Trump recaptures White House in historic win

New Delhi:

Donald Trump thanked his supporters today and described it as a "magnificent victory for the American people" as he made one of the most stunning comebacks in the US political history with his win over Kamala Harris. He also referred to the July 13 assassination attempt and said "God spared my life for a reason".

The 78-year-old has secured more than 270 electoral college votes needed to defeat his opponent, incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, in the US presidential election 2024. Trump has bagged 280 votes while Harris is at 224. Describing the Republican campaign as the "greatest political movement of all time", Trump said, "We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders, we made history for a reason tonight. We have achieved the most incredible political win. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body."

A massive factor in Trump's victory was the Republican sweep in seven swing or

"Only When It Is Dark...": Kamala Harris' Message As She Concedes To Trump

New Delhi:

US Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the presidential election to Donald Trump after an acrimonious, turbulent and polarising campaign. In her speech, the Democratic leader said though she has conceded the election, she has not conceded "the fight that fuelled this campaign."

"While I concede the election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign. Fight for freedom, opportunity, dignity for all people," Ms Harris said in a speech that lasted less than 15 minutes.

Her supporters cheered, even though she admitted it was painful to lose. She told them to "keep fighting".

"While I concede the election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign," Kamala Harris said

"... I will close with this. Only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars. I know many people feel we are entering a dark time... Let us fill the sky with the light of billions and billions of stars, the

light of truth, optimism and service," she said. "The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say that the light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting," she told supporters.

"We must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory," Ms Harris told supporters in the concession speech at her alma mater Howard University in Washington.

"I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition, and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power," she said.

PM Modi congratulates: ‘Had a great conversation with friend President Trump’

AMONG THE first world leaders to congratulate Donald Trump on his “historic election victory” in the US presidential election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wednesday he looked forward to renewing their “collaboration to strengthen” the strategic partnership between the two countries and “build on the successes” of Trump’s previous term between 2016 and 2020. Later in the evening, Modi spoke to Trump and personally congratulated him. In a post on X, Modi said, “Had a great conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space and several other sectors.”

Donald Trump’s comeback has come at a time when India is looking at four years of a fair amount of continuity in the US administration, with some doses of uncertainty and unpredictability that he brings to the table.

battleground states. From a 6-1 score in favour of Democrats in the 2020 polls, these seven states swung to a 7-0 advantage for Trump. The Republican leader has already won five swing states -- Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Michigan -- and is leading in Arizona and Nevada. What makes the Republican victory bigger is the fact that they have also taken control of the Senate and are leading in the election for the House of Representatives.

In his victory speech, Trump thanked his supporters, running mate JD Vance, wife Melania Trump and his children for their support in what has been a challenging campaign. He also gave a shoutout to Tesla CEO and X boss Elon Musk, who has been voicing support for Trump.

"Respect Choice Of American People": China On Trump's Victory

China expressed respect for the U.S. election result and congratulated Donald Trump on his victory while an official newspaper called for a "pragmatic" approach to China-U.S. relations to handle their differences properly. Trump, a Republican who has promised to implement stiff tariffs, recaptured the White House with a sweeping victory over Democrat Kamala Harris in Tuesday's election.

Biden Hails Kamala Harris "Integrity' And "Courage" After Election Loss

US President Joe Biden praised Kamala Harris for her "integrity" and "courage" Wednesday after the Democratic vice president's election defeat by Republican Donald Trump. "What America saw today was the Kamala Harris I know and deeply admire. She's been a tremendous partner and public servant full of integrity, courage and character," Biden said in a statement after Harris's concession speech.

Barack Obama Congratulates Trump On His Election Victory

Former president Barack Obama on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, noting the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.

Donald Trump is set to return to the White House, having promised action on issues including immigration, the economy and the war in Ukraine.

He looks likely to enjoy plenty of support for his political agenda in Congress after his Republican Party regained control of the Senate.

In his victory speech, Trump vowed he would "govern by a simple motto: Promises made, promises kept. We're going to keep our promises."

But in some cases, he has given little detail of how he might achieve his aims.

Asked in 2023 by Fox News whether he would abuse his power or target political opponents, he replied he would not, "except for day one".

"No, no, no, other than day one. We're closing the border, and we're drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I'm not a dictator."

1) Deport undocumented migrants

While campaigning, Trump promised the biggest mass deportations of undocumented migrants in US history.

He also pledged to complete the building of a wall at the border with Mexico that was started during his first presidency.

The number of crossings at the US southern border hit record levels at the end of last year during the Biden-Harris administration, before falling in 2024.

Experts have told the BBC that deportations on the scale promised by Trump would face huge legal and logistical challenges - and could slow economic growth.

2) Moves on economy, tax and tariffs

Exit poll data has suggested the economy was a key issue for voters. Trump has promised to "end inflation" - which rose to high levels under President Joe Biden before falling again. But a president's power to directly influence prices is limited. He has also promised sweeping tax cuts, extending his overhaul from 2017. He has proposed making tips tax-free, abolishing tax on social security payments and shaving corporation tax.

He has proposed new tariffs of at least 10% on most foreign goods, to cut the trade deficit. Imports from China could bear an additional 60% tariff, he has said. Some economists have warned that such moves could push up prices for ordinary people.

