesday morning.

UN warns of economic downturn in S.Sudan amid Sudan conflict

Juba: (IANS) The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has warned of an economic downturn in South Sudan amid the crisis in Sudan.

Nicholas Haysom, the special representative of the UN SecretaryGeneral and head of the UNMISS, on Wednesday stressed that an attack on the oil pipeline that transports South Sudan's oil to the international market through Port Sudan will cripple the economy of South Sudan, Xinhua news agency reported.

"We are acutely aware that one of the great

dangers that South Sudan faces is that there will be an attack on the oil pipeline, which would have an almost immediate impact on the economy of South Sudan," Haysom told journalists at a press conference in the South Sudanese capital of Juba. "South Sudan is really not in a

position to withstand another significant shock. So far, that hasn't happened, but it gives a real particular interest to South Sudan to do whatever it can to ensure peace," he added. Haysom called for the restoration of peace in Sudan as soon as possible, warning that the crisis will potentially exacerbate the economic and humanitarian situation in South Sudan. He said the UN is concerned about the situation in Sudan, stressing that it has a spillover effect on South Sudan, making it more difficult for the country to tackle critical issues, including economic and humanitarian challenges.

Gyanvapi Case: Big Win For Hindu Side Allahabad HC Allows ASI Survey At Mosque Complex

Prayagraj: Allahabad High Court on Thursday allowed the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi. “Allahabad High Court has said that ASI survey of Gyanvapi mosque complex will start. Sessions court order is upheld by the High Court,” Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in Gyanvapi survey case told reporters.

The Allahabad High Court dismissed Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee’s plea, challenging the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey of the mosque complex, adjacent to Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee had challenged the Varanasi District Judge’s July 21 order. On July 21,

New Delhi: China’s loss in India could be Elon Musk’s gain.

Tesla has had a red-carpet welcome from India for its proposal to invest in the country, while its largest rival in electric vehicles, China’s BYD, has been stopped cold by increased scrutiny from New Delhi.

The result could be an opening for Tesla to negotiate terms for an entry to the world’s third-largest auto market without the competitive threat from BYD that it faces in other emerging markets, like Thailand. “The future of who wins in India will have some bearing on who wins globally in the EV race,” said Jasmeet Khurana of the World Economic Forum.

Since a meeting between Musk and

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June in New York, Tesla has fasttracked closed-door discussions with officials on a potential plant investment and plans to build a new low-cost $24,000 EV. Those talks continued over the past week with Tesla discussing minute details of its plans to gain access to India’s fast-growing EV market, and Prime Minister Modi personally tracking developments, sources say. Those meetings, though, have been strictly kept under wraps, with officials putting out no photos on social media of handshakes with executives which otherwise is a usual affair after highprofile meetings.

BYD, meanwhile, appears to be taking a backseat. Months after seeking clearance for its own $1 billion investment in India, BYD is no longer keen to pursue the approval, Reuters reported.

MPs urged to help mom get her two-anda-half-year-old baby Ariha from Germany

Dhara Shah, the mother of two-anda-half-year-old Ariha who has been in German foster care for nearly two years after she was injured in Germany in September 2021, on Wednesday reached out to Indian Opposition MPs to mobilise opinion so that the German authorities can hand over the child to foster parents in India. Briefing media persons after meeting Dhara Shah, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said they would urge the external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and petition the German ambassador in India to help in Ariha’s early return to India. Saying that foster parents have

been identified for the child in Gujarat, Bachchan urged the government to make all efforts to bring Ariha to India. The Indian foster care option has already been offered to German childcare authorities by the Indian government as Germany will not allow Ariha to be returned to her parents. In an effort to ensure that Ariha at least grows up in her own socio-cultural milieu, the external affairs ministry had identified potential foster parents for the toddler in Gujarat with the request that Germany hand over the child to them under the supervision of Indian childcare authorities.

"I am running for President of the United States of America. We stand at the crossroads where we can either head into a Golden Age or into the Darkness... Ayyadurai left India in 1970 and came to live the American dream along with his parents and settled in Paterson, New Jersey.

"I left the caste system of India in 1970 where we were considered low caste 'Untouchables' and 'Deplorables'," he said on his campaign website.

Ayyadurai's announcement comes closely after Indian-American aerospace engineer Hirsh Vardhan Singh threw his hat in the ring for the Republican nomination after former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

A Fulbright Scholar with four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ayyadurai had expressed interest in taking up the position of Twitter's chief executive officer last year. According to his campaign website, he has started seven hi-tech companies including EchoMail, CytoSolve and Systems Health and "invented email" when he was just 14-years-old.

He is currently the Founder and CEO of CytoSolve, Inc, which is discovering cures for major diseases from pancreatic cancer to Alzheimer’s.

India, Brazil Resist China on BRICS Expansion

India and Brazil are pushing back against a Chinese bid to rapidly expand the BRICS group of emerging markets to grow its political clout and counter the US, officials with knowledge of the matter said. The countries have raised objections in preparatory talks for a summit in Johannesburg next month where Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will discuss potentially expanding the group to include Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. China has repeatedly lobbied for expansion during those meetings, said the officials, who asked not to be identified as the discussions are private.

Majority American Sikhs Reject Khalistan Violence: Raja Krishnamoorthi

Singh helped convict a powerful local politician and exposed widespread corruption, Singh owned a dozen restaurants and catering facilities. He admitted in court in 2016 to eight charges, including bribery, tax law violations and making a fake claim of $1 million, to a federal agency for damages. He had also said that he gave a bribe to former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio for a concessional city lease for a restaurant. The prosecutors, however, did not charge the politician as they said there was no evidence that he personally benefited from the money given to his campaign.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, recently while speaking to Khalsa Vox said that Khalistanis constitute a tiny segment of the population. The few extremist Khalistanis are not representative of the broader sentiments of Sikh Americans. He also said that the overwhelming majority of Sikh Americans, and Indian Americans at large, would not condone or support the violence and hostility disseminated by this marginal group.

