However, if the Congress has quietly gulped the virtual insult, the reason is that the heir apparent’s diatribes have begun to sound rehearsed, an impression which was confirmed by the fact that Rahul has begun to look rather too frequently at a written script. He doesn’t quite read from it as his mother does, but in a country used to its leaders making extempore speeches, a prepared discourse does not have the same effect as an impromptu delivery. The Congress vice-president also has to realize that more than anger, it is humor and mockery which draw cheers. No one demonstrated this oratorical aptitude more than Kanhaiya Kumar, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader, whose speech at the campus following his release from jail has

overshadowed what was said in parliament. Kanhaiya is likely to prove to be a more dangerous opponent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the near future than almost all the other present-day opposition politicians since he reflects Arvind Kejriwal’s chutzpah without the latter’s baggage of a querulous nature and a less than shining record in governance.

If he is unwilling or unable to do so, Kanhaiya’s charge that every tactical and strategic move of the Hindutva camp is manipulated by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will begin to ring true. It is not without reason that the RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwat, has chosen this moment to say that everyone should be encouraged to chant Bharat Mata ki jai, a favorite slogan of the ABVP and the saffron camp. The confrontation between the former chaiwallah and the student from a poor family in Bihar will be widely watched inside and outside the country.

Nualgi: A wonder product to save Bengaluru lake IANS, BENGALURU

novel product developed by Nualgi Nano Biotech (NNB), a low-profile biotech company here, is helping clean up sewage-polluted Ulsoor Lake where thousands of fish were found dead last week owing to depletion of dissolved oxygen. Ulsoor Lake, famous for army rowing competitions as well as for boating among tourists, was seen covered with thousands of dead fish that left people here stunned. “Called Nualgi, it is a mixture of micro-nutrients in the form of nano-particles including silica, iron and manganese,” said Thothathri Sampathkumar, who founded the company which patented the product in India in 2008. “‘Nualgi’ triggers the rapid growth of a type of algae called ‘diatoms’ and the oxygen released by the diatoms through photosynthesis quickly increases the dissolved oxygen level of water and thus keeps the pond clean,” Sampathkumar told IANS. According to Sampathkumar, one kg of Nualgi can treat four million litres of water, adding that the affected fishermen — who have the contract for fishing in Ulsoor lake - have purchased 40 litres of “Nualgi” from his company on March 6 to increase the dissolved oxygen level and stop further fish death. “We can see the results very soon,” added Sampathkumar. “Nualgi can be used to grow “diatom” algae in any water including sewage polluted water. The growing “diatoms” absorb

carbon dioxide from the air and, by photosynthesis, release oxygen at the micro plant level. The oxygen released helps aerobic bacteria breakdown organics in the water into base constituents, thereby eliminating the stinking odour from the water. here is no news of the Catholic priest from Kerala who was taken away by unidentified gunmen following March 4 attack on a care home of the elderly in Yemen’s Aden, run by the Missionaries of Charity, that left four nuns dead, said an aide of Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Speaking to IANS, the official who is keeping in touch with Keralites in Yemen said the mother superior of the home, Sister Sally, had a narrow escape when the gunmen opened fire at the care home. “The priest Tom Kuzhuvennal, who hails from Kottayam district, has been taken away by these unidentified gunmen who opened fire, while Sally was moved to a safe place in the convent by the local people there after hearing the

gun shots,” said the official. “We are in close touch with our people in Yemen who are closely following the developments there,” added the official.

