Cruz, Sanders win Wisconsin primaries Mathematically, their victories does not change the contour of the races as Trump and Clinton continue to hold an almost insurmountable delegate lead IANS, WASHINGTON
U
S Republican Ted Cruz has won the presidential primary in Wisconsin, dealing a blow to front-runner Donald Trump, while Democratic contender Senator Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton in a close contest. The loss is more damaging to Trump, because he is in greater danger of failing to lock up the party’s nomination ahead of the July convention. In the Republican race, the first results showed a massive lead for Cruz: With more than 20 percent of votes in, he led Trump by more than 20 percentage points. Trump may still get some delegates from Wisconsin, however, the state awards some delegates by congressional districts, and he was leading in rural districts in Wisconsin’s northwest, according to Washington Post. Cruz savored the victory, casting it as proof that the GOP race had turned. The party’s anti-Trump forces had coalesced behind an unlikely champion: a Texas senator who seemed like the worst possible choice for the GOP establishment, right up until they met candidate Trump.
BRIEFS: White House intruder arrested WASHINGTON: A man was arrested late on April 1 after he allegedly threw a backpack and then jumped over the north fence of the White House, media reported on April 3. According to the Secret Service, the incident occurred at around 11.40 p.m., more than four hours after President Barack Obama returned home from the Nuclear Security Summit, ABC News reported. The man was “immediately taken into custody” by the Secret Service “without incident” and charged with unlawful entry. He was then transported to the D.C. Metropolitan police department, the Secret Service said.

Early results with 23 percent of all votes counted show Cruz won 52 percent compared to Donald Trump’s 30 percent, while in the Democratic field, Sanders beat Hillary Clinton with 54 percent to 46 percent with 27 percent votes counted, Xinhua reported. Mathematically, the victories of Cruz and Sanders in Wisconsin did not change the contour of the races where Trump and Clinton continued to hold an almost insurmountable delegate lead.
‘Clinton not fit to be president’ WASHINGTON: US presidential candidate and self-styled Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders said his opponent and front-runner Hillary Clinton was not “qualified” to be president. “Secretary Clinton appears to be getting a little bit nervous,” he told a crowd in Philadelphiaon April 6. “And she has been saying lately that she thinks that I am ‘not qualified’ to be president. Well, let me, let me just say in response to Secretary Clinton: I don’t believe that she is qualified.” Sanders beat Clinton with 54 percent to 46 percent on April 5 during the Wisconsin presidential primary. After Wisconsin, the next state to vote in the primaries to elect the Republican and Democratic candidates for the November presidential election is New York, where voters will go the polls on April 19. Sanders, during his speech went

Trump entered the contest on Tuesday with 736 delegates, 267 delegates more than Cruz, while Clinton led Sanders by 263 pledged delegates, according to the latest delegate count by the New York Times. However, the victories on Tuesday would be crucial for Cruz and Sanders to build momentum as the contests now move to New York, the home turf for both Trump and Clinton. “Tonight is a turning point. It is
a rallying cry,” Cruz told supporters in Milwaukee. “We have a choice. A real choice. The national political terrain began to change two weeks ago,” he said, meaning when he won by a large margin in Utah. Cruz said his campaign had raised $2 million on Tuesday alone. In the Democratic race, Sanders was leading Clinton by about seven percentage points, 53 percent to 46 percent, with 30 percent of precincts reporting.
NEW YORK: An Arab-American family has requested for a formal apology from United Airlines after being removed from a flight which claimed was “discrimination at its finest”. After a discussion with a flight attendant about how to secure a child booster seat on March 20, United employees said the family needed to leave the plane en route to Washington from Chicago because of “a safety of flight issue”, according to a YouTube video posted by the mother, Eaman- Amy Saad Shebley. “We are tired of Muslim-looking passengers being removed from flights for the flimsiest reasons, under a cryptic claim of ‘security’,” said Ahmed Rehab of the Council on American-Islamic Relations , which is representing the family.

I don’t think you are qualified if you have supported virtually every disastrous trade agreement which has cost us millions of decent paying jobs,” he said. The two candidates will face off in a debate in New York on April 14, hosted by TV channels CNN and NY1.
our groups of Indian students are part of nearly 80 teams that will participate in the US space agency’s “Human Exploration Rover Challenge” to help NASA realize its goals for future exploration to Mars and beyond. The teams from the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering in Maharashtra, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee in Uttarakhand, Sathyabama University in Tamil Nadu, and Skyline Institute of Engineering and Technology in Uttar Pradesh will be taking part in the challenge, NASA said in a statement. The teams from the US, India, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Colombia, Russia and Puerto Rico will compete in the annual challenge, to be held at the US Space and Rocket
Centre in Huntsville, Alabama, on April 8 and 9. The rover challenge requires student teams to design, construct, test and race human-powered rovers through an obstacle course that simulates the terrain potentially found on distant planets, asteroids or moons. Teams race to finish the threequarter-mile-long obstacle course in
the fastest time, vying for prizes in various divisions. In this edition, participating teams are required to design and fabricate their own wheels. ‘Every bit of ‘Panama Papers’ being probed’ The finance minister says while some people are angry with him because the government is strict, some previous regimes kept silent on the issue of illegal money parked abroad in tax heavens IANS, NEW DELHI
F
inance Minister Arun Jaitley on April 7 said that every bit of “Panama Papers” which point toward offshore companies set up by more than 500 Indians, will be probed and that people with illegal money stashed abroad “won’t get to sleep” at night now. “In last three days we have formed a group. We are analysing each and every account to find out what is legal and what is illegal,” Jaitley said in an interview to ETV News Network, referring to the probe ordered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Those who are having legal accounts, they need not worry and those having illegal accounts won’t get sleep at night,” the finance minister said, adding: “Those people who have kept it illegally, we will try to detect it fully. And I think that soon every thing will be made clear.” For four days now the media around the world has been carrying stories on people with offshore firms, as part of the expose by the
Kejriwal gets bail in defamation case NEW DELHI: A court here on April 7 granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders in a criminal defamation Arvind Kejriwal case filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the wake of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) controversy. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Dass granted the bail to Kejriwal as well as Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee. The court asked them to furnish a personal bond of Rs.20,000 and a surety of like amount each. Jaitley, who filed the complaint against Kejriwal and the others, was present in the court. Jaitley told the court on January 5 that they had given “false and defamatory” statements against him in the case involving the DDCA, thereby harming his reputation.

