US and China agree to resume military communications after summit HiIndia Newsdesk

The US and China have agreed to resume military-to-military communications in an effort to ease rising tensions, President Joe Biden says. "We're back to direct, open, clear communications," he said following a rare meeting with China's President Xi Jinping in California on Wednesday. It was the first time the pair had spoken in person in more than a year. Mr Biden also said both leaders had agreed to establish a direct line of communication with one another. At a news conference following the summit, which took place at a historic country estate near San Francisco, Mr Biden said a lack of communication was "how accidents happen" and added that both presidents could now "pick up the phone and be directly heard immediately". China severed military-to-military communications last year after thenUS House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. Beijing views self-ruled Taiwan as its territory, and has threatened to annex it by force if necessary. Mr Biden said that, while many disagreements remained between the

But in a sign of how difficult relations still are, Mr Biden, as he was exiting the stage, responded to a reporter's question by saying he considered Mr Xi a dictator. "He's a dictator in the sense that he is a guy who runs a country... based on a form of government that is totally different from ours," he said. When Mr Biden made a similar comment in June, Chinese officials reacted angrily and described it as "extremely absurd and irresponsible".

"Seeking Light Of Wisdom": Joe Biden Celebrates Diwali At White House

Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping head into their big meeting at a country estate on Wednesday hoping to stabilise US-China relations after a period of tumult, but the US President also is prepared to confront his counterpart on difficult issues such as trade, Beijing’s burgeoning relationship with Iran and human rights concerns. The two leaders, who will meet on the sidelines of a summit of AsianPacific leaders, last spoke a year ago. Since then, already fraught ties between the two economic superpowers have been further strained by the US downing of a Chinese spy balloon that had traversed the continental US and over differences on the self-ruled island of Taiwan, China’s hacking of a Biden official’s emails and other incidents.

US President Joe Biden has accused his predecessor Donald Trump of using rhetoric echoing that heard in Nazi Germany. He spoke out after Mr Trump called his political opponents "vermin" during a rally at the weekend. The remarks show Mr Biden's increased willingness to attack Mr Trump a year before an expected election rematch between the two rivals. Trump campaign spokesperson called Mr Biden's accusation "despicable". "We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country," Mr Trump told his supporters on Saturday in New Hampshire as the US marked Veterans Day. Speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco on Tuesday, Mr Biden said: "In just the last few days, Trump has said, if he returns to office, he's gonna go after all those who oppose him and wipe out what he called the vermin, quote, the vermin in America - a specific phrase with a specific meaning." "Our threat is from within," he added.

Military carrying out 'a precise and targeted operation' at Gaza’s largest hospital: Israel HiIndia Newsdesk

The Israeli military said early on Wednesday that its troops were carrying out “a precise and targeted operation” at the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital, a complex of buildings where thousands of Palestinian refugees had taken shelter, as part of the campaign “to defeat Hamas and rescue our hostages”. Mohammed Zaqout, the director of hospitals in Gaza, said Israeli tanks were inside the medical compound and that soldiers had entered buildings, including the emergency and surgery departments, which house intensive care units. The statement came a day after Israel, facing an international outcry over the increasingly grim conditions at besieged hospitals in Gaza, sought to bolster its case for further military action by releasing a video of what it said were weapons inside a children’s hospital in Gaza and accounts of sexual violence and other atrocities committed by Hamas during the October 7 attacks. A spokesperson for Gaza’s ministry of health told Al-Aqsa TV just before

Supreme Court rules UK govt's Rwanda asylum policy unlawful

HiIndia Newsdesk

London: (IANS) In a big setback to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's government, the UK's Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected plans to send migrants to Rwanda as unlawful as it would put them at risk. Issuing a unanimous judgement, the country's highest court said that the policy would put asylum seekers at “risk of ill-treatment” as they could be sent back to their home countries once they land in Rwanda. Sunak, who has vowed to stop migrants reaching Britain in small boats across the English Channel, said the ruling "was not the outcome we wanted". "We have seen today’s judgment and will now consider next steps. This was not the outcome we wanted, but we have spent the last few months planning for all eventualities and we remain completely committed to stopping the boats," he said in a statement. The Prime Minister, however said that his "commitment to stopping the boats is unwavering". "The Government has been working on a new treaty with Rwanda, and we’ll finalise that in light of today’s judgment. If necessary, I am prepared to revisit our domestic legal frameworks," Sunak wrote on X on Wednesday.

Jerusalem bolsters case for action by releasing a video showing weapons in a children’s facility the raid that the Israeli military had warned that an operation at the main hospital complex in Gaza City, Shifa, was imminent.

