Justice Dept. Warns Musk: $1M Giveaway May Be Illegal
presidential bid, is giving cash prizes to registered voters who sign a petition.
The Justice Department sent a letter to the super PAC founded by Elon Musk this week warning that awarding $1 million to registered voters who signed a petition might violate federal laws against paying voters, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
Similar warning letters from the department’s public integrity unit have been sent to businesses and organizations that tied promotions to voting and are intended to suggest that continuing such an activity could result in a criminal investigation. The letters typically do not outline the department’s next steps and are intended to force the recipient to make changes to conform with the law.
A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment. Mr. Musk, the super PAC and its lawyer did not offer a comment on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The news was first reported by the 24Sight newsletter.

US to Unveil Tougher Sanctions on Russia: Treasury Secretary
Washington: The United States is set to announce "strong new sanctions" as early as next week, with targets including parties in countries that support Russia's military, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Tuesday. "We will unveil strong new sanctions targeting those facilitating the Kremlin's war machine, including intermediaries in third countries that are supplying Russia with critical inputs for its military," she said in opening remarks to a press conference. Her comments come as world financial leaders gather in Washington this week for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
Kamala Harris: Trump Unfit for Presidency
Harris, who became the Democratic nominee for the race of White House around 100 days to Election Day after President Joe Biden backed out, said this a day after Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly called him a “fascist” and “dictator”.
With the US
Presidential election around the corner, the scathing attack by competitors is at its peak as the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has called Republican candidate Donald Trump as “unfit” for the candidature of President of the United States.
Harris, while talking to reporters at her residence in Washington said, “Yesterday we learned that Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, a retired four-star general, confirmed that while Donald Trump was president, he said he wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had.”
Harris, who became the Democratic nominee for the race of White House around 100 days to Election Day after President Joe Biden backed out, said this a day after Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly called him a “fascist” and “dictator”.
Kelly had said in an interview to
US top diplomat issues warning to Israel over Gaza aid
New York Times that “Certainly, the former president is in the far-right area, he’s certainly an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators — he has said that. So, he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.”
Vice President Harris further said, “Donald Trump said that because he does not want a military that is loyal to the United States Constitution. He wants a military that is loyal to him. He wants a military who will be loyal to him personally, one that will obey his orders even when he tells them to break the law or abandon their oath to the Constitution of the United States.” The countdown to November 5 election has begun and various polls by agencies and news organisation suggests that it will be a tight fight and the polls will go down to the wires in order for a final winner to emerge, as some polls show Harris ahead with a slight margin and some suggest Trump’s victory.
US "Absolutely" Ready For First Woman President: Kamala Harris
US: Kamala Harris said Tuesday that America is "absolutely" ready to elect its first woman president but downplayed her historic bid, saying she simply wants to turn the page for a nation "exhausted" by Donald Trump.
With two weeks to Election Day, Harris and Trump are saturating swing states with rallies and taking to the airwaves and podcasts on the hunt for an advantage in a race that polls suggest is effectively tied.
Speaking on the national NBC network, Harris responded "absolutely" when
asked if America was ready to elect its first woman -- but also noted her candidacy was about "turning the page."
"People are exhausted with Donald Trump and his approach, because it's all about himself," she said. Trump, speaking to supporters in North Carolina, pitched a very different message.
"This election is a choice between whether we will have four more years of incompetence, failure and disaster, or whether we'll begin the four greatest years in the history of our country," he said to cheers.
Antony Blinken has told Israeli leaders that “much more needs to be done” to get humanitarian aid to civilians in besieged northern Gaza, raising possible consequences in US law if action isn’t taken, a senior Biden administration official says.
On Tuesday, the US secretary of state met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and senior military officials in a series of meetings in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Games in Albuquerque in 2019.
Julia Hawkins, who took up running after her 100th birthday and went on to set world records in the 100-meter dash, inspiring legions of older athletes, died on Tuesday in Baton Rouge, La. She was 108. Her death, in an assisted living center, was confirmed by her daughter Margaret Matens, who said that her mother had arranged to donate her body to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University, which is studying longevity. Ms. Hawkins was a force on the track, with her trademark flower tucked behind her ear and her arms driving behind her as she shuffled up her lane. She drew loud cheers from fans, who nicknamed her “Hurricane,” and frequent autograph requests. Beloved by senior runners for her quick legs and her even quicker wit, Ms. Hawkins credited her children with introducing her to running. Her sons signed her up for her first track-and-field event, a 50-meter dash, in 2016, Ms. Hawkins said in an interview for this obituary in 2022.

TikTok owner sacks intern for sabotaging AI project
Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion followed by gunfire, raising alarms about the security situation in the area.
“I condemn this heinous terrorist attack and wish mercy on our martyrs,” President Tayyip Erdogan said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the sidelines of a BRICS meeting in Kazan, Russia.
Putin offered his condolences over the attack. John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House’s national security council, told reporters that US “strongly condemns” Wednesday’s attack.
“Although we do not yet know the motive or the exact perpetrators, we strongly denounce this violent act.”
It was not clear who may be behind the attack. Kurdish militants, the Islamic State group and leftist extremists have carried out attacks in the country in the past.
TikTok owner, ByteDance, says it has sacked an intern for "maliciously interfering" with the training of one of its artificial intelligence (AI) models. But the firm rejected claims about the extent of the damage caused by the unnamed individual, saying they "contain some exaggerations and inaccuracies".
It comes after reports about the incident spread over the weekend on social media.