He said such firms can be opened with the central bank’s permission. “So, I think he (Rajan) must have said it in that reference -- that people who have kept the money
by taking permission from the RBI is legitimate and who have kept the money by not taking permission of RBI is not legitimate.” Adding a political twist to the black money issue, Jaitley said while some people were angry with him because the government was strict, some previous regimes kept silent on the issue of illegal money parked abroad. “Liechtenstein accounts came to light and Congress government didn’t do anything. Complete investigation, assessments and criminal proceedings have now been undertaken against one and all of the accused. Taxes are being collected and criminal proceedings going on,” he said. He said similar steps were being taken with respect to the information of about the 628 HSBC accounts of Indians. Some 500525 people have been traced, assessment orders passed and criminal cases filed against 150 persons. As regards the third round of expose -- again by the ICIJ -- Jaitley said assessments were being done on that and 52 prosecutions have been filed till date.
NEWS DIGEST IIT annual fees hiked to Rs.200,000 NEW DELHI: The annual fee for undergraduate courses in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) has been hiked from Rs.90,000 to Rs.2 lakh per annum, official sources said. 26 dead in Kolkata flyover collapse IANS, KOLKATA
T
he toll in flyover collapse rose to 26 with two more bodies recovered on April 2 , even as political slugfest over the city’s worst flyover tragedy heightened with the opposition sharpening its attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress, two days ahead of the first round of assembly elections. Rescuers pulled out two decomposed bodies two days after the under-construction Vivekananda Road Flyover in north Kolkata’s market area Posta collapsed, crushing people and flattening vehicles. At least 90 people were injured in the accident of which several are still admitted in various hospitals. Tightening the screws against the Hyderabad-based IVRCL Infrastructure, which was execut-
ing the project, police arrested one more of its officials Tanmay Sil, taking the total of number of arrests to four. Bringing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy among other offences, police, which have constituted a special investigation team (SIT), had on Friday night arrested the company’s senior assistant general manager M. Mallikarjun, structural manager Pradip Kumar and assistant manager (administration) D. Majumdar. The trio on the day was remanded to police custody by a city court. Besides sealing off the companys’ city offices, a Kolkata police team also visited its headquarters in Hyderabad. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi visited the collapse site and also interacted with the injured at a city hospital. Later addressing his maiden rally for the assembly polls in Niyamatpur of Burdwan district, he hit out
at the Trinamool describing the collapsed flyover as a “symbol of the state of affairs in West Bengal”. Accusing the West Bengal chief minister of indulging in politics over the dead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 7 said the Kolkata flyover tragedy was “god’s message” to people to save Bengal from the Trinamool Congress.

Bringing about positive change ANKUSH VATS, NEW DELHI
A
s India strives to achieve greater gender equality, in a remote village in Odisha a community radio is striving to bring about positive change — breaking an agesold taboo that women should not work in betel vine fields. Pradeepta Kumar Dutta, a local activist started his lone battle last year against the belief that women should not work in betel vine fields due to menstruation. He launched his community radio station ‘Radio Kisaan’, which helped bring about welcome changes. “Women in most parts of Odisha are not allowed to enter
betel vine fields owing to centuries-old belief that menstruating women will damage the crop. Hence, the entry of all women is banned in the fields,” Dutta told IANS. He has won several awards for successfully using community radio as a tool to bring about social change, including two awards at the recently-concluded sixth National Community Radio Sammelann held in New Delhi. His radio programme - ‘Eei Ama Adhikar’ (This Is My Right) took on the taboo. “Through the programme we tried to raise awareness about participation of women so that they can earn their own livelihood and not be dependent on male mem-
A community radio in Odisha is taking on an agesold old taboo associated with women and has become a key tool to bring about social change

bers of the family,” Dutta said. Radio Kisaan, active in the Balipatna Block of Khurda district in Odisha, was started five years ago. Betel vine is cultivated in the coastal region of Odisha on a very large scale and a farmer engaged in the production of betel vine can easily earn around Rs.15,000 to Rs.20,000 per month. “Initially, I faced resistance from locals as if I was committing a sin. But it was a century-old belief, and I knew it was not going to be easy.
Therefore, I engaged agricultural scientists who explained that the betel crop is not damaged by menstruating women, but is damaged by infertile or poor soil. They clarified that menstruation has no role to play in spoiling the betel farms. I am happy that a social change has started to come in and women are coming out to work in betel vine fields,” Dutta told IANS. Radio Kisaan was primarily launched to inform farmers about the various government schemes in
agriculture which could not reach them due to lack of communication channels. “I believe women are equally capable of participating in the economic development of the country. ‘Eei Ama Adhikar’ was a step in the same direction. If small problems like these are tackled, then I believe the country as a whole can progress,” Dutta said, adding that he would make programmes on health-related issues soon.
Going nuts in Manipur and Assam over chewing habits IBOYAIMA LAITHANGBAM, IMPHAL
T
here had always been a love-hate relationship between Ahom and Kangleipak kingdoms, the old names of Assam and Manipur. They went to war numerous times. But there were also tales of bonhomie. On one occasion, after a Manipuri princess was married to an Assamese prince, the king of Manipur decreed an entire village to emigrate to Assam so that his daughter would not feel lonely in the new land where language, culture and social practices were different. Villagers in Manipur also migrated to Assam when marauding invaders from Burma (now Myanmar) and China struck. Others often left for economic and personal reasons. One fallout of this migration was that Manipuris adopted the
Many Assamese people like to chew betel nut after every meal or otherwise.
Assamese habit of eating tamul (betel nut), which then seeped into the society in Manipur. Now the society is grappling with the changing habits of Manipuris, as far as the nut and leaves are concerned. Cut into six fine pieces the betel nuts are put on betel leaves which in turn are placed on two layers of
plantain leaves. This offering became indispensable for religious and social functions. Apart from offering to the Gods and Goddesses, shrines or temples, each guest coming for a wedding, or even a death ceremony, is offered the betel nuts and leaves. In Assam, the nut is eaten raw.
But the Manipuris, who call it kwa, often dump the arecanut in pits for several days to soften it, known as kom kwa. To meet the widespread practice, several truckloads of betel nuts and leaves used to arrive in Manipur from Assam. The climate in Manipur is not conducive to grow the plant, except in a limited form in some areas bordering Assam. In Imphal, there are several wholesale shops. Every market and every village had kiosks with women vendors selling skinned or unskinned betel nuts, leaves and lime. Most of the elderly persons are hooked on to the habit of chewing it throughout the day. As a result, traders in both the states thrived and farmers in Assam got better returns. But the habit of consuming paan has undergone a change. Triggered by intervention of militants, and attraction of tobacco laced sweet-laced leaves (mitha-
patti paan), the practice of chewing has undergone a transformation, which in turn has brought about an upheaval in the market. When truckloads of the areca nuts and leaves from Assam used to travel along NH37 to Manipur, the militants -- of whom there are groups galore -- found it lucrative to extract their pound of flesh in the form of “taxes.” To evade this illegal levy, the truckers would try to move with army convoys. But then they found many of their trucks torched or pushed down deep gorges by the militants. As a response, perhaps, the Manipur market was practically invaded by the tobacco-laced leaves, called “mitha patti” brought by air freight from Kolkata and other airports. Health specialists say the incidence of cancer, because of the tobacco-lacing, is exceptionally high in Manipur.

