Joe Biden To Serve Full Second Term If Re-Elected: White House

Washington: US President Joe Biden is committed to serving a full second term if reelected in November, the White House said Tuesday, as the 81-year-old fights for political survival as concerns mount over his age and fitness.

"Yes," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said when asked during a daily briefing if the Democrat pledged to serve another four years should he beat Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

The spokeswoman said she believed Democrats were now "absolutely" united

Canada faces pressure at Nato summit for riding on 'coattails'

Canada has lagged behind its Nato commitment to spend 2% of its GDP on its military

Canada is under mounting pressure to increase its military spending as it continues to fall short of the target set out for Nato members, raising fears that the country is becoming an outlier among its allies.

That message is expected to be made clear this week as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attends the Nato summit in Washington DC to mark the military alliance’s 75th anniversary.

Canada, a Nato-founding member, ranks seventh overall in the amount of money spent on defence among the 32-nation alliance. But it falls way short of the alliance’s doctrine, which requires Nato countries to spend at least 2% of their GDP on the military.

"We do want to turn the page... We want to get to the other side of this," JeanPierre said when asked if Biden now believed the crisis was behind him.

"He wants to move forward, unite the party," she said. "The president's going to move forward."

Biden pledges air defences for Ukraine as Nato summit begins

US President Joe Biden has pledged to provide Ukraine with five new strategic air defence systems to counter relentless Russian attacks, in a forceful speech welcoming Nato leaders to Washington DC.

In brief but strongly delivered remarks at the opening of the summit, the president declared the military alliance "more powerful than ever" as it faced a "pivotal moment" in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Mr Biden said the US would partner with Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Romania to donate Patriot missile batteries and other systems to aid Ukraine, amid growing civilian casualties in the conflict.

The announcement comes just two days after a Russian missile levelled a children's hospital in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv - an attack the city's mayor said was among the worst since the beginning of the war.

Some 43 people were killed by blasts across the country in Monday's attack, with over a hundred more injured, officials said. Russia denied responsibility for the attack, but the UN - and analysts who spoke to BBC Verify - pinned the blame on Moscow.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has spent months pleading with his Western allies to step up supplies of air defences.

US Affirms India as Strategic Partner Despite Russia Concerns

India has been stoutly defending its 'special and privileged strategic partnership' with Russia and maintained the momentum in the ties notwithstanding the Ukraine conflict

The US has said it would continue to view India as a strategic partner and have a robust dialogue with it despite having concerns over its ties with Russia, underlining that it trusts that New Delhi would convey to Russian President Vladimir Putin the importance of adhering to the UN charter and the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity over Ukraine.

Actor Jay Johnston Pleads Guilty To Charges Over January 6 US Riots

Bob's Burgers' actor Jay Johnston has pleaded guilty to charges of being involved in the January 2021 US Capitol riot, BBC has reported. The 54-year-old faces up to five years in prison for the felony count of civil disorder. A sentencing date has not been set yet. According to court documents, Johnston participated in a violent mob that attacked police officers. A video showed him taking a shield from an officer and using it to push back officers defending the Capitol.

Attempted carjacker shot outside top US judge's home

Justice Sotomayor’s home is not believed to have been a deliberately targeted.

On Tuesday, spokespersons of the Pentagon and the State Department reacted separately to questions on India's relationship with Russia and Modi's visit to Moscow.

"India and Russia have had a relationship for a very long time. From a US perspective, India is a strategic partner with whom we continue to engage in full and frank dialogue to include their relationship with Russia. As it relates to the NATO summit being this week, of course, like you, the world is focused on that," Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder told reporters at a news conference.

A Deputy US Marshal shot a would-be carjacker while he was guarding Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s home in Washington DC, authorities said. The man was shot after approaching the car the officer was sitting in and tapping the window with a gun. The deputy fired several times, hitting the suspect in the mouth. A second deputy also opened fire, but did not hit the man, police said. Justice Sotomayor’s home is not believed to have been a deliberately targeted. The suspected carjacker, named in charging documents as Kentrell Flowers, 18, is being treated in hospital and faces carjacking and firearms charges.

"60 Percent" Of Hamas Fighters Dead Or

Wounded: Israel Defence Minister

Yoav Gallant reaffirmed in a statement to parliament on the first nine months of the conflict that Israel was "determined" to meet its war goals of eradicating Hamas and bringing all hostages back from Gaza.

Jerusalem: Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said Wednesday that 60 percent of Hamas fighters had been "eliminated or wounded" in the Gaza war since the group's October 7 attacks. Gallant reaffirmed in a statement to parliament on the first nine months of the conflict that Israel was "determined" to meet its war goals of eradicating Hamas and bringing all hostages back from Gaza.

The minister praised Israeli soldiers for "performing their work with dedication, sacrifice and success" and said "the achievements are many".

We don't have to repay UK for axed deal - Rwanda

Rwanda has said it is not required to refund the UK after a multi-million pound migrant deal between the two countries was scrapped.

New UK Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Keir Starmer announced at the weekend that the plan to deport some asylum seekers to Rwanda was "dead and buried".

The scheme was forged by the previous Conservative government, which since revealing the plan in 2022 has paid Rwanda £240m ($310m).

Chinese Man Arrested for Smuggling Over 100 Live Snakes in Trousers

Beijing, China: A man has been caught trying to smuggle over 100 live snakes into mainland China by cramming them into his trousers, according to the country's customs authority. The unnamed traveller was stopped by customs officers as he sought to slip out of semi-autonomous Hong Kong and into the border city of Shenzhen, China Customs said in a statement on Tuesday. "Upon inspection, customs officers discovered that the pockets of the trousers the passenger was wearing were packed with six canvas drawstring bags and sealed with tape," the statement said.

The minister did not give figures for the casualties and the Israeli military said it did not immediately have statistics.

The October 7 attack on southern Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The operatives also seized 251 hostages, 116 of whom remain in Gaza, including 42 the military says are dead.

Israel's military retaliation has killed at least 38,295 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run territory's health ministry.

While many countries expressed solidarity with Israel after the October 7 attacks, the government has also faced a wave of criticism for its military campaign that has devastated Gaza.

Russia promises release of Indians fighting in its army

Russia has promised an early release of all Indian citizens fighting in its army, India’s foreign ministry has said.

The announcement came at the end of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow, during which he raised the issue with President Vladimir Putin.

Delhi has been seeking the release of Indians, who say they were lured to

Russia on the promise of non-combat jobs in the army, but were later forced into active combat in Ukraine.

At least four Indians have been killed in the fighting. On Tuesday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said at a press briefing that Mr Modi had "strongly raised the issue of early discharge" of Indians who had been "misled into the service of the Russian army”.

“The Russian side promised early discharge of all Indian nationals from the service of the Russian army,” he added. Mr Kwatra said there were about 35-50 Indians in the Russian forces, of whom 10 had already been brought home. The two countries would now work to bring back the remaining men, he added.