'Border Peace, Mutual Trust And Respect Should Be Priority': PM Modi To Xi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held their first bilateral meeting since 2019 on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan. The meeting comes after a significant breakthrough in diplomatic and military talks aimed at restoring the pre-May 2020 status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) following the military stand-off in Ladakh. The talks marked a step toward de-escalation, four years after the Galwan Valley clash, with both nations agreeing on a new patrolling arrangement.
The discussions underscored an upturn in India-China relations after years of tensions, signaling a move toward stabilizing a region where both sides had heavily deployed troops.
PM Modi stated:
"Excellency, I am happy to meet you,

Valley Attack CCTV: Militants Used M4, AK-47; Stayed 7 Mins
CCTV footage of the October 20 terror attack on employees of a construction firm in Kashmir’s Ganderbal district shows two militants, carrying an American-made M4 carbine assault rifle and an AK-47, spending around seven minutes at the workers’ camp before fleeing the spot, it is learnt.
Officials said the footage suggests they were aware of the topography of the area.
Seven men — six from outside Kashmir and a local doctor — were killed in the attack. They were working for infrastructure company APCO Infratech, which is constructing the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway. The attack took place at the camp around
7.25 pm, when some employees were sitting in the dining area and others were heading for dinner. The camp is just below an approach road to the tunnel, and is surrounded by barren mountains on one side and the Srinagar-Leh national highway on the other.
Senior police officers as well as officers of the National Investigation Agency and other security agencies visited the spot following the attack. “There is no CCTV camera installed at the place where they first opened fire. CCTV captured the area where they headed next — the two can be seen entering and opening fire. They also attacked the mess before coming out and firing on more workers,” a source said. Initial investigation has also revealed that the attackers put a grenade inside a vehicle parked at the camp before shooting the driver. “After recording the statements of the injured persons and a security guard who managed to escape, it came to light that initially, the workers thought that some people were bursting firecrackers.
the last four years. Peace and stability along the border should be our priority, with mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity forming the basis of our relations. I hope our discussions today will be open-minded and constructive."

As ancient civilizations, major developing countries, and leaders in the Global South, we are at a crucial phase of modernization. It is in our mutual interest to align our bilateral relations with the trend of history, foster communication and cooperation, properly manage differences, and support each other's development. Let us contribute to multipolarity and democracy in international relations."

Modi's Thumbs Up with Putin, Xi at BRICS Summit: Unity After India-China Deal
HiIndia Newsdesk
16th Brics Summit in Russia: At an informal Brics Summit dinner in Kazan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a thumbs-up as Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping engaged in conversation, highlighting a moment of camaraderie among the leaders. This interaction between Modi and Xi comes at a time when India and China have reached an agreement on “patrolling arrangements” and resolved the military stand-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The moment also showcased the deepening ties between China and Russia, a bond that has grown stronger over the years, especially since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The visuals from the 16th Brics Summit also captured a friendly moment when Vladimir Putin greeted Narendra Modi with a handshake and a hug, showcasing their close relationship.

LAC Patrolling Agreement With New Delhi
After India, now China has also confirmed to have reached a border dispute settlement agreement with India. China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told a media briefing that both sides have reached a resolution and it will continue to work with New Delhi on the issue. "We have resolved the relevant matter, will work with the Indian side to implement the solution. We are in close communication through diplomatic and military channels," said Jian. On October 21, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that India has reached an agreement with China regarding patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The announcement came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kazan, Russia, for the 16th BRICS summit that
begins today and is scheduled to run till October 24. "This agreement is the outcome of extensive discussions over the past several weeks with Chinese interlocutors at both diplomatic and military levels," said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. He noted that military commanders have been involved in negotiations aimed at addressing the tensions that have persisted since 2020. Misri explained that the agreement signifies a path toward disengagement and a potential resolution of the issues that arose during the significant confrontations in 2020. "Now, as a result of the discussions over the last several weeks, an agreement has been reached on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas. This is leading to disengagement and eventually a resolution of the issues that arose in these areas in 2020," he said.
However, at the Brics gala dinner, President Putin was seated between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping, indicating a shift towards closer diplomatic relations among the three countries.

The agreement on patrolling along the LAC resulted from multiple diplomatic and military discussions between India and China.
This followed several meetings between senior leaders in recent months. External affairs minister S Jaishankar met Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kazakhstan on July 4 and during ASEAN-related meetings in Laos on July 25.

op officials in Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's administration handed over sensitive intelligence about India to US-based newspaper The Washington Post, just days before the Canadian police publicly linked Indian government agents to the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a report has claimed.
Sources told The Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper, that Nathalie Drouin, Trudeau's national security and intelligence adviser and David Morrison, deputy minister at Global Affairs, told the US publication about India's alleged interference operations in Canada a week before Thanksgiving.
The Post was told that the report should not be published until the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Mike Duheme holds a press conference, which took place on
Thanksgiving Day.
Notably, The Washington Post reported on the same day that Canada has linked India for the murder of Sukhdool Singh Gill (aka Sukha Duneke), a former gangster with links to terrorism. The report cited "Canadian officials" as the source of the information. The report named linked top government officials, claiming that they authorised such acts in Canada.
Gill's murder had taken place just two days after Trudeau had first accused India of being behind Nijjar's murder in Surrey, British Columbia.
India has vehemently denied all the charges of intereference by Canada as well as New Delhi's alleged role in the murder plot. In a hard-hitting statement, the ministry of external affairs has called out PM Trudeau for using these allegations to advance his own domestic political agenda.