3) Cut climate regulations

During his first presidency, Trump rolled back hundreds of environmental protections and made America the first nation to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. This time, he has again vowed to cut regulations, particularly as a way to help the American car industry. He has constantly attacked electric vehicles, promising to overturn Biden's targets encouraging the switch to cleaner cars.

He has pledged to increase production of US fossil fuels -

Things Trump says he will do as president

vowing to "drill, drill, drill" on day one in favour of renewable energy sources such as wind power.

He wants to open areas such as the Arctic wilderness to oil drilling, which

he argues would lower energy coststhough analysts are sceptical.

4) End Ukraine war

Trump has criticised the tens of

billions of dollars spent by the US on supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia - and has pledged to end the conflict "within 24 hours" through a negotiated deal.

He has not said what he thinks either side should give up. Democrats say the move would embolden President Vladimir Putin.

Trump wants the US to disentangle itself from foreign conflicts generally. Regarding the war in Gaza - Trump has positioned himself as a staunch supporter of Israel, but has urged the American ally to end its operation.

He has also pledged to end the related violence in Lebanon, but gave no detail on how.

5) No abortion ban

Against the wishes of some of his supporters, Trump said during the presidential debate with Kamala Harris that he would not sign into law a national abortion ban.

In 2022, the nationwide constitutional right to abortion was overturned by the Supreme Court, which had a majority of conservative judges following Trump's first presidency.

Reproductive rights became a key campaigning topic for Harris, and several states approved measures to protect or expand abortion rights on polling day.

Trump himself has regularly said states should be free to decide their own laws on abortion, but struggled to find a consistent message of his own.

6) Pardon some Jan 6 rioters

Trump has said he will "free" some of those convicted of offences during the riot in Washington DC on 6 January 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol building in an effort to thwart the 2020 election victory of Joe Biden.

Several deaths were blamed on the violence, which Trump was accused of inciting.

He has worked to downplay the riot's significance and recast the hundreds of supporters who were convicted as political prisoners. He continues to say many of them are "wrongfully imprisoned", though has acknowledged that "a couple of them, probably they got out of control".

7) Sack Special Counsel Jack Smith

Trump has vowed to sack "within two seconds" of taking office the veteran prosecutor leading two criminal investigations against him. Special Counsel Jack Smith has indicted Trump over alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and over his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Trump denies any wrongdoing, and managed to prevent either case coming to trial before the election.

He says Mr Smith has subjected him to a "political witch hunt".

Trump will return to the White House as the first ever president with a criminal conviction, having been found guilty in New York of falsifying business records.

Trump's Win Raises Challenges for Trudeau

OTTAWA: Donald Trump's return to the White House next year could bring economic pain and difficult decisions for Canada's Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, once branded a "far-left lunatic" by the Republican.

The potential consequences include trade disputes that push Canada into recession since 75% of its exports go to the US, as well as thousands of people pouring north across the US border, analysts and economists said. Trump's victory adds to Trudeau's

Harris Congratulates Trump, Promises Peaceful Transition

Washington,: (IANS) US VicePresident Kamala Harris said on Wednesday that she had spoken to President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him and also assure him "we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power".

Harris, who lost comprehensively to Trump, also said in a delayed concession speech from Howard University, her alma mater in Washington DC, "A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results. That principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny, and anyone who seeks public trust must honour it. At the same time, in our nation, we owe loyalty not to a President or a party but to the Constitution of the US."

US Stocks Hit Record Highs as Trump Returns

U.S. stocks rallied sharply to close at record highs on Wednesday after Republican Donald Trump won the 2024 U.S. presidential election in a stunning comeback four years after being voted out of the White House. The Dow Industrials, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each ended at record levels with investors expecting lower taxes, deregulation and a U.S. president who is not shy to weigh in on everything from the stock market to the dollar, although fresh tariffs could bring challenges in the form of a higher deficit and inflation.

Will Trump's victory spark a global trade war?

Following Donald Trump’s presidential victory, global businesses and economists are evaluating the impact of his campaign pledge to impose broad tariffs on all imported goods, ranging from 10% to 20%. Previously, Trump’s tariffs targeted specific countries, like China, or industries, such as steel. However, this blanket approach could significantly raise prices worldwide. Trump has especially voiced frustration with Europe, accusing the EU of restrictive policies on U.S. cars and agricultural goods. He warned that Europe must “pay a big price” for the U.S. market access its auto industry enjoys. In response, shares of German automakers BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen dropped by 5% to 7%, as the U.S. is their largest export market.

Starmer congratulates Trump in first phone call

Sir Keir Starmer and Donald Trump have agreed the relationship between the UK and US is "incredibly strong" and will "continue to thrive", Downing Street has said.

In the first phone call between the pair after the US election, the PM offered his "hearty congratulations" to Trump after his "historic victory" and said he looked forward to working closely with the President-elect, a No 10 spokeswoman said. It comes after Kemi Badenoch urged Sir Keir to apologise for "derogatory" comments made about Trump by David Lammy before he was foreign secretary.

The G7 finance ministers are cautioning Trump against igniting a trade war, emphasizing the importance of global economic alliances. Europe has already prepared a list of retaliatory tariffs on

U.S. products like Harley-Davidson motorcycles and bourbon, reminiscent of past responses to American tariffs on steel and aluminum. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that a

Protests erupt in Israel after Netanyahu fires defence minister

Protests have erupted in Israel after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired the country's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. Netanyahu said a "crisis of trust" between the two leaders led to his decision, adding that his trust in Gallant had "eroded" in recent months and Foreign Minister Israel Katz would

step in to replace him. Gallant said his removal was due to disagreement on three issues, including his belief that it is possible to get the remaining hostages back from Gaza if Israel makes "painful concessions" which it "can bear". Many protesters on the streets were calling for Netanyahu to resign, and demanding the new defence minister prioritise a hostage deal.