The Australia investment will complement giga-factories that Reliance is building at Jamnagar in Gujarat to produce solar cells and modules, energy storage batteries, fuel cells and green hydrogen.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Reliance and Brookfield "aims to both accelerate

and de-risk Australia's energy transition by enabling it to locally produce clean energy equipment such as PV modules, long duration battery storage and components for wind energy," it said. Under the terms of the MoU, Brookfield

will work with Reliance to explore avenues of direct capital investment and development of skills, knowledge and expertise in the renewable energy sector of Australia to facilitate the nation's transition to a net-zero future.

she said at an event organised by CII here. Pointing out that innovation is the third I, she said, "the government has opened up several areas inclusive of the space, nuclear energy, looking at getting out of fossil fuels. We have enough reasons to believe the youth today are giving us solutions, which are very good for the frontier technologies that we're talking about, as much as for the legacy issues which persist in India for which we need solutions." On the fourth I, inclusiveness, she said, "as we aim to reach for the developed nation in 25 years by focussing on inclusiveness, making sure that every section of India, the common man, is benefitted by everything that we do (whether) investment or reforms are trying to take schemes to the people." Talking about India's contribution to the G20 during its presidency, the finance minister said the grouping is working on contemporary issues like dealing with post-pandemic challenges and revival plan.

First agenda is how could multilateral development banks (MDBs) become nimble and address 21st century challenges and their capacity to generate and bring in more resources including from market and private sector to address current challenges expeditiously, she said.

Zomato hires chief fitness officer as CEO Deepinder Goyal loses 15 kg

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the focus of the government is on four Is -- infrastructure, investment, innovation and inclusiveness -- to make India a developed nation by 2047.

She said India has the necessary wherewithal to meet the goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides several investor-friendly reforms undertaken by the government, she said, India has a very vibrant young population and the emphasis on skilling them to suit the requirement of the

We are looking at infrastructure (first I) in a very big way. In the last 3 to 5 years, consistently, the public expenditure for infrastructure building has been ramped up significantly and it will reach ₹ 10 lakh crore in 2023-24." With infrastructure comes investment (second I), the minister said, adding that emphasis on investment will promote greater participation of both the public and private sectors.

So, she said, infrastructure is not just going to be physical such as bridges, roads, ports or airports, but also creation of digital infrastructure is given importance.

"We are looking for both public investment and private investment and creating necessary environment, the ecosystem as we often refer to for attracting private investment. And the global discussions which are going on blended finance is also something which we're looking at,"

The other issues under India's presidency are debt and debt-related distress that many countries are facing, she said, adding countries are waiting for debt resolution even 3-4 years after submitting application. In this regard, a speedier and comprehensive approach is required whether it comes under common framework or outside, she said. Citing example of Sri Lanka's distress, she said it required a quick redressal although outside of framework because it's a middle income country. "At the moment countries tried some ways. India did not rush into coming up with regulation but we are looking at it because it's so technology driven. We think it is possible only when all countries can take a common approach. Each one can legislate upon them the way they want later within their country. There has to be a common approach in it getting some regulatory framework in place," the minister said.

PM Modi Concerned Over Congress States’ Public Welfare Bills

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has identified a “serious worry” for the country. No, it is not politics of hate and the resultant violence. It’s not weakening of democratic institutions. Nor is it the economic slide, rising unemployment and sky-rocketing prices. It is not a hostile China, either.

The real worry, according to the Prime Minister, is public welfare. It is the tendency of the state governments to provide assistance to the weakest sections of society, but the Prime Minister on Tuesday described such a propensity as “anti-development”.

Addressing a public rally in Pune, Modi said: “We see all-round development in Maharashtra but what is happening in Karnataka is before all of us. Bangalore is such a big IT hub. It is a global investors’ centre. It was necessary for Karnataka to be developed fast at this stage. But the ill-effects of a government formed by making the kind of promises it made have come before the country in such a short time.”

He rubbed the message in: “When a party empties the government’s coffers for vested interests, people of the state face its worst consequences. The future of the youth comes into question. The party which makes those promises succeeds in forming its government but the people’s future gets endangered. The Karnataka government itself has conceded that it doesn’t have the resources for Bangalore’s development.”

Several shops and shanties next to a residential complex were set on fire on Tuesday night. Gurugram has imposed prohibitory orders after sporadic incidents of violence on Tuesday. Sale of loose petrol or diesel has also been banned to prevent incidents of arson. On violence in the city, Gurugram Police said, “There have been some incidents of arson and skirmishes today. But there has been no major incident.”

Opposition bloc INDIA on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu over their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Parliament on the Manipur issue.

They also demanded that the prime minister visit the strife-torn state to restore peace, reports PTI.

In the memorandum submitted to the President, 31 leaders of the Opposition bloc also raised the issue of communal tension in Haryana’s Nuh and alleged that the Central government was not bothered about the developments that are taking place “barely 100 km from the Prime Minister’s Office”.

Abhishek, Saiyami's 'Ghoomer' Inspires Paraplegic Sportspersons

God has given me much more than I envisaged Sonu turns 50

Music has been an inseparable part of Sonu Nigam’s life. The singer turned 50 today and of the last five decades, he has spent 45 years performing on stage. Ask about his greatest learnings and he says, “I’ve realised that you have to always keep your head bowed down to the universe. I’ve also realised that I can never take credit for anything I have achieved. It’s only my good fortune that I’ve enjoyed a glorious career for the last 45 years.”

The first look motion poster of Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher starrer 'Ghoomer', which was unveiled by the makers on Monday, is a powerful depiction of an amputee female cricketer, and her determination to play for the country, despite facing physical challenges.

The 34 second teaser starts with a voiceover saying, "Logically ek haath se koi desh ke liye khel sakta hai? No." The Reel video shows a hard hitting glimpse of Saiyami as Anina, a paraplegic sportsperson, who has her right arm amputee, and is holding a cricket ball in her left hand. She is wearing a white sports uniform.

Shabana Azmi to hoist Indian flag at IFFM Independence Day celebrations

When he started out as a musician, did he think he’d become an established artiste, with a National Film Award and Padma Shri to his credit? “God has given me much more than I imagined or envisaged,” says Nigam, adding, “I came to Mumbai to become a singer. Little did I know that there would come a time when they’d be selling my posters all over India.”

With decades of experience, Nigam has seen the Indian music industry evolve - from the ups and downs in the independent music space to the changing sound of film music. Is there a phase that stands out for him? “I have seen a lot of transitions in music and the business of music, but I don’t believe in glorifying a particular time or group of artistes or undermining the younger lot. Every decade has had its own ups and downs. I feel being regressive hampers one’s growth,” says the singer, who rang in his 50th birthday last night in the presence of his family and friends.

Vada Pav or Pav Bhaji?

