Blinken Says Israel Needs Post War Plan
"As Quickly As Possible", Warns Of Chaos
Washington: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that Israel needed a post-war plan as soon as possible after a senior Israeli official predicted that fighting in Gaza would last until the end of the year.
"In the absence of a plan for the day after, there won't be a day after. And this is where we need to go, and (what) we need to get, as quickly as possible," Blinken told reporters on a visit to Moldova. Such a plan would ensure that Israel is not in control of Gaza's security in the long term, he said.
"If it is, it will simply have an enduring insurgency on his hands for as far as one can see into the future," Blinken said.
President Joe Biden has supported Israel's response to the October 7 Hamas attack but has called on Israel to do more to protect civilians and has faced growing pressure as he seeks re-election in November.
Blinken said that a weekend Israeli strike that ignited an inferno in a displacement camp outside Rafah, killing 45 people according to Palestinian officials, was "horrific".
"Anyone who has seen the images cannot be deeply affected by them, just on a basic human level," Blinken said.
US Soldier in Russia Charged with Threatening Girlfriend
"Or if not, Hamas will be left in charge, which is not acceptable. Or if not, we'll have chaos, lawlessness and a vacuum that eventually will be filled again by Hamas or maybe something, if it's possible to imagine, even worse -- jihadists."
Sean Kingston to Return to Florida in $1M Fraud Case
Rapper Sean Kingston has agreed to be extradited to Florida, where he and his mother face allegations of committing more than $1m in fraud and theft. Mr Kingston signed paperwork waiving his right to challenge the extradition in a California court, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to the BBC.
He was arrested on 23 May in Fort Irwin, southern California, the same day Florida police raided his Fort Lauderdale home and arrested his mother.
Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said earlier that the military would need "another seven months" to "consolidate our success" against Hamas.
"We have been very clear with Israel on the imperative -- in this instance as in other instances -- to immediately investigate and determine exactly what happened and why it happened, and if accountability is necessary to make sure that there is accountability," Blinken said.
15 Killed As Tornadoes, Extreme Storms Hit Several US States
Washington: At least 15 people were killed across the central United States as tornadoes and other extreme storms hit several states including Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, officials said Sunday. Rescue efforts were ongoing and hundreds of thousands of customers were without power after the storms struck the Southern Plains region beginning late Saturday.
In Texas, Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington told a press conference that seven people were dead after a
tornado ripped through the Valley View area, north of Dallas, according to local ABC affiliate WFAA. Search and rescue operations were ongoing. Texas Governor Gregg Abbott signed a decree for four counties that frees up money and staff to help people whose homes were damaged or destroyed.
The twister destroyed homes and a gas station, and overturned vehicles on an interstate highway. Sappington called the damage "pretty extensive," in an interview with The Weather Channel.
In Oklahoma, at least two people were dead after a tornado hit Mayes County late Saturday, the county head of emergency management Johnny Janzen told the Fox News affiliate in Tulsa.
And in Arkansas, five people were killed in storms in the early hours of Sunday, authorities confirmed to local ABC station KATV. Power lines and trees were downed, and some areas experienced flash flooding.
Elon Musk Could Become Policy Adviser If Trump Wins Election: Report
Washington: Donald Trump is considering tapping billionaire Elon Musk as a policy adviser if the Republican presidential candidate reclaims the White House in November's election, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the talks.
The two have discussed ways for Musk, who runs the social media platform X as well as SpaceX and Tesla, to have "formal input and influence" over economic and border security policies, according to the Journal.
The WSJ also said Musk informed Trump about his ongoing influence campaign aimed at convincing powerful U.S. business leaders not to support Democratic President Joe Biden, who beat Trump in the 2020 election and is

seeking a second term.
Those talks, which included billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, also included discussions about funding a "datadriven project to prevent voter fraud,"
the outlet said, adding no further details were known. Representatives for Trump and Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Representatives for the Biden campaign also did not immediately respond.
Trump campaign spokesperson Brian Hughes told the Journal that only Trump will decide "what role an individual plays in his presidency." The WSJ said Musk did not respond to its requests for comment.
In March, following a meeting with Trump in Florida, Musk — one of world's wealthiest individuals — said he would not donate money to Trump or Biden. Instead, he aims "to use his clout ... to help defeat Biden by galvanizing the support of influential allies", said the WSJ, citing a person familiar with his thinking.
Moscow: A U.S. military serviceman detained in Russia on suspicion of theft has also been charged with threatening to kill his girlfriend, Russian independent outlet Mediazona reported on Monday, citing the local prosecutor's office.
Prosecutors in Vladivostok in Russia's Far East said they had approved an indictment of a U.S. citizen born in 1989. It did not name the U.S. citizen but the details matched Black's. The prosecutor's statement said the two had quarrelled and the American had subsequently "forcibly grabbed the girl by the neck, which she perceived as a real threat to her life". It did not say how or whether the accused had responded to the new charge.
Tesla Shareholders Urged to Reject Musk's $56B Pay
Washington: Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis said on Saturday it has urged Tesla shareholders to reject a $56 billion pay package for Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, which if passed would be the largest pay package for a CEO in corporate America. The report cited reasons like the "excessive size" of the pay deal, the dilutive effect upon exercise and the concentration of ownership. It also mentioned Musk's "slate of extraordinarily time-consuming projects" which have expanded with his high-profile purchase of Twitter, now known as X. The pay package was proposed by Tesla's board of directors, which has repeatedly come under fire for its close ties with the billionaire.

