Biden blames jet lag and travel for poor debate performance

President Joe Biden has blamed his poor debate performance last week on jet lag, telling reporters that he "wasn't very smart" for "travelling around the world a couple of times" before the debate.

"I didn’t listen to my staff... and then I nearly fell asleep on stage,” he said. Mr Biden, 81, last returned from travel on 15 June, nearly two weeks ahead of the 27 June debate.

The president's remarks come amid intra-party panic ahead of November's election over his mental fitness, and after a congressman from Texas became

Biden says court ruling on Trump undermines rule of law

Joe Biden has described as a "dangerous precedent" a Supreme Court ruling giving former President Donald Trump partial immunity from criminal prosecution. The current US president said the judgement undermined the "rule of law" and was "a terrible disservice" to Americans.

Earlier, Trump hailed the court's decision as a "big win" for democracy.

The justices found on Monday that a president had immunity for "official acts" but was not immune for "unofficial acts", and referred the matter back to a trial judge. The judgement will further delay the criminal case against Trump for allegedly trying to subvert the 2020 election result that gave victory to Mr Biden.

the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call for him to step aside following the debate. "I am hopeful that he will

make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw," Rep Lloyd Doggett said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mr Biden appeared to struggle through some responses during a debate with former President Donald Trump last Thursday.

"It’s not an excuse but an explanation,” he said at a private fundraiser in Virginia on Tuesday evening, referring to his travel.

He also apologised for his performance and said it was "critical" that he win reelection, according to ABC News.

Mr Biden made two separate trips to Europe within two weeks last month.

Joe Biden told ally that he is weighing whether to continue in the race

President Joe Biden has told a key ally that he knows he may not be able to salvage his candidacy if he cannot convince the public in the coming days that he is up for the job after a disastrous debate performance last week.

The president, who the ally emphasized is still deeply in the fight for reelection, understands that his next few appearances heading into the holiday weekend — including an interview scheduled for Friday with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News and campaign stops in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — must go well.

“He knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place” by the end of the weekend, said the

ally, referring to Biden’s halting and unfocused performance in the debate.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive situation.

After the article published, Andrew Bates, a White House spokesperson, said it was “absolutely false.”

The conversation is the first indication to become public that the president is seriously considering whether he can recover after a devastating performance on the debate stage in Atlanta on June 27. Concerns are mounting about his viability as a candidate and whether he could serve as president for another four years.

A top adviser to Biden, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the situation, said the president was “well aware of the political challenge he faces.”

US Economy Faces Recession Risk In Coming Years, Expert Warns

The Great Recession of 2008-2009 left its scars unhealed, and the Covid-19 economic downturn dealt the US one more blow. Concerns regarding the instability of the financial markets are now resurfacing. BCA Research, a Canadian investment research organisation, predicts volatility in the US stock market going forward.

According to Fox Business, in a note to clients last week, BCA Research chief global strategist Peter Berezin warned that, contrary to popular belief, the economy will fall into a recession either this year or in early 2025. Should that happen, the S&P 500 could tumble to 3,750, which marks a 30% drop from current levels.

Berezin's prediction hinges on the belief that the labour market will slow notably in the coming months, which will weigh heavily on consumer spending, a major driver of economic growth. The relationship between inflation and unemployment is measured by something called the "Phillips curve."

"The reason the U.S. avoided a recession in

US Student, 20, Kills Mother Over Room Cleaning, Job Request

A 20-year-old Indiana man has been charged with strangling his mother to death after she asked him to clean his room and find a full-time job. Connor Kobold, a student at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, called 911 five times on February 5, reporting a dead person in his home in Valparaiso, as per court documents, according to Fox News.

When police arrived, Kobold surrendered himself, asking to be handcuffed and placed in the squad car. He allegedly confessed to the crime, stating, "There is a dead person inside of the house on the corner" and "I killed somebody in that house," reported WGNTV.

US pays Moderna

$176m to develop bird-flu jab

The US government has given Moderna $176m (£139m) to develop a messenger-ribonucleicacid-based (mRNA) pandemic influenza vaccine that would work against bird flu. It says it wants to be "better prepared" for publichealth crises, having learned lessons from Covid.

Bird flu is not a big threat to people, despite outbreaks in poultry and cattle. But experts want a working vaccine that could be quickly rolled out, in case the virus mutates and becomes a problem.

'Almost

2022 and 2023 was because the economy was operating along the steep side of the Phillips curve," he wrote. "When the labour supply curve is nearly vertical, weaker labour demand will mainly lead to lower wage growth and falling job openings. In other words, an immaculate disinflation."

Berezin also predicts broad economic challenges, including notable slowdowns in growth in China and Europe. This could contribute to the weakening of the global economy and increase pressure on international stock markets.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average broke through 40,000 for the first time in midMay, setting a new record high. It has now dropped from those peaks, though.

"Stop Labour's Supermajority": Rishi Sunak's Final Appeal Ahead Of UK Polls

London: Stop Labour's "supermajority" is the final message British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is trying to drive home on Wednesday, the final day of campaigning ahead of polling day on Thursday, as most of the incumbent Conservatives seem to have all but conceded defeat in the general election. "This is what unites us. We need to stop the Labour supermajority that will put up your taxes. The only way to do that is to vote Conservative tomorrow," said 44-year-old Rishi Sunak on social media, as he focused on drumming up support in the last few hours of the campaign trail.

With his party trailing far behind the Keir Starmer-led Labour Party, the British Indian leader and his team's strategy seems to be to canvas their traditional voters to ensure a strong

Greece starts sixday working week for some industries

Greece has introduced a six-day working week for certain industries in a bid to boost economic growth.

New legislation, which came into effect at the start of July, allows employees to work up to 48 hours in a week as opposed to 40.

It only applies to businesses which operate on a 24-hour basis and is optional for workers, who get paid an extra 40% for the overtime they do.

