RENOVATING RESURFACING REVIVING
KESTERSON FIELD THE HEART OF OUR SCHOOL
OUR STUDENTS NEED A NEW FIELD The playing field was installed in 1965, and is now home to gophers and their holes, making sports treacherous and play perilous. Many an ankle has been sprained and a heel caught in the uneven surface in recent years.
Circa 1982
As more and more of San Domenico’s students participate and excel in intramural sports, including flag football, cross-country, soccer, track, and lacrosse, they and our guests need and deserve a safe and level field.
At the heart of the San Domenico campus lies Kesterson Field, a wide and welcoming open space where San Domenico students of all ages play games, practice sports, observe ceremonies, and celebrate festivals.
NEED Goal is $150,000
BEAUTY, PRACTICALITY, SAFETY, AND SUSTAINABILITY The summertime renovation of the field will include removal of existing turf and soil to a depth of 6 feet; eradication of gopher burrows and underground yellow-jacket nests; installation of a new sub-drainage
system, daylighting into the creek to keep the field dry and usable in a wider range of weather; and installing a wateruse measuring system, setting a new standard for campus-wide irrigation.

A NEW SURFACE MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE! Our re-turfed field will correct the marshy spots that students have to play around during even minimally wet weather. Coaches will be able to practice full-out drills without fearing for the safety of student athletes’ ankles and knees.
Our kids will be able to practice cutting, dodging, passing, dribbling, cut-and-pass, stop-and-go, and defensive slide drills on a safe outdoor surface, while various teams can break down the fundamentals of their sports – strategies, positioning, placement, plays, and systems –

simultaneously on different sections of the field. As the largest flat, open space within our campus, Kesterson Field is also the site of several annual all-school Masses; and overnight camping for the youngest SD students, who observe the stars and planets from the quiet and solitude of the field.

A more inviting field is a more attractive home court. An improved field is the next stage in taking a highly successful athletics program to the next level.