The Israeli military also posted a statement about its operation on social media on Wednesday. However, it remained unclear how many troops were involved in the assault. In the statement, the Israeli military said that the aim of the raid was not to harm civilians, and the force that went into the hospital included medical teams and Arabic speakers.

Israel is a terror state committing war crimes, says Turkish President Speaking two days before a planned visit

Tayyip Erdogan HiIndia Newsdesk

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday Israel was a “terror state” committing war crimes and violating international law in Gaza, sharpening his repeated criticism of Israeli leaders and their backers in the West.

to Germany to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Erdogan said Israel’s military campaign against Palestinian militant group Hamas included “the most treacherous attacks in human history” with “unlimited” support from the West. He called for Israeli leaders to be tried for war crimes at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and repeated his view — and Turkey’s position — that Hamas is not a terrorist organisation but a political party that won past elections. Britain, the US, the EU and some Arab states deem Hamas a terrorist group, unlike Turkey. Ankara hosts some members of Hamas and supports a twostate solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

UNSC Adopts Resolution for Humanitarian Pauses in Gaza

HiIndia Newsdesk

The UN Security Council has adopted its first resolution since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, calling for "urgent and extended humanitarian pauses" in Gaza to address the escalating crisis for Palestinian civilians during Israel's aerial and ground attacks. Israel immediately rejected the resolution.

The vote in the 15-member council was 12-0 with the United States, United Kingdom and Russia abstaining. The US and UK abstained because of the resolution's failure to condemn Hamas' surprise cross-border attacks into Israel on October 7, and Russia because of its failure to demand a humanitarian cease-fire, which Israel and the United States oppose. T h e f i n a l d r a f t w at e re d d ow n language from "demands" to "calls" for humanitarian pauses, and for "the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups." Still, the resolution, which was sponsored by Malta, managed to overcome the serious differences that had prevented the council from adopting four previous resolutions.

“Israel is at war with Hamas, not with the civilians in Gaza,” the announcement said. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, said on social media that the military would transfer incubators, medical equipment, and baby food to the hospital. He claimed that, before the raid, Israel had tried to evacuate the hospital’s patients and the people who had taken shelter there, creating a safe route for them to leave. The New York Times was unable to reach the hospital director or the spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry to ask about Israel’s offer, the details of which remained unclear. In a statement, Hamas said it was holding the Israeli army and President Joe Biden “fully responsible” for the raid. It said the White House had given Israel “a green light” for the raid Tuesday when a spokesperson said U.S. intelligence agencies supported Israel’s conclusion that Hamas uses hospitals for military purposes.

Hamas uses AlShifa Hospital as military facility: IDF

However, the IDF have not elaborated on the nature of the evidence, but said the IDF will soon share the details.

Bulldozers At Gaza's Al Shifa Hospital As Israel Search For Hamas Tunnels

Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of building a command centre in a tunnel network underneath the hospital - a claim that US intelligence supports.

HiIndia Newsdesk HiIndia Newsdesk

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has raised India's long-standing concerns about pro-Khalistan extremism in the UK during his meetings with the country's leaders, stressing that they should be on guard against the misuse of freedom of expression and speech. Jaishankar concluded his five-day visit to the UK on Wednesday, which he described as “timely” after a series of cross-party engagements amid “substantial progress” on the ongoing free trade agreement negotiations. During a media interaction at the High Commission of India in London before leaving, the minister shared some insights from his discussions with the UK Cabinet ministers and Opposition leaders which covered a whole spectrum of global and bilateral issues. India’s concerns regarding proKhalistan extremism in relation to the safety of its diplomats in the country were among the topics that came up during his meetings with UK Home Secretary James Cleverly and National Security Adviser (NSA) Tim Barrow.

New Delhi: Israel intensified its operations at Gaza's al Shifa hospital after reportedly discovering Hamas weapons and equipment. The United Nations and Middle Eastern countries condemned Israel's raid on the hospital housing thousands, including newborns. Israeli troops stormed into the al Shifa hospital on Wednesday and spent the day deepening their search. In a

video, the Israel army showed automatic weapons, grenades, ammunition, and flak jackets it said were recovered from the hospital complex. "Tonight we conducted a targeted operation into Shifa Hospital. We continue to move forward," Major General Yaron Finkelman, head of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, said on the army's Telegram channel. Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of building a command centre in a tunnel network underneath the hospital - a claim the US says its own intelligence supports but Hamas denies. The Israeli Defence forces made no mention of finding any tunnel entrances in al Shifa after their searches. The Palestinean health ministry said that Israel has deployed bulldozers around the hospital. The United Nations estimates that at least 2,300 patients, staff, and displaced civilians are inside the hospital, including 36 newborns. Three premature babies died last week after the institution ran out of fuel to keep the incubators going.