"Not Prepared To Continue With

Gimmicks":

New UK PM To Scrap Rwanda Plan

London: Britain's new Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday said he was "not prepared" to continue with the previous Conservative government's flagship scheme to deport migrants to Rwanda.

"The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started... I'm not prepared to continue with gimmicks that don't act as a deterrent," he told reporters at his first news conference.

Ex-prime minister Rishi Sunak has staked his political reputation on his plan to "stop the boats", pushing the

Israel military tells Gaza City residents to leave

The Israeli military has told all residents of Gaza City to evacuate south to the central Gaza Strip, amid an intensified offensive there.

Leaflets dropped by aircraft instruct "everyone in Gaza City" to leave what is described as a "dangerous combat zone" via designated safe routes - marked as two roads that lead to shelters in Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida.

The UN has said it is deeply concerned about the evacuation orders being given.

"Shocking": 3 Women Killed In Crossbow Attack In UK

London: British police were searching Wednesday for a suspect who may have a crossbow after three women were killed in what police believe was a "targeted" attack. Kyle Clifford, 26, from north London, is wanted in connection with the deaths of the women in Bushey, near Watford, north of London, on Tuesday night.

"The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started... I'm not prepared to continue with gimmicks that don't act as a deterrent," he told reporters at his first news conference.

controversial deportation plan despite opposition from rights groups and judicial rulings. Labour, however, said it would jettison the scheme to remove people to Rwanda who crossed the English Channel by boat from northern France.

Immigration has become an increasingly central political issue since the United Kingdom left the European Union in 2020, largely on a promise to "take back control" of the country's borders. Starmer said previously that Sunak's policy was neither a deterrent nor value for money. He has pledged to tackle the issue "upstream" by smashing the peoplesmuggling gangs behind the crossings.

Hertfordshire Police said officers were called to a house in the town, where the three women aged 25, 28, and 61 were pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson said armed officers and specialist search teams were involved in the hunt, urging Clifford to make contact with police and the public not to approach him. He called it "a horrific incident involving what is currently believed to be a crossbow, but other weapons may also have been used".

Interior minister Yvette Cooper called the deaths "truly shocking" and said she was being kept updated about the inquiry.

One neighbour told reporters the victims were a friendly family."We would see them every day passing by and they would say good morning," she said. "It's really sad what's happened, very shocking."

India, Austria "Ready To Provide Support To Restore Peace" In Ukraine: PM Modi

Vienna: India stands ready to give all possible support to restoring peace to war-torn Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wednesday in Vienna after a Kremlin.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Vienna late Tuesday after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where he urged "peace through dialogue", saying that "war cannot solve problems".

Though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticised a photo of Prime Minister Modi hugging Putin during the visit, saying it was "a devastating blow to peace."

Prime Minister Modi's trip to Russia came as tensions flared in Europe, following a deadly Russian missile barrage in Ukraine that Kyiv said hit a children's hospital in the capital. "This is not an age of war. Problems cannot be solved on the battlefield,"

Prime Minister Modi told reporters in Vienna alongside Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

Prime Minister Modi said India and Austria stand "ready to provide all possible support" to "rapidly restore peace and stability".

On Ukraine, Nehammer said both countries shared the "common goal" to achieve a "comprehensive, just and lasting peace, in accordance with the UN Charter", underlining India's

Nikki Haley: Biden Incompetent, Harris Disaster for America

Washington: Indian American Republican leader Nikki Haley on Tuesday released the several dozen delegates she had won during the party's presidential primaries early this year for the presumptive nominee, Donald Trump.

The move by Haley comes ahead of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin wherein Trump would formally be nominated as the party's presidential candidate for the November 5 general election.

crucial role as the world's largest democracy. According to Nehammer, neutral Austria was ready to serve as a "venue for dialogue" for "future peace summits", adding that his cabinet was "in constant contact with the EU".

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also recalled that the Congress of Vienna in the 19th century had laid the foundations for peace and stability in this part of the world. The state visit to Austria coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and is the first by an Indian head of government since Indira Gandhi in 1983.

Case Against Karnataka BJP MLA For "Slap Rahul Gandhi" Comment

Mangaluru (Karnataka): BJP MLA Bharath Shetty has been booked for his alleged comments against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, police said on Wednesday. At a press conference here, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal said that an FIR has been filed by the police in Kavoor police station over the complaint lodged by K Anil, a Congress corporator of the Mangaluru City Corporation. In the complaint, the Congress corporator alleged that MLA Bharath Shetty had made a provocative statement taking the name of Rahul Gandhi.

"The nominating convention is a time for Republican unity. Joe Biden is not competent to serve a second term and Kamala Harris would be a disaster for America. We need a president who will hold our enemies to account, secure our border, cut our debt and get our economy back on track. I encourage my delegates to support Donald Trump next week in Milwaukee," Haley said in a statement. Haley had won 97 delegates, as against Biden's 2,265. A candidate needs 1,215 delegates to win the GOP's presidential nomination. She had suspended her campaign in March.

The former US ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina governor is not attending the RNC. "She was not invited and she is fine with that. Trump deserves the convention he wants. She has made it clear she is voting for him and wishes him the best," Haley's spokesperson Chaney Denton said.

Pakistan Seeks China's Help to Restructure $15B Energy Debt

Pakistan has decided to approach its all-weather ally China with a formal request to restructure its USD 15 billion energy debt to help the cashstrapped country wriggle out of its financial woes.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb would visit China this week, the Express Tribune newspaper quoted highly placed sources as saying. While Iqbal’s visit was pre-planned, the finance minister is being sent as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s special messenger, they added. Iqbal is scheduled to attend the Global Development Initiative forum to be held in China from July 11 to 13. As the finance minister’s visit was not scheduled earlier, Pakistan’s ambassador to Beijing has been instructed to arrange meetings with Chinese authorities, said the sources.

Microsoft hiking Xbox Game Pass prices by up to 25%

Microsoft has announced big price rises for Game Pass, its Netflix-style subscription service for games.

The gaming giant, which purchased studio Activision Blizzard for a record $69bn (then £56bn) in 2023, says monthly charges for PC Game Pass will rise by £2 to £9.99, while its premium service, Ultimate, will go up by £2 to £14.99 per month.

It is also replacing its standard subscription tier on Xbox consoles in September, meaning Xbox gamers will now have to subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate if they want access to new games on the day they are released. It comes after Microsoft announced in May that its most eagerly awaited new title - Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 - would be available straight away to Game Pass subscribers. Analysts said that represented an attempt to shakeup the industry, which has long been dominated by sales of physical games. Game Pass, much like Sony's rival PlayStation Plus service, lets console and PC players play hundreds of video games for a monthly subscription fee.