However, the move by the Greek government is at odds with workplace culture elsewhere in Europe and the US, where four-day working patterns are becoming more common.

Firms adopting these policies typically argue that working fewer hours actually boosts productivity and staff wellbeing.

enough turnout in the polls on Thursday and narrow the gap of their widely expected defeat after Tory victories in the last three elections.

"I totally accept where the polls are at the moment means that tomorrow is likely to see the largest Labour landslide

majority - the largest majority that this country has ever seen. Much bigger than 1997," Rishi Sunak's Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride told the BBC. "I have accepted that where the polls are at the moment... that we are therefore tomorrow highly likely to be in a situation where [Labour has] the largest majority that any party has ever achieved," he said, effectively conceding his party's defeat. It is being seen as a fear tactic to jolt Tory voters into action, with the hope of keeping the Labour majority under that won by former prime minister Tony Blair led Labour Party in 1997 of 179 seats. "Thursday's vote is now all about forming a strong enough Opposition. One needs to read the writing on the wall: it's over, and we need to prepare for the reality and frustration of the Opposition," Suella Braverman, sacked as home secretary by Rishi Sunak, told 'The Telegraph'.

Alongside Russia and China, four Central Asian states, India, Iran and Pakistan are members of the SOC.

Some influential Democrats have floated alternatives to Biden besides Harris, including popular cabinet members and Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom from California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. But trying to sidestep Harris is wishful thinking and would be nearly impossible, these sources, who did not wish to be named, said.

If named as the party nominee, Harris, 59, would take over money raised by the Biden campaign and inherit campaign infrastructure, the sources said. Trump sentencing in hush-money case delayed until September

A New York judge has delayed Donald Trump’s sentencing until September as his lawyers seek to challenge his conviction after a Supreme Court ruling. Trump was initially scheduled to be sentenced on 11 July.

His legal team asked for his conviction in a hush-money case to be overturned after the nation’s highest court ruled Monday that former presidents had partial immunity for “official” acts during their presidency.

Justice Juan Merchan said on Tuesday that he would issue a decision on the motions by 6 September.

If sentencing is necessary, the judge wrote, it will take place on 18 September.

In May, a New York jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, making him the first former president ever convicted of a felony. Prosecutors said Trump had reimbursed his fixer, Michael Cohen, for hush money paid to an adult film star, who claimed she had an affair with

Trump. The money, paid on the eve of the 2016 election, was covered up by falsely labeling it as a legal expenses. It is the first of Trump's four criminal cases to go to trial.

In a post on Truth Social shortly after Justice Merchan's ruling, Trump wrote that the delay constituted "TOTAL EXONERATION!" and that it "ends"

"witch hunts against me." However, the decision only pauses the proceedings until the judge makes his determination.

On Monday, the Supreme Court released a bombshell ruling that found Trump - and other former presidents - had immunity from prosecution for "official acts".

Elon Musk's electric car-maker delivered nearly 444,000 vehicles in the three months ended 30 June, up more than 14% from the prior quarter. That was far more than most analysts had expectedthough still down nearly 5% from the same period in 2023. Tesla has been navigating a slowdown in demand, as high borrowing costs weigh on buyers and competition increases. It has been slashing prices to try to win back buyers and this spring announced plans to sack more than 10% of its workforce amid the downturn.

At the start of the year, Tesla blamed its poor performance in part on supply shortages due to shipping disruption in the Red Sea and an arson attack at its factory in Germany. But analysts say Tesla needs to freshen its lineup, if it hopes to stop rivals from making inroads. The company started selling its cyber-truck last year but that remains a tiny part of its business.

Hardik Pandya Criticizes Unfair Treatment in Last 6 Months

Emotional India's star all-rounder

Hardik Pandya, who was in tears after Men in Blue sealed T20 World Cup glory, opened up on the challenging six months leading up to the marquee event and said that he had kept quiet not speaking a word.

Speaking to the broadcaster after the game, Pandya reflected on the previous six months and revealed that he had not lost his temper once when things were going wrong, which was precisely why the victory felt all the more meaningful. Mumbai Indians (MI) supporters and social media trolls had been very harsh to Pandya during the Indian Premier League 2024.

MI brought back Pandya after a twoyear stint with Gujarat Titans (GT), which involved winning the title in their debut season in 2022, but replacing Rohit Sharma as a captain led to massive social media backlash for the all-rounder and franchise. Pandya was booed in stadiums all over India during the matches.

Lot of time for me to sleep, for now I want to live every second of this win: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma held the T20 World Cup trophy like a new-born baby as he walked towards the beach here for the triumphant captain's post-tournament photo shoot, a serene smile refusing to leave his face and the feeling of being a world champion yet to fully sink in. The coastal city of Bridgetown is battling a hurricane. The same could also be said about the Indian captain, only that his is a battle to control a gamut of emotions

threatening to overwhelm him like a huge sea wave every now and then. "Last night we had a good time, we had a blast with the teammates till the early morning," he couldn't stop grinning before becoming a touch emotional. I would say I didn't sleep properly but that's absolutely fine by me. There is a lot of time for me to go back and sleep. "I want to live this moment, each minute, each second that is passing by and will try to make the most of it," he said describing how it felt to lead an Indian team to its first ICC title in 11 years.

BCCI Urged to Fund Ex-Cricketer's Treatment

As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an enormous Rs. 125 crore reward for the victorious Indian team after their T20 World Cup 2024 win, calls have been made to fund the treatment of ailing former Indian cricketer and head coach Anshuman Gaekwad. Gaekwad, who coached India across two spells during the late 1990s, is currently battling blood cancer at the King's College Hospital in London, at the age of 71. Former BCCI chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil, who played alongside Gaekwad, has been loudest in urging the BCCI to step in.