Yunus congratulates Donald Trump amid murmurs of discontent over election outcome

Following Donald Trump’s election, Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, congratulated him, expressing hope for collaboration on global peace and stability. Yunus’ letter to Trump came amid concern in Dhaka’s political circles over Trump’s recent critical comments on Bangladesh’s treatment of minorities, which he condemned as “barbaric violence.”

This reaction marks a shift from Yunus’ longstanding ties with the Clintons, with some Bangladeshi media calling Trump’s statements

a “profound lack of understanding.” However, Dhaka observers noted that Yunus, who previously expressed disappointment over Trump’s 2016 victory, is now aiming to mend ties with the new U.S. administration. Trump’s presidency is seen as potentially altering U.S. relations with

Bangladesh, where Yunus’ interim regime has faced accusations of allowing Islamic fundamentalism and minority violence. Amid these tensions, reports of recent attacks on Hindu-owned businesses in Chittagong, allegedly involving the army and police, have sparked social media outrage. Some in Bangladesh, hopeful for changes in U.S. policy, believe Trump’s close ties with Indian Prime Minister Modi might indirectly support former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Additionally, there are speculations of early elections, with concerns over fairness, as the Yunus-led regime may edge out the opposition Awami League.

major trade conflict could shrink the global economy by as much as 7%, roughly the size of both the French and German economies combined. For the UK, navigating this potential trade dispute is particularly complex post-Brexit. With stronger ties to the EU, the UK faces a difficult choice: align with Europe or seek a distinct exemption from U.S. tariffs. Trump’s top trade adviser, Bob Lighthizer, noted the U.S. hesitancy for a UK deal if it continues aligning with EU standards. The UK government may try to mediate, but it’s uncertain whether this role would hold influence. If the U.S., the world’s largest economy, embraces protectionism, other countries may follow suit. Trump’s tariff rhetoric highlights the fragile balance of global trade dynamics—this is how serious trade wars can begin.

Australia's government says it will introduce world-first legislation to ban children under 16 from social media. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the proposed laws, to be tabled in parliament next week, were aimed at mitigating the "harm" social media was inflicting on Australian children. Trump's 'Day 1' Promise To Shut Clean Energy Projects Send Stocks Tumbling

Washington: Donald Trump's pledge to stop renewable energy projects on "day one" of his potential presidency has sent shockwaves through the industry, causing renewable energy shares to plummet. “We are going to make sure that that ends on day one,” Trump said about offshore wind farms.

According to a Reuters report, the world's largest offshore wind developer Orsted fell as much as 14 per cent while wind turbine makers Vestas and Nordex traded down around 11 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively.

This isn't Trump's first rodeo with renewable energy; in his previous campaign, he claimed that solar panels require massive spaces, like entire deserts, to generate energy. However, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, the actual land requirement for solar panels is relatively small, with most utility-scale solar operating today taking up less than 600,000 acres.

If Trump follows through on his promise, it could have significant implications for the renewable energy sector as he might try to eliminate or reduce tax credits for

renewable energy projects, which could cripple the industry's growth.

He could dismantle environmental regulations put in place by the Biden administration, making it easier for fossil fuel companies to operate.

A Trump presidency could lead to a shift

in energy policy, prioritising fossil fuels over renewable energy sources. Trump has vowed to end the electric vehicle mandate, which could harm the EV industry and its related infrastructure. Donald Trump's stance on electric vehicles has taken a dramatic turn.

Just last December, he posted on Truth Social that EV supporters should "rot in hell". However, after talks with Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO and the world's richest man, Trump suddenly softened his tone. Now, he claims to be "for

electric cars" and thinks they're suitable for "a small slice" of the population. At a recent rally, Trump admitted that his change of heart was largely due to Musk's endorsement. "I'm for electric cars - I have to be, because Elon endorsed me," Trump said. "I have no choice". This shift is quite surprising, considering Trump's history of criticising electric vehicles, even calling them a "hoax".

It's essential to note that Trump's ability to implement these changes would depend on various factors, including congressional support and potential pushback from states, businesses, and activists. Nevertheless, the uncertainty surrounding Trump's energy policies has already caused concern among renewable energy investors and proponents.

Solar stocks are plummeting due to concerns that a second Trump presidency could jeopardise the Inflation Reduction Act, a crucial legislation that has driven a clean energy surge in the US by offering tax incentives to boost solar power. The act has been instrumental in fuelling growth in the renewable energy sector.

Trump's 'America First' Agenda May Lead To Tighter H-1B Visa Rules: Experts

New Delhi:

With Donald Trump all set to become US president, Indian exporters may face high customs duties for goods like automobiles, textiles and pharmaceuticals if the new US administration decides to pursue the ‘America First' agenda, opined trade experts.

Experts also said that Trump could also tighten H-1B visa rules, impacting costs and growth for Indian IT firms.

Over 80 per cent of India's IT export earnings come from the US, making it vulnerable to changes in visa policies.

The US is India's largest trading partner, accounting for over USD 190 billion of annual trade.