Trump vows to stop outsourcing, if elected President

Washington: (IANS) Former American

President Donald Trump has promised to end outsourcing if re-elected, which should sound alarm bells across India's multi-billion-dollar outsourcing industry whose largest customer is the US, "Stop outsourcing, and turn the United States into a manufacturing superpower," said Trump’s 2024 Republican Party Platform released ahead of the party convention next week to anoint him as the party nominee for the White House, in his third run.

The platform is a list of 20 promises that articulate Trump’s "vision to Make America Great Again in a way that is concise and digestible for every voter", said Trump Campaign Senior Advisors

Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

"While Joe Biden and Democrats argue about who will be at the top of their ticket and have implemented policies that have raised prices on everyday families, opened the floodgates to migrant crime via wide-open borders, shackled

American energy with red tape forced by Washington bureaucrats, and sewn chaos across the world through weak foreign policy, President Trump will Make America Great Again through these America First principles."

The platform was a mix of the party’s conservative agenda and populist measures. They included promises to "seal the border", conduct the largest ever deportation programme, “prevent World War Three”, tax cuts for workers, end inflation, build the strongest military in the world, bring peace to Europe and West Asia, and retain the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

The Indian government and businesses will be alarmed by the promise to end outsourcing, which will bring back memories of a slew of measures announced in Trump's first term to curb outsourcing and targeting of Indian companies that dominated the outsourcing industry in the US. The administration had targeted the H-1B visa programme that American companies use to make up for the shortage of manpower available locally for high-speciality jobs.

The US accounts for an estimated 62 per cent of the business that the Indian outsourcing industry gets worldwide. US companies that have outsourced to Indian companies include giants like Ford Motors, Cisco, American Express (Amex), General Electrics and Microsoft.

China Tesla rival BYD signs $1bn Turkey plant deal

China's biggest electric-car maker, BYD, has agreed a $1bn (£780m) deal to set up a manufacturing plant in Turkey, as it continues to expand outside its home country.

The new plant will be able to produce up to 150,000 vehicles a year, according to Turkish state news agency Anadolu.

The facility is expected to create around 5,000 jobs and start production by the end of 2026.

The deal was signed at an event in Istanbul attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and BYD's chief executive Wang Chuanfu. BYD did not immediately respond to a BBC request for further details on

Ticketmaster warns customers to take action after hack

Ticketmaster customers in North America have been sent emails warning them to take action after the company was hacked in May.

Emails were sent overnight to Canadian customers, urging them to “be vigilant and take steps to protect against identity theft and fraud."

The company has not commented on the notification process - however similar emails have reportedly been sent to victims in the US and Mexico.

The personal details of 560 million Ticketmaster customers worldwide were stolen in the hack - with cyber criminals then attempting to sell that information online.

Tech giant Samsung workers to strike indefinitely

A union representing workers at South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics has called on its roughly 30,000 members to go on strike indefinitely, as part of its campaign for better pay and benefits.

The announcement came on the last day of a three-day general strike being held by the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU).

The union said it had made the decision after management showed no intention of holding talks over its demands.

the deal.

The announcement comes as Chinese EV makers face increasing pressure in the European Union and the US.

Last week, the EU took action to protect the bloc's motor industry by raising tariffs on Chinese EVs.

The decision saw BYD hit with an extra tariff of 17.4% on the vehicles it ships from China to the EU, which was on top of a 10% import duty.

Turkey is part of the EU’s Customs Union, which means vehicles made in the country and exported to the bloc can avoid the additional tariff.

The Turkish government has also taken action to support the country's car makers by putting an extra 40% tariff on imports of Chinese vehicles.

The NSEU, which represents nearly a quarter of Samsung Electronics' workers in South Korea, said its actions had disrupted production. Samsung has disputed these claims.

"Samsung Electronics will ensure no disruptions occur in the production lines. The company remains committed to engaging in good faith negotiations with the union," the firm told BBC News.

However, the union said: "The company has no intention to engage in a dialogue even after the first general strike, thus we declare a second general strike starting from July 10th, lasting indefinitely."

The ferocious Gautam Gambhir was named head coach of the Indian cricket team by the BCCI, which hoped that he would bring "tenacity and leadership" to the position that was held with "remarkable success" by Rahul Dravid until recently. While Abhishek Nayar, the assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders, is one of Gambhir's preferences, he reportedly also wants former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer R Vinay Kumar as the bowling coach in the Indian team.

Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast

experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most soughtafter coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey,” Shah wrote on his social media handle.

Gambhir is known to be a serial winner and will bring his vast experience and grit as the new coach of the Indian team, which clinched the latest edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean as a farewell gift to outgoing coach Dravid.

Gambhir’s previous assignment was with IPL Champions Kolkata Knight Riders as the Delhi-born southpaw took over the duties of the mentor for the Kolkata-based side and took them to the silverware after a wait of over a decade for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned unit. He will look to continue his golden run at the helm of the men in blue.

Rahul Dravid Cuts T20 WC Bonus by Rs. 2.5 Crore, Seeks Equal Reward: Report

The 'gentleman' Rahul Dravid has given another fine example of his character, deciding to let go of half of the INR 5 crore prize money that he was to get from the pool of Rs. 125 crore that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced for the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team. After Rohit

Sharma's men beat South Africa in the final to clinch the title, the BCCI announced that a total of Rs. 125 crore will be given to the team, coaching staff, and support staff as a cash reward. The cut for head coach Rahul Dravid came out to be INR 5 crore while the other coaches in the team were to be given Rs. 2.5 crore. Dravid asked the board to reduce his cash reward to Rs. 2.5 crore too as he didn't want to get more money in comparison to the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches. "Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs. 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments," a BCCI source said, as per the report.

Lionel Messi Says He Is Enjoying "Last Battles" For Argentina

Lionel Messi said he was enjoying his "last battles" with Argentina after the 37-year-old found the net in a 2-0 win over Canada on Tuesday to book a place in the Copa America final. After a lacklustre display against Ecuador in the quarter-finals, Messi looked back to himself again, connecting with Angel Di Maria and strike partner Julian Alvarez, who also scored. "I'm living it like I lived it in the last Copa America, in the last World Cup....these are the last battles and I'm enjoying them to the maximum," he told TyC Sports after the win set up a meeting with Uruguay or Colombia in the final.

Telangana CM announces house site, govt job

for India pacer Siraj

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday announced a residential plot and a government job for India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, a member of the victorious T-20 World Cup team.

The Chief Minister announced this after Siraj called on him at his residence.

Revanth Reddy congratulated the all-rounder for bringing laurels to the country and a great honour to the Telangana State in international cricket.

The Chief Minister ordered the officials to allot a residential plot and a government job to Siraj. The officials have been asked to identify suitable land in Hyderabad or surrounding areas and also take steps to provide a government job to him immediately.