"Tough Pill To Swallow": David Miller

A dejected David Miller said the T20 World Cup final loss to India was a tough blow, but the swashbuckling batter expressed confidence that despite enduring pain the resilient South African team would continue pushing boundaries. Shedding the unwanted tag of perennial "chokers", the Proteas had marched into their maiden T20 World Cup final unbeaten. However, they faltered in the summit clash, losing to India by seven runs. "Really tough pill to swalllow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don't explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit," Miller posted an Instagram story late on Monday. Before the final, the Proteas enjoyed a sensational run, ekeing out wins in the pressure situations to become favourites for the title. "This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar," he wrote.

NASA Plans Extended Space Stay for Sunita Williams

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft faces uncertainty after its crewed test flight, originally projected to last days, with no confirmed return date announced. NASA's Commercial Crew Program manager, Steve Stich, revealed considerations to extend the mission from 45 to 90 days amid ongoing issues like helium leaks and thruster outages encountered en route to the International Space Station (ISS). Stich emphasized the need to conduct ground tests in New Mexico to understand

thruster malfunctions better. The extended mission aims to gather crucial data while integrated crew members, including Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, continue routine tasks aboard the ISS.

Boeing and NASA are evaluating whether Starliner's propulsion system can support the extended mission, with ongoing efforts to troubleshoot technical challenges. In comparison to SpaceX's Crew Dragon, which has achieved routine missions after its 2020 test flight, Boeing's Starliner program faces notable delays and setbacks.

NASA plans to detach and dispose of a US cargo craft from the ISS on July 12, marking the end of its five-and-a-half-month mission. The agency also targets the end of July for the next spacewalk following issues during a previous excursion. Overall, the future of Starliner hinges on resolving technical issues and securing approval for an extended mission duration, highlighting ongoing challenges in the commercial crew transportation sector.

Kamala Harris Has A Better Chance Of Retaining White House Than Biden: Poll

Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris, who is of Indian and African heritage, has a better chance of retaining the White House in the November presidential polls than her boss

President Joe Biden has, according to a latest CNN poll.

The approval rating of Biden, 81, has plummeted after his dismal debate performance in Atlanta last week against his predecessor Donald Trump. Since the debate, there has been increasing voices in the ruling Democratic party for Biden to step down and let someone else run the race for the crucial November 5 presidential elections.

According to the CNN poll conducted by SRS, Trump is ahead of Biden by six points.

The poll also finds Harris within striking distance of Trump in a hypothetical matchup: 47 per cent of registered voters support Trump, 45 per cent Harris, a result within the margin of error that

suggests there is no clear leader under such a scenario.

"Harris' slightly stronger showing against Trump rests at least in part on broader support from women (50% of female voters back Harris over Trump vs. 44% for Biden against Trump) and independents (43% Harris vs. 34% Biden)," the polls said.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refrained to give a direct

comment on the polls.

"I'm constrained to speaking directly to your poll and I get it and I hear the question. I got to be mindful, that is something for the campaign as you started saying, what the campaign has laid out their argument of the case. That is something for them to take up and that is something for them to answer," she told reporters when asked about it. "What I can speak to is the president's record. What I can speak to, what he's been able to accomplish and the things that he's been able to do and get done is actually in line with majority of Americans. And I think that's important too, to note. And again, I will say with age comes wisdom and experience and that's certainly something that the president brings," she said.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama leads Trump by a whopping 11 points in an Ipsos poll—50 per cent to 39 per cent — though her office told NBC News in March she would not be running for president this year.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has invited himself to the home of his Telangana counterpart Revanth Reddy. Trump Has Some Immunity From Prosecution As Ex President: US Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court ruled Monday that Donald Trump enjoys some immunity from prosecution as a former president, a ruling that will likely delay his trial for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election.

The 6-3 decision split along ideological lines comes four months ahead of the election in which Trump is the Republican candidate to take on Democrat Joe Biden.

Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, in his majority opinion, said a president enjoys "absolute immunity" from criminal prosecution for official acts taken while in office.

"There is no immunity for unofficial acts," Roberts said, sending the case back to a lower court to determine which of the charges facing the former president

The three liberal justices dissented, with Justice Sonia Sotomayor saying "never in the history of our Republic has a President had reason to believe that he would be immune from criminal prosecution if he used the trappings of his office to violate the criminal law."

"With fear for our democracy, I dissent," she said.

Trump's original trial date in the election case had been for March 4, well before his November rematch with President Joe Biden.

But the Supreme Court -- dominated by conservatives, including the three appointed by Trump during his term in office -- agreed in February to hear his argument for presidential immunity, putting the case on hold while they considered the matter in April.

Indian American Charged in Senior Scam Using Fake Arrest Warrants

CHICAGO, IL- A Chicago man, Tejaskumar Patel, 21, is in custody for allegedly posing as law enforcement and scamming older victims into paying him gold bars to eliminate fake arrest warrants. Patel faces multiple grand theft charges for stealing over $100,000. In May, Patel conned an elderly man in Martin County out of $150,000 in gold bars. Sheriff William Snyder explained that Patel sent the victim fake identifications. After the man handed over the gold bars, he realized it was a scam. Sheriff Snyder emphasized that legitimate law enforcement agencies never demand money over the phone or in person.

The victim reported the scam, and investigators arranged a second meeting where Patel attempted to collect more gold bars. This time, he received a bag filled with fishing weights instead of gold. Body camera footage captured Patel’s arrest,

24-Year-Old Posed As Senior Citizen In 'Donkey Route' Attempt To Reach US

New Delhi: A 24-year-old man from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, made headlines after attempting to board a flight to the United States disguised as a 67-year-old man. Identified as Guru Sewak Singh, he, along with his wife, was intercepted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 on June 18. Singh presented forged documents portraying him as Rashwinder Singh Sahota, born on February 2, 1957, from Jalandhar, Punjab, bound for Canada. His passport, bearing the number 438851, listed him as 67 years old. However, discrepancies in his appearance,

including dyed hair, beard, and glasses to appear older, raised suspicions. Despite his efforts, CISF officials discovered a digital copy of another passport on his phone, revealing his true identity as Guru Sewak Singh, born June 10, 2000, with passport number V4770942. Singh confessed to the forgery, disclosing a planned escape to the United States facilitated by a travel agent named Jaggi, whom he had paid Rs. 30 lakh as an advance from a total of Rs. 60 lakh. Jaggi arranged the forged passport and visas, part of a scheme to use the "Donkey Route" via Canada for illegal immigration to the US. Upon discovery, CISF handed Singh and his wife to Delhi Police, who arrested them for possessing forged passports and attempting illegal immigration. An FIR has been filed, and investigations are underway to uncover the extent of Jaggi's network and identify others involved in similar schemes.