Trump had earlier called India a "large tariff abuser" and in October 2020 labelled India as the 'tariff king'.

These remarks suggest that Trump's second term could bring tougher trade negotiations. he said.

"His America First agenda would likely push for protective measures, such as reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods, potentially adding barriers for key Indian exports like automobiles, wines, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. These increases could make Indian products less competitive in the US, impacting revenue in these sectors," Srivastava said.

However, a tougher US stance on China could create new opportunities for Indian exporters, he added.

The bilateral trade in goods between the two countries stood at USD 120 billion in 2023-24 as against USD 129.4 billion in 2022-23.

"With Trump coming to power, we are going to enter a different era of protectionism," Dhar said adding sectors like electronics may get a hit.

He added that as earlier Trump has walked out of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), there could be dark clouds on IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity).

The 14-nation bloc was launched in Tokyo by the US and other Indo-Pacific countries on May 23, 2022.

"Let us see what he does with IPEF," Dhar cautioned and added that nothing is expected to move in the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) DG Ajay Sahai said that "we could expect Mr Trump to push for more balanced trade. But trade disputes might arise around tariffs". Going by the increasing trend of protectionism, Sahai said, the same would continue with tighter immigration rules.

India could face higher tariffs on exports like textiles, chemicals, pharma and auto/ engineering products, Sen said."India would have to either seek alternative markets (which will be difficult) or retaliate with its own tariffs on US exports. Alternately, we must be ready for a trade deal that is attractive to the US while not just protecting our current interests but creating newer ones," he added.

Further Srivastava said that Trump has expressed concerns about outsourcing, and while some statements may be campaign rhetoric, India should prepare for possible measures affecting IT exports. H-1B visa policies are

crucial for the movement of skilled professionals, especially from India's IT sector. "Trump's stricter immigration stance could lead to changes in visa rules, impacting Indian IT professionals and raising costs for Indian IT companies," the GTRI Founder said.

However, he added that Trump is expected to ease labour and environmental standards, which could make it easier for Indian exports to enter the US market.

"Trump would likely push India to align closely with US geopolitical aims, potentially expanding India's role as an alternative supplier in sectors like electronics and pharmaceuticals but potentially limiting India's foreign policy flexibility," he said.

Likewise, India's increasing demand for advanced technology, energy, and capital goods from the US opens avenues for expanding bilateral trade. India buys military equipment and Boeings worth billions of dollars from the US and conducts its over 90 per cent global trade in US Dollars.

"The US firms like Google, Facebook gather Terabytes of data every day and earn billions of advertising dollars every year from India. Amazon which had to withdraw from China, is the biggest online retailer in India. The US earns dollars from India from various engagements and not just trade," Srivastava said.

"Probably starting from (President Barack) Obama the U.S. has become much more cautious about its global commitments," he said, pointing to a U.S. reluctance to deploy troops and its withdrawal from Afghanistan under President Joe Biden. "President Trump may be more articulate and expressive in that regard," he said during a panel discussion with the foreign ministers of Australia and New Zealand. But, he added, "it's important to look at the U.S. more nationally than purely in terms of the ideology of the administration of the day."

Top Court Criticizes UP for Illegal Demolitions

New Delhi: Pulling up the Uttar Pradesh government for demolishing homes without due process, the Supreme Court today said homes cannot be razed overnight and families must be given time to vacate. The bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud was hearing a 2020 suo motu case. The case was based on a letter by Manoj Tibrewal Aakash, whose house was demolished in 2019. The petitioner had said his home was razed without prior notice for alleged encroachment on a highway. This also comes at a time when a separate bench of the top court is hiring petitions challenging "bulldozer justice" -- a term used to refer to demolishing properties belonging to people accused in criminal cases.

Special Story

Indian American innovators have been creating an indomitable impact in America. From being the brains behind many cuttingedge start-ups to dominating the top-rung of some of America’s most high-tech organizations, Indian-origin talent has established a rare niche in the STEM sector in the country. The latest such inventor to join the list of many is California based – Rafe Husain.

Born in Lucknow, India Rafe is the man behind the iconic – Calibike – said to be the world’s fastest and lightest electric bike.

The electric bike was recently launched by the mayor of Corona in Southern California. The eco-friendly bike, designed to revolutionize city commuting, aligns with California’s goal of achieving zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. will be complementing America’s first high-speed passenger rail system by offering a last-mile solution for travelers on the Brightline West rail line that connects Las Vegas to Southern California.

Husain talks to Hi India about the speed of his bike and why it serves the environment

The bike of the future

It won’t be a misnomer to call Calibike, the bike of the future. Explaining why the e-bike is different from others, Husain says, “Calibike is more than just an electric bike.” He adds, “It is a critical part of the broader shift towards sustainable, integrated transport solutions.” He says, “By connecting with public

transport systems like Brightline West, we’re offering commuters a greener, healthier, and more efficient way to travel that aligns with California’s forward-thinking policies.”

Talking about his background, Husain tells us that he is an electrical engineer with extensive expertise in 5G base station radio design and embedded systems. His work involves the use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers to develop and test cutting-edge technology. He has also contributed to embedded motor control for DC motors and has played a key role in designing critical components in 5G systems.”