Men manufacture a certain idea of masculinity Shweta Tripathi Sharma

Shweta Tripathi Sharma is inherently drawn to “tougher, edgier, and morally hazy roles.” Kaalkoot ticked the first box, giving her a powerful role. Couple that with the opportunity to work with director Sumit Saxena, and it was an instant yes from the actor. “When I choose any project, the material, character, and story are of the utmost importance, but it is also important to know who the makers are. If you have a great script in the wrong hands, it isn’t [going to bear fruit]. I trusted Sumit’s vision because I had worked with him before on a short film,” says Tripathi.

The JioCinema series sees Tripathi play an acid attack survivor, while Vijay Varma essays an earnest cop who puts his might behind solving an acid attack case. As part of her research, she met a few acid attack survivors. While she struggled to keep her tears in check while listening to their stories, she drew from their strength. “They were laughing, giggling, sharing stories, and telling me about their lives. Hats off to them because when something like this happens, you are changing not only their face or skin; you are changing who they are, their dreams, and who they want to be. No one has the right to change somebody’s life.”

Even as the crime thriller is centred on acid attacks, writers Saxena and Arunabh Kumar have gone beyond the subject to show how society sets unrealistic beauty standards and promotes toxic masculinity. Emphasising that validation comes from within, the leading lady says, “We live in a world of capitalism and consumerism, and the concept of beauty that we sell bothers me. Also, Ravi [Varma’s character] is often told that in order to be a good cop, he needs to project masculinity. This story also delves deeper into the reasons why men are the way they are in our society. They manufacture a certain idea of masculinity, a certain beauty standard, and [create a flawed ideal of] how a woman should be.”

Dayaben to soon make a comeback on 'TMOC'

Disha Vakani immortalised the role of Dayaben in the popular sitcom

'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. Therefore, when she left the show in 2017 it left a void. She first took a maternity break in 2017. She returned in 2019 for a special episode and has been on a break ever since. There was no formal announcement on her status on the show, leaving fans with the hope that she will be returning to show. The actress welcomed her second child in 2022.

Vijay Varma underplays cop in muted crime drama

An eight-part crime drama, written by Arunabh Kumar and jointly by director Sumit Saxena, KaalKoot is a hard-hitting series without the regular embellishments that adorn web series on OTT platforms. It's unsparing but not entirely uncompromising.

Sub-Inspector Ravi Shankar Tripathi (Vijay Varma) is the kind of young cop who you'll not easily come across not just in small towns such as Sirsa in Uttar Pradesh (not to be confused with the Haryana town), but even in bigger cities and metropolises. Such ordinary people with a streak of honesty and commitment may be few and far between. Essentially, such modest and obscure men often are mistaken for being average and having low self-esteem. He lives with his widowed mother (Seema Biswas) for whom he is the beall-and-end-all. Her married daughter being away, she has pinned all her hopes on him.

Colloquially referred to as Malliwood, the Malegaon film industry is touted to be one that makes films on a limited budget, but with immense passion. Fittingly then, when Adarsh Gourav was approached to be part of a movie that takes inspiration from this industry, the actor was intrigued. “When director Reema [Kagti] told me about Malegaon, I knew I was going to say yes to it. I have heard about the Malegaon industry before and it is interesting to know how they make and finance movies.

About 7 km from Nuh town, the Aravallis surrounding the temple looked scenic. Hours before, rioters gathered on these hillocks had fired shots and thrown stones as those inside the temple cowered into corners, hoping to survive those hours of horror.

This temple was the destination of the massive procession taken out through Nuh yesterday. Organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra sparked off a

Soon after the attack began, local police realised they were heavily outnumbered. Paramilitary forces were called in and those trapped inside the temple were finally rescued later in the evening. The temple has been cleared and paramilitary personnel are keeping a close watch. The burnt vehicles -- reports put their number around 50 -- have been removed from the entrance.

At the request of the US government, Singh was taken into custody on June 28, 2022, in Ontario, Canada. He was extradited from Canada to the US on March 30 this year, the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of New York stated in a release.

From March of 2020 through March of

2021, Singh admitted to facilitating the smuggling of several Indian nationals from Canada into the US, via Cornwall Island and the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation in the St Lawrence River region.

US, Taliban hold talks for first time since Afghanistan’s fall in 2021

Back in March, bodies of four Indian and four Romanian migrants were pulled from the St Lawrence River in Akwesasne -- some 120 kilometres west of Montreal and a perilous route for smuggling, according to authorities. Singh’s plea agreement said that he arranged to move people into the US from India by flying them to Calgary, Toronto and Montreal, before transporting them to Cornwall in Ontario. He then moved the Indian nationals by boat across the St Lawrence River through Akwesasne, according to CBC News.

According to documents released in April, some migrants told American law enforcement that Singh charged anywhere between $5,000 and $35,000 for facilitating their entry into the US.

Washington, Aug 1 (IANS) For the first time since the fall of Kabul in August 2021, the US and Taliban held talks in Doha during which Washington pressed the regime to “reverse policies responsible for the deteriorating human rights situation” in Afghanistan, according to the Department of State. In a statement, the Department said that talks with “senior Taliban representatives and technocratic professionals” had been held over Sunday and Monday in the Qatari capital, the BBC reported.

The US delegation “expressed support for the Afghan people’s demands for their rights to be respected and for their voices to shape the future of the country”, particularly for women, girls, and “vulnerable communities”, it added. Centre Says Ready For Discussion On Manipur In Parliament Today

Parliament proceedings have been affected by the opposition’s demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak on the Manipur ethnic conflict in parliament.

New Delhi: The government is set to introduce a bill in parliament this week for control of services and officers’ posting in Delhi, setting up the stage for a showdown with the opposition. The bill was earlier an ordinance.

Kapil Dev didn’t mince his words as he questioned the commitments of Indian stars who participate in IPL but take rest from national team duties when facing minor injuries.

The 1983 World Cup winner isn’t a pleased man, having seen how Indian cricket has evolved over the last few years. With injuries to key players hurting the team’s performances in mega events, Kapil questioned the commitments of Indian stars, suggesting they would not mind playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) with minor injuries but when it comes to doing the same for the national team, they would prefer to sit out.

Kapil questioned the progression status of marquee pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of the Indian team for about a year. With the clock for the ODI World Cup already ticking, Kapil feels it would be a waste of time if Bumrah doesn’t recover in time for the mega event. “What happened to Bumrah? He started working with so much belief, but if he’s not there (in World Cup semi-final/final)... we wasted time on him. Rishabh Pant... such a great cricketer. Had he been there, our Test cricket would’ve been better,” Kapil said.