‘Panama Papers’ link global politicians to offshore deals Likely to be the biggest leak of inside information in history, the Panama Papers expose some of the world’s most prominent people including over 500 Indians IANS, WASHINGTON/NEW DELHI
Iceland PM resigns over leaks
A
new investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and more than 100 news organizations around the globe reveals the offshore links of some of the planet’s most prominent people. The list included over 500 Indians. “In terms of size, the Panama Papers is likely the biggest leak of inside information in history -more than 11.5 million documents - and it is equally likely to be one of the most explosive in the nature of its revelations,” the consortium said of its investigation published on April 4. In India, The Indian Express ran several pages of the investigation reports alleging among other names that Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai were directors in companies in Panama. However, Aishwarya Rai’s media adviser told the paper that the information was false. In 2004, India legally allowed investments abroad by companies, and later individuals, through the Liberalized Remittance Scheme. According to the ICIJ, “the leak
India vows action against N-terrorism WASHINGTON: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to develop and deploy technology to defend against nuclear terrorism as President Barack Obama called on global leaders to jointly confront the growing threat of the Islamic State. He made the pledge on April 1 at the conclusion of a two-day Nuclear Security Summit that brought 50 world leaders to Washington to discuss how to prevent terrorists and other non state actors from gaining access to nuclear materials. India, he said at the plenary session, will continue to accord a high national priority to nuclear security through strong institutional framework, independent regulatory agency and trained and specialized manpower. He also asserted that India will counter nuclear smuggling and strengthen the national detection architecture for nuclear and radioactive material with a dedicated counter-nuclear smuggling team.

Parts of the world off-limits for nukes: Obama IANS, WASHINGTON
U
S President Barack Obama said that global efforts to improve nuclear security have removed from circulation material equivalent to 150 nuclear weapons, safeguarding it from extremists. “That’s material that will never fall into the hands of terrorists,” Obama said at a news conference on April 1 during the closing of the two-day Nuclear Security Summit, here. The summit, the final of four Obama has held during his presidency since 2010, drew over 50 leaders from around the world to discuss ways to prevent the use of nuclear weapons and better secure nuclear materials, especially from the threat of nuclear terrorism, CNN reported. “As terrorists and criminal gangs and arms merchants look around for deadly ingredients for a nuclear device, vast regions of the world are now off-limits, and that’s a remark-

able achievement,” Obama said, admitting that much work remains. Obama cited progress in making large parts of the world free of nuclear materials. South America had already achieved this, and Central Europe and South East Asia were expected to do so later this
year. “Together, we have removed the world’s most deadly materials from nuclear facilities around the world,” he said. Despite these gains, Obama said the Indian subcontinent and the Korean peninsula were areas where
more could be done to combat proliferation. Obama said the work done by leaders who gathered from around the globe to discuss nuclear security would help reduce the chances of terrorist groups getting their hands on a nuclear weapon. “No terrorist group has yet succeeded in getting their hands on a nuclear device. Our work here will help ensure that we’re doing everything possible to prevent that,” Obama said, adding “This is a threat to us all.” The ongoing challenge, Obama told his counterparts, is to prevent groups like the Islamic State (IS), which have sought nuclear material, from obtaining it or any weapon of mass destruction. At the opening of the summit on April 1, Obama said the summit’s work -- mostly done quietly behind the scenes in the months between high profile gatherings -- served the crucial purpose of reducing the chances that nuclear materials could be stolen.

he large number of Indian blue collar workers in Saudi Arabia on April 2 came in for much appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the hard work they have put in for the development of the Gulf kingdom. “It is your sweat and toil that has brought me here,” Modi, said while addressing workers of Indian engineering and infrastructure major L&T at their residential complex. “Your happiness is my happiness and when you are not happy, I also feel the pain,” he said. Modi told the workers that India
has the kind of manpower that the world needed today. “When in the times to come, people will see the work you have done, you will realize the importance of your efforts,” he said. The prime minister also told the workers that they have made India proud for the discipline they have shown in their work. He assured the workers that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the entire team of officials at the ministry were ready to help if any of them got into any trouble. He also highlighted the various steps taken by his government for the convenience of Indian workers abroad. “There are forums like

WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of change in Tier-2 visa rules with his British counterpart David Cameron during a bilateral meeting here on the sidelines of the Fourth Nuclear Security Summit. “Prime minister also raised the issue of Tier-2 visas for ICT companies,” external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said at a media briefing following the meeting on April 1. “He said that skilled professionals should not find it difficult to come to work in the UK,” Swarup informed the media.