"Work Wife" Rahul Dravid

Messi, now playing with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, has yet to indicate whether he will continue to play with Argentina in the 2026 World Cup, which will feature a final at the New Jersey venue.

But asked about Messi's "last battles" comment, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni asked for calm.

"We have to leave him alone, he knows that we will not be the ones to close the door on him. He can stay with us as long as he wants, even when he retires... Let him decide what he wants," he said. Messi has chance to win a third straight major title with his national side following their 2022 World Cup triumph and their 2021 Copa America win. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner referenced veteran team-mates Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi and said that the success was validation for the difficult barren years the team had suffered. "The truth is that it's crazy what this group has done, what the Argentina national team has been doing, because after all this it gives value to all (the tournaments) I and the old generation have played in," Messi said on TyC Sports.

"Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I'm not sure I ever will so here's my attempt," wrote Rohit in a post on Instagram.

In his post, Rohit also revealed that his wife Ritika Sajdeh refers to Dravid as his "work wife"

"Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I'm lucky to get to call you that too," the India captain wrote.

Every 2nd Medical Prescriptions In India Deviate From Standard Guidelines: Study

New Delhi: One in every two medical prescriptions issued in India deviated from standard guidelines, with approximately a tenth showing "unacceptable deviations", a study, conducted by a team of researchers including those at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, has found.

The team analysed 4,838 prescriptions issued by physicians between August 2019 and August 2020 for their compliance with standard treatment guidelines. These prescriptions were issued at 13 Rational Use of Medicines Centres (RUMC), set up by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and located in tertiary care teaching hospitals and medical colleges across the country.

The researchers found that among the 475 prescriptions they deemed to show unacceptable deviations from the standard guidelines, pantoprazole was prescribed the most often -- in 54 of them. Pantoprazole is known to help bring down the acid created in stomach and is commonly available in pharmacies under many drug names, such as Pan 40. In the 54 prescriptions, the condition

Parents To Be Punished, Penalised If Minors Found Driving: Noida Police

Noida: The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate has issued a stern warning to parents regarding the operation of two-wheelers and four-wheelers by individuals under 18 years of age.

The police have warned up to Rs. 25,000 fine, potential legal action against parents or guardians of underage drivers, 12-month vehicle registration cancellation, and no license until age 25 for the minor for flouting rules.

This move is part of a broader campaign to ensure road safety and adherence to traffic laws, the police said in light of several incidents involving minors in Noida, Greater Noida and other parts of the country. In an official statement released on Tuesday evening, the Noida Police emphasised that it is both inappropriate and illegal for minors to drive any vehicle.

The researchers found that among the 475 prescriptions they deemed to show unacceptable deviations from the standard guidelines, pantoprazole was prescribed the most often -- in 54 of them.

being diagnosed was Herpes Zoster, or shingles -- a viral infection causing painful rashes anywhere on the body.

Tablet pantoprazole 40 milligrams was prescribed along with others, including paracetamol, and ointments, according to the study published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research.

Among these 475 prescriptions, the

conditions most commonly diagnosed were found to be upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) and hypertension.

In 35 of the URTI prescriptions, the drug being prescribed was tablet rabeprazole domperidone (used to treat gastric conditions like acid reflux), which the researchers said was responsible for the prescription to be

Ready To Work Together On Border Issues: Chinese Foreign Minister To Ajit Doval

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed readiness to join hands with India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to "properly handle" issues related to the situation on the ground in the border areas, amid the protracted border row in eastern Ladakh.

In a congratulatory message to Mr Doval on his reappointment as India's National Security Advisor and Special Representative for the India-China boundary question, Mr Wang noted that China and India share a relationship that transcends bilateral boundaries and holds increasing global significance. Besides being the Foreign Minister, Mr Wang is also China's Special Representative of the India-China border talks mechanism.

In his message to Mr Doval sent on Tuesday, Mr Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the ruling

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this to Mr Doval in a congratulatory message on his reappointment as India's National Security Advisor and Special Representative for the India-China boundary question.

Communist Party of China, said China and India, as the two most populous developing countries and emerging economies in the world, share a relationship that transcends bilateral boundaries and holds increasing global significance.

Mr Wang noted that he is "ready to join hands with Mr Doval to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, properly handle issues related to the situation on the ground in the border areas, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas," state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.

qualified as one with "unacceptable deviation".

The tablet combination was prescribed along with others, including paracetamol and levocetirizine (treats cold and runny nose).

Tablet rabeprazole domperidone accounted for the second highest among the prescriptions with unacceptable deviations, after pantoprazole, the authors found. They said the most common potential consequences of irrational drug prescription for patients were high treatment costs and adverse drug reactions.

"Gastroprotective drugs are to be prescribed if the patient has a risk for developing peptic ulcer. Unnecessary prescribing of pantoprazole may lead to potential side-effects such as abdominal bloating, oedema and rash," the authors wrote.

The researchers said that most of the physicians followed the diseasespecific ICMR guidelines, with about 55 per cent adherence.

Where there were no Indian guidelines or recent updates in the guidelines, physicians used the international guidelines, such as those of the American Association of Family Physician or the American Heart Association, they said.

"Never Wanted Indians In Our Army": Russia

New Delhi: Russia on Wednesday said it is hoping for quick resolution of the issue relating to India's call for return of Indians recruited into the Russian Army as support staff and asserted their recruitment was purely a commercial matter.

In the first comments on the issue from the Russian government, Russia's Charge d'affaires Roman Babushkin said Moscow never wanted the Indians to be part of its Army and their number is insignificant in the context of the conflict.

"We are on the same side with the Indian government on the issue... We hope that the issue will be resolved soon," he said at a media briefing while responding to a question.

Mr Babushkin's remarks came a day after Russia promised to ensure the early release and return home of the Indian nationals working in the Russian military as support staff after Prime Minister Narendra Modi "very strongly" raised the issue with President Vladimir Putin.

Crafting comedy, in particular, is a delicate balance of timing and relatability. Tribhuvan Mishra isn't just a character; he's a journey through the absurdities of life.”

He added: “This show belongs to every single person who worked on it and brought this story to life with all heart. We embraced the challenge of weaving humour into a narrative that explores unconventional themes that can be refreshingly different in the Indian context.”

On creating the songs for the series, producer and music composer Ram Sampath shared: “It was like composing a symphony for a circus! Each note had to capture the whimsy, tension, and sheer madness of Tribhuvan's journey. Can’t wait to share it with the audience.”

‘Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper’ will drop on on July 18 on Netflix.

Munjya actress Sharvari Wagh is the new breakout star of Bollywood

After Triptii Dimri and Wamiqa Gabbi, the spotlight is shining on the newest talent in town — Sharvari Wagh. The Marathi girl from Mumbai has been around for a while but it is her performance in the June release Munjya that has caught everyone’s attention. Here’s a timeline of Sharvari’s purple patch. Sharvari’s journey began as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Bajirao Mastani, and to Luv Ranjan on Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. She auditioned for films alongside and made her acting debut in Kabir Khan’s web

series The Forgotten Army - Azaadi Ke Liye, opposite Sunny Kaushal. Sharvari’s film debut happened with Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2 in 2021, which starred Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan and Siddhant Chaturvedi.