Groups Carrying Khalistani Flags Disrupt Diwali Festivities In Canada, Throw Stones: Report HiIndia Newsdesk

Ontario, Canada: Groups allegedly carrying Khalistani flags gate-crashed the Diwali festivities in Canada's Brampton and started hurling stones at the people celebrating the festival, Khalsa Vox reported. The incident has come to light at a time when New Delhi has sent out a terse message to Canada, asking it to crack down on extremist elements back home and curb attacks on places of worship. The incident raised concerns of a targeted attack fueled by religious hatred and not merely an internal community attack, as was initially suggested by the police, the report stated, adding that the incident stoked anger among the affected community. Khalsa Vox quoted an observer as saying, "It is very unfortunate to hear about the attack on Diwali celebrations in Brampton, Canada. It is also concerning that the Canadian media is downplaying the incident by calling it a 'fight between Sikhs and Hindus.' This attack was motivated by Khalistani extremists to incite religious hatred." According to Khalsa Vox, the alleged display of Khalistani flags during

extremist elements sympathetic to the Khalistan cause, the report noted. Further, according to the report, the Canadian natives are rising with frustration as they are fed up with the presence of Khalistani elements in their country. Canada, renowned for its commitment to inclusivity, freedom of speech, and peace, however, is currently facing a challenge as some individuals associated with the Khalistani movement are

accused of inciting violence, spreading hatred, and contributing to a rise in crimes, Khalsa Vox reported. According to the report, the incident has stressed the need for Ottawa to critically assess its stance on Khalistan and the potential impact it may have on social harmony within its borders. The chaos during the Diwali celebration in Canada brings attention to the delicate balance Canada must navigate between supporting the rights of its citizens to express their views and ensuring that such expressions do not morph into violent acts against other communities, Khalsa Vox noted further in its report. While maintaining the right to free expression, it is equally important for Canada to scrutinise the activities of groups that may exploit these freedoms to spread hatred and engage in violent actions, the report noted. The incident serves as a timely reminder to the Canadian authorities to reevaluate their policies and take decisive action to prevent the escalation of religiously motivated violence within their borders, the report stated further.

Hyderabad: (IANS) In yet another big blow to the BJP just two weeks before the Telangana Assembly elections, veteran actor and National Executive member M. Vijayashanthi resigned from the party on Wednesday. She is likely to join the Congress in a day or two. Vijayashanthi, who was not actively participating in party activities for the last few months, sent her resignation to state BJP chief G. Kishan Reddy. The former MP is likely to join the Congress on Friday in the presence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. She is the fourth key leader to quit the BJP in less than a month. Former MPs Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and G. Vivekanand and another leader Enugu Ravinder had quit the BJP. Rajagopal Reddy and Vivekanand joined the Congress. It was in December 2020 that Vijayashanthi had returned to the BJP after 15 years. Popular as ‘Lady Amitabh’ for her action roles in Telugu films, Vijayashanthi had joined the BJP in 1997 and served as General Secretary of the party’s women’s wing. She quit the BJP in 2005 to float a separate outfit, Talli Telangana, to fight for separate statehood for Telangana. She later merged Talli Telangana with TRS (now BRS) and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Medak constituency in 2009. In August 2013, a few months before the formation of Telangana state, the TRS suspended Vijayashanthi for anti-party activities. She later joined the Congress and unsuccessfully contested from the Medak Assembly constituency in the 2014 polls.

It mentioned that Karnataka has witnessed above normal temperatures along with large deficit rainfall during August and "this has severely affected the standing crops in large parts of the rain-fed areas". During September, interior parts of the state which comprises major Kharif area witnessed deficit rainfall which resulted in soil moisture stress during maturity stage of the crops. Moreover, the drought conditions have further deteriorated during October. After adhering to all norms and procedures delineated in the Drought Manual 2020, Karnataka has declared drought in 223 taluks out of 236 taluks out of which 196 taluks are categorised as severely drought affected.

Hyderabad: (IANS) The BJP-Jana Sena alliance has fielded 39 candidates from the backward classes for Telangana Assembly elections, Union Minister and Telangana unit BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said on Wednesday. The BJP, which has promised to make a leader from backward class as the chief minister, has fielded 36 candidates from backward classes. Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by actor Pawan Kalyan has fielded three backward class candidates. Elections for 119-member

Telangana Assembly are scheduled on November 30. The BJP is contesting 111 seats, leaving the remaining for its ally. Kishan Reddy said that the Congress has fielded only 22 backward class members while Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has given tickets to 23 backward class members. Kishan Reddy said the BJP had also fielded two candidates from Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the general category seats. He claimed that BJP has also fielded 14 women candidates while the BRS has given tickets to only eight women. The BJP leader said almost all the dissidents who had filed nominations have withdrawn from the contest. Describing the elections as crucial for the future of Telangana, he said voting for BRS and Congress will only result in loss to the state as both the parties indulge in family politics and corruption.