RPF Constable’s Rampage on JaipurMumbai Train: 4 Dead

The government on Monday agreed to a discussion on the Manipur issue in the Rajya Sabha at 2 pm, but the opposition insisted on a debate only under Rule 267 of the House, forcing the chairman to adjourn proceedings till noon. Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha rulebook allows for the suspension of the day’s business to debate on any issue suggested by a member.

“We want discussions on Manipur to take place in Parliament today at 2 pm. They (Opposition) are trying to misuse the liberty given to the members. The government is ready to discuss Manipur, but they (Opposition) have already spoiled nine important days of the House,” Union Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal said. Parliament proceedings have been affected by the opposition’s

demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak on the Manipur ethnic conflict in parliament. Home Minister Amit Shah has clearly said he was ready to respond to a discussion in parliament on the Manipur matter. But the opposition turned down Mr Shah’s offer, and moved a no-confidence motion against the government as a last bid to make PM Modi speak on the Manipur violence in parliament. Another issue -- the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill -- has become a rallying point for a united opposition against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Jewel thieves targeting Indians, South Asians in Massachusetts: Report

New York, July 31 (IANS) Indian and South Asian families in several towns of the US state of Massachusetts are being increasingly targeted by thieves for their expensive jewelleries, a media report said.

According to CBS News, the robbery cases are now being investigated by the law enforcement, including the FBI, who are looking into incidents in Billerica, Natick, Weston, Wellesley, Easton and North Attleboro towns of Massachusetts. Calling these “opportunity crimes”, Middlesex District Attorney Marian

Ryan said the “sophisticated” thieves target homes whose owners have gone for a period of time. Ryan said that the homeowners are watched, or their whereabouts noted on social media. No artwork or electronics are taken and there are few traces of the crime, he said.

Consulate General Of India, Chicago, Hosts Poetic Tribute On Kargil Vijay Divas

CHICAGO, IL- On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas, the Consulate General of India, Chicago, organized a touching poetry session titled “Ek Sham Shaheedon Ke Naam” on the evening of 27th July.

The event began with a solemn moment of one-minute silence, observed as a mark of deep respect to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Consul General Somnath Ghosh shared heartfelt words, reminiscing about the immense sacrifices made by our brave Indian soldiers during the Kargil conflict.

A special guest at the event was Col. (Retd.) Dr. V.P. Singh, a highly esteemed Hindi poet, who served in the Indian Army as a physician.

Dr. Singh emotionally recited his poignant poems, narrating the valor and sacrifices he witnessed during his time as an army doctor. His collection of poems dedicated to the heroes of Kargil, “Raktanjali,” was first released

on Kargil Vijay Diwas in 2011 by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The power and depth of Dr. V.P. Singh’s poetry resonated with the audience,

In contrast, states like Texas and Florida gained the biggest IRS tax benefits from people moving in. Florida experienced a $12.4 billion increase in tax revenue, and Texas followed closely with $10.7 billion from migrating residents. Arizona also ranked in the top three with $9.4 billion.

The study revealed that more than 40% of Californians were considering leaving the state, with reasons ranging from high taxes and the cost of living to political and cultural factors.

This was not the only occasion where Dr. Singh shared his evocative poetry. He is scheduled to recite his poignant verses once again at the 21st biennial convention organized by the International Hindi Association (Indiana Chapter) on 29th July 2023 in Indianapolis. Furthermore, on Sunday, 30th July, Dr. V.P. Singh will also be part of the Kavi Sammelan organized by the UP Association at Ashyana Banquets in Downers Grove, Illinois. These poetry sessions serve as a beautiful tribute to the gallant souls who gave their all for the country and continue to inspire and unite us in their memory.

33% Indian Americans Okay To Return To India; 76% View India Favorably

NEW YORK, NY- According to a study by MyEListing.com, New York and California experienced the largest loss of tax income from migration compared to other states, as residents left these deep-blue havens in significant numbers. California lost more than $340 million in IRS tax revenue in 2021 due to residents moving out.

High personal income tax rates and the high cost of living

Florida saw a significant influx of new residents, with about 319,000 Americans moving there, reflecting the economic principle that money goes where it is treated best.

Overall, California lost $29 billion in adjusted gross income in 2021 due to migration out of the state, while New York lost $25 billion. In contrast, Florida’s income increased by 39%, gaining $39 billion in 2021, with a substantial portion of that gain coming from residents leaving New York.

A new survey has given some insights on how Indians living in America view their country of origin. The Pew Research Center conducted a new study which traces how Asians feel about the homelands to which they trace their heritage, as well as about the U.S. The study revealed — Seventysix percent of Indian adults have a favorable opinion of India, compared with 23 percent of other Asian adults, a gap of 53 percentage points. When asked whether they would ever move to India, 33 percent of Indian adults say they would, the remaining 65 percent of Indian adults said the opposite. Immigrants who have been in the U.S. for less time are particularly likely to be open to moving back relative to those who have been in the U.S. for longer.

NYC’s Restrictive Policies Leave Migrants And Asylum Seekers Homeless And Vulnerable

NEW YORK, NY- The tall white building in Brooklyn, designed to appear like a modern living space, houses about a thousand migrant men each night, with the capacity for hundreds more. This new mega shelter has quickly become one of New York City’s largest, but it’s already facing accusations of abuse.

Mayor Eric Adams has been warning that the city’s shelter system is overwhelmed, having received over 90,000 people in the past year. To challenge this, his administration is contesting New York’s right to shelter law in court, which mandates providing a safe haven to anyone in need, regardless of immigration status.

Amidst these changes, the shelter, located in the upscale Clinton Hill

neighborhood, is referred to as an “emergency respite center” rather than a shelter, signaling a shift in policy. However, activists argue that this center’s conditions are dire, with overcrowded zones, limited bathroom facilities, and inadequate food. Asylum seekers in the shelter complain about mistreatment by security guards and verbal insults. The lack of access to food and basic amenities adds to their struggles. NPR attempted to

reach the New York City government for comment on these accusations but received no response.

For decades, New York City has been known as a welcoming destination for immigrants, providing shelter regardless of immigration status. However, the new policies are disheartening for advocates who see it as a devastating change.