Though the film failed to make a mark at the box office, Sharvari received appreciation for her performance.

A week before her birthday this June, the horror comedy Munjya — in which Sharvari plays the female lead — released at the theatres and immediately hit the box office sweet spot. The Aditya Sarpotdar-directed film is turning out to be one of 2024’s sleeper hits, having already crossed the Rs 100-crore mark, and Sharvari made a strong contribution through her performance as a possessed woman, in prosthetics. In the promotional Munjya song Taras, Sharvari also showed she can scorch the dance floor equally well.

On the heels of Munjya came the Netflix film Maharaj — the launchpad of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan — where Sharvari plays the feisty and lively Viraaj. Though it’s a brief role, Sharvari displayed her ease with the camera and her impeccable Gujarati accent. While she’s been basking in the success of Munjya, Yash Raj Films announced the action spy thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.

What exactly is going wrong in the Hindi film landscape off late? Is it only the rising fee of actors and their entourage? Is it bad filmmaking? In an interview with Faye D’Souza, filmmaker Karan Johar opened up on the same. He said, "Firstly, the audiences’ tastes have become very definitive. They want a certain kind of cinema. And if you (as a maker) want to do a certain number, then your film has to perform at A, B, and C centres. Multiplexes alone will not suffice. Simultaneously, the cost of filmmaking has increased. There has been inflation. There are about 10 viable actors in Hindi cinema, and they are all asking for the sun, moon, and earth."

The filmmaker added, "And then your film doesn’t do the numbers. Those movie stars asking for Rs 35 crore are opening to Rs 3.5 crore. How’s that math working? How do you manage all these? Yet, you have to keep making movies and creating content because you also have to feed your organization. So there’s a lot of drama, and the syntax of our cinema has not found its feet."

On Pathaan and Jawan If Jawan and Pathaan worked, should we do only action?’ Then everybody’s running that way. Then suddenly a love story would work. I feel like we are running around like headless chickens. Conviction has taken a complete beating, and it’s all about herd mentality. We haven’t realized that there is a certain audience now that wants rooted Indian cinema and, without the pressure of what the critics have to say, pure joy.

Shweta Tiwari BREAKS Silence

on Her Failed Marriages With Raja & Abhinav: 'When You Get Cheated...'

Shweta Tiwari has revealed that she has been cheated on multiple times in her past relationships. Shweta, who became a household name after playing Prerna in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, was previously married to Bhojpuri actor Raja Chaudhary but the duo got divorced in 2007. She later married Abhinav Kohli, but parted ways in 2019. In a recent interview, Shweta spoke at length about what stopped her from filing for a divorce from her first husband Raja Chaudhary despite facing domestic violence. Shweta has a daughter, named Palak Tiwari, from her first marriage.

Shweta said, “When you get cheated for the first time, it hits you. You cry, you feel, ‘God, why me?’ You try to fix it, you try to do everything possible to undo it. The second time when it happens, you will realise, this will never stop hurting, this is how it is going to be. When the third time you get cheated on, it stops hurting you. It stops having an impact on you. Now, when someone cheats on me, when someone hurts me, I don’t complain about it to them. I simply get detached. It’s in their personality to hurt me and now it’s in my personality to not get hurt.” She continued, “I don’t give them that power anymore. And suddenly they realise, ‘Oh she has left.’ So far, I have witnessed whosever lives I have left and walked away, are regretting.” When asked what took her so long to come out of the abusive relationship, Shweta said, “In my entire family, nobody had ever done a love marriage, I had. There was also caste problems that existed in our family, yet I had an inter-caste marriage. People had already started to taunt my mother and judging my marriage. On top of that, if I filed for a divorce, it would have been a whole different thing. At that point in time, it wasn’t that I was not financially independent, but it was more of an emotional thing. I was worried for my daughter not having a father while growing up. It was later that I realised that you can have a happy family only when you are mentally happy. It’s not a good upbringing for your child to be in a dysfunctional family. If two people can’t co-exist, it is better to part ways.”

How to protect diabetics from heart & kidney disease

New Delhi: (IANS) Using a combination of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) is likely to offer additional protection against heart and kidney disease in patients with diabetes, according to a study.

SGLT2is, also called gliflozins, are a class of drugs that lower blood glucose by increasing its excretion in the urine, while GLP-1RAs, such as Ozempic, work by enhancing insulin release and sensitivity.

Impaired glucose control in patients with diabetes is known to cause damage to blood vessels in the heart and kidneys. According to lead author Brendon Neuen, Clinical Associate Professor from The George Institute for Global Health, "the rapidly expanding indications for the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists, makes it important to look at their effects with SGLT2 inhibitors".

The new findings, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, are based on a meta-analysis of 12 largescale, placebo-controlled trials of SGLT2is involving 73,238

patients with diabetes, 3,065 of whom were already receiving GLP1-RAs.

The results showed that SGLT2is reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death by 11 per cent, independent of GLP1-RAs.

It also decreased hospitalisation for heart failure or cardiovascular death by 23 per cent versus placebo, even when added to GLP1-RAs. Further, the drug SGLT2is also reduced the risk of chronic kidney disease progression by 33 per cent when added to GLP1-RAs and slowed the annual loss of kidney function by almost 60 per cent when added to GLP-1RAs.

Importantly, no new safety concerns were identified when SGLT2is and GLP-1RAs were used in combination, the team said.

Both classes of medicines work independently of each other -- SGLT2 inhibitors against heart failure and chronic kidney disease; GLP-1 receptor agonists against heart attack, stroke, and also kidney disease, Neuen said.

How to Keep Your Knees Strong and Healthy

Despite being the largest joint in the human body, the knee can be underappreciated when it comes to daily exercise. After all, if you ask most folks what their workout routines consist of, they will probably tell you they do squats and lunges for glute and quad toning, planks and crunches for abdominal muscle strengthening and bicep and triceps curls for arm definition. However, you won’t hear many people talk about what they do to keep their knees strong and working well throughout an entire lifetime. Yet focusing on knee health and strength is important for active, healthy living, especially as we age. Strong knees help us keep our balance and avoid falls that can result in disabling fractures. Healthy knees also keep us moving without pain and allow comfortable walking, another underrated activity especially in life’s later years. To keep your knees strong and heathy, here are three critical keys for knee joint strength and active living protection.