Vladimir Putin Warns Of "Serious Consequences" If Western Arms Hit Russia
Moscow: President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that there would be "serious consequences" if Western countries allowed Ukraine to use their weapons to strike targets in Russia, as sought by Kyiv.
The warning came as French President Emmanuel Macron said Kyiv should be allowed to "neutralise" Russian military bases from where Kremlin troops are firing missiles into Ukraine, and as President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the world not to tire of the war.
Putin's comments came after some NATO members as well as the alliance's chief Jens Stoltenberg have called to allow Ukraine to use their arms to step up attacks on Russian soil, after more than two years of war.
"This constant escalation can lead to serious consequences," Putin said during a visit to Uzbekistan.

World's rarest album to go on display in Australia
An album so rare and valuable that only a few ears have ever listened to it is set to go on display at an Australian gallery, giving the public a taste of the uber-exclusive tracks.
Housed in an ornate silver box, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin - recorded in secret by the Wu-Tang Clan over six years - was designed to be a piece of fine art. Only a single CD copy exists. The record by the pioneering hip-hop group is the most expensive ever sold. Currently, it is on loan to Tasmania's Museum of Old and New Art (Mona).
Putin warned that "we will do what we think is necessary"
they should be aware of what they are playing with," he said, noting that many European countries had "small territory" and a "dense population".
"And this factor, which they should keep
in mind before they talk about striking deep into Russian territory, is a serious thing," he said.
He added that even if Ukraine's forces carried out the strikes, responsibility for them would lie with Western suppliers
UK Parliament Dissolves Ahead Of July 4 General Election
London: The British parliament dissolved on Thursday ahead of a July 4 general election, which looks set to bring Labour to power after 14 years of Conservative rule.
Five weeks of campaigning officially began as 650 seats of members of parliament (MPs) became vacant at one minute past midnight (2301 GMT) in line with the electoral schedule.
The first week of campaigning has seen

a shaky start following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's rain-drenched election announcement, with many observers taking the downpour as a bad omen.
Sunak set the election for July 4, instead of later in the year as had been widely expected, in what observers said was an attempt to regain momentum as his party slides in opinion polls.
After 14 years in opposition, the Labour party now has the chance to win back power with its leader Keir Starmer, a former human rights lawyer, at the helm.
ISIS-Linked Outfit Threatens Attack On India-Pak T20 World Cup Match In US
New York: ISIS-K has called for a "Lone Wolf" attack on the India-Pakistan World Cup Cricket match here next month, a top police official has warned while putting security on high alert. In a video that has gone global, the terror group is "calling for that 'Lone Wolf' to act out", said Patrick Ryder, the Police Commissioner of Nassau County where the match is scheduled for June 6. "Lone Wolves" are members or sympathisers of terrorist organisations who take cues from the organisations and operate independently by themselves making it more difficult to track them down.
On Wednesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said that she has "directed

Bruce Blakeman, the head of Nassau County bordering New York City, said at a news conference, "We make sure that we are on top of every situation that could potentially arise. Now to that end, we have taken many many precautions."
Additional police officers will be mobilised at the cricket stadium at Eisenhower Park, Ryder said at the news conference. "We will go to every fine detail when it comes to the security and safety of the residents here," he added.
of the weapons. Putin also said that while he believed Western military instructors were already in Ukraine operating undercover as mercenaries, any move by countries to send them officially would be another "escalation" and "another step towards a serious conflict in Europe, towards a global conflict". Ukraine's top commander announced Monday that talks were being held with France on sending military instructors to the country. Putin warned that "we will do what we think is necessary regardless of who is on the territory of Ukraine".
EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said after a meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels that European countries remained split on sending military instructors to Ukraine. Countries including Germany oppose taking a step they fear could potentially drag them closer to direct conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia.
North Korea Fires Missile Toward Sea of Japan
Seoul: North Korea on Thursday fired an unspecified ballistic missile towards the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, South Korea's military said, just days after Pyongyang's failed attempt to launch a spy satellite. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff did not provide further details in its statement.
Japan's coastguard and prime minister's office said the North had fired a suspected ballistic missile, adding they were gathering more information.

"Slip of Tongue": Congress on Aiyar's China Remarks
New Delhi: In response to the comments made by former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar on Chinese aggression in 1962, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that the former had said in a "slip of tongue" and he had also apologised for his statement.
"This is not a big issue. It was a slip of tongue and he has apologised. The Bharatiya Janata Party is continuously bringing up this issue after that. This shows their bankruptcy," Mr Khera said speaking to ANI on Wednesday.