Shortly after King Charles III had finished making remarks in Australia’s parliament on Monday, a voice rang out from the back of the hall. “You are not our king,” shouted Lidia Thorpe, an Indigenous senator and activist for Aboriginal rights. “Give us our land back. Give us what you stole from us.”
As security guards hustled Thorpe out of the chamber, she continued to heckle the king, demanding that Britain enter a treaty with Australia’s Indigenous population and accusing British colonisers of genocide. “Our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people,” said Thorpe, wearing a traditional possum skin cloak and shaking her fist at Charles, as the guards backed her towards the door. “You destroyed our land.” Once out of the room, Thorpe could be heard shouting an epithet about the British “colony” in Australia. The king watched impassively from the stage and along with his wife, Queen Camilla, left the reception later.
It was a jarring interruption of Charles’s first visit to Australia since becoming king in 2022, though from a familiar figure of protest in Australian politics. HSBC Names Indian-Origin Banker
Pam Kaur As Its First Woman CFO
Pam Kaur takes on her new role at a challenging time as interest rates fall and amid geopolitical tensions in key markets
HSBC Holdings Plc, which was founded by a Scotsman more than 150-years ago, named Pam Kaur the first female chief financial officer in its history.
The 60-year-old brings a long focus on auditing, risks, and compliance across almost four decades of banking career spanning various global lenders. She joined HSBC in April 2013 as internal audit head, coming aboard shortly after the bank admitted to anti-money laundering and sanctions violations and entered a deferred prosecution agreement with the US Justice department.
Ms Kaur, who was educated at Punjab University in India, takes on her new role at a challenging time as interest rates fall and amid geopolitical tensions in key markets, including China and Hong Kong.
The bank on Tuesday unveiled a broad restructuring across different business lines and geographies as newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Georges Elhedery embarks on ambitious cost cuts.
HSBC will have to find a way to shave off $2 billion in costs in order to sustain a key measure of the bank's profits, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.
"We had a strong bench of internal and external candidates to choose from and Pam was the exceptional candidate to recommend to the board," said Elhedery, who was elevated from CFO, in a statement.
Shares of HSBC slipped 0.4% at 1:03 p.m. in London.
Lidia Thorpe, Indigenous senator and activist for Aboriginal rights yelled at the Britain's King shortly after he finished his speech in Australia’s parliament
at the palace said, “Their majesties are deeply grateful to the very many thousands who turned out to support them, and are only sorry they didn’t have a chance to stop and talk to every single one. The warmth and scale of the reception was truly awesome.”
For Charles, the trip to Australia is his most ambitious foreign travel since the palace confirmed in February that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The king’s itinerary has been shaped to give him plenty of time for rest. After arriving in Sydney on Friday evening, Charles and Camilla took a day off on Saturday, before attending a church service on Sunday.
"We Support Dialogue And Diplomacy, Not War":
PM Modi At BRICS Summit
Prime Minister Modi also expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for hosting the BRICS Summit in Kazan and for his leadership of the bloc over the past 12 months.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said "India supports dialogue and diplomacy... and not war" as he spoke at a closeddoor plenary session of the BRICS Summit in Russia.
Mr Modi - who on Tuesday told Russia's Vladimir Putin, whose country is at war with Ukraine, that "all conflict can be solved with dialogue" - today told the bloc there are multiple challenges facing BRICS members and the world at large, and called for action on those fronts instead.
"Preventing inflation... ensuring food, energy, health, and water security... these are matters of priority for all countries in the world. And, in this era of technology, new challenges have emerged, like misinformation
(spread online) and cyber frauds like deepfakes..."
"At such a time, there are high expectations of the BRICS grouping and I believe that we, as a diverse and inclusive platform, can play a positive role in all these areas," the PM said.
"In this regard, our approach must remain people centric. We have to tell the world BRICS is not divisive and that we support dialogue and diplomacy, and not war ..." Mr Modi said.
As an example, the Prime Minister pointed to the pandemic and how BRICS nations worked together, and said, "Just as we were able to overcome a challenge like Covid together, we can create new opportunities to ensure a secure, strong, and prosperous future..."

CWG 2026: The rejigging will severely affect India’s tally, given that apart from athletics and paraathletics, boxing and weightlifting, the country does not have strong gold medal contenders
Six of the 12 sports in which India won a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games have been axed from the 2026 edition. Sports where India managed podium finishes in Birmingham but will be omitted from the Glasgow Games are badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis and wrestling.
Some other sports in which India have raked in medals in the past editions but which were not part of Birmingham, like shooting and archery, also remain excluded from the Commonwealth Games ‘Lite’, where only 10 sports will feature due to cost-saving measures. The
Warner offers to end Test retirement to face India
Former Australia opener David Warner says he is available to come out of Test retirement to play in the upcoming series against India. Steve Smith has opened alongside Usman Khawaja in the four Tests Australia have played since Warner, 37, retired in January. However, Smith will move back to number four for the series against India, starting in November, because all-rounder Cameron Green is out with a back injury, meaning Australia have to find another partner for Khawaja.
Indian hockey team loses 0-2 to Germany
Olympic bronze-winning Indian hockey team lost 0-2 to world champions Germany in the first Test to concede a 0-1 lead in the twomatch series here on Wednesday. Table Tennis has featured at every Games since 2002. The decision also marks a rare occurrence of no racquet sport being included in a multi-discipline event.
Brett Lee: 'Team India Can Beat Australia Anytime'
Former Australian speedster Brett Lee has described the Indian team as a "powerhouse that don't want to bow down" to anyone, cautioning his compatriots who will take on the Asian

Lee's remarks came after India's eightwicket defeat to New Zealand in the Bengaluru Test earlier this week. India, aiming to qualify for their third successive final in the World Test Championship, will be travelling to Australia next month to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
"This day and age, India is a powerhouse that don't want to bow down. They know how to win, and they know they can beat Australia; they know they can beat the Kiwis. They know they can beat anyone on any given day," Lee told 'Fox Cricket'.