For many migrants and asylum seekers, this shelter is not their first encounter with the city’s system, but it seems to be

the tipping point. Some prefer to sleep under a nearby highway overpass or join a homeless camp rather than stay in the new site.

Federal immigration bureaucracy complicates matters further, as asylum seekers face delays in obtaining work permits, leaving many to resort to unconventional ways of earning a living, such as renting scooters for food delivery.

The situation remains challenging, and the hope for the federal government to lend their authority and enable asylum seekers to receive lawful work permits upon entering the United States seems distant. As the men struggle with their circumstances, the stark image of asylum seekers delivering meals under the bridge stands as a dystopian symbol of their situation.

WASHINGTON, DC- In March 2023, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) conducted an initial random selection of properly submitted electronic registrations for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 H-1B cap, including those eligible for the advanced degree exemption. Only the petitioners with selected registrations for FY 2024 are allowed to file H-1B cap-subject petitions. The initial filing period for those selected registrations was from April 1, 2023, through June 30, 2023.

However, due to the need to meet the FY 2024 numerical allocations, USCIS has determined that additional registrations must be selected. These additional registrations will be chosen from the pool of previously submitted electronic registrations using another random selection process. Once this second selection process is complete, USCIS will notify all prospective petitioners with selected registrations from this round. These individuals will be informed that they are eligible to file an H-1B cap-subject petition for the beneficiary mentioned in the applicable selected registration. For those with selected registrations, USCIS will update their myUSCIS accounts to include a selection notice. This notice will provide all the necessary details regarding when and where to file the H-1B cap-subject petition.

On July 21, 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Baltimore seized a shipment of 13,660 suspected counterfeit canvas-topped sneakers bound for Los Angeles. The sneakers violated Converse's trademarked midsole design and, if authentic, would have been valued at over $314,000. The shipment arrived from China and was labeled as "shoes." CBP officers detained the sneakers on June 23 due to suspicions of counterfeiting and verified the violation with CBP's Intellectual Property Enforcement Branch on June 27. Although CBP has seized the counterfeit Converse sneakers, no criminal charges have been filed thus far. CBP's Area Port Director for Baltimore, Adam Rottman, highlighted the risks counterfeit goods pose to consumers' health and finances, urging them to purchase authentic products from reputable sources. Counterfeiting not only harms trademark holders and tax revenues but also supports transnational criminal organizations and may involve unsafe manufacturing practices, including forced labor. CBP enforces a robust Intellectual Property Rights program to protect businesses and consumers from counterfeit goods. In fiscal year 2022, CBP and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) seized nearly 21,000 shipments containing over 25 million counterfeit items, with an estimated value exceeding $2.98 billion (USD). HSI's efforts led to numerous arrests and convictions related to intellectual property crimes in 2022.

To report suspected counterfeits, individuals can use CBP's online e-Allegations portal or call 1-800-BE-ALERT. More information is available on CBP's Truth Behind Counterfeits website and StopFakes.gov. CBP's primary mission at Ports of Entry is to safeguard public safety, U.S. businesses, and the nation's economic vitality by screening international travelers and cargo for illicit items, including counterfeit consumer goods.

The Mythological basis of Adhik Maas is related to a notorious demon king named Hiranyakashipu, who had a boon from Lord Shiva that he could not be killed in any of the twelve months. To overcome this, Lord Vishnu created an additional month in which he ultimately defeated and killed Hiranyakashipu

and killed Hiranyakashipu. This special month is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and it is believed that any good deed performed during this time will yield ten times the rewards compared to a normal month.

In the Sanatana Dharma, it is believed that this month is highly auspicious for acquiring merits through various spiritual practices such as good deeds, japa (chanting), meditation, Katha recitation (religious storytelling), spiritual austerities, Abhishekam (ritual bathing of deities), Havan (fire rituals),

and Dana (charity). Listening to Bhajans (devotional songs) is also considered beneficial. Worship and religious duties performed with a pious and devoted mind during this month are believed to bring positive results.

The temple has organized three different Havans: Devi Havan, Lord Shiva Havan, and Lord Vishnu Havan, along with four Abhishekams for Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, Lord Ram, and Lord Narasimha. During the Abhishekam and Alankarams (decoration) of the deities, the sponsors and their families actively

NEW YORK, NY- Migrants seeking shelter in the NYC system have faced significant challenges, with many being unable to find beds and resorting to sleeping on the streets outside the Roosevelt Hotel intake center. The situation has worsened due to the newly implemented Adams administration rule that limits shelter stays to 60 days, resulting in more crowded conditions at the Midtown intake center.

Power Malu, an activist associated with Artists, Athletes, and Activists, revealed that most of the migrants forced to sleep on the streets are waiting for an available bed in the shelter system. While waiting, they have had to find makeshift sleeping arrangements in public spaces such as sidewalks or trains.

The predicament arises from migrants’ fear of leaving the area at night to find other places to sleep, as they worry about losing their spot in line and missing the chance to secure shelter. As a result, many migrants have chosen to stay near the Roosevelt Hotel, hoping to receive a call indicating a bed is available for them.

These migrants have primarily crossed the southern border seeking asylum,

further highlighting the complexities of the immigration system. Although some migrants have successfully secured shelter through this approach, many others have not been as fortunate. Those who go to the Roosevelt Hotel for shelter placement often get turned away and advised to try their luck at the 30th Street homeless intake center. However, even at this center, they face additional barriers, as their immigration status prevents them from receiving assistance. This situation raises questions about the right to shelter and the support available to those in need.

Power Malu asserted that the city’s claim of offering sleeping arrangements while migrants wait for shelter placement is not entirely accurate. According to him, they are only offered a respite site when a spot becomes available. The lack of adequate options has shed light on the flaws in the system, and those affected feel punished for seeking help.

CHICAGO, IL –U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Chicago O’Hare’s International Mail Branch seized two packages of counterfeit designer apparel on July 28. The packages contained a total of 614 pieces of fake products with a combined Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $795,175 if they were genuine. The first shipment arrived from Thailand and contained 565 pieces of jewelry, handbags, and other apparel with logos from luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, Prada, and Van Cleef & Arpels. The estimated MSRP for these items would have been $689,160 had they been authentic. The second shipment, also from Thailand, was heading to Dallas, Texas, and consisted of counterfeit jewelry, handbags, watches, caps, and socks displaying logos from brands like Tiffany and Co., Rolex, Yves St. Laurent, Hermes, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Versace, and Dior. If these items were real, their MSRP would have been $106,015.