In the gunfire, four nuns of the Missionaries of Charity, including one from India, were killed. The Indian nun has been identified as Sister M. Anseleme, 57, from

Jharkhand. Of the other three nuns, two were from Rwanda and another from Kenya. The home, set up by Mother Teresa in 1992, houses 61 elderly

While the technology has been successfully developed, the motor needs to be scaled down to the required diameter — the size of a nickel, the researchers said. “About 1,500 children are born every year with a missing ventricle,” Rodefeld said. “The numbers sound low, but it’s actually the fifth most common problem in those with heart issues,” Rodefeld said. By having half a heart, essentially the body is missing half of its pumping ability to oxygenate blood and circulate it to stay alive. Currently, the best solution is a

he International Cricket Council (ICC) on March 9 relocated the India vs Pakistan group stage World T20 match, to be played on March 19, from Dharamsala to Kolkata citing security reasons. ICC CEO Dave Richardson announced the decision at a press conference here. The match will be played at the historic Eden Gardens ground where the final of the tournament will also be held. Eden was supposed to host four matches prior to the announcement. The match will go ahead as per the original starting time of 7.30 p.m. local time. “The decision has been taken following consultation with the BCCI, the relevant state associations, the ICC and BCCI security consultant and other relevant authorities,” Richardson said. “The decision to relocate the match has been made for security reasons. The concerns initially arose following alleged public comments recently reported by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, warning of demonstrations and attempts to disrupt the

Mahashivaratri fete at Shivalaya temple BY A STAFF WRITER OSTON. TX -- Mahashivaratri was celebrated with great zeal and religious fervor at the Shivalaya Temple of Greater Boston on March 7. More than 800 devotees of all age groups thronged the shrine to participate in Rudra Abhishekams and offered worship. The temple witnessed heavy rush from early morning. In the evening, Shiva Tandava Nritya, Shiva Kalyanam and Bhajans were also organized as part of cultural programs of the celebration. Children presented an amazing Tandava Nritya performance with all appropriate characters by wearing masks and wigs. Pleasant Shiva Bhajans were sung by Shri Mohan ji and his family members. Temple priest Pandit Jay Narayan Badal Ji performed Abhishekams with all Vedic rituals and mantras without showing any exhaustion. He also performed Shiva Kalyanam with all the vivah rituals. BY A STAFF WRITER PRINGFIELD, IL -- Nearly 32,000 residents are owed an estimated $2.7 million after they purchased a product or service from telecom giant Sprint but did not receive the rebate that incentivized the sale, Treasurer Michael Frerichs has charged in a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. Frerichs pursued the lawsuit after the telecommunications giant and its clearinghouse partner, Young America Corp. of Minnesota, kept the rebate money. The Treasurer’s Office has the ability to sue because rebates are considered unclaimed property if not paid within five years and must be surrendered to the state treasury. These purchases were made between 2003 and 2005. “It is frustrating and wrong when these large companies with deep pockets and corporate attorneys break their promises, keep money that is not theirs, and dare people to file a lawsuit,” Frerichs said. Sprint is one of the largest providers of digital wireless and cellular telephone and data services in the United States. It routinely offers rebates and credits to incentivize new purchases. Young America is one of the largest rebate clearinghouses in the world. Under the contract between Sprint and Young America, Young America draws the rebate check from its own bank account, and Sprint advances the funds to Young America to cover the rebates. The value of the uncashed rebate checks, known as “slippage,” is kept by Young America and slippage is considered when negotiating contract terms. Therefore, Sprint and Young America have retained the value of unclaimed rebates owed to Illinois residents, the lawsuit alleges. Doing so violates the Illinois Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act (765 ILCS 1025 et seq.)

