SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 2015-16 JACOBS
MASTERWORKS SEASON
“You can’t touch music—it exists only at the moment it is being apprehended—and yet it can profoundly alter how we view the world and our place in it. Music can get us through difficult patches in our lives by changing not only how we feel about ourselves, but also how we feel about everything outside ourselves. It’s powerful stuff.” David Byrne

Nature, music, and science are inseparable. What you see on the cover are three overlapped sound-forms, one of which was created from Stravinsky’s The Firebird. Born of Sound—a custom art/technology company that translates a sound’s energy into stunning artwork— creates images like this one by passing sound through a virtual environment that utilizes principles of fluid dynamics and known physical characteristics of sound’s turbulence, velocity, density and speed.