Hindus Seek Apology From Baskin-Robbins For Non-Disclosure Of Beef In Ice Cream

RENO, NV- Hindus are asking for an official apology from Baskin-Robbins for non-disclosure of beef in its “Rocky Road” ice cream; and its immediate recall. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that it was shocking for Hindus to learn that popular “Rocky Road”, which they had been eating for years, contained beef; while beef was not explicitly mentioned under the ingredients listed on the packages/boxes. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stated that “Rocky Road” contained gelatin, but the source of gelatin was not mentioned under the “Ingredients” on packages/boxes. When Zed contacted Baskin Robbins, Customer Relations Coordinator Katie responded: “The gelatin in Rocky Road

is from both porcine and beef source”. Consumption of beef is highly conflicting to Hindu beliefs. Cow, the seat of many deities, is sacred and has long been venerated in Hinduism; Rajan Zed points out. It was a very

Now was the time for Baskin-Robbins to admit their error of not being transparent enough to mention in clear and simple terms what was inside the package/box so that an ordinary consumer could make

BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham’s Blood Drive Touches 75 Days Of Hope

ATLANTA, GA – Georgia drivers might be in for a shock when heading to the gas pump on Monday, as the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has jumped to $3.55, according to AAA reports. This reflects a 19-cent increase compared to a week ago and 33 cents more than the same time in June. However, there is a silver lining, as it’s still cheaper than prices around this time in 2022. To fill up a regular 15-gallon tank, drivers should expect to pay about $53.25, which is $4 less than a year ago. The increase in pump prices

This is because the cost of oil accounts for more than 50% of what drivers pay at the pumps. Despite the rising prices, Georgia’s average gas price is still 20 cents cheaper than the national average of $3.75. In the Peach State, the most expensive places to fill up are Atlanta, where gas prices are at $3.59 per gallon, followed by Savannah at $3.56, and the Augusta-Aiken area at $3.53.

For those looking for cheaper gas options, Albany offers the best deal at $3.47 per gallon, followed by Rome at $3.46, and Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $3.45.

Shardul Shines Beyond World Cup Qualification

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur said he is not among those who play for a spot in the World Cup but remains committed to making a significant impact in helping the team win.

On Tuesday, Thakur showcased his prowess with a remarkable spell, taking four wickets for 37 runs. His performance played a crucial role in dismantling the West Indies batting line-up as India secured a massive 200-run victory in the final ODI, ultimately clinching the three-match series 2-1.

"I don't think that way, I am not playing only to seal a spot in the World Cup. I am not that type of a player. If I keep that (World Cup spot) in mind and play, I won't be able to play well," Shardul told reporters after the match.

"If I don't get picked for the World Cup, it's their (selectors) call. I can't do much about it. Very wrong of me to think that I should play to seal a spot, I will do just enough and go. I want to perform for the team, perform according to the situations. Whatever happens, I will always play to help the team win and make an impact in helping the team win," he added.

Bilawal Panel to Decide Pakistan's ODI WC Fate

U.S. win 3 gold medals as China tops final medal table

New Delhi: (IANS) The Bilawal Bhuttoled committee, appointed by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, will meet on Thursday to decide on the country's participation in the ODI World Cup in India, starting from October 5. The committee, led by Pakistan's Foreign Affairs Minister and the chairman of the Pakistan People's Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also includes Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari,

Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Tariq Fatmi, a former diplomat. They are expected to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the hosts, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to permit a security delegation to visit the venues, where the Pakistan team will play, a Cricbuzz report stated. "A high-profile meeting will decide on the World Cup participation," a top PCB official was quoted as saying.

Hussain Supports Broad's Ashes Retirement Decision

London: (IANS) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has hailed Stuart Broad for retiring at the top of his game after the veteran pacer enjoyed a memorable end to his career in his final international match. Broad dropped a bombshell at the end of Day 3 of the final Ashes Test against Australia by announcing his decision to retire from international cricket at the end of the series. With a jaw-dropping 604 wickets as a pacer in the longest format, Broad walked into the sunset as one of the greatest players in modern-day Test cricket. Even in his last series, he finished

with 22 wickets, the highest for any England bowler at this year's Ashes. While announcing his retirement, Broad expressed that he could have carried on playing but chose not to.

England Clinches Final Ashes Test, Secures Series Draw 2-2

Stuart Broad took the last two wickets of the Australia innings in a perfect farewell to international cricket as England won the final Ashes Test by 49 runs at The Oval on Monday.

Ben Stokes’ men thus secured a 2-2 series draw with an afternoon of brilliant bowling, including wickets in four consecutive overs.

Australia had already retained the coveted Urn but missed out on claiming their first Ashes series win in England since 2001.

They won the first two Tests but lost the third and had looked set to lose the fourth until two days of almost uninterrupted rain led to a draw.

The fifth Test was finely poised going

into the final afternoon, with Australia batting their way steadily past 250 as they chased a huge target of 384.

But after a lengthy rain delay England’s bowlers came out and took the remaining seven wickets for 70 runs to claim the win.

Chris Woakes was the most successful bowler with 4/50 while Moeen Ali,

England dismissed four Australian batters within 11 runs to reduce the visitors to 275/7 after tea to dramatically turn the tables

who played his last Test, took 3/76. The Wizard, as Woakes is called, was England’s Player of the Series. Mitchell Starc was Australia’s Player of the Series. England dismissed four Australian batters within 11 runs to reduce the visitors to 275/7 after tea to dramatically turn the tables. Steve Smith and Travis Head were going great guns then and had forged a 95-run partnership for the fourth wicket in their chase of 384.

Fukuoka (Japan): (IANS) The United States wrapped up the World Aquatics Championships with their most successful day, clinching three of the six titles available. However, China topped the final standings with a total of 20 gold medals.

The U.S. swim team, victors of 14 gold medals at last year's Budapest World Championships, took home seven this time, supplementing their tally with 20 silver medals and 11 bronze. Leading the U.S. charge was world record holder Hunter Armstrong, who spearheaded a 1-2 finish in the men's 50m backstroke with a time of 24.05 seconds.

Bumrah Returns to Lead India in T20Is against Ireland after 11 Months

Jasprit Bumrah is finally back in the Indian squad after missing almost 11 months of action because of a back injury and subsequent surgery. The pacer will lead in the T20I series in Ireland. He was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for the past two months under the watchful eyes of VVS Laxman, the NCA chief, who is set to take charge as head coach for the three T20Is.