Under a new rule, skilled professionals holding Tier-2 visas face deportation from Britain after five years if they cannot prove annual earnings of 35,000 pounds (nearly $50,000). Earlier, a Tier-2 visa holder could apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in Britain with a annual income of around 21,000 pounds. The new rule comes into effect on April 6 and is likely to affect thousands of Indian skilled professionals. In this context, Modi told Cameron that the recommendations made by the migration advisory committee could cast a negative light and a solution needed to be found.
India has once again given rise to new expectations at the world stage,” he said in a short speech. Apart from a large number of blue collar workers, Indian doctors, teachers, engineers and managers have made immense contributions to Saudi Arabia’s development, something that has been appreciated by the country’s rulers on numerous occasions. Indians in Saudi Arabia make an important contribution to their homeland sending around $10 billion in remittances every year. It was the first prime ministerial visit from India to the oil-rich Gulf kingdom since the visit of Manmohan Singh in 2010.
Indian-American Sikh officer granted religious rights IANS, WASHINGTON
A
n Indian-American Sikh military officer in US has been granted permission to wear a religious beard and turban while in uniform, the media reported. The US Army’s decision to the make permanent religious accommodation for Capt. Simratpal Singh makes him the first activeduty combat soldier in decades to be permitted to wear a turban and beard, www.nydailynews.com reported on April 1. The ruling ended the protracted battle that pitted individual religious freedom rights against what the military said was a need for uniformity and strict safety standards. “My two worlds are one again… I can fully serve my country exactly the way I want to and still be a full Sikh the way I want to be,”
Captain Simratpal Singh
reported nydailynews.com. Singh, 28, an observant Sikh had to cut his hair and shave his beard when he joined the West Point military academy in 2006.
“It was excruciating. For 18 years of your life, you’ve had a certain image of yourself. All of a sudden, it’s shattered within 10 minutes,” Singh was quoted as saying.
Ten years later, Singh, now an Army Ranger and Bronze Star Medal recipient, in a bid to reclaim that image asked the US Army in October to allow him to begin wearing a beard and turban. Facing a discrimination lawsuit, the Army granted him a temporary accommodation in December. In February, with the temporary accommodation set to expire, the Army insisted Captain Singh to undergo extensive testing to make sure his beard and hair wouldn’t interfere with his helmet or gas mask. Singh filed suit citing religious discrimination. A judge ruled that the Army couldn’t impose the individualized testing on Singh and ordered the service to decide on his request by March 31. On Thursday, in a court ruling Singh was finally granted a permanent accommodation.
“Because of the Army’s strong interest in maintaining good order and discipline, the Army intends to develop clear, uniform standards applicable to soldiers who have received religious accommodation,” Debra S. Wada, the assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs, wrote in a memo to the captain released on Friday. Until those standards are in place, she said, Captain Singh will be expected to appear in a “neat and conservative” manner with a black or camouflage turban. Singh, who grew up in Punjab, immigrated to the US at the age of nine after his father was granted political asylum in the country. His grandfather often regaled him with tales of fighting in World War I as a soldier in the British Indian Army, which instilled in him the desire to join the military.

Flame continues to burn bright
Beginning on April 6 in Athens 120 years ago, modern Olympics has grown from strength to strength to become the greatest show on earth AJEYO BASU, NEW DELHI
I
t was on April 6 that the “greatest show on earth”, the modern Olympics, opened in Athens 120 years ago to a ringing cry from Baron Pierre de Coubertin that the important thing in the games was not winning but participating. That might seem a misnomer in today’s day and age, but the spirit still endures. Quite appropriately, Internet search engine Google on April 6 reproduced a few doodles of the events that featured, bringing alive a bygone era. The 1896 Olympics, held from April 6-15 in the Panathenaic Stadium, saw 241 male athletes from 14 countries competing in nine sports -- tennis, fencing, weightlifting, track and field, cycling, shooting, swimming, wrestling and gymnastics. Intended to revive the tradition of the ancient Olympics which began over 2,700 years ago in Olympia, in southwest Greece, the Athens Games were hugely popular all over Europe. Since then, the quadrinniel, multi-discipline extravaganza has
Rio’s Olympic Park almost ready RIO DE JANEIRO: The Olympic Park facilities here are practically ready four months before the inauguration of South America’s first Olympic Games, announced Roberto Ainbinder, the director of projects for the Municipal Olympic Company. In a news conference with foreign correspondents within the Park on April 4, Ainbinder confirmed that 98 percent of the construction work has been finished. He also added that now the main concern of the municipal authorities has shifted towards how the city will operate during the sporting event, reports Xinhua. Located in the Barra da Tujica region, the Olympic Park covers an area of 1.18 million square meters and includes the Cariocas Arenas (1, 2 and 3), the Future Arena which will house the basketball tournament and paralympic sports, the aquatic stadium, the Velodrome and the tennis center.

Australia to set up football programme in India IANS, CANBERRA
A
ustralia’s football federation has announced a collaboration with the Australian government to provide a number of football-based grassroots development programmes in India. On the back of a number of successful programmes implemented in the Oceanic region, The Football Federation Australia (FFA) and the Australian government will try to replicate the programmes in the Indian state of Kerala, reports Xinhua. The FFA has said it had held talks with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Sports Authority of India to secure access to national facilities in the event that the programme expands beyond the state of Kerala. According to Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, the “Just Play” programme will encourage young children to take up football as a way to forge positive social
relationships and encourage a healthy lifestyle. “The objective of the program is to give children aged six to 12 years a positive first experience with football while also teaching lessons about important social issues, such as gender equality and sanitation,” Bishop said in a statement on Wednesday. “Just Play” is a joint venture
between the Australian government, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), Unicef and UEFA Foundation. FFA has been an official partner since the programme was inaugurated in 2009.’ Bishop said the program’s success in Oceanic nations means the template should also be a great success in India. “The programme has helped
over 200,000 children in Oceania learn football skills along with valuable health and well-being lessons. I look forward to making the same positive impact in Kerala,” she said. FFA chief executive David Gallop said the “Just Play” programme demonstrates positive role that football can play in young peoples’ lives. He said the programme would also deliver Australian international aid across the Asian nation. “Combining football with an educational agenda is a compelling way to engage with vulnerable children. It’s a way that football is Australia’s bridge to Asia and beyond,” Gallop said. “The ‘Just Play’ programme has a proven record over the past seven years and I’m sure that FFA’s expertise in coaching and development, supported by the Australia Government’s funding, will produce very worthwhile outcomes in India.”