Talking about his very special invention Rafe Husain says, “The thought began when I had medical issues with driving and started looking at alternatives. I bought an e-bike for myself, but it was very heavy and slow. It was then that I started experimenting with faster and lighter e-bikes. My first e-bike was 55

Husain studied at the University of Michigan where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Engineering. He went on to get a Master of Science in Engineering degree from Wayne State University. With his new innovation he has shown that there is always scope to improvise and think-ahead. He also has to his credit several patents and has been recognized with the New Inventions Award from the University of Michigan for a device that senses ice thickness.

Zofeen Maqsood

Somewhere between 60 and 70 million Americans have digestive conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, acid reflux, chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and hemorrhoids. Some of these will need to be treated through medication and possibly even surgery. But others can improve by making a few daily tweaks to your lifestyle.

Healthy habits are essential to keep your digestive system running smoothly, even if you aren’t experiencing any current symptoms. Here are daily practices recommended by gastroenterologists for maintaining optimal gut health. Prioritize the Right Foods and Timing

For gut health, diet is key. Dr. Harpreet Pall, a pediatric gastroenterologist, emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to support beneficial gut bacteria. Consuming fiber is essential, with U.S. dietary guidelines suggesting about 38 grams daily for men and 25 grams for women. Dr. Justin Field, a gastroenterologist, recommends fiber-rich foods like kiwi, apples, and prunes, which help digestion naturally. Timing is equally important, especially for managing acid reflux. Field advises eating smaller, more frequent meals and leaving at least two hours between dinner and bedtime to prevent nighttime reflux.

Stay Aware of Bowel Changes

Daily bowel habits offer vital insight into your gut health, according to Dr. Field. Frequent changes such as loose stools, blood in the stool, or unexplained weight loss are signs worth discussing with a doctor, as they may indicate gastrointestinal

conditions. Screening is also crucial for preventive care; guidelines recommend colorectal cancer screening at 45. Additional screenings for esophageal and anal cancers may be advised based on personal risk factors like age, family history, or certain lifestyle factors.

Stay Physically Active

Movement aids digestion, particularly for those who experience constipation. Dr. Reezwana Chowdhury of Johns Hopkins explains that regular exercise supports colonic transit, helping food move through the colon efficiently. Chowdhury advises at least 30 minutes of exercise three

Ftimes a week, even if it’s a brisk walk. Physical activity has been shown to improve gut microbiome diversity and boost beneficial bacteria production, making it essential for gut health.

Drink Plenty of Water and Limit Artificial Sweeteners

Hydration is fundamental to digestion, says Dr. Rachel Schiesser. Aim for 64 ounces of water daily, or around eight 8-ounce glasses. Alternatively, drinking half your body weight in ounces can be a good target. Water supports digestion, while artificial sweeteners can interfere with gut bacteria, so it’s best to avoid them. Too much water can cause bloating, so

inding a tick on your skin after spending time outdoors can be alarming, as these parasites can transmit over 15 diseases, including Lyme disease, Powassan virus, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, according to the CDC. A particular concern is babesiosis, often referred to as “American malaria” due to its increasing prevalence and similar symptoms, which include headache, fever, chills, nausea, and respiratory distress.

A recent study published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases reveals a significant rise in babesiosis cases across the U.S., averaging a 9% increase per year from 2015 to 2022. The research, led by Paddy Ssentongo at Penn State Health, analyzed data from over 3,500 patients. The alarming surge is attributed to climate change, which has expanded the habitat of the blacklegged tick, the primary vector for babesiosis. In the Northeast, cases have skyrocketed—1,422% in Maine and 1,602% in Vermont from 2011 to 2019.

balance is key

Limit

Alcohol and NSAID Use

Alcohol and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen can irritate the stomach and intestines, warns Dr. Benjamin Lebwohl. Excessive alcohol intake, even below binge drinking levels, can disrupt digestion, and regular NSAID use can lead to inflammation. Protecting the gut from these substances supports long-term health. These expert-recommended practices can be an effective way to support a healthy digestive system.

Ticks are hitching rides on white-tailed deer, which are also moving to new areas due to warmer temperatures. These ticks acquire various pathogens by feeding on infected small mammals, further complicating the situation. The study found that 42% of individuals with babesiosis also had one or more tick-borne diseases; 41% had Lyme disease, while others were infected with ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis. Interestingly, those with multiple infections may experience better outcomes than those with only babesiosis. The risk of mortality from babesiosis was higher in individuals without co-infections. Researchers speculate that the presence of other tickborne infections might enhance the immune response. Preventive measures are crucial. Wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellant, showering after outdoor activities, and conducting thorough tick checks can help reduce the risk of infection.

Paddy Ssentongo, an infection disease fellow at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and his colleagues studied more than 3,500 Americans with babesiosis from 2015 to 2022. Their first striking finding is how fast the disease is exploding across the U.S. population.

Sunil Gavaskar's Warning To Under-Fire Gautam Gambhir. Says "Unless Things Improve..."

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir finds himself in the line of fire after New Zealand's unprecedented 3-0 win in the subcontinent. India's home legacy was torn into pieces by the Kiwis, prompting many to question Gambhir's coaching philosophy. Some tough questions have been asked, not just from Gambhir but also from India captain Rohit Sharma, since the series concluded. India great Sunil Gavaskar feels even harder questions could be asked if India don't go on to do well against Australia in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Gavaskar didn't find any surprise as Gambhir and Rohit found themselves surrounded by highly critical questions. India's recent losses - against Sri Lanka and New Zealand - have triggered a string of negative sentiments towards the team

Unless things improve in Australia, questions will definitely be asked and harder questions than what you are asking now," he told India Today.