Ricky Ponting Calls for Investigation Amid 'BallChange Controversy' in Ashes

After the conclusion of the 5th Test at the Oval, a controversy has erupted over England's ball-change tactic on the final day of the match. In fact, Australian batter Usman Khawaja and former captain Ricky Ponting have come out saying they weren't happy with the replacement ball used by Ben Stokes' men. After the conclusion of the match, Ponting expressed his frustration as the suggested that the replacement ball used in the 37th over wasn't a match for the ball that was being replaced.

4th August to 10th August 2023

Aries

Ganesha says that this week is for auspiciousness and success for Aries. From the beginning of the week, your planned tasks will be seen to be completed on time.

Taurus

Ganesha says that the first week of August is going to be favorable for the people of Taurus. This week you will be able to easily solve all those problems, due to which you were troubled for the past few days.

Gemini

The best sneakers of 2023 are looking back in time and feeling nostalgic. Across the board, sneakers are having a throwback moment, resurrecting styles we have come to love. From the beloved Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 going viral to the ubiquitous presence of the crowd-pleasing Adidas Sambas, sneakers from the past are sneaking up on us. While some have a new avatar owing to a trendy collaboration, others are underrated stars lying dormant until now.

Ganesha says that the natives of Gemini will heave a sigh of relief at the beginning of the week when some major problem will go away. Removal of the enemy, fear, or obstacle will give peace to the mind. Misunderstandings arising with seniors or juniors in the workplace will be removed.

Cancer

Ganesha says that the first week of August is going to be very important for Cancerians. At the beginning of the week, you can take a big decision related to your career, business, or life. You can get a big relief related to the matter related to the court, which was causing trouble for some time.

Leo

Adidas Samba

Circa now, the Adidas Samba is ubiquitous. No Instagram scroll is complete without a sighting of this streetwear icon. First introduced in 1950, the shoe has seen many-aupdates with cool collaborations, the most recent being with Wales Bonner. The collab fuelled the resurgence and rise of the silhouette as the British designer reworked the classic style in premium suede and toffee shades. It reiterates what we knew was true all along – the sleek and slender-looking sneakers pair well with everything and are super-easy to style.

Pumping out one collab after another, the three-way collab between Kith, Clarks, and Adidas is another big one. This Samba iteration features a thick crepe sole borrowed from Clark’s design language and is retailing at a

whopping $1,000 — if you can get your hands on it in the first place.

Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG' Year of the Rabbit'

2023 is the year of the rabbit as per the lunar calendar, and Nike is honouring the year with its Air Jordan 1 Low OG "Year of the Rabbit." Limited to just 5000 pairs, the sneaker has a fuzzy suede and leather panelled upper with bunny-inspired furry and frayed laces. In neutral shades of brown, white, sail and grey, it is easily one of the best and most wearable sneakers we've seen in a minute.

Ganesha says that this week is going to be mixed for Leo people. At the beginning of the week, due to an argument with a dear person, the mind will be a little sad and upset. To avoid any such situation this week, you have to control your speech and nature.

Virgo

Ganesha says that this week is going to be like the fulfillment of dreams for the people of Virgo. Due to this, there will be an atmosphere of happiness in the house and respect will increase in society. At the beginning of the week, you can go on a pilgrimage or a tourist area with your family.

Libra

Ganesha says that people of the Libra zodiac should do their work themselves instead of leaving it to others this week. If you do business in partnership, then keep a close eye on money-related matters and business, otherwise you may have

to face a big financial loss.

Scorpio

Ganesha says that the people of Scorpio will need to be cautious of known-unknown enemies and opponents this week. In such a situation, be very careful while doing any work. Before the completion of your plans in the workplace, do not disclose them in any form, otherwise, your opponent may create obstacles in them.

Sagittarius

Ganesha says that this week can sometimes be happy and sometimes sad for the people of Sagittarius. At the beginning of the week, where your mind will be happy with the great success of a family member and his progress will increase your respect, on the other hand, in your own field of work, your opponents will try to disturb you by putting obstacles in your work.

Capricorn

Ganesha says that the problems that have been troubling you for the past few weeks are going to persist this week as well. In such a situation, you will need to find a solution to them with great patience and discretion.

Aquarius

Ganesha says that the people of Aquarius will continue to need extra effort and hard work this week to complete their work on time in the workplace. At the beginning of the week, your planned work will be completed on time and you will get full support from your best friends, but in the middle of the work, any sudden big obstacle will become a big reason for your suffering.

Pisces

Ganesha says that the people of Pisces will get full support of good luck this week. At the beginning of the week, journeys made in connection with career business will prove to be pleasant and profitable. A meeting with an influential person this week will become a big reason for future profits. At the beginning of the week, any worship recitation or auspicious program can be held at home. During this, most of your time will be spent on religious-social works. Employed people will get respect in the workplace.

“Shocked To Find Out...”: Atishi

Atishi said she, on Friday evening, reviewed the status of the ₹ 10,000 relief aid to be given to flood affected citizens of Delhi with the Principal Secretary of Revenue Ashwini Kumar and the concerned officers of the Revenue Department.

“I was shocked to find that, out of 4,716 families who were staying in relief camps during the flood, only 197 families have received the 10,000 ex gratia relief of the Delhi Government,” she wrote.

New Delhi: A 21-member opposition delegation reached Manipur today to assess the ground situation in the northeastern state where ethnic violence has been raging for nearly three months. The delegation includes Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Gaurav Gogoi of the Congress, Sushmita Dev of the Trinamool,

DMK’s Kanimozhi, RJD’s Manoj Kumar Jha, and JDU chief Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, among others. This is their first visit to the state since the formation of the Opposition front INDIA. The Opposition leaders, on a two-day visit, landed in Imphal this afternoon. They will take a chopper to Churachandpur where they will meet the Kuki tribe

leaders, civil society and women groups, said sources. The delegation will also visit relief camps and meet the victims of violence before returning to Imphal where they will meet the members of the Meitei community, sources added. The BJP has slammed the Opposition MPs and reiterated the alleged crimes against women in Rajasthan and West Bengal. “This is just optics. When this I.N.D.I.A. returns from Manipur, I want to ask Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury if he supports the crimes against women in his state West Bengal. Will these 20 MPs of I.N.D.I.A. Who is Hirsh Singh? The latest Indian American Presidential candidate

The pool of Indian American candidates hoping for the American Presidency seems to be getting bigger. The latest entrant in this pool is Hirsh Singh. Politician Hirsh Singh recently announced a bid to seek the Republican nomination for US president in 2024. Singh in his announcement said, “I’m the only pure-blood candidate for president because I never gave in to the Covid vaccinations.”