Naomi Osaka's season appears to be over after she said she will not play at next month's Billie Jean King Cup finals because of injury. The fourtime Grand Slam singles champion said in Tokyo on Sunday that she had ruptured abdominal muscles. Prithvi Shaw Dropped from Ranji Squad for Fitness, Discipline
In what comes as yet another blow to Prithvi Shaw's cricketing career, the opening batter has been dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad. Though the team management didn't provide the exact reason behind his exclusion from the team, it has been widely reported that the coaches aren't happy with his attitude towards fitness and discipline. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selection committee, comprising Sanjay Patil (chairman), Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti, has reportedly decided to leave out Shaw at least for one Ranji Trophy game.

She pulled out of the Japan Open in Osaka and this week's Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. The Billie Jean King Cup finals would have been the final event on her 2024 schedule.
"I've played so many tournaments this year, so it was definitely the toughest decision to not play this and obviously not play BJK," she said. "I really honestly enjoyed it so much, and I think it helped with my development as a player."
The Billie Jean King Cup finals take place in Malaga, Spain, on November 13-20.
Osaka helped Japan beat Kazakhstan in April to qualify for the finals in her first Billie Jean King Cup appearance since 2020. Her appearance at the China Open was her first tournament under Patrick Mouratoglou, the Frenchman best known for being the long-time former coach of Serena Williams. She has struggled for consistency since returning to tennis in January after the birth of her daughter Shai in July 2023.

India to Allocate Satellite Internet Spectrum Administratively: Scindia
This is being seen as a blow to Reliance Jio, which has been calling for an auction of the spectrum, and a win for the likes of Elon Musk’s Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper.
Union Communications
Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that India will administratively allocate spectrum for satellite communication, as laid down in the Telecommunications Act, 2023. This is being seen as a blow to Reliance Jio, which has been calling for an auction of the spectrum, and a win for the likes of Elon Musk’s Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper.
“For satcom, spectrum will be allocated administratively… that does not mean that spectrum does not come without a cost. What that cost is and what the formula of that costing is going to be… will be decided by the TRAI,” Scindia said during a press briefing at the India Mobile Congress.
“Satellite spectrum across the world is allocated administratively. So India is not doing anything different from the rest of the world. Conversely, if you do decide to auction it, then you will be doing something which is different from the rest of the world… Satellite spectrum is shared spectrum. If spectrum is shared,
then how can you price it individually,” he added. The to and fro in the sector has set up a high-profile competition between deep pocketed rivals and has pit Reliance Jio against the likes of Elon Musk’s Starlink.
Earlier this month, Reliance Jio had written to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) challenging the notion that satellite spectrum should be allocated administratively, calling for an auction process. However, in response to the development, Musk said, “That would be unprecedented, as this spectrum was long designated by the ITU as shared spectrum for satellites”.
Musk v Ambani
Billionaires battle over India's satellite internet
Elon Musk and Mukesh Ambani are gearing up for a showdown in India's satellite broadband market after the government announced that satellite spectrum would be allocated administratively instead of through auctions. This decision has intensified the competition between Musk’s Starlink and Ambani's Reliance Jio, especially as satellite internet is wellsuited for remote areas with limited traditional internet options.
Starlink uses low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which are positioned closer to Earth for faster service, while Jio's partner, SES, operates mediumEarth orbit (MEO) satellites at higher altitudes, offering a more cost-effective solution. Starlink has already deployed over 6,400 satellites globally and serves four million users across 100 countries but has faced regulatory delays in India since 2021.
India's telecom regulator has not yet set spectrum pricing, and commercial satellite internet services are yet to begin. However, market projections estimate that satellite internet users in India could reach two million by 2025. This market, with its vast potential, is especially attractive since nearly 40% of India’s population lacks internet access, particularly in rural areas.

in airwave auctions to dominate the sector and is now pushing for satellite spectrum to be auctioned. The company argues that recent technological advances blur the lines between satellite and terrestrial networks, and that auctions would ensure fair competition. It claims that India's telecom laws mandate auctions for spectrum allocation, with administrative methods permitted only for public interest or technical reasons. However, administrative allocation aligns with international norms, where satellite spectrum is typically
HSBC names first female finance chief in major shakeup
HSBC has announced the appointment of its first female finance chief in the bank's 159year history as its new boss shakes up the business.
Pam Kaur has worked at the bank for more than a decade and is currently its chief risk and compliance officer.
HSBC's chief executive, Georges Elhedery, also unveiled plans to overhaul the UK-based banking giant to "unleash our full potential and drive success into the future."
Mr Elhedery is under pressure to cut costs, increase profits and navigate tensions between China and the West.
not auctioned due to the high costs, which could hinder investment, according to technology analyst Gareth Owen. He suggests Ambani might prefer auctions to outbid Musk, potentially excluding Starlink from the Indian market. Ambani’s stance has found support from Bharti Airtel's chairman, Sunil Mittal, who believes companies targeting high-end customers should buy spectrum like traditional telecom operators. Both Mittal and Ambani control 80% of India’s telecom market and see satellite technologies as a future threat to their dominance, given the rapid advancements in the sector. The stakes are high, with India’s internet adoption rate still trailing the global average, but satellite broadband could help close the gap, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Price will be a significant factor in India, where mobile data is among the world’s cheapest. Analysts suggest Musk could offer steep discounts or even free services initially to gain market share. Although Starlink’s higher costs could pose challenges, especially without subsidies, its ability to boost India’s digital infrastructure aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s push to attract foreign investment. With the potential to transform connectivity in remote areas, the race to dominate India’s satellite broadband market has just begun.
Boeing strikers to vote on 35% pay rise offer

China's economic slowdown deepens
China's economy expanded in the third quarter at the slowest pace since early last year, as the country struggles to boost flagging growth. On an annual basis, gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 4.6% in the three months to the end of September, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics.
That is less than the previous quarter and below the government's "around 5%" target for this year.