The man is described as being in his 20s to 30s, 6 feet-1 inch to 6 feet- 4 inches tall and weighing about 170 lbs. The police say he has a possible scar or birthmark on the right side of his face, and a beard. The crimes are all misdemeanors that occurred in December, 2015 and January, 2016. Specifically, Noland falsely alleged that one of Krishnamoorthi’s past donors is disloyal to America. In fact, the company, Spry Solutions, was an American company based in Chicago that employed American workers to work in Chicago. Noland’s suggestion that this company engaged in outsourcing simply because its owner was Indian-American is “outrageous and highly offensive,” community leader and businessman Jitendra Digankver said. Police warn of ATM and driver robberies BY A STAFF WRITER HICAGO, IL – The Harrison (11th) District Police issued three separate alerts about robbery patterns in Garfield Park and North Lawndale last week. In the first alert, the police say two robbers with a gun have approached people on the street and taken their wallets, money, purses and cellphones. The robberies occurred in East Garfield Park on the-3400 block of West Arthington Street on February 14 at 12:30 pm; 3400 block of West Arthington Street on February 15 at 6:30 pm and 3500 block of West Arthington Street on February 20 at 7:25 pm. The police also warned of delivery driver robberies in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street in East Garfield Park. In one robbery, the man punched the delivery driver and took food items. In the other incident, two men grabbed food items and fled on foot. The robberies occurred in the same block on February 23 at 5:56 pm and on February 25 at 10:55 pm. A man has robbed two people after they withdrew money from ATMs on the West Side, the police said. The robber said he had a weapon and demanded money from victims: The twin incidents happened in North Lawndale, in the 3300 block of West Roosevelt Road on March 1 at 3:30 am, and in Garfield Park in the 4100 block of West Madison Avenue on March 1 at 12:50 pm. Anyone with information about these robberies is asked to call police at (312) 744-8263.

Law school dean sued for sexual harassment BY A STAFF WRITER ERKELEY, CA -- UC Berkeley L a w S c h o o l D e a n Su j i t Choudhry took an indefinite leave of absence from his post on March 9, following allegations of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed by his executive assistant a day earlier. The Indian American has served as dean of the noted school since 2014, and is the first person of Indian origin to be appointed to the post. In the lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court, Tyann Sorell, who has served as an executive assistant in the law school since 2012, accused Choudhry of daily sexual harassment. The incidents began shortly after Choudhry was appointed to the post in July 2014, said the mother of five in the lawsuit. The dean initially subjected his assistant to unwanted “bear hugs,” according to the lawsuit, which escalated into kissing. The executive assistant alleged that Choudhry would block the entrance to her cubicle so that she could not escape his unwanted advances. On several occasions, Chudhry tried to kiss Sorrell on the lips, according to the lawsuit, and also forced her hands onto his waist. Sorrell said she felt “disgusted, humiliated, exposed and dirty” by the dean’s sexual advances, but feared that if she complained, she would lose her job and ability to support her family. ctress Sonakshi Sinha believes that women should get equal pay in all professions. “Women are quite vocal about their rights nowadays. And I want the change not only in film industry... Be it sports or business or in any other profession, women should be paid an equal amount,” Sonakshi said at Inglot’s Guinness World Record event. “I believe that this gap will be fulfilled soon. Priyanka Chopra as SP Abha Mathur, the no-nonsense police officer who executes her duty sincerely is competent, but not impressive. Her physical agility and demeanor in the action sequences, are praiseworthy but her performance, average. She brings nothing new to her character and the swagger when she steps out of the jeep and throws away her Ray-Ban shades, is uncalled for and repetitive. Prakash Jha himself, as the corrupt policeman who later realises the significance of his khakhi, and tries to make amends, is the surprise package of the film. While the story is a run-of-themill tale that mirrors the state of affairs in the country, the screenplay is compact and tight and never meanders from its key focus.

onsuming foods and beverages with a h i g h glycemic index, such as white bread or bagels, corn flakes and puffed rice, is linked with an increased risk of developing lung cancer, says a study. Glycemic index (GI) is a measure of the quality of dietary carbohydrates, defined by how quickly blood sugar levels are raised following a meal. The link between GI and lung cancer is particularly prominent in particular subgroups, such as never-smokers and those diagnosed with the squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) subtype of lung cancer, showed the study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. The researchers surveyed 1,905 patients newly diagnosed with lung cancer and 2,413 healthy individuals. Participants self-reported past dietary habits and health histories. “We observed a 49 percent increased risk of lung cancer among subjects with the highest daily GI compared to those with the lowest daily GI,” said senior author Xifeng Wu from The University of Texas in the US. “The associations were more pronounced among subjects who were never smokers, diagnosed