PM Modi Concerned Over Naveen Patnaik's Health
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating health of chief minister Naveen Patnaik. He said that after the BJP formed government in Odisha on June 10, a special committee would be formed to probe what led to the sudden deterioration in the chief minister’s health. Addressing rallies in Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Kendrapara ahead of the fourth phase of polling on June 1, Modi said people are concerned about the chief minister’s health and have the right to know its status.
Delhi Hits 52.3 Degrees, HighestEver Recorded Temperature In India
New Delhi: India reported its highestever temperature at 52.3 degree Celsius today. A temperature monitoring station in Delhi's Mungeshpur reported this figure at 2.30 pm.
Explaining the reason behind the rising temperature, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional head Kuldeep Srivastava said the city's outskirts are the first areas to be hit by hot winds from Rajasthan.
"Parts of Delhi are particularly susceptible to the early arrival of these hot winds, worsening the already severe weather. Areas like Mungeshpur, Narela and Najafgarh are the first to experience the full force of these hot winds," he told news agency PTI. The temperature was more than nine degrees higher than expected, the second day of recordbreaking heat, and pushed up the mercury by more than degree from the 2002 record of 49.2 degree Celsius. It also rained in Delhi briefly on
A weather office in Delhi has recorded the highestever temperature the country has experienced at 52.3 degree Celsius today

Kejriwal to Return to Jail June 2, Supreme Court Rejects Extension
The Supreme Court registry on Wednesday rejected Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for a seven-day extension of his interim bail, leaving him no option but to go back to Tihar jail on June 2. According to sources, the apex court registry refused to accept Kejriwal’s application, saying the plea was not maintainable as he was given the liberty to move the trial court for regular bail. Kejriwal was granted interim bail by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on May 10 and was asked to surrender at Tihar jail on June 2.
According to sources, the apex court registry refused to accept Kejriwal’s application, saying the plea was not maintainable as he was given the liberty to move the trial court for regular bail
The bench had on May 17 reserved its verdict on Kejriwal’s plea challenging the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
On Tuesday, a vacation bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and K.V. Viswanathan had declined to direct an urgent listing of the bail extension plea. On senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s insistence, the bench placed the request for consideration by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud who is the master of the roster.
The registry, which acts on behalf of the CJI on the administrative side, declined to list the matter for hearing.
The IMD issued a red alert health notice for Delhi, with an estimated population of more than 30 million people. The alert warns there is a "very high likelihood of developing heat illness and heat stroke in all ages", with "extreme care needed for vulnerable people". India is no stranger to searing summer temperatures, but years of scientific research have found climate change is causing heatwaves to become longer, more frequent and more intense.
Delhi Lt Governor Suspends Health Minister's OSD Over Hospital Fire
Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Wednesday suspended Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) R N Das with immediate effect for his alleged involvement in irregular and illegal registration of private nursing homes, officials said. "The immediate cause for placing the officer under suspension is on account of reported misconduct with regard to unauthorized and illegal running of Jyoti Nursing Home, Shahadra beyond the valid registration period when he was also Medical Superintendent of Nursing Home Cell," an official said.
Modi: ‘No one knew Mahatma Gandhi before the Attenborough film.’ Rahul: ‘Really?’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a dig at Narendra Modi for the prime minister’s comment that the world got to know about Mahatma Gandhi after the 1982 film ‘Gandhi’.
“Only a student of Entire Political Science would have felt the need to see a film to know about Mahatma Gandhi,” Rahul wrote in Hindi on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
In an interview with the ABP channels aired on Tuesday, Modi, without naming the Congress, had accused the party of not projecting the Mahatma to global glory.
“Mahatma Gandhi was a great soul,” Modi said. “Wasn’t it our responsibility to get him that level of global recognition
during the last 75 years? Nobody knew about him. When the ‘Gandhi’ film was released, curiosity was generated across the world about who is this man. We didn’t do anything. If the world knew about Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi was no less than them and you have to accept that.” The film ‘Gandhi’, an India-UK co-production directed by
Richard Attenborough, had received 11 Oscar nominations, winning eight awards including best film in the same year that Steven Spielberg’s film ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ was in contention. ‘Gandhi’ was released in India on November 30, 1982, and in the following weeks in the UK and US.
“I don’t know in which world the outgoing Prime Minister lives where Mahatma Gandhi was unknown across the world before 1982,” Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on X. “If anyone has destroyed the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, it is the outgoing PM himself. It is his government which destroyed the Gandhian institutions in Varanasi, Delhi and Ahmedabad.”