Weight-Bearing Exercises

Focusing on weight-bearing exercises is crucial for developing, maintaining and increasing knee strength. Interestingly, specific exercises can help strengthen the knees by focusing not on the knees themselves but on the muscles that surround and support them. For example, strong quadriceps muscles can help take pressure and shock off of the knee joints by bearing some of the load and force of your everyday activities. Another tangible benefit of weightbearing exercises is that they don’t require any gym equipment and can be done just about anywhere. Whether you’re using your body weight when just starting to perform these moves or adding dumbbell or ankle weights

What is the healthiest butter you can buy? A dietitian shares her top 2 picks

No, butter isn't a health food, but with these tips in mind, it can be part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Butter from cow’s milk has 7 grams of saturated fat, which is a considerable amount. The American Heart Association suggests limiting saturated fat to no more than 6% of your calories, which equates to 13 grams of saturated fat if you’re on a 2,000 calorie diet.

Which butter is the healthiest?

There are times when it makes sense to cook with butter, or you may prefer spreading butter on your toast to dipping it in extravirgin olive oil.

Grass-fed butter

This type of butter comes from cows that graze on grass, leading to higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), according to research. This fat profile is healthier for your heart than traditional butter, so I’d consider it the healthiest butter.

Organic butter

as your strength increases, it’s all good for your knees.

As with any new exercise routine, be sure to talk to your doctor about what’s safe and suitable for your specific health needs before you get started. Once you have the all-clear from your provider, here are some fantastic knee-strength exercises to add to your workout routine: Calf and heel raises.

• Hamstring curls.

• Leg lifts.

• Seated knee extension.

• Single-leg dips.

• Standing knee flexion.

• Step exercises.

• Wall squats.

Your diet is the primary lifestyle factor that can set you up for knee health success – or failure – now and in the future. Biologically, your knees are specially designed to hold just the right amount of weight for your body. When they are required to bear a more significant load of force, the wear and tear on them accelerate, their function can be significantly reduced, and their structures can become irreparably damaged.

If you’re concerned about potential pesticide and hormone exposure, organic butter may be a better option. Plus, a 2017 study from the Netherlands found that, like grassfed butter, organic butter also had higher levels of omega-3 fats and CLA than conventional butter.

Tips for buying the healthiest butter

Whipped butter has air whipped into it, which can help make it more spreadable. That also means it has 45% less fat per serving than regular butter.

Spreadable butter is sometimes mixed with a seed oil, such as canola oil. This can lower the saturated fat from 7 grams to 4 grams per tablespoon, which can be helpful if you’re trying to manage your saturated fat intake. Choose a vegan butter if you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative to butter. You can find options made with numerous types of oils, such as coconut, sunflower and olive oil. You may also see versions with cashew milk. When selecting a vegan butter, try to choose one with ingredients you’d find in a home or restaurant kitchen and limit those with a long list of emulsifiers and other ingredients.

Only the 'Lord Almighty' could convince me to quit - Biden

US President Joe Biden has said only the "Lord Almighty" could convince him to end his bid for re-election, as he sat for a rare primetime interview in an effort to calm Democratic concern over his candidacy.

Speaking to ABC News on Friday, Mr Biden also declined to take a cognitive test and make the results public in order to reassure voters he is fit to serve another term.

"I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test - everything I do [is a test]," he told George Stephanopoulos.

The 81-year-old once again pushed back on the idea, aired by some Democratic officials and donors, that he should stand aside for a younger alternative following his disastrous debate with Donald Trump last week.

“I don’t think anybody’s more qualified to be president or win this race than me," Mr Biden said, blaming his poor performance last week on exhaustion and a "bad cold".

In the 22-minute interview, he also:

How Will Keir Starmer's Victory Affect the India-UK Free Trade Deal?

Keir Starmer, Labour Party leader set to be the UK's new Prime Minister, has constantly maintained that he wants to maintain good ties with the Narendra Modi administration.

New Delhi: India and the UK have been working towards a pact to enhance their £38.1 billion bilateral trading partnership, but negotiations have stalled due to India's phased general election and Britain's subsequent election. With both elections completed, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks, ongoing for two years, are expected to resume.

Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader set to be the UK's new Prime Minister, has maintained a desire for strong ties with the Narendra Modi administration, a shift from Jeremy Corbyn's policies. Labour Party Chair Anneliese Dodds noted before the elections that the party has addressed extremist views on India within its ranks.

The FTA was highlighted in Labour’s manifesto, which promised a "new strategic partnership" with India. Starmer aims to boost bilateral cooperation in technology, security, education, and climate change, reflecting his goal to strengthen relations with one

of the fastest-growing economies. However, the UK's demand to lower tariffs, which can reach 150% on key exports like food and automobiles, remains a major hurdle. Additionally, the UK's immigration policies affecting Indian service sector workers are challenging the negotiations. India has also raised concerns over proposed UK regulations, such as a carbon tax similar to the EU's carbon border adjustment mechanism, which could negate tariff concessions in the FTA. Recent virtual meetings between Indian and UK officials in May aimed to restart discussions, focusing on economic assessments and incorporating new areas like environment, labor, gender issues, and digital trade into the agreement. India, also engaged in FTA negotiations with the EU, Australia, Eurasian Economic Union, and Peru, continues to pursue its global trade interests despite the stalled talks with the UK.

Britain," he added.

Starmer, a 61-year-old former human rights lawyer and chief state prosecutor, paid tribute to Sunak, who was appointed Tory leader and prime minister in October 2022 after Liz Truss's disastrous tenure.

"His achievement as the first BritishAsian prime minister of our country, the extra effort that that will have required, should not be underestimated by anyone," he said.

"We pay tribute to that today. We also recognise the dedication and hard work he brought to his leadership," he added.

Flag-waving Labour supporters lined the approach to Downing Street as Starmer and his wife Victoria arrived from Buckingham Palace, shaking hands with and kissing activists.

Starmer faces a daunting to-do list, noting that Britons had grown tired of crumbling public services, higher prices and empty promises from politicians.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Keir Starmer on winning the UK elections and said he was looking forward to a positive collaboration with the Labour leader. He also had a message for outgoing prime minister Rishi Sunak.

"Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @Keir_Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity," PM Modi said on X. In a lengthy post on X, Mr Jethmalani said Mark Kingdon, the American businessman behind Kingdon Capital Management LLC, had hired Hindenburg to prepare a report on the Adani Group. Mr Kingdon also approached Kotak's international investment arm Kotak Mahindra Investments Limited (KMIL) to set up an offshore fund as well as offshore accounts to trade in Adani shares. This led to the creation of the Kotak India Opportunity Fund (KIOF).

This fund allegedly took short positions in shares of Adani Group Companies through the Mauritius route before the Hindenburg report was made public and nearly $ 40 million for this was given by the Kingdon Master Fund.