New Delhi: The undistributed funds totalling over ₹ 25,000 crore lying with the capital markets regulator Sebi's account have come back into focus after the death of Sahara Group's chief Subrata Roy. Mr Roy died in Mumbai on Tuesday night at the age of 75 after battling a prolonged illness. He faced multiple regulatory and

In 2011, capital markets regulator Sebi ordered two Sahara Group firms -- Sahara India Real Estate Corporation Ltd (SIREL) and Sahara Housing Investment Corporation Ltd (SHICL) -- to refund the money raised from nearly 3 crore investors through certain bonds known as Optionally Fully Convertible Bonds (OFCDs). This order came after the regulator ruled that the funds were raised by the two firms in violation of its rules and regulations. After a long process of appeals and cross-appeals, the Supreme Court on August 31, 2012 upheld Sebi's directions asking the two firms to refund the money collected from investors with 15 per cent interest.

The tunnel is next to the house of a Hamas operative who heads the naval operations of Hamas that led the October 7 raids on Israel, said a military spokesperson. Israel's security forces claim to have discovered a Hamas-operated tunnel that leads to a hospital in Gaza amid criticism that their ground operations have left medical facilities inoperative in the blockaded strip. The tunnel is next to the house of a Hamas operative who heads the naval operations of Hamas that led the October 7 raids on Israel, said a military spokesperson. Rantisi hospital is only 200 yards away, said Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, as he sought to prove the accusations that the Palestinian Hamas group has been operating from hospitals. "Inside these tunnels, Hamas terrorists hide, operate and hold Israeli hostages against their will," said the Israel Security Forces on X, formerly Twitter. The tunnel is electrified with the help of solar panels and leads to a bulletproof and explosives-proof door about 20 metres down the ground level, he said. "It looks like a hard and clear evidence that the hospital is connected," he added.

the hospital sits atop a network of tunnels that form part of the Hamas'

underground headquarters. Israel has accused the terror group of using hospitals and patients as human shields, an accusation the Hamas and Gaza health officials have denied. In a separate incident, Israel claimed to have discovered a tunnel leading into another hospital from the home of a known Hamas operative. The United Nations believes thousands, and perhaps more than 10,000 including patients, staff and displaced civilians - may be inside Al Shifa and unable to escape because of fierce fighting nearby. Hospitals, and medical personnel, are protected under international humanitarian law and parties in conflict must ensure their protection. They cannot be used to shield military objectives from attack, but any operation around or within must protect patients, staff, and other civilians, the United Nations' Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in its Monday update from Gaza.

Those who didn’t look at me before, called me : Vikrant Massey

I

want my films to come out in cinemas, I want packed halls. But as long as I’m catering to the audience, the medium does not matter,” Vikrant Massey had told us in an interview, when he had an OTT film up for release. Today, he has a bigscreen hit, 12th Fail, to his name. In an industry where box-office collections play a crucial role in determining one’s stardom, Massey has finally earned validation as a star. “I agree that big-screen magic is different, and I have been fortunate to [taste] that success. When people spend their hard-earned money to watch your film, you feel a different kind of happiness,” he smiles. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial venture is based on Anurag Pathak’s book of the same name that tells the true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame hard circumstances to become an Indian Police Service officer. In the post-pandemic scenario, a smallbudget human drama isn’t considered ideal for a big-screen release, but Massey says Chopra was sure of taking it to cinemas. “When we set out to make the film, we were clear that we had to tell it with honesty. Box office was never our priority. While making the film, sir would say, ‘I will bring this film only to theatres, whether people come or not.’ Even if the film hadn’t performed well, we would’ve been equally proud of it,” he says of the drama that has not only won critical acclaim, but also collected Rs 35 crore so far.

I do feel my influence on Bollywood right now

A

merican rapper and

songwriter Raja Kumari has opened up on her 'Bollywood dream', saying how she always wanted to work with Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Sushmita Sen. Svetha Yallapragada Rao, known by her stage name Raja Kumari has lent her vocal prowess for the track titled ‘Sherni Aayi’ in ‘Aarya 3’, starring Sushmita in the lead. Speaking to IANS, Raja Kumari shared about her Bollywood dream, collaborating with Sushmita, and the rap song. Raja Kumari recently sung the ‘Jawan’ title track, along with Anirudh Ravichander. ‘Jawan’ is an action thriller starring SR K i n du a l roles. If her Bollywood dream is coming true, Raja Kumari told IANS: “Yes I love the Bollywood dream. I have been easter egging this and for someone who grew up in America, Bollywood was my connection to my culture, understanding how to be Indian, because we didn’t have many examples other than our parents.” “So, I think between Shah Rukh, Madhuri and Sushmita, I have watched their many performances, films, and I am fan of them,