Offensive Terms 'Abuse-Proof' Amid PM Modi's Opposition Attacks
In the final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, political parties are making their last claims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an interview to a news agency, where, amidst election campaigning, he responded to questions related to recent attacks, saying, "In the past, someone called me a 'merchant of death', someone called me a filthy insect. From the experiences I have faced in the last 24 years, I have now become abuse-proof."
UK to Introduce Photo ID Voting
The biggest battle of democracy in India, the General Election-2024, is currently underway. Once the rulers of India, the announcement of elections has also been made in Britain. In this election, Indianorigin Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's reputation is at stake. In Britain, for the first time on July 4th, 47 million voters will use photo IDs for voting in the upcoming general election.
PM Modi to Meditate 48 Hours at Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, having criss-crossed the country for Lok Sabha campaign, will arrive at the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu's Kanniyakumari district on May 30 for a spiritual sojourn. PM Modi, 73, will undertake a 48-hour meditation during his stay at the memorial, the same spot where Swami Vivekananda meditated. The picturesque Vivekananda Rock Memorial is situated close to the monolithic statue of Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar mid sea off the coast of Kanniyakumari, country's southernmost tip.
Heat nears 50°C, water crisis hits Delhi; Govt warns against wastage
WASHING CARS using a hose or letting water tanks overflow may soon lead to challan for excess use of water, Delhi Water Minister Atishi said Tuesday, even as the city continued to experience severe heat conditions with the maximum temperature rising up to 49.9 degrees Celsius at some places.
The minister also accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi’s share of water since May 1 and said that if the issue is not resolved soon, Delhi will approach the Supreme Court.
In the first clear indication of a serious water crisis in Delhi, which is largely dependent on neighbours Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to meet its soaring water demands, Atishi appealed to the people to not waste water. “Even today I saw that in many
residential areas of South Delhi, water is flowing in the driveways outside people’s houses due to washing of vehicles. My appeal to everyone is that you should not wash vehicles this way. If this public appeal does not work in the next one or two days, it is possible that we may have to impose a challan on excess usage of water. But right now we are issuing this appeal,” she said at a press conference.
TMC Issues Contempt Notice Over BJP, ECI Advertisement
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday sent contempt notices to the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) over an advertisement the BJP published on the social media platform X, saying that it violated a Calcutta High Court order.
On May 20, the Calcutta High Court restrained the BJP from publishing
derogatory advertisements about the TMC that violate the Model Code of Conduct in view of Lok Sabha elections 2024 until June 4 (counting date) and until further orders. On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to entertain the West Bengal BJP’s plea challenging the Calcutta High Court order that restrained it from publishing certain advertisements targeting the TMC. Advocate Soham Dutta, on behalf of the TMC, said in the notice that there was no stay order of the single-bench order. Despite this, the BJP published such an advertisement in its official X handle on Tuesday, he said. He then asked the BJP to retract the “intentional, deliberate, and contemptuous publication” from the BJP’s official X handle dedicated to West Bengal.

Shashi Tharoor, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi that if India was proud of Payal Kapadia, the police case against her should be withdrawn.

In the first clear indication of a serious water crisis in Delhi, which is largely dependent on neighbours Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to meet its soaring water demands, Atishi appealed to the people to not waste water.
The government has also decided to rationalise water supply in different parts of the national capital. “To address the problem of water scarcity, we have taken a slew of measures such as reducing water supply from twice a day to once a day in many areas… The areas which currently get water twice a day, will get once a day now… the water thus saved will be rationed and supplied to the water-deficient areas where supply lasts only 15 to 20 minutes a day,” Atishi said.

Tharoor quoted Modi’s tweet (on social media X, previously known as Twitter) congratulating Kapadia. The Congress MP urged the prime minister to withdraw the case against Kapadia.
The prime minister’s party, the BJP, is part of the coalition government in Maharashtra, where Assembly elections are due later this year.
Modi had tweeted: “India is proud of Payal Kapadia for her historic feat of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her work ‘All We Imagine as Light’. An alumnus of FTII, her remarkable talent continues to shine on the global stage, giving a glimpse of the rich creativity in India. This prestigious accolade not only honours her exceptional skills but also inspires a new generation of Indian filmmakers.”
New Delhi: The fire in a Delhi children's hospital last week - in which seven infants were killed - has prompted a swipe from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who declared himself "disappointed" that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj had "paid only lip service and given sound bites (to the press)... and shirked responsibility" since the gutwrenching incident.
Mr Saxena said he had been compelled "in public interest" to order an anti-corruption probe into possible lapses in registration and regulatory management of private nursing homes in the city.

