Thesis
A GARDEN OF MEMORIES Aldo Rossi describes the city as an artefact that possesses its own history, which leaves its own trace. These traces give meaning and permanence to the city; these urban artifices preserve the history of the city as a built form. They provide a framework for a great possibility of a dialogue between the object (past and present) and the subject.
a garden of memories, kolkata 8th semester, 2017
What Kolkata has experienced in the past centuries, very few cities experience even in millennia. The traces of the past are strong. This project delves deeper into the relationship of the city to one such prominent trace with much sentimental and historical value: the South Park Cemetery (a 300-year old British colonial cemetery). The project views the cemetery as container of memories and experiments with idea of a wall around the site, while accentuating its unique ethereal properties. The subject is placed in a framework of strong imagery of the past and contemporary, socially and contextually relevant inserts. The cemetery has seen and lived the story of Kolkata as a silent observer and the interaction between the object and subject works at retelling this wonderful, as well as daunting story, meanwhile trying to develop a new take on open spaces altogether. The project in a sense is an invitation for the subject to witness the dialogue between the past and present.

The approach is one of creating spaces of the same quality as which exist in the fort as ruins using historical motifs and elements reinterpreted to a modern context, so as to bring the architectural essence of the fort to life and offer it to the growing city of Chitradurga.

the canteen is the first structure visible. It sets the prelude for the rest of the journey into the fort. It also houses the visitors information centre.
cafe and tourist centre
From the canteen, guests have an option of either entering the amphitheatre which leads to the phytotherapy garden, or they can walk along the foot path.
phytotherapy garden
Both the footpath and the garden lead to the ticket counter, which set the rhythm for the rest of the public space which acts as a spill out area for the main fort gate.
Adequate spill out area to accommodate the heavy traffic.

Board game museum acts an attraction directly relating to the history of the fort. It also acts a marker for the main intervention, which is across the road.

Abstraction Exercise Restaurant Design
2nd semester, 2014 mentors: ar. shaji panicker, ar. ceejo cyriac, ar. ravi ramachandran
LINE DIAGRAM
BACKGROUND The following project was based on form-making from abstraction. The site was a hypothetical where each one had to pick an emotion, explore it through diagrams and models.
lines eventually form a system of triangles
triangles permute to form a threedimensional system; a spatial experience is generated
The emotion chosen was ‘confusion’, which was best expressed through a series of random intersecting lines, which gave rise to a family of triangle, hence a two dimensional form is born. Eventual through model making exercises a three dimensional, occupatile space was create. The program was the act of eating, hence it was a restaurant. necessary functions were inserted with special emphasis on the quality of light which filtered through the dining and cooking spaces through a system of flexible fenestration.

BACKGROUND
PREMISE
APPROACH
The Bangalore Development Authority is designated as the Planning Authority under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961.
The project brief was to revamp the existing BDA complex at Kormangala, one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in Bangalore.
The project emphasis was on renovation and retention. Therefore the most basic concept of the design was to retain the initial plan, with all the entry points and nodes unaltered.
As a part of BDA’s development plan for Bangalore, BDA complexes were built throughout the city with the vision to provide an integrated solution to the growing needs of a rapidly growing city. Due the rate of development of the city, the complexes starting getting outdated by early 21st century.
The project required to upgrade the existing complex and provide for the newer needs of the citizens. Being a government initiative it was important to retain certain aspects of the original design. Special emphasis was laid on providing sensitively thought out public spaces which would enhance the quality of public interactions.
retail administration/services entertainment restaurants/pub
In addition to that the structure was elevated gradually to create a comfortable space for congregation and achieve an interesting shape. A form which would seem like a gesture by the structure to literally clear the ground for the people who make the city. Special care was taken to retain most of the foliage as part of a larger landscaping attempt