With hard work and guidance from Kamlesh Nanavaty in Ahmedabad, he continued to grab local attention and quickly went on to State and National level competitions. Nanavaty was full of praise for his student when he spoke with me over the phone from India. His comments were full of support and confidence for Neil. Nanavaty, who is the secretary of Swimming Federation of India, while admiring Neil’s talent, mentioned, “I am 100% confident in Neil’s ability to make it to the Olympics. He has tremendous work ethics. I have trained him for the past ten years and he has constantly improved in his swimming talent”. He was highly appreciative of the guidance from Nanavaty. His best moments, when away from the pool, are reserved for his black Labrador--Buddy. Based on his current training schedule, Neil Contractor is aiming to achieve an “A” qualifying standard time that no Indian swimmer has ever achieved. This would guarantee him a spot in the Indian team. Neil’s coach in India is extremely confident about his chances to qualify for the upcoming Olympics. Vijaykant said in a statement that he had expelled propaganda secretary V.C. Chandrakumar, a legislator, and district leaders with immediate effect for acting in a way that defamed the party. The expulsion came soon after Chandrakumar and the others addressed the media demanding that the DMDK must align with the DMK and end its alliance with the four-party People’s Welfare

In a statement here, the ED said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered four charge sheets against T.S. Anantharaj Stephen, Franklin Samuelraj Toney and D.R. Naik for cheating Canara Bank to the tune of Rs.14.5 crore and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Rs.2.55 crore. The ED took up the investigation as it appeared to be a case of money laundering. According to the ED, the accused, Anantharaj Stephen, impersonating tennis player Ashok Amritraj, opened an account with Canara Bank and colluding with bank officials, he encashed a fixed deposit worth Rs.7 crore. In another instance, the accused, colluding with bank officials, diverted Rs.8 crore belonging to Vysarpad Vinayaka Mudaliar Charities to two companies floated by him. Further impersonating the directors of Gokulam Chit Funds, the accused cheated IOB to the tune of Rs.2.55 crore. Solar scam: No CBI probe against Chandy IANS, KOCHI
T
he Kerala High Court on April 4 came down heavily over wastage of its time, and dismissed a plea by prime accused Saritha Nair for a CBI probe against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the solar panel scam case. While hearing the plea, Justice B. Kamal Pasha said there were a lot of other cases that merited a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation. “The court is not interested in playing politics when the elections are round the corner,” said the judge, and asked the parties not to waste the court’s time.
This setback for Nair comes a day after a news channel claimed to have with it a copy of a letter from
her that said Chandy sexually abused her. Nair has also accused Chandy of taking bribes to promote her solar panel business. Stating that he was mulling legal action over the disclosures, Chandy told reporters at his official residence here that it was “rather strange” that the solar panel scam was still surfacing even after three years. “I am working on steps to go forward with legal measures on this. We feel this is a conspiracy and there is a mighty cash rich lobby behind these new disclosures,” the chief minister said.
Nair appeared on the Asianet News channel on Sunday and said she had written the 24-page letter in 2013. While agreeing to the contents, she refused to discuss them. Former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan on April 4 sought a fresh probe into the disclosures made in Nair’s letter. “Chandy should apologize and come clean,” Achuthanandan told reporters in Kochi. The solar panel scam case surfaced when Nair and her live-in partner Biju Radhakrishnan were arrested in 2013 on charges of cheating numerous investors who paid money for solar panels.

rotests erupted again on and outside the campus of Hyderabad Central University on April 6 with a section of students sticking to their demand for removal of vice chancellor P. Appa Rao. There were clashes between protesters and security personnel at the main gate as activists of various students and youth organizations marched to the campus and tried to barge in to demand lifting of restrictions on entry of activists, students and others into the campus. Raising slogans against the vice chancellor, the protesters climbed on the gate and tried to push their way into the campus as police and

university security personnel resisted. Holding banners and placards,
the activists of SFI, PDSU and AIDSO staged a noisy protest, triggering tension.
Terming this as unlawful assembly, police from Cyberabad, by displaying a banner, warned the protesters to disperse. Policemen were seen dragging protesters to waiting vans and taking them away. The protest was in response to the “Chalo HCU” called by the Joint Action Committee for Social Justice, an umbrella group of various students’ organizations to condemn police excesses on students and continued lockdown of the campus since Rao’s return as vice chancellor. Inside the campus, the JAC members staged a protest outside the VC Lodge, where Appa Rao was presiding over the meeting of the Academic Council.

Life comes full circle with ‘Theri’ for Sunaina Actress Sunaina, who plays an important role in upcoming Tamil actioner Theri, says life has come full circle IANS, CHENNAI
A
ctress Sunaina, who plays an important role in forthcoming Tamil actioner Theri, says life has come full circle with the opportunity to share screen space with superstar Vijay, who had launched the audio of her debut Tamil film. “I play a fun role in ‘Theri’, but I don’t like to talk about it much. It was nice working with Vijay sir, and it was special because he launched the audio of my first Tamil film Kadhalil Vizhunthen, so it felt like completing a cycle,” Sunaina told IANS. About the experience of working with Vijay, she said: “He’s very humble and friendly. It was on the sets of ‘Theri’ that I spoke to him for the first time. He told me that he knows that I’m a good dancer, and it felt good coming from a star.” Sunaina also has Tamil romantic-comedy “Kavalai Vendam” in her kitty, besides a Telugu project. “Nearly 60 percent of Kavali Vendam is done. I’m paired with Jiiva, and I play a girl madly in love