Sunil Gavaskar has said that if India captain Rohit Sharma is not playing the series opener in Australia during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy then vicecaptain Jasprit Bumrah should lead the side for the entire tour. 'I was scared'

Vidya Balan on rejecting Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Actor Vidya Balan says she rejected the offer to star in "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" as she feared that if she didn’t perform well in the sequel, it would ruin the impact of her work in the original movie.

Balan starred alongside Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan's 2007 hit "Bhool Bhulaiyaa", playing the role of Avni/ Manjulika. Fifteen years later, its sequel, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2", directed by Anees Bazmee and starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead, was released and became a huge blockbuster at the box office.

"I was so scared because 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' has given me so much. So I said, if I did something wrong, then everything will go in vain (sab par paani fir jayega). I told Anees ji that ‘I can't take this risk,’” Balan told reporters.

"But when they came back to me with the third part, I loved the script. I was dying to work on this with Anees bhai and Bhushan. And then it only kept getting better," Balan said.

The actor said she liked what the team did with the sequel, which helped her make the decision to say yes to "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3", set to release on Diwali, November 1.

"And then the icing on the cake was

working with Madhuri Dixit ma'am. So, I think it only kept getting better, and I accumulated the courage. I had a great time. He (Bazmee) is the king of entertainment. I had the opportunity to work with him,” she added. Balan was speaking at a film event where a new version of the franchise's iconic song “Ami Jo Tomar” was unveiled. Besides her, Aaryan and Dixit were present.

At the event, Balan and Dixit performed the song in perfect sync.

At one point, Balan slipped and fell but handled the situation with grace.

Jaishankar: Hindu Temple Vandalism Deeply Concerning

India foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Tuesday the vandalism of a Hindu temple in Canada on Monday was deeply concerning.

"What happened yesterday at the Hindu temple in Canada was obviously deeply concerning," he told reporters in the Australian capital Canberra while on an official visit.

The incident happened weeks after

Ottawa expelled six Indian diplomats, linking them to the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in 2023 in Canada. Canada has accused the Indian government of conducting a broad campaign against South Asian dissidents in Canada, which New Delhi denies.

The incident has increased tensions between Canada and India, and between Sikh separatists and Indian diplomats.

Two Hindu temples were also vandalised in Canberra last month, which Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said was upsetting for members of the Indian community.

"People across Australia have a right to be safe and respected, people also have a right to peaceful protest, people have a right to express their views peacefully," she told reporters.

by the State to fulfill directive principles of state policy -guidelines the Constitution lays down for governments to follow while making laws and policies. Among the laws that Article 31C protects is Article 39B. Article 39B lays down that the State shall direct its policy towards ensuring that the ownership and control of the material resources of the community are so distributed as best to subserve the common good. On this, the Chief Justice remarked, "Does material resource of a community used in 39B include privately owned resources? Theoretically, the answer is yes, the phrase may include privately owned resources. However, this court is unable to subscribe itself to the minority view of Justice Iyer in Ranganath Reddy. We hold that not every resource owned by an individual can be considered a material resource of a community only because it meets the qualifier of material needs."

Ex-Canadian Minister Reveals Khalistani Plan to Divide Hindus and Sikhs

Indian-origin Canadian politician Ujjal Dev Dosanjh has raised concerns that Khalistani groups may be trying to create a rift between Hindus and Sikhs in Canada, with hopes that this division could also affect India. The former Canadian MP and minister criticized Canadian political leaders, stating they are largely ignoring the rising Khalistani violence, while law enforcement is inadequate in addressing it. Dosanjh’s remarks follow a recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, where a consular camp was assisting Canadian and Indian citizens in obtaining life certificates for pensions. This incident occurred amidst worsening relations between Canada and India, particularly after Canadian Prime Minister Justin

Trudeau accused India of involvement in the killing of Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an allegation India has denied. Calling the Brampton attack "unfortunate and unacceptable," Dosanjh stated that Khalistani violence has been prevalent in Canada and has escalated since Trudeau took office. He also highlighted the lack of prosecution for recent inflammatory statements by Khalistani leaders. Dosanjh emphasized that the targeted consular camp was serving all Indian communities, not just Hindus, underscoring the inclusivity of the event.

In a dramatic return to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which convened for the first time in six years, lawmakers witnessed a heated exchange on Monday. Players must get the mindset right to handle Australian pitches, says Rohit Sharma

After India's batting frailties were brutally exposed in a 3-0 home series defeat by New Zealand, captain Rohit Sharma said it was important that his players get in the right frame of mind for what promises to be a challenging tour of Australia.

After being dismissed for 46 and 156 in Bengaluru and Pune, the latest capitulation left Indian great Sachin Tendulkar wondering whether it was just poor shot selection that let them down or if they lacked preparation and

match practice. India's batters must now prepare for the switch from the turning tracks on home soil to the pace and bounce of Australian pitches, with the opening test in Perth looming on Nov. 22.

"We do talk a lot about the game but sitting with every individual and telling them what needs to be done or how they need to get their mindset right is going to be challenging," Rohit told reporters. "They come with a certain mindset, certain thinking about their own games. It has given them success in the past. But we all understand Australia is going to be a different ball game." The 37-yearold added that it would be crucial to create the right atmosphere for those players who have not yet experienced the intensity of a test in Australia.