Musk opposes US tariffs on Chinese electric cars
Tesla boss Elon Musk says he opposes US tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), just days after President Joe Biden quadrupled levies on EVs imported from China.
"Neither Tesla nor I asked for these tariffs", the multi-billionaire told a technology conference in Paris via video link.Mr Musk's comments are at odds with a warning he made in January that Chinese car makers would "demolish" competitors from other countries if there were no trade barriers.
Last week, the White House said new
measures, including a 100% tariff on EVs from China, were a response to unfair policies and intended to protect US jobs.
"In fact, I was surprised when they were announced. Things that inhibit freedom of exchange or distort the market are not good," Mr Musk said on Thursday.
“Tesla competes quite well in the market in China with no tariffs and no deferential support. I’m in favour of no tariffs," he added.
Mr Biden has maintained a number of tariffs on China that were introduced by his predecessor Donald Trump, while increasing trade pressure on Beijing.
Last week, Mr Biden vowed to not let China "unfairly control the market" for electric vehicles and other key goods, including batteries, computer chips and basic medical supplies.
China said it was opposed to the tariff hikes and would take retaliatory measures.
US sues in bid to break up Ticketmaster owner
US regulators have sued Live Nation, accusing the entertainment giant of using illegal tactics to maintain a monopoly over the live music industry.
The lawsuit from the Department of Justice said the firm's practices had kept out competitors, and led to higher ticket prices and worse service for customers.
Attorney General Merrick Garland called on the courts to break up the company.
Live Nation said in a statement on its website that claims that it wielded monopoly power were "absurd". It said the lawsuit "ignores everything
that is actually responsible for higher ticket prices" citing online ticket scalping, artist popularity and higher production costs.
Along with its subsidiary, Ticketmaster, Live Nation puts on concerts, sells tickets and owns venues, serving multiple roles that the Department of Justice said had turned it into a "gatekeeper" for the
Google to make Pixel phones and drones in India
Tech giant Google will soon begin making its Pixel smartphones in India, sources aware of the development have told the BBC. Google is set to manufacture the phones at an existing Foxconn facility in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The firm is also set to independently manufacture drones in the state.
India has emerged as a key destination for global firms looking to diversify supply lines outside China in the midst of geopolitical tensions with the West. Last year, Google had announced plans to make Pixel smartphones in India, beginning with the Pixel 8.
"India is a priority market for Pixel smartphones, and we’re committed to bringing the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to people across the country," it said in a blog post.
Musk's X Paid $50M in Ad Shares to 150K Creators: CEO
New Delhi: (IANS) Elon Muskrun X has paid more than $50 million in ad sharing to creators on its “video-first” platform, its CEO Linda Yaccarino has announced. When Twitter was acquired by Musk in October 2022, it was basically a 140-character messaging app.
industry. It owns more than 250 venues in the US and manages about 60% of concert promotions at major venues nationwide, according to the lawsuit, which was brought by the federal government's Department of Justice, as well as 30 states.
The company also controls approximately 80% of all major entertainment ticket sales via Ticketmaster, the lawsuit said. It said the company had maintained its position by using exclusive long-term deals, threatening venues that used rival ticketing firms, acquiring potential competitors, tying use of its venues to its promotion services, and deploying other practices.
“Now, less than 18 months later, it is a ‘video-first’ platform, and part of what's driving that success is inviting creators onto our platform,” said Yaccarino. At the time of its $44 billion acquisition, there were about 3,500 creators on the platform.
“Now, our video capabilities have become so sophisticated that we've probably got over 150,000 creators on the platform and paid out over $50 million in ad-sharing relationships with those creators,” she informed. The X platform is inviting more and more creators to give its 600 million monthly active users (MAUs) “the ultimate experience”.

T20 World Cup: Can Cricket Make Inroads In Baseball-Loving America?
Cricket globally is driven by India but the International Cricket Council sees huge potential in the American market and claims there are already 30 million fans that follow the game in the massive country.
HiIndia Newsdesk
Cricket, a popular pastime in the United States in the mid1800s, is making a significant return to North America through the T20 World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) sees huge potential in the American market, claiming there are already 30 million fans in the country.
The T20 World Cup is also viewed as a stepping stone to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where cricket will return after 128 years. Sixteen games will be played across New York, Dallas, and Lauderhill, with the majority of 55 matches, including knock-outs, scheduled in the Caribbean. South Africa and Sri Lanka will face off in New York on day three, where the first international cricket game was held between the USA and Canada in 1844. Cricket's popularity waned in America as baseball gained prominence during the Civil War. West Indian cricket legend Brian Lara highlights the challenge of selling cricket
India 'A' to face Australia 'A' ahead of BorderGavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Melbourne: (IANS) Cricket Australia on Tuesday announced the match days and venues of India A touring Australia this summer.
Two four-day matches between Australia A and India A and a threeday internal match comprising players from the Indian Test squad and India A will precede the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series as the top-ranked Test nations prepare for their hugely anticipated showdown.
The lead-up games mean Australia will host the biggest Indian summer ever with the hugely supported Indian men’s and women’s teams playing in Australia over 69 days from first ball to last and in eight different venues Australia-wide.
The Australia A v India A matches will be played at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay (Oct 31-Nov 3) and the MCG (Nov 7-10) respectively, with the Indian internal match to take place at the WACA Ground (Nov 15-17) with players pushing their case for selection ahead of the West Test.
The Australian women’s team will take on India in three ODI’s in December as the rivalry between the world champion Australians and the rapidly improving India intensifies.
to Americans, noting their preference for entertainment and faster-paced sports.
To grow cricket's appeal beyond the South Asian and Caribbean expat communities, the ICC is making significant efforts to engage the American audience.
This includes enlisting Usain Bolt as the World Cup ambassador and promoting the event at the Formula 1 race in Miami. For cricket to compete with baseball, NFL, and NBA, it must grow at the grassroots level.
The USA team, largely composed of players from South Asian and Caribbean heritage, will make its World Cup debut.
Venu Pisike, head of USA Cricket, believes the event will raise awareness, but the 2028 Olympics will be the key to attracting more fans. Nisarg Patel, a member of the USA squad, emphasizes the need for cricket to offer career opportunities to American youth.
The start of Major League Cricket last year was a significant step in this direction, but capturing the American imagination remains a challenge for the ICC.