Prabhas Setting New Records At The Box Office In Indian Cinema
Prabhas is one of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema! His films command huge box office revenues apart from record pre-release businesses not just in India but also overseas. The worldwide collections of his recent release Kalki 2898 AD is a classic example of his box office command.
Prabhas’s last release Kalki 2898 AD had grossed around $18.5 million while his earlier release Salaar minted $9 million in terms of collections in North America. Leave alone Tollywood, this is a record for any Indian actor. These astonishing numbers prompted buyers and distributors from overseas to shell out huge money for a Prabhas-starrer. They are keener than ever before to bag the overseas distribution rights.
"Tough Times After Back-toBack Flops and No New Projects"
Aditya Roy Kapur
ctor Aditya Roy Kapur recently said he has battled a rough patch in his 15-year career, where his films were not working, and he stopped getting excited about new projects. This was a phase where, Aditya said, he didn't sign films and was subsequently out of work.
In the chat show What Women Want, he was in conversation with Kareena Kapoor Khan. When asked about a tough phase in his life where he found himself to be the most vulnerable, Aditya said he had several — from failing in exams and health scare to films bombing.
"There have been vulnerable moments, like films not working, or when one hasn't had work. A few films didn't do well and I didn't like anything (that was being offered), maybe because I was vulnerable at that point of time. It was a tough period where I wasn't liking anything and not working for a while.
Having a strong support system, like friends and family, is an assured way to get out of it."
When Kareena asked if there was a specific way he deals with failures, Aditya said it differs from film to film. Pointing out that nearly a year is spent on making a film, including the "crazy" promotional cycle, he said that when the film flops after all that, it leaves a huge void.
"You put in a year of work in it, then you promote it intensely, so you are drummed up to that level of euphoria. If it does well, great, but if it doesn't, sometimes it is jarring. It always does hurt, it takes time to seep in and for you to come to terms with it. I am on my own, before I go out in the world again," he added. Aditya began his career with the Salman Khan and Ajay Devgnstarrer London Dreams in 2009 and gained wider recognition through the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Aashiqui 2 in 2013. He went on to star in popular films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ok Jaanu and Kalank. He was last seen in The Night Manager, which was his OTT debut and will be next seen in Metro In Dino, paired opposite Sara Ali Khan.

SC Warns UP on Bulldozer Action:
"If They Want To Risk..."
New Delhi: Hearing a challenge to demolition notices served in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich after a communal clash, the Supreme Court today indirectly warned the Yogi Adityanath government against any bulldozer action. The court said it is the state government's "choice" if it wants to risk violating the top court's directions. The court, however, noted that its orders in the 'bulldozer justice' case specify that it will not intervene if the structures facing demolition are illegal.
The bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan has asked the Uttar Pradesh government not to take any action before the next hearing tomorrow.
Appearing for the petitioners, Senior Advocate CU Singh told the bench that local authorities issued demolition notices after the October 13 violence and asked them to respond within three days.
Appearing for the petitioners, Senior Advocate CU Singh told the bench that local authorities issued demolition notices after the October 13 violence -- which claimed one life -- and asked them to respond within three days.
"Applicant No.1's father and brothers surrendered... notices purportedly issued on 17 Oct, but pasted on 18th evening... we sought hearing on Sunday, but that did not happen. Some have approached HC," Mr Singh said. Earlier, the Allahabad High Court extended to 15 days the deadline to file replies to the demolition notices and directed the state authorities to decide after considering the responses.
Additional Solicitor General KM Nataraj, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, assured the court that no action would be taken till tomorrow.
“We will keep you updated if anything comes up.”
“Agreement has been arrived at on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas, leading to disengagement and a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020 and we will be taking the next steps on this,” India’s statement said.

Israel claims to find Hezbollah’s hidden bunker with ‘millions
Israel has claimed to find a hidden bunker of Hezbollah with millions of dollars in gold and cash as it declassified intelligence on Hezbollah’s financial network beneath a hospital in Lebanon, and the way in which it is used to fund its activities, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said on Monday.
During a televised briefing shared over X (formerly Twitter), the IDF spokesperson RAdm. Kashmir Terror Attack Targets Maximum Casualties, NIA Investigates
This is the first major attack on an infrastructural project in Jammu and Kashmir. In the past, militants have not targeted big infrastructure projects.
The militants who opened fire at a camp housing workers of an infrastructure company near Sonamarg on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in J&K were heavily armed and aimed to cause maximum casualties, police sources said.
Seven employees of the company, which is building the Z-Morh tunnel near Gagangir on the Srinagar-Sonamarg road, were killed in the firing. The victims were identified as Faheem Nasir from Bihar, Anil Shukhla from Madhya Pradesh, Dr Shahnawaz from Bidgam in Kashmir, Mohammad Hanif

Addressing a summit in New Delhi, he emphasized that India's fast-paced development has attracted global attention, with the country now recognized as the fastest-growing major economy.
He cited the ongoing infrastructure build-up and India's upward growth forecast by various global rating agencies as indicators of this momentum.