"Trump Geniune Threat": Biden

"I don't walk as easy as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to," Biden admitted to supporters in unusually confessional remarks.

Washington: A fired-up Joe Biden came out swinging Friday as he tried to make up for a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, insisting he was the right man to win November's US presidential election. Biden's appearance at a campaign rally in the battleground state of North Carolina came amid rumblings in his alarmed Democratic Party about replacing the 81-yearold as their nominee -- and shortly before the nation's most influential newspaper urged him to step aside.

"I don't walk as easy as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to," Biden admitted to supporters in unusually confessional remarks.

"But I know how to tell the truth. I know how to do this job," he said to huge cheers, vowing "when you get knocked down, you get back up."

"Did you see Trump last night? My guess is he set -- and I mean this sincerely -- a new record for the most lies told in a single debate," Biden said.

"Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. He's a threat to our freedom. He's a threat to our democracy. He's literally a threat for everything America stands for."

BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Insulting Hindus; He Fires Back at RSS

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, strongly rebuked Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Parliament, accusing him of insulting Hindus. Gandhi, armed with the Constitution and images of religious figures, criticized the BJP and RSS, claiming they don't represent all Hindus. PM Modi twice rebutted Gandhi’s remarks, highlighting the seriousness of calling Hindus violent and affirming his respect for the Leader of the Opposition, despite opposition jeers. Gandhi accused the BJP and RSS of

inciting violence against minorities. He contrasted the BJP’s alleged promotion of fear and hatred with the non-violence espoused by Hinduism and other religions. Displaying images of religious figures, he emphasized a common symbol of peace, the 'abhaya mudra,'

"Justice Replaces Punishment In New Criminal Laws": Amit Shah

A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by police in New York's Utica on June 28 after he wielded a replica gun, as per a report in People Magazine. The cops went up to Nyah Mway and another boy, also aged 13, who "were in the immediate vicinity of the previous robbery at nearly the same time of day," based on the traits of suspects in a June 27 crime, according to the release from the Utica Police Department. The two teenagers were the subject of an attempted citizen stop by the authorities. However, the teen escaped and produced

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

calls himself ‘the ugliest actor’ in Bollywood

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most versatile Indian actors of his generation, however, he recently confessed that people have found him unattractive and he’s now started to believe it, too. He also opened up about being facing of colourism and unfair treatment in Bollywood, which has led him to believe that he’s the ‘ugliest actor’ in Bollywood.

“Pata nahi shakalo se humari nafrat kyun hai kuch logon ko. Kyunki shakal hi aisi hai – itne badsurat hai humlog. Humein bhi lagta hai jab apne aap ko aaine mein dekhte hai. Hum bhi bolte hai apne aap ko ‘kyun aa gaye film industry mein itne gande shakal leke?’ (I don’t know why some people hate the way I look. Maybe it’s because I’m just that ugly. Even I feel it when I look at myself in the mirror. I question why I came into the film industry with such bad looks),” Nawazuddin told.

Maharaja earns Rs 100 crore

Vijay Sethupathi‘s latest release Maharaja has breathed new life into Tamil cinema, ending a prolonged dry spell at the box office. The film has grossed Rs 100 crore worldwide by its third weekend, making it the biggest Tamil grosser of the year, dethroning Sundar C’s Aranmanai 4. Despite the release of Prabhas’ highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD on June 27, Maharaja has managed to hold its ground.

“I am the ugliest actor – physically – in the film industry. Main toh yeh maanta hoon. Kyun ki main shuru se yeh sab sunte aa raha hoon aur abhi maanne bhi laga hoon (I have been hearing it for so long that I’ve started to believe it. I have no complaints about the film industry,” he added. However, Nawazuddin also said that while there is discrimination in the industry, he has continued to get good work. He said, “Film industry say mujhe koi shikhayat nahin hai. I want to thank all the directors that have given me variety of characters. Agar aapke andar thora saa bhi talent hai toh industry bahut kuch deti hai. Society mein discrimination hai, industry mein nahi (If you have even a bit of talent, the industry offers you a lot. There’s discrimination in society, but not in the industry).”

Bigg Boss OTT 3: Payal Malik gets evicted from Anil Kapoor-hosted show

Divya Dutta

As week one of Bigg Boss OTT 3 came to an end, contestants received unfiltered feedback from host Anil Kapoor. Especially, Lovekesh Kataria and Vishal Pandey were in for some schooling. However, the Weekend Ka Vaar ended on a sad note for the trio of Armaan Malik and his two wives Payal and Kritika. Payal Malik was evicted from the show on Sunday after not receiving enough votes from the audience.

feared being typecast as the ‘heroine’s best friend’ after Veer Zaara

Over the last 30 years since her onscreen debut, actor Divya Dutta has taken on a diverse array of roles, leaving a lasting impression on viewers. Though she had appeared in many films by then, it was Yash Chopra’s 2004 romantic drama Veer Zaara — starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles — that first brought her widespread recognition. Her portrayal of Shabina Ibrahim, the best friend of the movie’s heroine Zaara (played by Preity Zinta), garnered her significant acclaim. However, Dutta recently revealed that she initially feared the role might typecast her as the perennial “heroine’s best friend”.