Singh described himself as: America First constitutional carry and pro-life conservative who helped restore the conservative wing of New Jersey’s Republican Party starting in 2017.

Sikh Cop In New York Not Allowed To Grow Beard For Wedding: Report

Sikh men are required to not trim their beard, a custom that clashes with the New York state police grooming rules of keeping a shaved look.

An ardent supporter of President Trump, Singh also said: “While President Trump was undoubtedly the greatest president of my lifetime and had my support as a MAGA Republican since day one, America needs more.” Singh belong to Atlantic City in NJ and he did his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2009. His parents are Indian immigrants. His father had a business specializing in missile defense, satellite navigation and aviation security. An aerospace engineer, Singh was awarded the Aviation Ambassador in 2003 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

US Lawmakers Push to Expedite Indian Green Card Priority Dates”

At the Barracuda Championship in California on Sunday. The Los Angeles-born young player beat Patrick Rodgers at Tahoe Mountain Club to seal full status on the PGA Tour having played the Barracuda event under special temporary membership based on previous results including a second-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open in March. In the past, Bhatia became the youngest American selected for the prestigious Walker Cup that pits leading US amateurs against players from Britain and Ireland.

New York: The New York State Police has been accused of barring one of its personnel, a Sikh, to grow a beard despite state law requiring employers to allow workers to follow religious grooming obligations, reported Associated Press. Charanjot Tiwana, a State Trooper, had sought to grow his beard half an inch for his wedding in 2022, but was denied due to safety reasons regarding the use of a gas mask, according to New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association. Sikh men are required to wear a turban and not trim their hair or beard as part of their religious commitment, a

custom that clashes with the state police grooming rules of keeping short hair and a shaved look. Mr Tiwana, a state trooper for six years, had not formally sought permission to wear a turban while on duty in view of the refusal to grow a beard, said the union’s president Charlie Murphy. “All New Yorkers, including law enforcement officers, must be free from employer oppression when practicing their religion,” AP quoted him as saying.

A NYSP spokesperson has declined to comment on the details though the cops confirmed Mr Tiwana’s request. Deanna Cohen, police spokesperson, said the department values diversity and inclusion among its ranks and engages in reasonable accommodation process. According to her, NYSP is also working on a turban policy.

A group of US lawmakers has urged the Biden administration to take executive action to make priority dates current for Green Card applicants from India to reduce the 195-year-long wait period which has left them in a constant state of limbo. Led by Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi and Larry Bucshon, the bipartisan group of 56 lawmakers sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas requesting the administration take executive action to provide relief to high-skilled employment-based visa holders.

In love?

What’s happening in your brain

People go to extremes for love. Science says it’s love itself, a chemical concoction in the brain, that makes us do it

Who would have thought that the Taj Mahal in India — one of the world's greatest monuments and declarations of love — was the result of organic chemicals going crazy in Shah Jahan's brain?

Shah Jahan was a Mughal emperor of India in the 1600s and built the Taj Mahal for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who had died in childbirth.

The Taj Mahal is a unique complex of buildings, an architectural wonder. But the love chemicals — the hormones and neurotransmitters — racing in Shah Jahan's brain were not at all unique. They can be found in every one of our brains.

Love can make us do crazy things, be it ignoring red flags about your partner that your friends can see, or showing up at your lover's house at midnight, or flying across the seven seas to be with them, rather than your family.

But what's crazier than that is that while this is happening on the outside, a whole other craziness is brewing right inside our minds.

Love is… a concoction of hormones and neurotransmitters

There are different kinds of chemicals in our brains. Some are known as neurotransmitters, and they help us live our lives and do the things we want to do.

Neurotransmitters are like tiny messengers that pass information from one neuron to another. A neuron is a basic cell of the nervous system, without which we wouldn't be able to function — use our senses, think, speak, or move our limbs.

Then there are hormones, which are part of the endocrine system: a group of glands, such as the thyroid but also the ovaries and testes.

Now let's look at how hormones and neurotransmitters differ in more detail.

How hormones and neurotransmitters function

Hormones are usually produced by the endocrine system, as we've said. That includes our sex organs. They control involuntary actions — the actions we need to stay alive but don't control consciously — such as our breathing. They regulate our growth, development, reproduction, food metabolism, body temperature and moods. They act relatively slowly and have distant targets in the body, which they reach by traveling through the blood.

Neurotransmitters in the nervous system are mostly lightning-fast and act locally. They can bring about instant changes in our brains. They are responsible for carrying signals from one neuron to the next — that could be a nerve cell, a muscle cell or a gland.

Love is... a union of two systems

As in love itself — which you might call a union of two souls — hormones and neurotransmitters come together as a union of two systems: the endocrine and nervous systems.

They are linked via a region in the brain known as the hypothalamus.

Both systems influence and help each other to perform: hormones can sometimes act as neurotransmitters, and the opposite is true as well.

The three stages of love

Some scientists theorize that romantic love is not an emotion, but a motivation system. They say that

because they've done brain scans with couples in love and found brain activity in areas that involve motivation and goal-oriented behaviors. That theory led a team of scientists, headed by the biological anthropologist Helen Fisher to divide romantic love into three categories: lust, attraction and attachment.

The categories aren't exclusive: you don't have to confine your feelings for your "bae" to only one of the categories. It can be a mix, just like the chemicals in our brains.

Lust is about sexual feeling

The brain's hypothalamus plays an important role in lust by inducing the sexual organs to produce the hormones testosterone and estrogen.

Testosterone is often considered a "male hormone," but it's been shown to increase sex drive, or libido, in both women and men. That said, some studies suggest that men have reduced levels of testosterone in romantic love.

Attraction is an edgy time in love

When we're first attracted to someone, we feel anxious and excited at the same time. That's due to the stress hormone, cortisol.

There's also a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine, which helps maintain our blood pressure but increases our alertness, arousal and attention.

Norepinephrine is the reason why we feel butterflies in our stomach and have sleepless nights in love. But we feel pleasure when dopamine — part of the so-called "reward pathway" in our brains — is released. Nearly everything we enjoy, be it shopping, sex or listening to music, involves dopamine.