and I always thought of working with them. And now I am here I just want to enjoy and do a lot more. I always wanted to come into Bollywood to influence it, and I do feel my influence on Bollywood right now.” On her collaboration with Sushmita for ‘Aarya 3’, the ‘Afreeda’ singer said: “She is a sherni, like actually a real deal. In the same way it was easy to write the ‘Jawan’ anthem for SRK, because it was a song dedicated to him from us that is the fans. “I feel I am just a big fan of everybody, so when I get into these positions to write these theme songs, I just want to celebrate how Sushmita makes me feel. And when I see her I feel powerful. Being on set with her, watching her command that much energy, and just being such a boss, is so inspiring, I feel like I took a lot from that day. I saw myself in her and I saw like maybe in the future, I want to be that powerful too,” she shared. What are the influences that have shaped your rapping? “When I get into that aggressive tone I think that is something that is very authentic to me. I think the first character I played as a classical dancer was ‘Mahishasura Mardini’. So, I started this world slaying demons, and I think Aarya has that nature,” she said. Raja Kumari added: “It was crazy to sing in Hindi, because that’s something I haven’t explored enough. But with this song it had those Sanskrit elements, and that’s my comfort space. So I was really excited to write something that aggressive.” ‘Aarya 3’ is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

While Sushmita Sen was on 8-year hiatus: Sitting & thinking ‘I don't like this…’

A

ctress Sushmita Sen has opened up on her eight-year hiatus, and shared how she was impressed by the content on the OTT platforms, adding how ‘Aarya’ actually happened. For eight years, Sushmita explored different acting opportunities, hoping to find the perfect fit. None felt right until ‘Aarya’ came along, like the universe finally giving her the role she'd been waiting for. The former Miss Universe’s character Aarya Sareen in the crime thriller ‘Aarya 3’ is a true powerhouse, with strength that could rival a tornado, and a life story that's seen several twists. Elaborating on this, Sushmita said: "I was in an eight-year hiatus, sitting there and thinking, 'I don't like this, I do not like that. By default of knowing what you do not want, what I do want was being created, and that is where the manifestation comes in.” “I did not realise that the OTT space was creating content the way it is now. I had the initial taste of it very close to when I did Aarya. Until then, I was like, 'the big screen, I will only work on the big screen,' and then this

happened. I was sitting there thinking, if they are making content like this, this is what I want,” she shared. Sushmita added: “So, the platform then is not the key factor, the content is, the makers are, the team is. I started manifesting that and was waiting for something like this. It was authorbacked, had a director like Ram Madhvani, a crew like this – this has been a Godgifted team for me to learn." Created and co-directed by Ram Madhvani and co-produced by Amita Madhavni, Ram Madhvani, Ram Madhvani Films and Endemol Shine India, ‘Aarya 3’ is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Testifying in a lawsuit filed against Google by Fortnite developer Epic Games in Washington, DC, Pichai on Tuesday confirmed the deal details presented by a Google witness in the case are accurate, reports CNBC. An attorney for Epic asked Pichai if the detail presented by Google’s witness was accurate. “That’s correct,” Pichai responded. About the Samsung deal, Pichai told the

He later said that Google competes “fiercely with Apple.” “The attorney for Epic also asked Pichai about the exact dollar amount it pays to Apple, to which Pichai said it was over $10 billion. But the attorney pushed back, contending the figure is actually $18 billion,” the report mentioned. UK inflation fell sharply in October to its lowest rate in two years, largely due to lower energy prices. Inflation, which measures the rate at which consumer prices rise, dropped to 4.6% in the year to October, down from 6.7% the month before. The figure means a government target to halve inflation by end of the year has been met early. But there is a limit to how much credit ministers can take for the fall as energy prices settle.