Khalistani terrorist Pannun's threat to Air India passengers: ‘Don’t
Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on Monday warned passengers not to fly on Air India flights from November 1 to 19. He asserted that an attack could take place on an Air India flight during the specified dates, which coincide with the "40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide". The founder of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, had issued a similar threat around the same time last year.
Pannun's fresh threat comes amid several airlines in India receiving multiple threat calls about potential bombings, all of which turned out to be hoaxes. It also occurred at a time when India and Canada are engaged in a murky diplomatic row following Canada's allegations of India targeting Khalistani elements in the country, including the murder of another terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In November 2023, Pannun released a video claiming that Delhi's Indira Gandhi

International Airport would be renamed and would remain closed on November 19, warning people against flying on Air India that day. The National Investigation Agency charged him with criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, and various offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In December last year, Pannun threatened to attack the Parliament on or before December 13, following reports of an alleged foiled plot to kill him. December 13 marks the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Parliament in 2001. He also threatened to kill Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of State Police Gaurav Yadav on Republic Day this year. He also urged gangsters to unite and launch an attack on Mann on January 26.

According to the sources, the Communist Party of India (M-L) and Marxist Coordination Committee (MMC) also want to join forces with the JMM and Congress in this election. The Rashtriya
Drone Targets Netanyahu's Residence After Sinwar's Killing
New Delhi: A drone was launched towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the Israeli town of Caesarea on Saturday, hours after Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed. Mr Netanyahu's spokesperson said he was not in the vicinity and there were no casualties in the attack on his residence. "A UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) was launched toward the prime minister's residence in Caesarea. The prime minister and his wife were not at the location, and there were no injuries in the incident," the prime minister's

office said in a statement. Earlier, the Israeli military had said that the drone was launched from Lebanon and it had hit a building. Two more drones that crossed into Israeli territory were intercepted, the military was quoted as saying by Reuters. The drone attack was not immediately claimed by Hezbollah, which has been trading fire with Israel since last October, or any other militant group. Israel is also fighting a war with Hamas ally Hezbollah in Lebanon. The two sides had exchanged rocket fire since the October 7 attack, with Israel sending ground troops across the Lebanese border last month.
Janata Dal, which fought on seven seats in the last assembly polls, is expected to contest fewer seats this time and agree to give the Bagodar seat to CPI (M-L) and Nirsa to MMC, they added.
Mr Soren's announcement came a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) revealed its seat-sharing formula for the state. BJP will contest 68 seats, while its allies, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) will contest 10, Janata Dal (United) will contest two and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) will contest the lone seat of Chatra.
"NDA is at it's strongest in Jharkhand so far. It has never been in history that four parties have come together to fight the elections. NDA allies are even ready to swap their seats at the last moment if needed. We are ready to throw the corrupt government off the seat. All NDA members should come and fight with us. Hemant Soren's government is the most corrupt in the state's history," said Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pratul Shah Deo.

Hoax Bomb Threats to Indian Flights Traced to UK, Germany
Central intelligence agencies trace hoax bomb threats to Indian flights to IP addresses in London and Germany. Sources stated that the X handle, under probe, was created on Tuesday and used to post seven hoax messages that triggered major air security scares. The handle has since been suspended. The suspect used multiple VPN services, making it difficult to trace the exact location as the IP addresses "bounced off" different countries, sources added. Several probe agencies, including the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), have been involved in efforts to unmask the person running the X handle. Currently, the authorities are investigating if this case is connected to several other incidents of hoax bomb threats received by some flights recently.
Trudeau's Actions Strain India-Canada Relations: New Delhi
India on Thursday used Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s deposition before Canada’s Foreign Interference Commission to claim vindication of New Delhi’s position that Ottawa lacks evidence of Indian government involvement in Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder in Canada in June last year. Soon after Trudeau’s deposition was wrapped up, the external affairs ministry said in the wee hours of Thursday: “What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying consistently all along — Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats.”

If the money is not given, his condition will be worse than Baba Siddiqui's," the threat message read.

Why are Nike shoes so expensive?
Nike is one of the world's most recognised brands and has been synonymous with premium athletic footwear for decades. Still, everyone wonders why Nike shoes arrive with such a hefty price tag. The answer lies in an array of things. From its brand positioning to research and development, even marketing. Let's explain in detail what makes the shoe brand and expensive buy for the consumer.
Brand reputation and image
There's a very good reason why Nike footwear costs this much. The company has existed only for about half a century, but from 1964 when it started, Nike has consistently developed the strong brand image that is synonymous with quality, performance, and innovation. Its track record will always warrant premium pricing over its products. Because people always tend to get better value for their money with higher prices, and the brand knows this consumer expectation well.
Research and development
Nike is one of the global leaders investing heavily in R&D to innovate and enhance footwear technology. It spends millions of dollars every year
for the development of new materials, to enhance shoe performance and comfort. For example, Air, Flyknit, and React foam technologies are examples of innovative technologies advanced in the footwear industry. These innovations often carry a cost premium over and above production cost, which is then passed on in retail. In addition to that, Nike works with professional athletes to perfect and try their products. Data from these partnerships is used in the process of designing, such that shoes not only look good but also perform great in athletic settings. Their commitment to R&D is a critical determinant of the
Aries
overall cost of their shoes. Quality of materials
Materials will amount to most of the cost of Nike shoes. Nike wants topclass materials for strength, comfort, and quality performance. For instance, shoes made from high-grade leather, breathable mesh, and advanced synthetic materials form a foundation of most Nike footwear. High-grade varieties are much more expensive than low-grade varieties, and this cost is passed on to consumers. In addition, Nike uses a great amount of environmentally friendly materials and sustainable procedures in its manufacturing processes. However, the same commitment to sustainability tends to push up the cost of production. An environment-
conscious consumer will happily pay extra for value-alignment in shoes, but this can increase the cost of Nike shoes, too.
Limited editions and collaborations
Nike is very consistent with the regular production of limited edition shoes, and more often than not partners with designers, artists, or celebrities to come up with something original in shoe art that usually costs at a premium. The price is driven up even more by the limited collections since collectors and enthusiasts are usually paid more for something they feel is rare or unique.