"It’s going to be the last time I’m here in front of all of you. I’m not 100% sure, but if it was the last time, then I must say I enjoyed it. The feelings that I have today are difficult to describe in words. For me, it was special to feel the love of the people in the place that I love the most," said Nadal while addressing the spectators in the stadium.

Adani Coal Row: 21 Groups Write to Chief Justice
At least 21 international organisations have written to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and requested the Supreme Court to speedily resolve the pending case filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, investigating Adani Group firms for alleged overvaluation of Indonesian coal imports.
The letter comes after a report by the London-based Financial Times, citing documents from George Soros-backed Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), alluded to a "fraud" by the Adani Group by selling low-grade coal as high-value fuel in 2013.
Adani Group denies allegations; opposition cites Financial Times report, demands probe.
Contending that they stand firmly against the continued use of fossil fuels, the organisations said the Financial Times report provided fresh and detailed evidence of the passing off of "low-quality coal as far more expensive cleaner fuel" by the Adani Group in transactions with Tamil Nadu's Tangedco. While the Adani Group has denied all allegations, the news report has been cited by opposition leaders, including former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, to demand a joint parliamentary committee probe into the alleged wrongdoing. A spokesperson for the group said the quality of the coal was independently tested at the point of loading and discharge, as well as by customs authorities and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (Tangedco) officials.

Gujarat HC raps Rajkot civic body,
says it doesn't have faith in state machinery
The Gujarat High Court on Monday came down heavily on the Rajkot civic body over the game zone fire which left 27 persons dead, and said it does not have faith in the state machinery which gets into action only after innocent lives are lost.
The court pulled up the Rajkot Municipal Corporation and asked whether it had turned a blind eye to such a big structure coming up in its vicinity, after the RMC's lawyer submitted that the TRP game zone had not asked for requisite permissions.
A special bench of Justices Biren Vaishnav and Devan Desai was hearing a suo motu PIL on the game zone fire incident.
The court also observed that all the Rajkot municipal commissioners, from the time the TRP game zone was set up in 2021 till the time of this incident (on May 25) "should be held accountable for the tragedy that occurred," and directed them to furnish separate affidavits. The fire at the TRP game zone in the Nana-Mava locality of Rajkot on Saturday evening killed 27 persons, including children. The game zone was operated without the fire NOC (no objection certificate), as per officials.

The Supreme Court struck down the scheme in February, a month before the Lok Sabha elections were announced.
"I believe and, this is my guess, that it will increase the influence of black money in elections and politics. The donation figure by cheques reached 96% at the time of the bond," he said.

in all departments to clinch their third IPL championship with a comprehensive eight-wicket win in a relatively one-sided IPL 2024 title clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
KKR’s bowlers, led by stellar spells from Andre Russell (3-19), Mitchell Starc (2-14) & Harshit Rana (224), bowled out SRH for just 113, the lowest total in an IPL final. In reply, the batters, led by Venkatesh Iyer’s 52 not out off 26 balls, chased down the total in just 10.3 overs to make it the second time the side won an IPL title in Chennai. On a red-soil pitch, only winning the toss was the lone right thing for SRH as they never got any partnership or momentum to post the lowest total in an IPL final.

USCIS Revises Guidelines For Family-Based Immigration Visas
WASHINGTON, DC- Effective May 22, 2024, we are updating the USCIS Policy Manual regarding family-based immigrant visa petitions, including Form I-130 and certain Form I-360 petitions. This update addresses correcting approval notice errors, consular processing or adjustment of status requests, and routing procedures for approved petitions.
Petitioners must inform USCIS of the beneficiary’s current address and whether they prefer consular processing with the National Visa Center (NVC) or adjustment of status in the U.S. Failure to provide accurate information can delay the process, possibly requiring the filing of Form I-824 to transfer the petition to the NVC. Previously, unclear petitions were kept by USCIS. The update now clarifies that if the preference is unclear or needs correction, USCIS will use discretion based on the beneficiary’s location. Additionally, it explains how to contact USCIS to correct or update a pending or approved Form I-130, including changes in the beneficiary’s location or processing preference.

Federal Judge Halts Key Provision Of Gov. DeSantis’ Anti-Immigration Law
TALLAHASSEE, FL — A federal judge has temporarily blocked a key part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ antiimmigration law, which he championed during his unsuccessful presidential campaign. The law, passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature last year, made it a felony to transport undocumented migrants into Florida. Judge Roy Altman, appointed by former President Trump, ruled that this measure is likely preempted by federal immigration laws. Altman wrote, “By making it a felony to transport into Florida someone who ‘has not been inspected by the federal government since his or her unlawful entry,’ [the law] extends beyond the state’s authority.” Altman dismissed the state’s argument that a preliminary injunction could
hinder the identification of drug traffickers. He stated, “Any harm the state may suffer from an injunction is outweighed by the harm [the law] poses both to the plaintiffs and the United States, which has the ultimate interest in protecting federal supremacy in the realm of immigration.”
DeSantis, who has criticized President
The controversial law made it a felony to transport undocumented migrants into the state.
Biden’s immigration policies, gained national attention in 2022 by arranging flights for migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard. Just before launching his presidential campaign, DeSantis sent law enforcement and National Guard members to Texas. The 2023 law was seen as a continuation of these efforts, with DeSantis calling it the “most ambitious anti-illegal immigration law in the country.” The law was challenged by groups representing Florida farmworkers and those who have transported undocumented migrants,
including family members. The lawsuit was brought by the ACLU of Florida and other organizations.
“This is a much-needed win for Floridians,” said Spencer Amdur, senior staff attorney with the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project. “For too long, our state has imposed a barrage of anti-immigrant laws and policies that harm citizens and non-citizens alike.” DeSantis briefly mentioned the decision on Sean Hannity’s radio program, saying, “the court just enjoined that, believe it or not.” Kylie Mason, spokesperson for Attorney General Ashley Moody, stated that Florida would challenge the preliminary injunction. The Miami Herald reported that an attorney for Raquel Lopez Aguilar, a Mexican national charged under the law, said he would seek his client’s release following the court decision.