Housing costs continued to climb, but overall price pressures were milder than analysts had expected, suggesting the country's fight against inflation may nearly be over. he number of international students at US colleges and universities has nearly recovered from a Covid-related decline as a surge in Indian pupils helped make up for a loss in students from China. The number of foreign students at US schools rose 12% in the 2022-2023 academic year to nearly 1.06 million students, within striking distance of 2019, according to Open Doors data from the Institute of International Education. "The US remains the destination of choice for international students wishing to study abroad, as it has been for more than a century," said IIE's chief executive officer, Allan E. Goodman. While foreign enrollment dipped in 2020 due to lockdowns, demand is coming back. The number of students from India shot up 35% to roughly 269,000 from 199,000 the previous year, catching up on the number of students from China, which was flat at about 290,000 in the 2022-23 school year. Singapore, Hong Kong or Malaysian universities. Young Indians' interest in US universities can be explained in part by India's economy, which expected to grow 6.3% this year and the next, according to the World Bank. That's boosting incomes and wealthier families are more likely to send their kids abroad to improve their job prospects. A foreign degree can also improve low and middle-income families' social status and marriage prospects, experts say. A lack of education options at home has also contributed to the rise in US enrollments. During the Trump administration, visa curbs and fears around personal safety led some students from India to reconsider their choice to study in the US. But US-India relations have improved since. India now has the largest population in the world, surpassing China, and half are under the age of 30. By contrast, China's stalling economic growth has dampened enthusiasm for education abroad, with many families also concerned about US-China relations, anti-Chinese sentiment and safety in the US. "Families from smaller cities are worried about tensions in the US and about costs," said Zhou Huiying, founder of Shanghai-based consultancy Lideyouwei Education Technology.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that India is not ruling out an investigation but asked Canada to provide evidence in support of its allegations about the involvement of agents of the Indian government in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in that country. Jaishankar made the comments in response to questions during a conversation with veteran journalist Lionel Barber titled ‘How a Billion People See the World' here. "If you have a reason to make such an allegation please share the evidence because we are not ruling out an investigation…," Jaishankar, who is here on a five-day official visit to the UK, said while responding to a question. He emphasised that Canada has not shared any evidence with India to support its allegation. The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020. India has rejected Trudeau's allegations as "absurd" and "motivated". Jaishankar said that freedom of speech and freedom of expression comes with a certain responsibility and the misuse of those freedoms and the toleration of that misuse for political purposes would be very wrong, referring to the proKhalistani activities in Canada. The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following PM Trudeau's allegations in September of a 'potential' involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020 Commission of India in Canada, or smoke bomb attacks on the High Commission and Consulate General, and said Indian diplomats were intimidated in public, with no action from the Canadian authorities against culprits. Last week, Prime Minister Trudeau underlined that a "fight" with India was not something Canada wanted to be having right now but reiterated his allegations and said Ottawa wants to "work constructively" with New Delhi on this "very serious matter". Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said India has conveyed to the US side its serious concerns over increasing

activities of pro-Khalistani elements in Canada. "Insofar as Canada is concerned, we have been having very consistent conversations with all our friends and partners. Our position on this matter has been enunciated and explained in full detail on multiple occasions," Kwatra said in New Delhi recently. Days after Trudeau's allegations in September, India temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country to ensure parity. India resumed some visa services in Canada last month, more than a month after they were suspended. On China, Jaishankar said that the 2020 deadly clash has vitiated the relationship between the two countries. He said China did not adhere to the agreement not to amass troops at the Line of Actual Control as he asserted that such acts of not following pacts have consequences in terms of credibility.

New Delhi: There will be no odd-even traffic restriction scheme in Delhi at this time, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said Friday afternoon, shortly after the Supreme Court left the decision on its implementation to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Earlier this week the court - irked by the annual (and worsening) air quality crisis in the city - called the scheme "optics" and demanded proof of success. The odd-even scheme - which restricts (only privately-owned) car traffic based on registration numbers - was to have

been enforced for this year from the day after Diwali (November 13). The Delhi government will now only consider implementing the odd-even scheme after a review of air quality post-

13-20 has been postponed. The situation will be analysed again after Diwali," the minister said. In today's (now annual) Supreme Court hearing on the air quality crisis, the court was referred to a report that said the odd-even scheme reduces vehicular pollution by 13 per cent. The court was also told of a drop in kilometres travelled - an estimated 37.8 lakh per day when the scheme is in effect. A Delhi government affidavit said this also translated into an average of 15 per cent lower fuel consumption per day (thereby also impacting, positively, the environment) during the scheme.

WASHINGTON, DC- Former President Donald Trump plans to expand his strict immigration policies if re-elected in 2024. This includes rounding up undocumented immigrants in the US and placing them in detention camps for deportation, potentially redirecting funds if Congress refuses to provide funding. Trump recently promised to conduct a massive domestic deportation operation, stop funding shelter and transportation for undocumented immigrants, and revive policies from his first term, like the travel ban and Title 42. These plans would face significant political and legal challenges. Trump aims to install loyal officials in key positions to support his immigration crackdown efforts. The Biden campaign criticized these plans as extreme and divisive, while Trump continues to emphasize his tough immigration stance in recent campaign events.