Is overusing painkillers harming your stomach and kidney?
Here’s all you need to know aboutthe hidden dangers of popping pills
Painkillers are among the most commonly used medications worldwide. From over-thecounter options to prescription drugs, they offer quick relief from a variety of ailments, such as headaches, muscle aches and chronic pain conditions. However, while they can be effective in alleviating discomfort, their excessive or improper use can lead to significant health issues, particularly those of the stomach and kidneys.
Understanding Painkillers
Painkillers can be broadly classified into two main categories: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids. NSAIDs work by reducing inflammation and blocking pain signals in the body. Opioids, on the other hand, interact with the nervous system to relieve severe pain but come with a higher risk of dependency and adverse effects.
Impact on Stomach Health
Prolonged use of NSAIDs results in gastrointestinal (GI) complications.
• Gastritis: Inflammation of the stomach lining can cause pain, nausea and vomiting.
• Peptic Ulcers: Open sores that develop on the stomach lining or the upper part of the small intestine, leading to burning stomach pain, bloating and indigestion.
• Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Chronic use of painkillers can result in bleeding in the stomach, which may be life-threatening. Signs include dark or bloody stools, vomitting blood or feeling faint. The risk of these conditions increases
with higher doses, prolonged use and the use of multiple medications. Additionally, individuals with a history of GI issues, older adults and those who consume alcohol may be more susceptible to these side effects.
The Toll on Kidney Health
The kidneys play a crucial role in filtering waste from the blood and maintaining fluid balance. Chronic painkiller use, particularly NSAIDs and certain prescription medications, can strain the kidneys, leading to various health complications:
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI): Overuse of painkillers can result in sudden damage to the kidneys, causing them to lose their filtering ability. This can lead to a buildup of waste products in the blood, which can be dangerous.
• Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Long-term use of painkillers may contribute to the gradual loss of kidney function, potentially leading to kidney failure. This is especially concerning for individuals with existing kidney conditions or those who are diabetic or hypertensive.
• Fluid Retention: Some painkillers can cause the body to retain fluids,
leading to increased blood pressure and additional strain on the kidneys.
Signs to watch out for Consult a doctor when you develop symptoms such as persistent abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, swelling in the legs or ankles, fatigue and decreased urine output after you have had painkillers.
Best Practices for Safe Painkiller Use
To mitigate the risks associated with painkiller use, consider the following recommendations:
• Follow Dosage Instructions: Always adhere to the prescribed or recommended dosage. Avoid self-medicating and consult with a healthcare professional if you have ongoing pain issues.
• Limit Duration of Use: Use painkillers for the shortest time necessary. If pain persists, seek medical advice rather than relying on painkillers for prolonged periods.
• Explore Alternatives: Depending on the type of pain, nonpharmacological interventions like physical therapy, acupuncture, or mindfulness practices, can provide effective relief without the associated risks.
• Regular Check-Ups: If you are a regular user of painkillers, consider routine medical check-ups to monitor stomach and kidney health.
• Avoid Alcohol: Combining painkillers with alcohol can exacerbate the risks of stomach irritation and kidney damage.
Is sooji (semolina) healthier than
In Indian kitchens, two of the most commonly used ingredients for various meals are sooji (semolina) and atta (whole wheat flour). Both are versatile but a common debate arises over whether sooji is healthier than atta. To answer this, it’s important to break down the nutritional composition, health benefits and potential downsides of both.
Understanding Sooji or Semolina Sooji, also known as semolina, is made from durum wheat, a harder wheat variety. It has a coarse texture and is used to make popular dishes like upma, rava idli, and halwa. It is also the primary ingredient for making pasta. Sooji provides about 350-360 calories per 100 g, with around 72 g of carbohydrates, 12 g of protein and 1 g of fat. It contains a moderate amount of fibre (about 3 g per 100 g), and some essential minerals like iron and magnesium, as well as B vitamins like thiamine and niacin.
Being high in carbohydrates, sooji
provides a good source of energy, making it ideal for breakfast or preworkout meals. Sooji has a moderate glycaemic index, meaning it causes a slower rise in blood sugar levels
Scientists Discover Insulin Molecule With On-Off Switch
Bioengineers and scientists at Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk have synthesised an insulin molecule with an "on-and-off switch" that automatically responds to sugar levels in the blood. The synthesised modified molecule, called NNC2215, was tested in pigs and rats and was discovered to be as good as natural insulin in humans. It is yet to be refined enough to be used in humans, but initial findings are promising enough to be extremely similar to the expected observations in humans already. The hope is that smart insulin will address the fluctuation of blood sugar levels and the challenge of matching insulin dosage to sugar levels. "This is a very good study that was well designed—they did all the necessary experiments to validate that this works,"said David Sacks, a clinical chemist unaffiliated with the study, in a statement accompanying the research. "It certainly provides encouragement that this approach is worth pursuing." Why Do We Need This?
Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use sugar for energy. Insulin resistance or impaired insulin sensitivity, happens when cells in your muscles, fat and liver do not respond as they should to insulin. It is a hormone secreted by the pancreas that is essential for life and regulates blood glucose (sugar) levels. It can be temporary or chronic and is treatable in some cases. When your cells become insulin resistant, then it can lead to elevated blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) which can lead to prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes.
atta (whole wheat flour)?
Wheat Flour)
compared to refined flours. It provides a moderate amount of protein, which is beneficial for muscle repair and growth. Sooji is generally considered light on the stomach, making it suitable for people with digestive issues.
Understanding Atta (Whole
Atta is a finely ground flour made from whole wheat grains. It is commonly used to make rotis, chapatis and parathas. It provides about 340-350 calories per 100 g, with 71 g of carbohydrates, 12-13 g of protein and around 2 g of fat. The key difference is its fibre content, which is significantly higher than that of sooji, with around 12-15 g per 100 g. Atta is also rich in vitamins and minerals such as iron, magnesium and B vitamins (folate, riboflavin, and niacin).
Whole wheat retains the bran, germ and endosperm, which are all rich in nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Comparing Sooji and Atta Atta, being a whole wheat flour,
contains much more fibre than sooji. This makes it more beneficial for digestive health, weight management by suppressing hunger pangs and controlling blood sugar levels. Although both sooji and atta have moderate to low glycemic indices, atta has an edge due to its higher fibre content, which slows down the release of sugars into the bloodstream. This is particularly important for people managing diabetes. When it comes to digestibility, sooji is considered lighter and easier to digest, especially for people with sensitive stomachs or those recovering from illness. However, it is not as effective in curbing hunger over longer periods. Atta is clearly a more nutrient-dense option. On the other hand, sooji is more easily digestible. Both sooji and atta can be part of a balanced diet. The key is to consume them in moderation and incorporate them into a varied diet that includes other whole grains, proteins and vegetables.