My wife got more praises for ‘Thozha’: Nagarjuna IANS, CHENNAI
A
ctor Akkineni Nagarjuna said that his wife Amala’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the release of his TamilTelugu bilingual Thozhaa, an adaptation of French drama The Intouchables. “People who couldn’t reach me have reached out to my wife and have passed on the appreciation for the film. The success has proved that not all good films are art films,” Nagarjuna said here on the sidelines of film’s thanks meet. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, the film also starred Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia. Nagarjuna also said that he’s happy that Tamil audiences have accepted his effort to dub in his own voice. “It was Karthi who insisted that I dub for the Tamil version. I’m glad it paid off and audiences have wholeheartedly appreciated my effort,” he said. Thanking the entire team of Thozha, which also released in Telugu as Oopiri, Nagarjuna said he
clocked a decade in the industry. “I started quite young, and I was clueless and scared. Even though I had a lot of theatre experience, things were a lot of different in cinema. I wasn’t comfortable for the first few years and it was only after my first Kannada project, I started liking what I was doing,” she said.
CHENNAI: Costume designer and stylist Komal Shahani, who has worked with Tamil superstar Vijay for the third time in forthcoming Tamil actioner Theri, says the actor has rocked each of the three different avatars he has sported in the film. “Vijay sir has this ability to easily mould into any look, and he does that with panache. In Theri, he sports three different looks, which he pulled off so comfortably, while giving me all the freedom to experiment,” Shahani, who had previously worked in Vijay’s Thuppakki and Jilla, told IANS. In Atlee-directed Theri, Vijay plays a police officer and he will also be seen as a doting father. “For his police look, I customized and tailored the shirts that go with Canali pants. In the father’s role, he
will be seen in much softer colours,” she said, assuring that a legion of Vijay’s fans are going to love the different looks in the film. “For every scene featuring Vijay sir, I had designed a look. There was never going back and forth on deciding any look, because most of the time he liked what I chose and was equally willing to create a new trend,” she said, and added that Vijay’s sunglasses will be the trend-setting element of the movie, which hits the screens worldwide on April 14. “All the sunglasses were imported, and we used brands like Oliver Peoples, Ray-Ban and Ferrari, besides handmade reflectors from Spain. I travelled a lot, shopped in places like Los Angeles and Spain, to put together the right look for each avatar,” she said.
No Deepika Padukone in ‘Baahubali 2’ CHENNAI: Actress Deepika Padukone is not part of the second instalment of the Baahubali franchise, contrary to some reports, a source said. “Even we were surprised when we came across this news. It’s just a rumor, which we don’t even know how it was circulated in the first place,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS. The film’s director S.S Rajamouli is
currently busy shooting some important portions of the film in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. Prabhas and Anushka Shetty have also already joined the sets, while Rana Dagubatti will join from May, after he wraps up Hindi-Telugu bilingual Ghazi. Tipped to be even more majestic than the first part, the film is likely to hit the screens on April 14 next year.

P will miss working with Karthi. On a concluding note, both Karthi and Nagarjuna said that they’re ready for Thozha 2.
rabhudheva turned a year older on April 3 with a quiet lunch with his two sons who had flown in from Chennai to Mumbai. “They were here, as it was a April 3 and flew back on Sunday afternoon in time for their school on Monday,” Prabhudheva said. The actor-dancer-choreographer-filmmaker has been busy with his trilingual acting assignment in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. He started shooting for the film in January and has taken time off from direction. “I did act in Remo D’Souza’s ABCD 2 last year. But it has been a
while since I faced the camera in Tamil or Telugu. I’ve been busy directing films. I took three months off to act in this film,” he said. He says he had no choice. “I wanted a hero who didn’t
charge money. I was the only one willing to do this film for free, since I am the co-producer.” Prabhudheva says he was enthused to face the camera for this three-language film for its uniqueness. “For the first time, the director, Vijay attempted the horrorcomedy genre in Hindi cinema. We haven’t really done a horror-comedy in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.” Prabhudheva had a different team working with him on each of the three versions. So enthused is Prabhudheva by his multilingual on-camera experience that he now intends to direct a film in Tamil or Telugu.

Mix of Bollywood, sports in ‘Panama Papers’ expose A report by The Indian Express newspaper says Kareena, Karisma and Saif Ali Khan held stakes in a 10-member sports consortium formed to bid for IPL Pune franchise IANS, NEW DELHI
Amitabh Bachchan denies links with ‘Panama Papers’ firms
A
consortium that unsuccessfully bid for an Indian Premier League franchise -- which included actors Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor, industrialist Venugupal Dhoot’s firms and Punebased realtors Chordia family -- had investments by an offshore company. Stating this in its latest “Panama Papers” expose, The Indian Express on April 7 reported that 10 members had entered into a pact to form P-Vision Sports to bid for IPL Pune franchise, in which 15 percent was earmarked for the offshore firm, Obdurate Ltd in British Virgin Islands. It was shut after failing to win the bid, the newspaper said. In the sports consortium, the largest stake of 33 percent was held by the Chordia family, 4.5 percent each by Kareena and Karisma, 9 percent each by Saif and Mumbai resident Manoj S. Jain and 25 percent by Dhoot through two group companies. Obdurate was earmarked 15 percent. Dhoot said he was concerned only with the 25 percent in P-Vision sports and did not know of Obdurate, while Atul Chordia said his group always owned 100 percent of the sports company and that the offshore entity never held any share in it. As regards others, the newspaper
Salman tells court he was not driving NEW DELHI: Bollywood star Salman Khan has told the Supreme Court that he was not driving his Toyota Land Cruiser when it killed a man in MumSalman Khan bai in 2002 but police were trying to implicate him in the case. Claiming that his driver Ashok Singh was at the wheels, Salman said in an affidavit filed on March 17 that the prosecution had failed to produce a single witness or a photograph showing that he was driving it.

MUMBAI: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on April 5 denied links with any of the offshore shipping companies in which he is supposed to be a director according to the leaked “Panama Papers”. “I do not know any of the companies referred to by Indian Express Sea Bulk Shipping Company Ltd, Lady Shipping Ltd, Treasure Shipping Ltd and Tramp Shipping Ltd,” the actor said in a statement. “I have never been a director of any of the above stated companies,” he said. “It is possible that my name has been misused.”
Amitabh added: “I have paid all my taxes, including on monies spent by me overseas. Monies that I have remitted overseas have been in compliance with law, including remittances through LRS, after paying Indian taxes. “In any event the news report in Indian Express does not even suggest any illegality on my part,” he said.
Express had another story with a sports link: That Lokesh Sharma, managing director of sports management major Twenty First Century Media, has two companies of his own registered in the tax haven of British Virgin Islands. The third is a subsidiary of the sports company. Sharma told the Express that while a company in British Virgin Islands, Margarita Services, was intended to be acquired through an overseas solicitor, he neither proceeded on the matter, nor did he receive any share of the company operated or managed by the entity. As regards another firm, Mardi Gras Holdings,
he said he has been complying with relevant Indian laws and that the tax returns for the same for the year ended March 31, 2016 were not due yet. In the third entity, Peppermint Management, Sharma said he was compliant and Reserve Bank of India was informed. The newspaper has been carrying the stories as part of a global expose of International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and over 100 global media organizations, dubbed the “Panama Papers”, based on millions of leaked documents of a Panama law firm Mossak Fonseca.
Pratyusha suicide: Boyfriend booked for abetment IANS, MUMBAI
P
olice here on April 5 registered a case against actor-producer Rahulraj Singh for allegedly abetting the suicide of popular TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee following a statement from her mother Soma Banerjee, an official said. Police in Bangur Nagar, who are probing the case, registered the first information report (FIR) after Soma Banerjee implicated Rahulraj for her daughter’s suicide, said Mumbai police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni. Among other things, she accused Rahulraj of allegedly assaulting Pratyusha, but his (Rahulraj’s) lawyer said they would challenge it