WASHINGTON, DC- Effective immediately, we are updating guidance in the USCIS Policy Manual (PDF, 343.18 KB) for adjudicating Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) petitions. This update will make the SIJ adjudication process more efficient for some applicants. We are updating this guidance to align with the July 31, 2023, declaratory order in Casa Libre/ Freedom House v. It does not extend to the adjudication of any motion or appeal filed after a denial of an SIJ petition. SIJ is an immigration classification for noncitizens in the United States who need the protection of a juvenile court because they have been abused, abandoned, or neglected by a parent. They may apply for SIJ classification using Form I-360, Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant. HEALTH

foods that lower blood pressure

reduce inflammation and oxidative stress leading to a reduction in cardiac risk factors, such as high blood pressure.

Spinach

Similar to beets, spinach is a nitrate powerhouse. Studies show that just 1 cup of leafy greens daily, like spinach (as well as kale, swiss chard, arugula, collard greens and bok choy), can significantly reduce the risk for heart disease. These studies often cite improvements in blood pressure as a critical component.

Apples

Like dark chocolate, apples (specifically their peels) are abundant in flavonoids, which have been shown to improve blood pressure. Studies show that the more deeply hued the peel is, the more flavonoids the apple contains.

Wild salmon

Lean proteins play a role in reducing blood pressure, and wild salmon is one of the best options to consider due to its high content of omega-3 fatty acids. One study found that having 3 grams of omega 3’s a day (approximately a 4-5 ounce piece of salmon) could help lower blood pressure, and having more, the authors noted, may provide even more benefit for someone with hypertension. Other sources of omega 3’s include chia and flax seeds and walnuts.

Extra virgin olive oil

A

ccording to the Centers for Disease Control, almost half of all Americans have hypertension, or high blood pressure. mHowever, only a small portion are managing it, which is concerning considering that high blood pressure poses a significant risk to overall health.

oxide, which in turn helps improve the function of blood vessels by widening the vessels allowing greater blood flow.

Lemons

What causes high blood pressure?

Multiple studies have linked lemons and lemon juice to improvements in hypertension. Benefits are derived from minerals in lemons and citric acid found in all citrus fruits.

Foods that lower blood pressure

Diets high in potassium may help in controlling blood pressure. Potassium helps widen the blood vessels and assists the kidneys in excreting excess sodium from the body. Apricots, a nutrient-rich fruit, are often found in dried varieties and can be used in making trail mix, to add some sweetness to a salad, or alone as a snack. Apricots provide 378 mg of potassium in ½ cup. One study found that individuals who consume dried fruit, in general, are more likely to see improvements in systolic blood pressure. So make it a habit to add a handful to your daily routine.

Blood flow throughout the body occurs in the arteries. The force of blood flow within the arteries is called blood pressure and is measured using systolic (the pressure when your heart beats) and diastolic (the pressure when your heart rests in between beats). When the force of blood flow is too high, it’s called hypertension or high blood pressure. Hypertension damages the arteries and restricts blood flow, and because of this, having the condition puts you at risk for many adverse health conditions, including stroke, heart disease, dementia, and kidney problems. Managing hypertension may involve pharmacological and lifestyle approaches, such as altering the diet or engaging in more physical activity. The DASH diet has been shown to be effective in treating and managing blood pressure, and new data reveals that focusing on improving gut health may also help. Here are 20 foods to consider adding to your diet if you’re trying to reduce blood pressure:

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is a deeply-hued anthocyanin-rich fruit. Consumption of pomegranate and its juice has been linked to reducing the risk of certain cancers and lowering inflammation. The fruit may also play a role in helping to lower bad LDL cholesterol as well. A 2023 meta-analysis found that pomegranate may assist in reducing blood pressure. Previous studies have shown similar associations..

Dried apricots

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate has been found to help reduce blood pressure via its high content of flavonoids. A 2021 study assessing flavonoid intake and its impact on gut microbiome found that participants with the highest consumption of flavonoid-rich foods such as dark chocolate (as well as red wine, berries and tea) had the lowest systolic blood pressure.

Coffee

Avocado

A 2023 study in the journal Nutrients found that three or more cups of coffee a day may help lower blood pressure. The study found that these benefits are most likely due to the compounds found in the coffee bean. However, other studies have associated moderate (2 cups or more) coffee consumption with an increased risk of cardiac-related death in individuals with severe hypertension (the risk was not seen in individuals who drank one or fewer cups daily).

Beets

A 2014 study compared two groups of individuals. One group consumed their typical diet, while another added 50 grams (about ½ cup) of almonds a day for one month. After the study, the almond-eating group had greater amounts of antioxidants in the blood, better blood flow and lower blood pressure. In addition to almonds, pistachio, and walnut consumption has also been associated with lower blood pressure.