Canadian Official Summoned After Allegations Against Amit Shah By Minister

Hemant Soren urges PM, Shah to clear Jharkhand's Rs.1.36 lakh-crore coal dues

Ahead of the scheduled visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to poll-bound Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday requested the Centre with folded hands to clear Rs 1.36 lakhcrore coal dues to the state.

Modi is scheduled to address two rallies in Jharkhand on November 4 while Shah will address three public meetings on November 3.

Rubbishing a Canadian minister's claims that Home Minister Amit Shah had ordered the targeting of Khalistani extremists in the country, India has termed them "absurd and baseless" and said a Canadian diplomat had been summoned on Thursday. Canada's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison had told members of the country's Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security on Tuesday that Mr Shah had ordered a campaign of violence, intimidation and intelligence gathering targeting Khalistani extremists. Replying to a question on Friday, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said a representative of the Canadian High Commission had been summoned on Thursday and a diplomatic note was handed over.

Fears Of 2020 Repeat:

Trump's Voter Fraud Claims Raise Concerns

With just days until Election Day, former President Donald Trump’s repeated, baseless claims of voter fraud in Pennsylvania are fueling concerns that he may attempt to overturn results in key battleground states. Trump’s rhetoric, echoing the lead-up to the January 6 Capitol attack, raises fears of potential violence and disruptions. In a recent post, Trump alleged, “We caught them CHEATING BIG in Pennsylvania,” and called for criminal prosecutions. A senior official from the Harris campaign dismissed his claims as an attempt to undermine public confidence in the election, suggesting Trump is setting the stage to blame a potential loss on fraud. Policy strategist Kyle Miller warns that Trump and his allies are "laying groundwork" to challenge adverse results, having learned from their unsuccessful 2020 efforts.

"The PM and the home minister are coming to Jharkhand. I once again request them with folded hands to clear the outstanding (coal dues) of Rs 1.36 lakh crore to Jharkhandis. This amount is crucial for Jharkhand," Soren posted on X. He also appealed to BJP MPs to facilitate clearance of the amount.

"I would also appeal to my BJP colleagues, especially the MPs, to help Jharkhandis in getting our dues," Soren posted on

the microblogging site, sharing a copy of a letter to the prime minister.

Soren emphasised that the dues with central PSUs, like Coal India, are "rightful" to the state and claimed that "non-clearance is causing irreparable harm to Jharkhand’s development".

Srinagar: Security forces gunned down two terrorists during an encounter in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning. The encounter started after the security forces launched an anti-terrorist operation in the Halkan Gali area.

Earlier in the morning, an encounter broke out in Srinagar's Khaynar area during a cordon and search operation by a joint team of police and security forces. The anti-terrorist operations follow a terror attack on two migrant workers a day earlier. The two men from

Uttar Pradesh were shot at in Budgam district - in fourth such targeted attack on migrants in the Kashmir Valley in the last two weeks. The deadliest attack was on October 20 when seven people - including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar - were shot dead by terrorists at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal district. National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, whose son Omar Abdullah took charge as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir last month, said the surge in terror attacks could be an attempt to destabilise the newly formed government and demanded an independent probe.

"I, Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, am drawing your attention towards a serious issue which is creating obstacles in the path of state's development. "In spite of provisions in the law and judicial pronouncements, coal companies are not making any payment... These questions have been raised at various forums, including your kind office, Finance Ministry and NITI Aayog. But till now this compensation (Rs 1.36 lakh crore) has not yet been paid," he said.

Why Russia Has Fined

Google $20 decillion (- a 2 followed by 34 zeroes)

This sum far exceeds any reasonable financial scale, surpassing the entire global economy many times over.

New Delhi: Russia issued a fine against Google, estimated at an astronomical $20 decillion - a 2 followed by 34 zeroes. The unprecedented penalty targets YouTube, owned by Google's parent company Alphabet, over the platform's decision to block Russian state-run media channels in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This sum far exceeds any reasonable financial scale, surpassing the entire global economy many times over. The penalty arose after a Russian court ruled that Google violated national broadcasting rules by barring channels from Russian state-backed media outlets on YouTube. The fine is compounded by an additional ruling that demands the restoration of these channels, with the fines doubling each day if the platform fails to comply within a nine-month period.

Things to Say to Your Relative Whose Politics You Hate

There’s a lot of stress that people carry knowing everybody is feeling tense about this,” says Jenna Glover, chief clinical officer with the mental health app Headspace. “Some people have actually lost relationships, and it's important to acknowledge how that impacts our mental health.”

Set a Clear Boundary Early:

Politely let people know ahead of time that you’d prefer to avoid politics at your gathering. Setting this expectation, as Bradford Stucki, a psychotherapist, advises, can prevent disagreements from surfacing. When planning a family event, reach out to guests with a gentle request to keep the focus on the celebration itself. Reinforce this with a friendly reminder if the conversation veers off course, using statements like, “Let’s keep the focus here today.”

Ask for Personal Stories:

When a family member shares a political view that differs from yours, pause and encourage them to share the personal experiences that shaped it. Jill DeTemple, a professor at Southern Methodist University, notes that highly charged topics often become lists of talking points without context. By inviting them to tell their story, you create an opportunity to understand their perspective better and foster a more respectful, open dialogue.