Walking is one of the simplest and most effective forms of exercise. It requires no special skills or equipment, making it accessible to almost everyone. However, to fully enjoy the benefits and prevent potential injuries, investing in a good pair of walking shoes is essential.
Support and Comfort
A quality pair of walking shoes provides the necessary support and comfort for your feet. Walking involves repetitive motions that can put stress on your feet, ankles, and legs. Well-designed shoes offer cushioning to absorb impact, reducing strain on your joints and muscles. This is particularly important for those with conditions like arthritis or plantar fasciitis, where proper support can alleviate pain and discomfort.
Injury Prevention
Wearing the right shoes can prevent common walking injuries such as blisters, calluses, and plantar fasciitis. Shoes with good arch support, a stable heel, and a flexible sole can help maintain proper foot alignment and distribute pressure evenly. This reduces the risk of overuse injuries and helps keep you walking comfortably for longer periods.
Enhanced Performance
Good walking shoes can enhance your overall performance. They provide better traction and stability, allowing you to walk
Is weight loss easier with evening workouts? Experts Decode
In our busy lives, finding a fixed time for exercise can be challenging. A new Australian study offers flexibility, suggesting that evening workouts yield better outcomes for obesity management. Published in Diabetes Care, the study found that moderate to vigorous physical activity between 6 PM and midnight decreased co-morbidities in obese individuals.
MORNING VS EVENING EXERCISE
The debate over the best time to work out continues. Dr. KP Singh, Director of Endocrinology at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, explains that morning exercise can jumpstart metabolism, aiding in calorie burning throughout the day. Exercising in a fasted state may also enhance fat oxidation and insulin sensitivity, making morning workouts ideal for weight loss. However, for late risers or shift workers, evening exercise might be more effective. Research indicates that muscle strength and power peak in the late afternoon or early evening, potentially improving exercise performance and gains in strength and muscle mass. According to the American Council on Exercise, late afternoon workouts align with the body’s circadian rhythms, leading to optimal performance.
Study:
WHO SHOULD EXERCISE WHEN
For diabetics, night exercise may lower morning glucose levels, providing metabolic benefits. Dr. Gurpreet Singh Babra of Max Super Speciality Hospital suggests that individuals with Type 2 diabetes or obesity might benefit from exercising between 6 PM and midnight. For heart patients, the best time is between 8 AM and 11 AM to lower blood pressure or build muscle. However, it's important to avoid exercise between midnight and 6 AM to reduce the risk of heart disease.
ULTIMATE GOAL OF EXERCISE
Prof. Rajesh Vijayvergiya of the Department of Cardiology at PGI Chandigarh emphasizes that the key to exercise is consistency and regularity. The best time to work out depends on personal preference, availability, and overall goals. Whether it's morning, lunchtime, or evening, the important thing is to meet the weekly quota of 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity. Ultimately, the best time to exercise is when it fits your schedule and natural body rhythm, ensuring you can maintain regular physical activity.
confidently on various surfaces. Whether you're walking on pavement, trails, or a treadmill, the right shoes can improve your efficiency and help you maintain a steady pace.
Long-Term Health Benefits
Investing in quality walking shoes is an investment in your long-term health. Regular walking with proper footwear can improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, and boost mental well-being. By ensuring your feet are well-supported, you can enjoy these benefits without the setbacks of foot pain or injury.
The
Necessity of a Good Pair of Walking Shoes
Choosing the Right Shoes
When selecting walking shoes, look for ones that fit well and accommodate your foot shape. Consider factors like arch support, cushioning, and the type of walking you'll be doing. It's often helpful to visit a specialty store where experts can analyze your gait and recommend suitable options. In conclusion, a good pair of walking shoes is more than just a comfort luxury—it's a necessity for anyone who wants to walk regularly and reap the full benefits of this excellent exercise. Prioritizing your foot health with the right footwear ensures that your walking routine is both enjoyable and sustainable.