Potassium is a mineral found in plants and directly benefits blood pressure. A 2023 study found that consuming avocados, a fruit high in potassium, five or more times per week led to a 17% decrease in hypertension. That’s because potassium can mitigate the effects of sodium, sending sodium out of the body through urine instead of staying in the body to damage vessels.

A study in the Journal of Hypertension found that consuming about 1 cup of nitrate-rich beet juice could help reduce blood pressure. Nitrate converts to nitric

Almonds

Celery

Studies show that celery consumption may help

A 2020 study in the journal Nutrients referred to olive oil as “ the optimal fat choice in the management protocols for hypertension in both healthy and cardiovascular disease patients.” Olive oil is high in polyphenols and oleic acid, which may help reduce overall risk factors, like blood pressure, for heart disease.

Pistachios

Multiple studies have found benefits to several components of heart health when pistachios are part of the diet. Pistachios have also been found in studies to make an impressive impact on reducing blood pressure, with one systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials linking pistachio consumption with reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Yogurt

A 2021 study found that yogurt could help reduce blood pressure due to its high concentration of micronutrients calcium, magnesium and potassium, which are all associated with a lower risk of hypertension.

Pumpkin seeds

This fall snack should be a year-round treat if you have high blood pressure. Pumpkin seeds are high in magnesium, a mineral found to help in controlling blood pressure. A 2019 animal study found that rats with 4% pumpkin seeds or pulp had 20% lower blood pressure than rats on the control diet.

Cinnamon

Add some blood pressure-friendly ingredients to your spice cabinet. A 2021 randomized controlled trial found significant reductions in systolic blood pressure when 1500 mg of cinnamon was added to the diet for 90 days. In addition to cinnamon, other roots like turmeric and ginger may also play a beneficial role in blood pressure management.

Oregano

Oregano is an excellent addition to eggs, sauces, dressings and poultry. It’s also great for your blood pressure. A 2021 study analyzed herbs and spices combined with blood pressure response. The study found that individuals that consumed the most herbs and spices had lower blood pressure readings 24 hours later.

Garlic

Love garlic? So do your arterial walls. One study found that individuals with lower blood pressure levels were more likely to have garlic in their diet.

Blueberries

The compound that gives blueberries their deep hue is the same one demonstrated in studies to lower blood pressure. Authors noted that the benefits to blood pressure were seen just two hours after eating blueberries.

New Delhi: (IANSlife) Travel comes in many forms. With Singles’ Day around the corner, digital travel platform Agoda looked at the most popular destinations for solo travellers. For India, Bangkok is in first place, followed by Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. Singles’ Day, or 11-11, takes place annually on the eleventh day of November. The unofficial holiday originated in China as an answer to Valentine’s Day, celebrating those who aren’t in a romantic relationship. Over the years, Singles’ Day has gained popularity globally. The day is now recognized as one of the most impactful online shopping days with many online platforms, including Agoda, offering special discounts. “As Agoda, we have talked a lot about family travel this year but with travel numbers up compared to recent years, we’ve also seen an increase in solo travel” said Krishna Rathi, Country Director India, Sri Lanka, and Maldives at Agoda. “Going on a solo trip is arguably one of the best gifts one can give oneself. Whether it is to explore new cultures, to make new friends, or to reconnect with those across the globe, going on a trip alone often requires stepping out of one’s comfort zone. But those who set out on an adventure of their own are usually rewarded with the creation of the most special memories.” To determine the solo travel favourites, Agoda looked at the most popular destinations for solo travellers checking in on weekends and across a wide range of hotel stays. Around Asia Pacific, the top three consist of Tokyo, Japan in first, Bangkok, Thailand in second, and Seoul, South Korea in third. For India, the most popular destinations are:

Bangkok, Thailand

Renowned as one of the world’s most accessible destinations for solo travellers, it’s no surprise that Bangkok made the list.Thailand’s capital is welcoming to solo travellers on any budget, but being the home of hostelpacked Kao San Road, Bangkok is sure to be on the travel itinerary for backpackers. Making new friends has never been

so easy, thanks to the friendly locals and the abundance of fellow solo travellersanywhere across the city. During the daytime, there’s lot to explore, like the Grand Palace, the famous Chatuchak weekend market, or the arty and chaotic alleys of Chinatown.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Ranked at number 2, the glittering skyline of Dubai is sure to attract any kind of traveller. Solo adventurers are in for a great time with a seemingly never-ending list of things to do: Shop-till-you-drop in one of the malls or a bazaar, go dunebashing in the desert, visit the world’s tallest building the Burj Khalifa, or meet locals and fellow travellers during frequently hosted quiz nights in one of the pubs. And after all that, there’s always the beach for some well-deserved relaxation.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Known for its warm hospitality, Kuala Lumpur is a haven for solo