in the Bombay High Court. Rahulraj -- who was interrogated by police for two days after Pratyusha’s suicide on April 1 -- is presently undergoing treatment in a suburban hospital for the past two days. Police have
sought a report on his health status and he is likely to be arrested after his discharge from hospital in a day or so, although his lawyers point out that he was not in a condition fit for interrogation.
Police have charged Rahulraj with abetment of suicide, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Since Pratyusha’s death, her friends, colleagues and television industry workers have claimed that one of the reasons behind her suicide was the alleged rocky relationship with her boyfriend. At least 10 of them have come forward to give statements pertaining to the tumultuous relationship between Pratyusha and Rahulraj, allegations of assault, unconfirmed financial issues between them and reported torture of Pratyusha by a former girlfriend of Rahulraj.

BY A STAFF WRITER HICAGO, IL -- Showcasing the Holi festival by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) heralds a cultural phenomenon for the Indian American community, which is associated more with academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirits. The softer side of the diverse Indian culture was aesthetically purveyed without the religious overtones at DuPage County Fairgrounds. The festival of color and spring certainly sparkled animated gaiety among the organizers, performers, sponsors, and thousands of ebullient spectators. Sunil Shah, FIA founder president, certainly felt gratified because he pulled all the stops to bring large sponsors to fund this exhilarating event. “By organizing Holi as a cultural icon, we promote the ambience of togetherness, mutual respect, happiness, and joy,” said Shah, who is also an inductee of the prestigious Premium President’s Council of New York Life. Dhitu Bhagwakar, current FIA president and CEO of several successful businesses and owner of Strike Ten Lanes, brought his entrepreneurial skills and networking talents to make this event a commercial success. On the other hand, Onkar Singh Sangha, FIA founder and past president, was busy in bringing in fans. Prominent local sponsors came out to grace the event. On hand were Syed Hussaini of Wintrust, Manish Gandhi of Power Plant Services, Dr. Asha Oroskar of Orochem, Brij Sharma, CEO of Power Volt. COMMUNITY NEWS Hanuman Jayanti fete by Sri Upasana soon
BY A STAFF WRITER EMONT, IL– Sri Upasana, a Chicago-based religious organization striving for spiritual ritual integration, has been celebrating the birthday of Hanuman for more than ten years. Hanuman--embodiment of devotion and having unimaginative super physical and intellectual power--is the most ardent devotee of Lord Ram and is known to have attained the state of Ajapa jaap with the Ram mantra. The celebration of Hanuman Jayanti is on April 22 evening at Rama Hall in HTGC temple, Lemont - IL. Devotees wishing to join in this celebration may contact by e-mailing at upasana@sriupasana.org. Ram Naam (rhythmic chanting of the word ‘Ram’) has been the core of the Hindu culture. Lord Sri Ram is regarded as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is the symbol of courtesy and virtue, and a man of values and morals. Lord Ram is an example of idealism, as he proved to mankind that he was an ideal son, brother, husband and the most ideal ruler. The word Ram is an embodiment of bliss and salvation. Ram mantra is considered to be “Taraka” mantra which provides guidance and helps to conquer material and spiritual obstacles for living happy life and attaining the ultimate goal of Moksha. A mantra is made of letters or words having powerful sound energy and its repeated utterance creates positive vibration within self and around. If one ties a small stone at the end of a rope and swings it to revolve then this small stone gets so powerful with kinetic energy. The mantra, if repeatedly chanted, can create a dynamic sound wavelength which can inspire one to aspire for anything. The amalgamating power of a mantra at the sound and mind level can become so prominent that

one can even assume divine qualities. The concept of Ajapa Jaap--a state of continuous subconscious chanting of mantra-can be achieved by setting smaller goals initially and increasing goals gradually thereby maximizing our potential. This is a state of mind where internally the name continues to resound even when one is in deep sleep or actively working. Chanting name an unlimited number of times leads to creation of ‘sacred space’ which throws away the ‘evil’ of the mind and body thus purifying the soul. This is a method of ‘sound’ bathing. The sound ‘Ram’ works as a creative sonic energy within and wipes out human weaknesses to strive for the attainment of enlightenment. Ram Naam can be taken by anybody, anytime, anywhere and in any physicalmental condition. By chanting just basic mantra ‘Ram’, a common man will get an attainable spiritual direction without dogmas or ritualistic worship. Or if you prefer, combine it with any other mantra or letters.

‘terrorist’, punished
Waleed Abushaaban
BY A STAFF WRITER OUSTON, TX -- A Houston school teacher accused of calling a Class 7 student a terrorist during a class discussion on India has been sent on leave following a demand for her ouster from the student’s family. The student, Waleed Abushaaban, who is of Middle Eastern descent, gave his input regarding the subject matter. Waleed Abushaaban was watching a movie with his class at First Colony Middle School in Houston, Texas, when it is claimed his teacher called him the offensive term. According to Waleed, he was laughing at the comedy, Bend It Like Beckham, when the teacher said, ‘I wouldn’t be laughing if I was you’. Abushaaban left the classroom and called his father. Standing in agreement with the family, Minister Quanell X has asked for cultural sensitivity training to be implemented and for the removal of that particular teacher. Earlier, the Abushaaban family demanded that the teacher be fired, and the school removed the English and Language Arts teacher from the classroom while it investigated the incident. However, Waleed’s family want her permanently dismissed. “Just because my son is a Muslim doesn’t mean he is a terrorist,” said Malek Abushaaban, Waleed’s father. “He’s an American. He’s as American as anybody else. He was born here… that’s all he knows is how to be an American.” The Abushaaban family says Waleed will stay enrolled at First Colony Middle School and, in addition to firing the teacher in question, would like religious sensitivity training for both students and teachers.