Kamala Harris-Endorsed Bill Aimed to Grant Citizenship to 11 Million Undocumented Immigrants
WASHINGTON, DC-Vice President Kamala Harris recently defended the Biden administration's immigration policies in an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier. During the discussion, Harris pointed to a 2021 immigration bill as evidence of the administration's efforts to strengthen U.S. immigration policies. The bill, known as the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, would have created a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants. While it aimed to modernize the immigration system and protect labor rights, it faced criticism and ultimately stalled in Congress. Harris’ remarks came after Baier questioned the administration’s decision to reverse several Trumpera immigration policies upon taking office in 2021, including the "Remain in Mexico" policy, which required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases were processed. Baier asked Harris if she regretted reversing that policy, citing instances
of crimes committed by illegal immigrants in the U.S. Harris deflected, instead criticizing former President Trump’s approach to immigration.
The 2021 bill would have allowed up to 11 million undocumented immigrants, including deportees under Trump, to gain citizenship through an eightyear process. It also proposed expanding green card eligibility for farmworkers, DACA recipients, and TPS holders, and increasing the annual green card lottery cap. Despite these provisions, conservatives criticized the bill as a form of "blanket amnesty," arguing it would encourage more illegal immigration.
Throughout the interview, Harris avoided providing specific numbers regarding how many illegal immigrants have been released into the U.S. since Biden took office, a point Baier pressed repeatedly. Harris focused on highlighting the administration’s broader efforts to address immigration reform while deflecting criticism.

Fact-Checking Trump's October Misstatements on Immigration
WASHINGTON, DC -Former President Donald Trump has been making several false claims about immigration in the lead-up to the presidential election. His rally speeches and interviews in October have featured numerous inaccuracies, especially about immigrants and crime, Vice President Kamala Harris’ role in immigration policy, and his own record on the subject.
Trump has falsely claimed that President Joe Biden appointed Harris as “border czar,” putting her in charge of border security, which is not true. Harris was
tasked with leading diplomatic efforts in Central America to address root causes of migration, not border security itself. Trump also repeated the incorrect claim that Harris has never visited the border, despite her trip to Texas in 2021 and Arizona in 2023. He has also inaccurately described statistics about immigrants with homicide convictions, claiming they entered the U.S. during the Biden-Harris administration, when in fact those numbers span decades, including during Trump’s presidency. In addition, Trump exaggerated the number of migrants crossing the U.S.Mexico border, stating that 21 million entered under Biden, when the actual figure is significantly lower. He also overstated the length of the border wall he built, claiming 571 miles, though the official total is 458 miles.
These claims are part of a broader pattern of falsehoods Trump has been sharing on immigration, ranging from minor exaggerations to complete fabrications.

Online Fake Prescription Drugs Linked to Overdose Dangers, CDC Warns
WASHIINGTON, DC- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning to public health officials and clinicians about the increased risk of drug overdose linked to counterfeit prescription medicines sold through online pharmacies. Many of these counterfeit pills contain fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid that is the leading cause of drug overdoses in the U.S.
The CDC highlighted that nearly 95% of websites offering prescription medications operate illegally, according to data from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. These illegal online pharmacies often sell counterfeit drugs without requiring a prescription or a license, making them especially dangerous.
On October 12, the U.S. Department of Justice filed charges against several illegal online pharmacies involved in selling counterfeit prescription pills to tens of thousands of individuals across the country.
The CDC urges individuals to be vigilant and avoid purchasing medications from unlicensed online pharmacies, particularly those that offer suspiciously low prices and do not require a doctor's prescription.

NEW JERSEY — 7-Eleven’s parent company, Seven & i Holdings Co., announced plans to close 444 underperforming stores across North America. The closures aim to cut costs by $30 million and focus on reshaping the company’s strategy for the future. With over 84,000 stores worldwide, including 9,000 in the U.S., 7-Eleven is a global leader in convenience stores. However, shifting consumer behavior has impacted some locations, leading to this decision. The company cited declining cigarette sales, a 16% increase in online delivery services, and inflation, which has tightened consumer budgets. Additionally, regional tobacco bans and reduced government food benefits have further strained sales. Specific locations for the closures have not yet been revealed, including any potential impact on New Jersey’s 346 stores.