Biden's statement is quite contrary to the reports appearing in the media and the internal party murmurs that he should leave the election race amid his dismal performance in the presidential debate against his Republican rival Donald Trump

Donald Trump. "I'm the Democratic Party's nominee. No one is pushing me out. I'm not leaving, I'm in this race to the end, and WE are going to win this election. If that's all you need to hear, pitch in a few bucks to help [Vice President Harris] and me defeat Donald Trump in November," Biden said in his fundraising email on Wednesday. After his terrible performance in the presidential debate in Atlanta last Thursday, Biden's approval ratings have dipped, and his own party leaders are calling him to quite the race.

Congress Criticizes

New Delhi: Adopting a tit-for-tat strategy to counter the BJP's offensive in Parliament, the Congress has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, flagging "inaccuracies" in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.

The main Opposition has also flagged Hamirpur MP and former Union minister Anurag Thakur's speech in Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned after the President's address and the debate thereafter.

PM2.5 Pollution Kills 33,000 Indians Annually, Mostly in Delhi

New Delhi: Short-term air pollution exposure claimed 33,000 lives annually in 10 cities in India and Delhi tops the list with 12,000 deaths every year, according to a study published on Thursday in The Lancet Planetary Health. The study showed increases in the risk of death were steep at lower concentrations of PM2.5 and tapered off at higher concentrations. Even levels of air pollution below the current National Ambient Air Quality Standard of 60 micrograms per cubic meter lead to increased daily mortality rates in India, showed the findings led by an international team of researchers from Ashoka University, Sustainable Futures Collaborative (SFC) -- an independent Delhibased research organisation -- and Boston University (US).

The Hottest Polo Shirts on the Planet Ditch One Crucial Detail

Every now and then, an invention comes along that threatens to alter the course of history forever. Indoor plumbing; sliced bread; cellphones; those multicolored striped hats with little propellers at the top. Genius, Calvin once told Hobbes, is never understood in its own time, but wider understanding is hardly a prerequisite for human ingenuity, and we tend to be better off for it.

“It’s a…knit polo, right?” members of the GQ staff whispered to each other, afraid we were missing a crucial detail—air-conditioned armpits, a trompe-l'œil placket— that distinguished it from the knit polos we’ve encountered before. “It is

indeed a knit polo,” the winds of fate whispered to us. “But look closer, my children: it is a knit polo without any buttons.” With those three words, our lives (or, at least, or wardrobes) would never be the same.

TAG Heuer and Kith Are Bringing Back a Beloved ’80s Sport Watch

The original TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch collection was a massive commercial hit. During the 1980s and ’90s, when it was in production, it was released in over 20 different colors and came accessibly priced, at about $130 to $390. It was an ideal starter watch, or an easy graduation gift for any style-minded kid, and came in a mini 28-mm size, perfect for a young person’s wrist. The rugged plastic or stainless steel cases and rubber straps made it an even more fitting choice for someone not looking for a precious timepiece. Three million of these pop-colored watches were sold in the 10 years that they were made, making them a crucial star in the millennial-memory universe. That universe is exactly where Ronnie Fieg, founder of the nostalgia--fueled streetwear powerhouse Kith, does his best work. His latest shrewd move

is to revamp the Formula 1 for the modern collector—and for the hordes of hype-crazed fans he’s amassed since launching Kith in 2011. This is Fieg doing what Fieg does best—turning a beloved product from his youth into a modern status symbol. He’s done it with sneakers, streetwear, and even cereal. And his new collaboration with TAG Heuer is almost guaranteed to be another success. “This is as important to me as any [luxury] watch because of what it means to the market, what it means to the wide spectrum of watch lovers, and who it can cater to at its price point,” Fieg said. The Kith Formula 1 collection will revamp the watch in 10 new colorways, all of them heavily indebted to the originals. The updated version will feature an adultsize 35-mm case; pinstriped and clean dials stamped with Kith’s slogan Just Us; and will retain the original’s toothy daisy--shaped bezel and pop hues.

Four Indians Arrested in US for Human Trafficking and Forced Labour Scheme Uncovered

Houston: Four Indian-Americans, including a woman, have been charged with allegedly running a human labour trafficking scheme out of a home in the US state of Texas, a media report said.

The Princeton Police Department released details of an investigation that led to four people being arrested after 15 women were found inside the home as alleged victims of human labour trafficking, news portal Fox4News. com said on Monday night.

Chandan Dasireddy, 24, Dwaraka Gunda, 31, Santhosh Katkoori, 31, and Anil Male, 37, all arrested in March, are now charged with trafficking of persons, a second-degree felony, and more arrests are expected, the channel reported, quoting police.

The authorities found that all the young women, living in the same home, were forced to sleep on the floor at a home on Ginsburg Lane in

Collin County, Princeton. "There was basically no furniture inside the home at the centre of human trafficking, just a bunch of computer electronics and blankets," police said.

Another news portal, McKinney Courier-Gazette said officers with the Princeton Police Department were dispatched on March 13 to a residence regarding a welfare concern and suspicious circumstance.

"After further investigation of the initial report, Princeton Police CID detectives obtained a search warrant for the home of Santhosh Katkoori, where 15 adult females were located. During the investigation, it was discovered that the females were forced to work for Katkoori and multiple programming shell companies owned by him and his wife, Dwaraka Gunda," it said.

While the search warrant was executed, multiple laptops, cell phones, printers and fraudulent documents were

seized. It was later determined that multiple locations within Princeton, Melissa, and McKinney were involved in the forced labouring of the victims, including adult males, the portal said, adding, additional laptops, cell phones, and documents were seized from the other locations.

The original concern was raised by a pest control company, which was called for possible bed bugs. "Once inside, the inspector noticed that each room had 3-5 young females sleeping on the floors. There were also large amounts of suitcases. The company contacted police," Fox4News.com added.

The news portal quoted Princeton Police Sgt Carolyn Crawford who said over 100 more people are involved, "more than half of them victims." However, she did not reveal what type of labour operation was happening.

• Miss World America, Shree Saini

On June 23, the celebration continued at Don Knabe Regional Park in Cerritos, attended by the former chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. Activities included the International Day of Yoga celebration, a T10 cricket tournament, honoring defense personnel, a wellness resource fair, a play on Shivaji Maharaj’s life, dance dramas, and other inspirational events. Miss India, Simran Ahuja, was the emcee. The event was organized by a committee of 82 members, supported by 60 volunteers, 50 supporting organizations, and over 300 performers. Laredo Field Office Warns Against Bringing Freon Canister

LAREDO, TX– U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Laredo Field Office ports of entry remind travelers not to bring hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) canisters (freon) from Mexico, as their importation is restricted under strict federal commercial importation requirements. Undeclared freon canisters in passenger vehicles may lead to fines or vehicle seizures.