“I was sitting at the movie’s premiere holding my mother’s hand. It’s a Yash Chopra film, so the whole world would be watching it. I enjoyed it

a lot. But, at the same time, I was worried I would be stereotyped as the best friend of all heroines in the industry. There is a herd mentality in our industry. Everyone runs after the one who looks good and leaves the rest behind,” she said during a chat with Siddharth Kannan. Divya Dutta also recalled the reactions to her performance during a screening of Veer Zaara. Dutta said, “At the time of the movie’s interval, I ran away holding my mother’s hand. Mumma said she was very proud of me for the performance. I said, ‘Thank you, Mumma, even I am loving being a part of this film.’ When we stepped out, I hid a little behind her. I didn’t want to hear any friend calling me because my dream was to become a ‘Yash Chopra heroine’. While I was hiding there, Yash uncle saw me and called me over. As I went up to him, I was crowded and surrounded by people.”

This was the second eviction in the first week of Bigg Boss OTT Season 3. Earlier in the week, boxer Neeraj Goyat was eliminated from the show. As for Payal Malik, her journey began on quite a controversial note. At the show’s grand premiere, when Payal narrated the moment her husband Armaan Malik cheated on her with her best friend Kritika (who is his second wife), she received lots of backlash.

Ayushmann Khurrana

was last seen in Dream Girl 2, alongside Ananya Panday

Ayushmann Khurrana never shies away from talking about his professional struggles. Recently, the actor spoke about how after making a strong debut with Vicky Donor, his next three films were box office failures. In a chat with Forbes India, he said, “After my first film, I saw 3 back-to-back unsuccessful films and it's just the kind of films that I was getting. After Vicky Donor, I had a certain benchmark but I wasn't getting films of that ilk. That journey started again with Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Then there were 8 backto-back super hit films after that. So, it's not about the actor. It's the kind of scriptwriters you get in touch with and the choices you make, it isn't about personal craft, it's a collaborative effort.”

Ayushmann Khurrana's debut film Vicky Donor, which also featured Yami Gautam and Annu Kapoor, gained love from all corners. Following this success, Ayushmann appeared in Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyaan, and Hawaizaada, none of which performed well at the box office. His fourth film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, marked the debut of Bhumi Pednekar. The film, which revolves around the marriage of an educated plus-size girl to a school dropout, received praise from both audiences and critics and achieved success at the box office. Talking about how failures are important in life, Ayushmann Khurrana added, “I think you become a true man when you have the ability to deal with failures. Success is a very lousy teacher and your failures are your friends, philosophers and guides.

In the video clip, Sushmita said, "My life is a story which I have played and lived. There was a major twist in my life story some time back. The point was when I suffered a massive heart attack. They were the longest 45 minutes of my life. There was a moment when I thought my story was over."

Chew on a couple of cloves of garlic every morning and wash them down with warm water to keep your blood sugar levels and cholesterol in check. While traditional medicine has always depended on anti-inflammatory properties of garlic to contain diabetes and heart blockages, this time there’s proof in a mega review of 29 studies that two cloves daily can indeed yield twin benefits.

And since most people with diabetes have a higher risk factor of developing heart disease, the findings could encourage them into smartly incorporating garlic into their diet. Says Dr Mukesh Goel, senior consultant, Cardiothoracic and Heart and Lung Transplant Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, “The study has found that garlic not only reduced fasting blood glucose level, which is crucial to diabetes management, but also cholesterol levels, which in turn would prevent buildup of plaque in arteries and a heart attack.”

Excerpts:

What does the study say?

The current meta-analysis pooled the results of 29 studies with a combined total of more than 1,500 participants. It shows that garlic leads to some decrease in HbA1C levels (average blood count of three months) and a small reduction in low density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol.

How does garlic work on diabetics?

Results from nine studies that analysed the link between garlic and diabetes showed a significant reduction in fasting blood glucose (sugar) within two weeks in the group that took up to

US Panel Approves FDA OK for New Alzheimer’s Drug Donanemab

After extensive debate on the cost-benefit analysis, an independent advisory committee to the FDA voted unanimously to recommend the approval of the new Alzheimer's drug, Donanemab, by Eli Lilly. Despite modest benefits and side effects such as brain swelling and bleeding, the committee concluded that the benefits of slowing cognitive decline in early-stage Alzheimer’s patients outweigh the risks. Initially, the FDA withheld approval in March, pending further review by an independent panel, which has now endorsed the drug, typically influencing the FDA's final decision. Donanemab, similar to its predecessor Lecanemab, is a monoclonal antibody targeting amyloid beta protein plaques in the

brain, a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Phase III clinical trials demonstrated that Donanemab slows cognitive decline by 35.1% over 76

weeks in a study involving 1,736 patients, with 860 receiving infusions every four weeks. This improvement, measured through tests of memory and motor skills, translates to better daily activities like conversing with others. However, while it slows disease progression, it does not cure Alzheimer's. The trials also revealed that Donanemab may cause slightly more adverse events than Lecanemab. Apart

improve cholesterol and blood sugar levels lies in its active compounds, particularly organosulfur compounds. These inhibit cholesterol synthesis and lower plasma concentrations of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in both animal and human studies. Additionally, garlic has been found to accelerate the breakdown of blood clots and reduce blood pressure, both of which are beneficial for cardiovascular health. It also increases high density lipoprotein (HDL) or the good cholesterol in the process.

How can you incorporate garlic into your diet?

You can have raw garlic, which can be mixed into condiments or added to meals. Another option is to use garlic supplements, such as aged garlic extract, which have been shown to be effective in lowering cholesterol levels. Additionally, incorporating garlic-rich foods like garlic-infused oils, garlicroasted vegetables, or garlic-based sauces into your meals can provide a flavourful and healthy way to increase garlic intake.

Add fresh garlic, chopped or crushed, while preparing or seasoning foods. But the best way is to layer it on home-made dips and spreads.