Acknowledge Diverse Perspectives:

Aries

Ganesha says that people of the Aries zodiac may face some domestic or work-related problems at the beginning of the week, due to which their minds will be a little disturbed. While facing the challenges that come suddenly in life, sometimes irritability will also be seen in your nature. During this time, you will need to have a lot of control over your speech and nature.

the Libra zodiac, the week may start with some problems but in the second half they will get the desired pleasant results. People associated with business may have to run around a bit more in connection with their business this week.

our understanding of current events, opening the door for mutual understanding.

Suggest Compromise:

Redirect conversations toward finding common ground. If political disagreements arise, as Glover suggests, focus on brainstorming solutions or compromises. Asking questions like, “What solution might work for everyone?” encourages collaboration. Rather than debating, you shift focus to problemsolving together, helping everyone feel like they’re on the same team. This way, the conversation is productive, not divisive.

Sometimes, humor is the best tool to diffuse heated situations. That’s why a simple comedic device called the "comic triple" can work well, says Paul Osincup, a comedian and author of The Humor Habit.

Recognize that each person’s experiences shape their opinions.

Nealin Parker of Common Ground USA recommends a phrase like, “If I’d only seen your news sources, I might feel the same.” This allows you to empathize while gently reminding them that different experiences can lead to different views. This approach can encourage reflection on how life experiences influence

Say, “Tell Me More”:

When a loved one expresses a strong opinion, consider simply saying, “Tell me more.”

As Parker points out, this phrase can quickly shift the conversation away from a rant toward a more thoughtful discussion. It shows you’re interested, which may make them feel heard and more likely to reciprocate with respect. Often, they may even self-moderate their language, lowering the emotional temperature in the room.

Ask for Permission to Share:

If you’d like to present your viewpoint, ask first. Glover suggests using a technique known as elicit-provideelicit, where you first ask their opinion, then share yours, and end by inviting their thoughts. By asking permission, you signal respect and openness, making the other person more receptive to your perspective. This approach is especially useful for avoiding combative responses, as it encourages a balanced exchange, rather than a one-sided monologue.

Taurus

Ganesha says that the beginning of the week is going to be very auspicious for the people of the Taurus zodiac sign. During this time, your planned work will be completed on time, due to which you will see amazing enthusiasm and energy. There will be full support from seniors and juniors in the workplace.

Gemini

Ganesha says that this week is auspicious and successful for the people of the Gemini zodiac, but to complete their planned work, they will have to leave laziness and work with full dedication. If you have been searching for employment for a long time, this week is good luck for you.

Cancer

Ganesha says that people of the Cancer zodiac sign will have to avoid doing distant losses in favor of nearby gains this week. Do not make any promises to anyone at the beginning of the week, which you will have to face trouble in fulfilling in the future.

Leo

Ganesha says that the beginning of the week is of good luck for the people of the Leo zodiac sign. With the help of an influential person, long pending work will be completed, which will make your mind very happy.

Virgo

Ganesha says that people of the Virgo zodiac sign will have to be careful, otherwise, they may have to face unnecessary problems. Avoid arguing with anyone in your workplace at the beginning of the week, otherwise, it may turn into a dispute, due to which your image may also be affected.

Libra

Ganesha says that for the people of

Ganesha says that the people of the Scorpio zodiac should not be careless about debt, disease, and enemies at the beginning of this week, otherwise, all these three can prove to be a headache for you. At the beginning of the week, you may have to spend more money out of pocket on home repairs or luxuries-related things, due to which you may be forced to borrow money.

Sagittarius

Ganesha says that this week is going to be very auspicious for the people of the Sagittarius zodiac sign. At the beginning of the week, you may hear some good news related to your career and business.

Capricorn

Ganesha says that for the people of Capricorn, this week will be seen as fulfilling the proverb of sometimes thick ghee and sometimes dry gram. The beginning of the week will be very wonderful and the planned work will be completed on time with the help of well-wishers.

Aquarius

Ganesha says that for Aquarius people, the beginning of the week will be spent solving some problems related to life. This week you may have to run around a little more to find solutions to familyrelated issues. You may feel a little sad due to the lack of support from younger brothers and sisters.

Pisces

Ganesha says that Pisces people will have to avoid losing their senses in excitement this week, otherwise, they may have to give up. Avoid haste in any work at the beginning of the week and do not sign any paper without reading and understanding it properly, otherwise, you may have to face big problems later. At the same time, you should also drive the vehicle with utmost care because there is a possibility of injury.

Texas Law Requires Hospitals to Ask Patients' Legal Status

TEXAS- Starting Friday, Texas hospitals must ask patients about their legal status in the U.S. and track treatment costs for those without legal status, following an order by Governor Greg Abbott. This move intensifies Texas' ongoing conflict with the Biden administration over immigration policies. Critics argue that the change may discourage people from seeking medical care, although responses are not required to receive treatment.

The mandate resembles a similar policy introduced in Florida by Governor Ron DeSantis. Texas hospitals have been preparing for the transition, assuring patients that their level of care will remain unaffected. Under Abbott’s executive order, hospitals must inquire whether patients are U.S. citizens and lawfully present. Patients can choose not to answer, and hospitals must inform them that responses won't impact their care, aligning with federal law. Hospitals will start reporting data to the state in March, without including personal information. They will categorize visits by inpatient and emergency care, document patients' immigration status, and calculate treatment costs. Costs for Medicaid, CHIP, and uninsured patients will also be reported.