“We strongly remind the public not to bring freon canisters from Mexico. Doing so violates federal law and can result in fines, vehicle seizure, or federal prosecution,” said Donald Kusser, Director of Field Operations at Laredo Field Office. “CBP enforces laws from various federal agencies, including the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act of 2020 and the Clean Air Act, which prohibit noncompliant importation of HFCs.” Freon canisters discovered by CBP officers in a vehicle’s cargo area. HFCs, according to the EPA, are potent greenhouse gases used in refrigeration, air conditioning, insulation, fire extinguishing systems, and aerosols, with a global warming potential far greater than carbon dioxide.

Since January 1, 2022, EPA regulations prohibit importing bulk regulated HFCs without an EPA-issued allowance. Illegal importers face fines, and the violating vehicle may be seized.

CBP Expands Mobile Passport Control to Detroit Airport

DETROIT, MI. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will now offer Mobile Passport Control (MPC) starting July 9. MPC allows U.S. citizens and select non-U.S. travelers to expedite their entry into the U.S. through a secure, free app available on mobile devices.

Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon highlighted MPC’s role in enhancing the international travel experience by reducing passport control inspection times and overall wait times. Eligible travelers can submit their travel documents, photos, and customs declarations via the app, leading to shorter wait times and more efficient processing.

The MPC app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Travelers create profiles with their passport information, and up to 12 profiles can be managed for family members. Upon arrival, travelers can take selfies for each member of their group and submit the information through the app, eliminating the need for paper forms. With travel volumes exceeding prepandemic levels, CBP’s MPC program, launched in August 2014, is now available at 51 locations, including 33 U.S. international airports. In Fiscal Year 2023, over 1.8 million travelers used MPC. For more information, visit the CBP MPC website.

Rep. Krishnamoorthi, Samosa Caucus, DOJ Discuss Hate Crimes Against Hindus

WASHINGTON, DC-Last week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) held a briefing with Indian American Members of Congress and senior Department of Justice (DOJ) officials regarding the Department’s strategy concerning hate crimes targeting Hindus in the United States, including acts of vandalism against mandirs. This meeting follows a letter from the Members that Congressman Krishnamoorthi led to the DOJ earlier this year, citing incidents of vandalism against mandirs from California to New Jersey, in addition to growing threats faced by the American Hindu community more broadly, including on social media.

“Last week’s meeting was an important starting point for addressing the threats posed by Hinduphobia as the rate of hate crimes across the nation grows and as American Hindus and their places of worship face harassment, vandalism, and even graver dangers,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “While the Department of Justice has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its outreach to the Hindu American community, significant challenges remain as we continue to work to protect Hindus, and every other American community, from hate crimes.”

Dr Sunil Kaza Is Duly Elected Chair Of The AAPI Board Of Trustees

NEW YORK, NY- Dr. Sunil Kaza, an eminent cardiologist, was elected as the Chair of the AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) Board of Trustees (BOT) for 2024-25 on June 8, 2024. The election occurred during the Spring Governing Body meeting at Mint Restaurant in Garden City, NY, with a full quorum and 24 out of 25 votes endorsing Dr. Kaza’s candidacy.

Dr. Lokesh Edara, the current BOT Chair, confirmed the election was conducted transparently and documented promptly. However, Dr. Kaza’s election faced a challenge when the AAPI President conducted an unconventional alternate election via Election Buddy software, raising concerns about the legitimacy and transparency of this process.

Dr. Kaza argues that the alternate election excluded legitimate Governing Body members and contained discrepancies. He remains hopeful for a resolution, suggesting a dialogue between the parties to reach a compromise. Historically, similar disputes have been resolved by sharing the term between candidates.

As BOT Chair, Dr. Kaza aims to implement AAPI’s projects in India, such as promoting the HPV vaccine, increasing CPR awareness, and supporting free health clinics. With extensive experience in leadership roles and a commitment to charitable activities, he is dedicated to advancing AAPI’s mission and projects.

Massive Wildfire’s Smoke, Odor Detected In South Jersey Communities

NEW JERSEY- A massive wildfire in a state forest is affecting South Jersey, with smoke visible and odors detectable across the region. The Tea Time Hill Wildfire, ignited by a fireworks device on July 4th, has burned 4,000 acres and is 75 percent contained as of Monday morning, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Though in a remote area of Wharton State Forest, the fire poses no risk to homes or properties. Smoke and odors have been reported by fire departments in Cinnaminson, 35 miles northwest, and Lindenwold, 30 miles west. “The winds have shifted, causing smoke and odors in our area,”

noted the Lindenwold Fire Department. Residents concerned about the smoke are advised to call 911. Wildfire smoke occasionally travels to populated areas, as seen last summer with another Wharton State Forest fire. Officials recommend that people

with respiratory issues keep windows closed and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. The wildfire is near the Batona Campground and Apple Pie Hill, prompting evacuations and trail closures in the Pinelands National Reserve. Roadways in Wharton State Forest, including Carranza Road, are shut down.

Most New Jersey wildfires are humancaused, and climate change is expected to worsen wildfire conditions, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Tea Time Hill Fire is under investigation, and tips can be reported to the New Jersey State Park Police tip line at 844-PARK-TIP.

REAL ID Alert: Less Than A Year Left For Californians To Apply

CALIFORNIIA- The REAL ID will be required to board domestic flights and enter federal facilities such as military bases, federal courthouses, and other secured facilities after the May 7, 2025 deadline. This marks the third extension by the Department of Homeland Security, with travelers previously facing a May 3, 2023 deadline. Federal identification requirements

Starting May 7, 2025, the REAL ID will be required for domestic flights and access to federal facilities

Thanedar Backs Biden After Debate

Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar has vowed for his unwavering support for President Joe Biden in the upcoming elections. Thanedar is a first-time congressman representing Michigan’s Detroit area. It may be noted that Michigan is a crucial battleground state and Thanedar’s endorsement does hold value in this swing state.

U.S. domestic flight or enter a federal facility after the 2025 deadline. Federally-approved identification such as a passport or military ID will be allowed at TSA checkpoints nationwide. A non-REAL ID may be used as photo identification but not as evidence of legal presence in the U.S., and additional documentation may be required, the DMV said.

Anyone under the age of 18 won’t be required to provide their ID when traveling with a companion within the U.S. However, their companion will need a REAL ID, passport, or a DHS Traveler Card. To obtain a REAL ID, the DMV said Californians can complete their application online.

Ever since the debacle of debate night, where Biden was unable to hold a consistent performance, the approval ratings for the current president have been dwindling. Amongst all the five Indian American congressmen, Thaedar has become the first to come out and offer his endorsement for Biden despite the dismal performance at the debate in Atlanta.

There are growing calls within the party that Biden should withdraw from the election race.

Thanedar talked about his experiences with Biden and said, “A few months ago, I sat 20 feet away from President Biden and listened to him outline his vision for our country for nearly an hour. I've had multiple one-on-one conversations with him where he speaks fondly of Detroit and understands the problems we face. He is the same person we elected in 2020, where he was the most effective leader we've had in modern times."