Should one take garlic supplements?

Supplements provide a standardised and concentrated dose of active compounds. On the other hand, consuming garlicrich foods allows for a more natural and varied intake of active compounds. But if you are not comfortable with the pungent taste and odour of garlic, you could look at supplements then.

Does Post-Meal Green Tea Aid Weight Loss?

from infusion-related reactions, the main concern is amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) such as brain swelling and bleeding, though most are asymptomatic. In the study, 24% of participants experienced ARIArelated brain swelling, and 19.7% had brain bleeds. Despite three treatment-related deaths, many experts prefer Donanemab due to its less frequent infusion schedule.

Dr. Pravat Mandal from the National Brain Research Centre emphasized the need to explore other treatment modalities, noting that Alzheimer’s has multiple dimensions requiring diverse therapies. His team is investigating the role of iron build-up and oxidative stress due to declining antioxidant levels. Additionally, a JAMA editorial highlighted the need for validated tools and primary care expertise to grade the disease, as Donanemab's most significant impact is in its early stages, posing cost challenges.

Green tea is often promoted as a potent aid for weight loss, especially when consumed after meals. However, the reality behind its fat-burning reputation is more nuanced. Green tea contains antioxidants like catechins, notably epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and caffeine, which are believed to boost metabolism and aid in fat breakdown. While these compounds do have metabolic benefits, the effects on weight loss are modest and require consistent consumption over time. Studies have shown that green tea supplements, rich in catechins or caffeine, can slightly enhance weight loss efforts when combined with exercise and a balanced diet. However, the doses used in research often exceed what is typically consumed through regular tea drinking. Drinking two to three cups of green tea daily may have a minimal impact on weight loss due to the lower concentrations of active compounds. Green tea also offers benefits beyond weight management. It can help hydrate the body and reduce appetite, potentially curbing overeating tendencies.

Delhi airport roof collapse puts spotlight on PM Modi's infrastructure challenge

A roof collapse at New Delhi's main airport highlights Prime Minister Narendra Modi's challenges to make India a global aviation hub and raises questions about the rapid pace of infrastructure development in India.

A part of the roof and pillars outside the departure area of Delhi's domestic T1 terminal, one of the nation's busiest, collapsed after heavier than average rainfall, killing one person, crushing cars and leading to indefinite suspension of operations. The collapse joins a growing list of incidents involving infrastructure over the past year that has prompted questions from opposition party politicians and experts about the risks of lax regulation and the fast pace at which projects are completed.

India Criticizes US Religious Freedom Report as Biased

New Delhi: India has called the US State Department's report on religious freedom a "deeply biased" one that "is visibly driven by vote bank considerations and a prescriptive outlook".

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters the report also lacks an understanding of India's social fabric, and selectively picked incidents to advance a preconceived narrative as well. "... As in the past, the report

is deeply biased... The exercise (US report) itself is a mix of imputations, misrepresentations, selective usage of facts, reliance on biased sources, and a one-sided projection of issues," Mr Jaiswal said. "This extends even to the depiction of our constitutional provisions and duly enacted laws of India... In some cases, the very validity of laws and regulations are questioned by the report, as are the right of legislatures to enact them," he said.

"The report also appears to challenge the integrity of certain legal judgments given by Indian courts. The report has targeted regulations that monitor the misuse of financial flows into India, suggesting that the burden of compliance is unreasonable," he said, adding the US has even more stringent laws and regulations and would "surely not prescribe such solutions for itself".

development. The Indian government, along with private companies, wants to spend $12 billion building new airports and expanding existing ones as it seeks make air travel as accessible and affordable as the country's vast rail network. This is part of Modi's broader, $1 trillion infrastructure push across the country which has been the cornerstone of his pitch to boost India's economy and increase jobs. Modi's plans include making India a rival to big aviation hubs like Dubai and Singapore. Since Modi came to power in 2014, India's operational airports have nearly doubled to 140 and the government plans to increase this to 220 before the end of the decade.A video titled "Revolutionizing Airports" posted by Modi on his YouTube account earlier this year explained that an upgrade of Delhi T1 had cost $553 million, though the roof that collapsed was not part of it.

"All Airports To Be Audited": Minister

New Delhi: Expressing his condolences to the family of the taxi driver who was killed after a portion of the roof collapsed at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 on Friday morning, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has said that the ministry swung into action immediately and everyone was evacuated from the terminal as a precautionary measure.

Mr Naidu - who took charge of the ministry on June 13 - also listed the steps that the government is taking to ensure that the tragedy does not happen again and emphasised that the safety and comfort of passengers is his top priority.

T20 WC Biased for India, ICC Unfair to Others: Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels the ongoing T20 World Cup is "purely set up for India" and global body ICC should have been a bit more "fairer" to other countries as this is not a bilateral event organised solely for commercial gains.

"Well, it's their tournament isn't it? Literally it's that. You know that. They get to play whenever they want, they know exactly where their semifinal is, they play every single game in the morning so people can watch them at night, obviously in India on the television," Vaughan said during a podcast with Australian great Adam Gilchrist on the YouTube channel Club Prairie Fire.

US Voters Favor Biden's Democracy, Trump's Economy: Report

Washington: US voters see Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as the better candidate for the economy but prefer his Democratic rival President Joe Biden's approach on preserving democracy, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The three-day poll that concluded on Sunday showed that less than five months before the Nov. 5 election, the electorate is divided on the candidates' approach on the issues that respondents

view as the top two problems facing the nation.

Biden's approval rating, measured across all respondents in the poll, rose marginally to 37% from 36% in May when it tied the lowest reading of his presidency. Many Democrats worry Biden could be stung by voter concerns over his age - at 81 he's the oldest U.S. president to hold the office - and disapproval within his party of his support of Israel's war against Hamas. When asked which of the two candidates had a better approach for the economy - the No. 1 concern for respondentsregistered voters picked Trump 43% to 37%. Voters have been stung by several years of fast-rising consumer prices, though inflation has slowed considerably in recent months and the jobless rate has been below 4% for more than two years.

has been an inflow of more than $10 billion into Indian bonds.

