Lloyd Benjamin Auto Abstracts and Sculptures
Sandler Hudson Gallery is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition for Lloyd Benjamin entitled Auto Abstracts and Sculptures. With Auto Abstracts and Sculptures, Benjamin merges two separate bodies of work in order to further survey the processes of mark-making and assemblage. The resulting amalgamation underscores a shared foundation in abstraction between the two bodies, realized through day-to-day materials of the artist’s own studio environment. In Auto Abstracts and Sculptures, Benjamin intermixes hand-painted archival sheet coverings belonging to Auto Abstracts and pairs them with the independent, architectural objects of Sculptures. Benjamin implements a careful consideration of color, intentionally mirroring components while establishing a distinct relationship between the two bodies in a cityscapelike arrangement. When combined, Auto Abstracts and Sculptures emphasizes methods of framing and finishing procedures by utilizing its by-products as means of creation. L L O Y D B E N J A M I N was born in Little Rock, Arkansas (b. 1978) and currently lives and works in Atlanta, GA. Benjamin is a self-taught artist who works in a range of mediums including painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography. His work is influenced by extensive traveling in the US and Canada by freight train, and on the road in Europe, Mexico, Morocco and Colombia. His work has been presented at numerous venues across the United States. Benjamin was represented by Solomon Projects in Atlanta from 2009-2011. He was the owner and curator of Get This Gallery in Atlanta from 2004-2014.