Exploring Non-Citizen Voting In U.S. Federal Elections: Understanding The Facts
WASHINGTON, DC- An immigrant exercises their voting rights in the U.S. presidential election. The debate over non-citizen voting in U.S. federal elections has sparked intense discussions in American political circles. While some argue it’s a pressing issue demanding immediate action, a deeper analysis unveils a multifaceted reality. Here are some crucial points about noncitizen voting in the U.S.:
• Legal Framework: The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 explicitly bars non-citizens from participating in federal elections, imposing severe penalties for violations.
• Local Variances: While a few localities permit non-citizen participation in local elections, this practice isn’t extended to federal elections.
• Limited Evidence: Instances of noncitizen voting in federal elections remain minimal, as evidenced by reviews conducted by the Brennan Center for Justice in 2016 and later affirmed by the CATO Institute in 2020. Understanding the SAVE Act 2024: Recent years have witnessed heightened attention to non-citizen voting, with former President Donald Trump
Harleen Marwah
Joins White House Environmental Council
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, DC – On May 23, the White House announced that President Joe Biden will appoint 12 new members to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council, created to address the climate crisis. Among the appointees is Indian American Harleen Marwah, a Pediatric Resident Physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Marwah, the Founding Chair of Medical Students for a Sustainable Future, works to prevent and address health harms from climate change. Inspired by climate change to pursue medicine, Marwah received Health Care Without Harm’s 2020 Emerging Physician Leader Award for her commitment to sustainable healthcare. According to a press release, she brings experience in youth engagement and healthcare-climate intersections to the Council. Marwah holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Southern California and a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Council advises the White House Environmental Justice Interagency Council and the White House Council on Environmental Quality on addressing environmental injustices.
and other Republican figures raising concerns about its alleged prevalence. This narrative has spurred legislative efforts like the SAVE Act 2024, aimed at curbing non-citizen voting despite scant empirical evidence supporting its widespread occurrence.
Acknowledging the challenge of substantiating claims of voter fraud, House Speaker Mike Johnson admitted the lack of concrete evidence during a recent press conference, shedding light on the difficulty of justifying measures like the SAVE Act 2024.
Existing Safeguards:
States already implement measures to prevent non-citizen voting, including citizenship status inquiries on voter registration forms and cross-referencing with government records. Providing false information carries severe
penalties, including deportation for non-citizens.
Challenges and Unintended Consequences:
The SAVE Act 2024 proposes stringent identification requirements, but nearly half of Americans lack Real ID-compliant documents. Delays in the Real ID program, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, pose hurdles to compliance, necessitating careful consideration of implementation timelines.
Where Non-Citizens Can Vote:
Limited instances of non-citizen voting occur in select cities and towns for local elections, with strict segregation from statewide and national contests.
The Bottom Line:
While safeguarding electoral integrity is paramount, policy decisions should be grounded in objective data and aim to foster an inclusive democracy. Policymakers must weigh the potential impact of new voter identification requirements on eligible citizens, ensuring accessibility and fairness in the electoral process. Upholding election integrity while protecting voting rights underscores the United States’ commitment to democratic principles.

CBP Launches Global Entry App at St. Louis Airport
ST. LOUIS, MO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Port of St. Louis introduced the Global Entry (GE) Mobile App at St. Louis International Airport. Global Entry is a CBP program designed to expedite clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. The GE Mobile App is a user-friendly resource that allows GE members to submit their information to CBP upon arrival. After submission, travelers’ membership and admission status are verified, and they receive a secure approval code to present to a CBP Officer. This process significantly enhances the efficiency of the GE program and reduces touchpoints for travelers.
“The GE Mobile App allows members to be processed and vetted upon arrival on their mobile device and share their admission status with an officer, enhancing efficiency and reducing touchpoints,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations-Chicago.In addition to these modernizations, CBP St. Louis offers Enrollment on Arrival for conditionally approved GE members to complete membership interviews. The use of biometric comparison technology for arrivals and departures further streamlines existing travel requirements, creating a more seamless, secure, and safer travel experience.

India Caucus Hosts Membership Drive Event
NEW YORK, NY- Nearly 60 prominent members of the Indian community from New York and New Jersey, including business leaders and heads of organizations, gathered to kick off an initiative to increase the membership of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
Hosted by Ratna & Varinder Bhalla, the event was inspired by Ambassador Binaya Pradhan, who noted the declining membership of the Caucus and asked Mr. Bhalla, Chairman of the Indian American Voters Forum, to launch a membership drive. Congressman Tom Suozzi endorsed the initiative.
The India Caucus, a bipartisan coalition advocating the interests of the Indian American community and strengthening US-India relations, has seen its membership fluctuate since its founding in 1993. Currently, it has 109 members, down from a peak of 200. The Indian American Voters Forum, founded by Varinder Bhalla in 2008, aims to enhance political participation within the Indian community. Notable past efforts include a nationwide voter registration drive and the “Riti Bhalla Special” TV show, which attracted congressional leaders by celebrating Indian Independence Day.
Inspired by Ambassador Pradhan, a committee was formed to increase Caucus membership, with Bhalla as Chairman and including prominent community members. The initiative’s first success came with Congressman Suozzi’s commitment to join the Caucus and recruit others.
Ambassador Pradhan highlighted the benefits of the India Caucus, including increased bilateral trade and student exchanges. The event featured several distinguished guests and concluded with Congressman Suozzi entertaining attendees with a Frank Sinatra song.