The move will enable foreign inflow to accelerate into Indian bonds. Demand for Indian government bonds will increase due to the inflow of foreign investment. This will increase the size of the Indian bond market. Besides, liquidity and efficiency will also increase.

Till now, only banks, insurance companies, and mutual funds have been major investors in government bonds. Now, a large number of global investors will be able to invest in Indian bonds. This will reduce the bond yield and will also reduce the cost of borrowing for the government which is expected to reduce the fiscal deficit.

Demand for the rupee will increase due to foreign inflow and hence it may remain strong in the coming months.

highlighted cancer's significant global impact, with over 19 million cases and 10 million deaths annually. Their AI models, both binary and multiclass, identified cancer types from noncancerous tissue with remarkable precision, leveraging changes in DNA marks indicative of early cancer development.

This advancement represents a milestone in oncology, promising to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and treatment. Kalyan Sivasailam, CEO of 5C Network, emphasized the potential of AI in enhancing diagnostic accuracy, tailoring treatment plans, and improving patient outcomes. He underscored the need to address ethical, regulatory, and practical challenges for safe clinical deployment.

The technology's high accuracy stems from its use of deep learning, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), renowned for image recognition. These networks learn complex patterns from extensive, labeled medical imaging datasets. Pre-trained models, fine-tuned with specific cancer data, enhance accuracy by adapting general features to cancer detection tasks.

Gold Thief: How Tejas Kumar Patel Scammed Americans of over $100,000 in Gold Bars

The 21-year-old came to Chicago from India in 2023 on Green Card

You must have heard the story of a King whose touch turned everything to gold but ever heard of a thief who dealt only in gold? Well, this is a story of an unassuming 21-year-old boy who came to the US from India last year and whose run for gold got him behind the bars. Tejas Kumar Patel has been charged with multiple counts of grand thefts amounting to $100,000 or more. His crime – scamming older Americans and asking them to pay him in gold bars. But wait, before you gasp in disbelief because the story gets even more thrilling. Patel duped his victims while posing as a law enforcement official as he misled them into believing that he would help them get rid of outstanding arrest warrants. Over 100 gold bars were seized from his custody that now serve as evidence against him.

Patel came from India on a Green Card

Shockingly enough, Patel even though, being relatively new in America, was able to craft his devious modus operandi. Patel arrived from India last year in 2023 on a Green Card to work and visit the family. But the authorities believe that Patel may not be a solo operator. According to Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Patel had links with a larger

group of scammers who operate by targeting Americans by impersonating law enforcement and claiming they have outstanding warrants.

Patel and his conspirators targeted elderly and used fear tactics to lead them into “settling” with the “law officers” to avoid getting warrants. How he got caught Patel duped a resident of Martin County and asked him to buy $150,000 in gold

Over 400 Migrants Smuggled Into U.S. By ISIS-Linked Network, DHS Reports

WASHINGTON, DC-The Department of Homeland Security has identified over 400 immigrants from Central Asia and elsewhere as “subjects of concern” due to their connection to an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network, according to three U.S. officials. Over 150 have been arrested, but the whereabouts of more than 50 remain unknown. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is seeking to arrest them on immigration charges.

A senior Biden administration official noted that information suggesting a potential tie to ISIS prompted the authorities to exercise caution and expand their authority to mitigate risk. Since ICE began these arrests, no information has emerged linking the migrants to any threat to the U.S. homeland.

Many of these migrants were released into the U.S. by Customs and Border Protection because they were not on the government’s terrorism watchlist. However, recent terrorist attacks in Russia have increased concern about ISIS and its offshoot ISIS-K, leading DHS to scrutinize migrants from countries where ISIS-K is active, such as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia.

Former FBI counterterrorism chief Christopher O’Leary emphasized the urgency of locating these individuals and using immigration charges to detain those who might pose a national security threat. While some arrested migrants have been deported, others remain in custody or are awaiting court decisions on their stay in the U.S.

bars so that he could “settle” getting the arrest warrant. The victim complied and handed over the gold to a waiting driver. But the victim soon realized he was duped and involved the police. But eventually it was Patel’s new-found confidence and greed that got him caught. He called the victim again and demanded even more gold. But this time the detectives were waiting for him. Inside Patel’s car the detectives found another loot – over 100 gold bars worth about $242,000 that he stole from another such victim in the city.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page: “It’s hard to believe until you see the glitter of gold with your own eyes. More than $260,000 in gold bars which were seized from a phone scammer who thought he would never be caught. But now you can look at his face in a Martin County Sheriff’s booking photo. He is 21-year-old Tejaskumar Bipinbhai Patel.”

UK Polls Set To Deliver More Diverse Parliament, Many British Indian MPs

The upcoming UK general election is set to deliver the most diverse Parliament in the country's history, with a significant increase in parliamentarians of Indian heritage. According to the British Future think tank, the Labour Party is projected to have the largest number of ethnic minority MPs if it secures a majority. Currently, 14% of MPs come from an ethnic minority background, moving Parliament closer to mirroring the British electorate's diversity. "This election will see the biggest rise in ethnic minority representation and the most diverse Parliament ever," said Sunder Katwala, Director of British Future. In 40 years, representation has increased from zero to one in seven MPs being from

an ethnic minority background. The 2019 general election saw 15 MPs of Indian heritage elected, with many recontesting alongside new candidates. High-profile British Indians not seeking re-election include Conservative MP Alok Sharma and Labour's Virendra Sharma. Constituencies like Ealing Southall, with a large Punjabi electorate, feature British Sikh candidates Sangeet Kaur Bhail

