“It takes a village to raise a child” is a saying that rings true about our efforts over the past 131 years in helping the most vulnerable youth and families in our community. Through the positive impact created by our over 350 trauma-informed team members – coupled with the unyielding support from our volunteers, donors, corporate and community partners – many children in San Diego are able to find hope and healing from the darkness of their struggles. Struggles with mental health not only impacts a child, but also their family members, peers, teachers and the community at-large. Through our innovative program services, not only is a child receiving the individualized care they need to compassionately overcome their struggles, but so are their family members who are being equipped with the tools needed to better understand and cope with their family’s experiences. It is through the commitment of the Center’s “village” that over 1,000 children, teens and families are empowered every day across our 8 program sites and in hundreds of homes across San Diego County. We are delighted to share with you in our newsletter the many ways that individuals and community groups in our village are giving back to ensure families are leading healthy, joyful lives. Thank you to these supporters who generously gave their time, talent and treasure to create change and awareness about mental health. We also thank you for your continued commitment to our important cause. With much gratitude,

Moisés Barón, Ph.D. President and CEO

Phyllis and Dave Snyder have a passion for serving their community and specifically the needs of children and families in San Diego. Both have served in leadership roles in several organizations throughout San Diego, specifically Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation, Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund and most recently on our Advisory Board for the Center. In their own words, Dave and Phyllis tell us why they support the Center and remain committed to our mission.

FROM THE HEART OF A DONOR We are supporters of San Diego Center for Children because we embrace the organization’s many programs providing services in support of children with mental, behavioral and emotional challenges. Aiding assessment, prevention and treatment of these issues, the outpatient, residential and schoolbased programs make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in the region. We are so grateful for the wonderful work done by San Diego Center for Children and hope you will visit the Center and see the campus where children and families are being served.

IT TAKES A COMMUNITY The Center’s Corporate ComMISSIONer program is a network of philanthropic, community-minded businesses that help to fulfill our MISSION to Protect the Joy of Childhood. Prevent Emotional Suffering. Incite Change. Takeda California, Inc. has been an amazing partner for over 15 years. Beyond giving money, Takeda’s staff connects directly and personally through special events, holidays and educational opportunities for our youth. This incredible partnership continues to grow and helps the Center fulfill its MISSION to provide JOY throughout the year for children and teens! “Takeda is privileged to have its staff engage in various hands-on experiences with the Center like the annual holiday party we host and field trips to our research labs. Takeda’s staff have developed strong and lasting bonds with the Center and their mission to improve the lives of youth in our community.” David Weitz

Head of Takeda California and Global Research Externalization

The Center has been the beneficiary of the Fairmont Grand Del Mar’s annual tree lighting ceremony for over 8 years. Through this event, the Center has received generous monetary and gift card donations that directly benefit our children, teens and families during the holidays and beyond. Additionally, Fairmont Grand Del Mar supports our programs and services through generous in-kind and event donations. We are so grateful to partner with Fairmont Grand Del Mar year after year in order to provide continued JOY for youth and families we serve! “Fairmont Grand Del Mar is proud to support the oldest children’s nonprofit in San Diego. It is important not only for our colleagues to be engaged in the community, but also for Fairmont Grand Del Mar’s guests to be aware of the important and impactful work the Center does every day.” Charles Stuart

Director of Catering and Conferences Services, Fairmont Grand Del Mar

THE HEART OF OUR MISSION! “As a former student and a residential teen at the Center, I started out as a total mess. Thanks to all of the truly amazing Center staff, I’m successful in high school and in life. I just can’t thank staff enough. I’m finally in a public school. And the staff didn’t just help me behaviorally, they helped me academically as well. So, thanks to them, I’m the best me I can be!!!” – Center Youth

JOYMAKER LOVE JoyMakers for the San Diego Center for Children make a positive impact on the children, teens and families we serve. By providing a unique blend of volunteerism and much needed resources throughout the year, our JoyMakers continue to make a difference. We are so thankful to all our amazing community partners who help us to sustain our campus and mission every day!

Close to 40 volunteers from Aldrich Tax Services spent the afternoon at the Center painting a few of our residential cottages!

Over 100 volunteers from Windermere Homes and Estates helped with campus revitalization projects, landscaping and hosting a fun carnival for our youth. On top of all of that, Windemere presented the Center with a $10,000 check!

Employees from Gaslamp District Media & Batta Fulkerson joined the Center for the 3rd year in a row to volunteer and underwrite t-shirts and prizes for our annual Summer Slam basketball tournament to benefit our youth!