hether it is Rahul Mishra’s love for textile, ace designer Rohit Bal’s fascination with lotus motifs, young designer Dhruv Vaish’s eclectic mix of fabrics or brand Amrich’s mixing of modern with contemporary -- the summer-resort edition of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) 2016 witnessed some eye-catching trends, and a heavy dose of Bollywood star presence both on and off the runway. Returning after his triumphant show at Paris Fashion Week, International Woolmark Award Winner 2014, Mishra dazzled the audience with his fresh summer 2016 collection called ‘Knots of Love’ at the fashion gala, which concluded on Sunday. “Inspired by the patterns and designs that are seen on beautiful porcelain, I worked around them and then sprinkled the garments with ‘bandhani’. I also added to these fine crafts the centuries-old technique of draping and created a fine blend of handmade knowledge and detailing for the exquisite creations,” said the designer.

Another established designer, Arjun Saluja impressed fashionistas with art installations at the event, where multiple designers promoted use of Indian textile and handicrafts. “We used different mediums and perspective to tell the story, so the

Diabetes is preventable: Expert Maintaining a healthy weight through appropriate eating habits and following an active lifestyle is the key to prevent diabetes and also keep heart attack, stroke, and hypertension at bay RACHEL V. THOMAS, NEW DELHI
D
iabetes, a silent killer in the vast list of innumerable diseases especially associated with the urban population and the third leading risk factor for premature mortality after high blood pressure and tobacco use, is preventable, a top WHO official has said. "Yes, a large proportion of diabetes is preventable," WHO India representative Dr. Henk Bekedamtold IANS. "Rapid urbanisation, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet and increasing life expectancy are the factors for the rising prevalence of diabetes," Bekedam explained. The disease is characterized as a condition in which the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood is high and affects around 350 million
people worldwide. According to WHO, this number is likely to double within 20 years. “Maintaining a healthy weight through appropriate eating habits and following an active lifestyle is
Choir singing boosts immunity to fight cancer LONDON: Choir singing can be useful in fighting against deadly diseases, reveals a study adding that the group activity can help put people in the best possible position to receive treatment, maintain remission and support cancer patients According to researchers, singing in a choir for an hour is associated with significant reduction in stress hormones -- cortisol -- and increase in quantities of cytokines -- proteins of the immune system -- which can boost the body’s ability to fight serious illness. “We have been building a body of evidence over the past six years to show that singing in a choir can have a range of social, emotional and psychological benefits and now we can see it has biological effects too,” said study co-author Ian Lewis from Tenovus Cancer Care in Britain.
“This is the first time it’s been demonstrated that the immune system can be affected by singing. It’s really exciting and could enhance the way we support people with cancer in the future,” Lewis added in the paper published in the journal ecancermedicalscience. Choir members gave samples of their saliva before an hour of singing, and then again just after, to see what changes occurred in a number of hormones, immune proteins, neuropeptides and receptors. The results demonstrated that these can suppress immune activity, at a time when patients need as much support as they can get from their immune system. The findings suggested that singing activity could reduce some of this stress-induced suppression, helping to improve wellbeing.
the key to prevent diabetes and also keep other risk factors like heart attack, stroke, and hypertension at bay," Dr. Anoop Misra, executive chairman at the national capital's Fortis Hospital, told IANS.
Suggesting various measures, experts pointed out that maintaining the body mass index (BMI) is imperative. “The BMI of a person should range between 23-25, exceeding which, the vulnerability of a person to diabetes increases,” renowned dietician and nutritionist here Ritika Samaddar told IANS. Also, food consumed needs to be closely monitored. “It is advisable to cut down on the intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes and maida (flour),” Samaddar added. Foods high in monounsaturated fat -- good fat and a healthy alternative to the trans fats and refined polyunsaturated fats found in most processed foods -- should be highly preferred. “Oils such as canola oil, which has the least saturated fat than other culinary oils and is free of
trans fat and cholesterol are a good option,” Samaddar noted. Finally, following an active lifestyle is the need of the hour. Exercise not only manages weight and maintains the right BMI, but it also improves digestion. "Thirty minutes of aerobic physical activity (walking), 15 minutes of activity during work (5 minutes walk every 2-3 hours) and 10-15 minutes of strength training with small weights can keep diabetes under control," Misra stated. Diabetes is also associated with co-morbities like weight gain, obesity, hypertension and heart disease risk. Blood glucose levels can be reduced through medication and lifestyle changes. Maintaining a disciplined life, awareness about the disease and the preventive drugs are key instrument to prevent and control diabetes.
Meditation may help teens eat healthy IANS, NEW YORK
A
team of US researchers has found that easy mediation lessons can help adolescents combat obesity by raising their awareness of healthy eating and exercising. The findings showed that mindfulness-based eating awareness training encouraged teens to eat healthier and exercise more and marginalized their tendency to gain weight. “This gives us a safe, inexpensive intervention that could be translated into a real-world program for overweight kids,” said Vernon A. Barnes from Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in the US.
“If you can make a practice of keeping the awareness with you at every meal, this could benefit you throughout your life,” Barnes added in a paper published in the International Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The study of 40 adolescents looked at the impact of mindfulness approaches on the diet, exercise and eating behavior of ninth-grade teens, which continued 12-week sessions of mindfulness intervention. The majority of the adolescents were overweigh; most had bad eating habits and most were black. Intervention started with easier
techniques such as breathing awareness meditation, where students focus on the movement of their diaphragm as a way to learn to pay more attention to their bodies. The results suggested that the intervention group consumed a healthier diet - lower fat and calories and also reported a decrease in perceived hunger.

There’s another aspect to ozone therapy. “It is also used for the treatment of both oily and acne skin and also reduces inflammation,” Dr. Chiranjiv Chabbra, a dermatologist at the national capital’s Skin Alive Clinic, told IANS. “It’s 100 percent natural with zero chemicals and zero side effects,”Chabbra added.