Key British Indian candidates include Praful Nargund for Labour in Islington North, and Rajesh Agrawal, who is vying for Leicester East against Conservative Shivani Raja. This constituency, with a significant Indian heritage electorate, will be keenly watched as former MP Keith Vaz contests as an Independent. British-Indian Sikhs Warinder Juss from Wolverhampton West and Gurinder Singh Josan from Smethwick aim

to gain seats for Labour. Other notable candidates include Kanishka Narayan in Vale of Glamorgan, Sonia Kumar in Dudley, Chandra Kanneganti in Stoke-on-Trent Central, and Ameet Jogia in Hendon. British Future Associate Fellow Jill Rutter emphasizes that a diverse parliament leads to more effective policy-making and inspires community engagement in politics. Incumbent MPs vulnerable to a Labour swing include Tory MPs Shailesh Vara, Gagan Mohindra, and Claire Coutinho. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Cabinet members Priti Patel and Suella Braverman are expected to retain their seats. Treasurer Maria Pappas Reports Record-High Property Tax Increase

in South Suburbs

CHICAGO, IL - Homeowners in many south and southwest suburbs are facing significantly higher property taxes, with the median tax bill increasing by a record 19.9% in the region, according to Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas. The largest tax increases occurred in 15 south suburbs, where taxes soared by 30% or more. In Dixmoor and Phoenix, the median tax bill more than doubled. “Many homeowners are going to be shocked and angry when they get their bills,” Pappas said. “South suburban homeowners already pay some of the highest property taxes in the county, and these increases will make paying those bills even more difficult.”

A research team created by Pappas released its Tax Year 2023 Bill Analysis, examining nearly 1.8 million bills to be mailed to property owners on July 2 and due on August 1. This year’s Second Installment bills include a new feature, “Where Your Money Goes,” breaking down the amounts billed by each taxing district.

Key findings of the analysis include:

• Across Cook County, property taxes rose by about $706 million, from $17.6 billion to $18.3 billion. Homeowners are shouldering an extra $611 million,

while commercial properties owe an extra $102.9 million, and taxes on vacant land dropped by $7.8 million.

• In the south and southwest suburbs, where all properties were reassessed, taxes rose by a total of $265.4 million. The median south suburban residential tax bill increased by 19.9%, the largest percentage increase in at least 29 years. Homeowners bore the brunt of the increase, with their taxes rising by $396.8 million while taxes on commercial properties dropped by $121.6 million.

• In the north and northwest suburbs, taxes rose by $213.7 million, from $4.06 billion to $4.27 billion. Residential taxes increased by $109.8 million while taxes on commercial properties increased by $103.1 million.

• In Chicago, taxes increased by a modest 2.6%, mainly due to an increase in the Chicago Public Schools tax levy and bill increases in many tax increment finance districts

Homeowners in the south and southwest suburbs are particularly impacted due to new assessments shifting 4% of the overall tax burden from businesses onto them. The financial shift was caused by the elimination of the 10% COVID-19 assessment reduction enacted in 2020, higher home selling prices, and the success businesses had in appealing their assessments. In Park Forest, the median residential bill rose by 56% to $7,152. In Dixmoor, the median bill increased by 122% to $1,950, and in Phoenix, it shot up by 107% to $1,744. Nearly 4,200 homeowners who paid no taxes last year will receive bills this year because the value of their exemptions no longer exceeds the higher assessed values of their homes. The median for those bills is $1,115. Property owners can pay their taxes online now at cookcountytreasurer.com. Partial payments are accepted.

misbranded HIV medications, and a $146 million addiction treatment fraud. Additionally, $1.1 billion in telemedicine and laboratory fraud and over $450 million in various other healthcare frauds were uncovered.

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri noted the severe impact of healthcare fraud on patients and the system, stressing the department’s commitment to rooting out such frauds. The enforcement action was led by the Health Care Fraud Unit of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section, in collaboration with numerous federal and state agencies.

These efforts underscore a broad commitment to combating health care fraud, with charges, investigations, and prosecutions coordinated across multiple jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies. The defendants face allegations that include massive fraudulent claims, unlawful drug distribution, and exploitation of vulnerable populations, aiming to ensure integrity and accountability within the healthcare system.

FBI Issue Joint Warning About Global Financial Sextortion Crisis

WASHINGTON, DC- The FBI, in collaboration with international law enforcement agencies, is issuing a dire warning about a global financial sextortion crisis. This crime involves coercing minor boys into sending explicit images online and then extorting them for money. The FBI received thousands of reports in 2022, reflecting an alarming increase, and is aware of over a dozen related suicides.

Key Points:

1- Global Crisis: Financial sextortion is a worldwide issue affecting children everywhere. It primarily happens on digital platforms where children spend their screen time, like social media, gaming websites, and video chat applications.

2- Predator Tactics: Predators often pose as peers and use fake accounts to deceive boys into sending explicit photos or videos, then threaten to release the materials unless paid. In many cases, they release the images regardless of payment.

3- Offline Impact: Victims often feel alone, ashamed, and scared, sometimes resorting to self-harm. Law enforcement emphasizes that victims are not in trouble and should seek help.

Protective Measures:

• Accountability: The predator is to blame, not the victim.

• Report and Block: Use platform safety features to report and block the predator without deleting any messages.

• Seek Help: Consult a trusted adult or law enforcement before taking any further actions.

Life After Images: Trust that there is hope and support available.

Contact Information:

• FBI: Reach out to your local FBI field office, call 1-800-CALL-FBI, or report online at tips.fbi.gov.

• FBI Director Christopher Wray: Emphasizes the global impact and the FBI’s collaboration with international partners.

• Michelle DeLaune, CEO, NCMEC: Highlights the importance of education and support for victims.

• Gord Sage, RCMP: Stresses the serious implications of these crimes and the support available from police.

• Robert Jones, National Crime Agency: Advocates for international cooperation and ongoing safety conversations.

• Chief Myron Demkiw, Toronto Police Service: Underscores the role of local and international partnerships in raising awareness and protecting children.
