Location: Talbot Trail, Ontario, Canada This home went through a complete interior remodel. One of the largest design changes that were made was the elimination of floor to ceiling walls around the central staircase leading to the walk-out basement. Great detail was taken with customary design features on the main floor, primarily the kitchen and staircase railing. Living Room
Location: Talbot Trail, Ontario, Canada The staircase railing was one of the crucial elements of the project, not only because it was an integral connection between the two floors, but because it was central to the entire home. I designed a railing around standard sizing glass panels. This was much more cost effective. From there details gathered in place for each special joinery. It was important to source materials of the same species and keep the finishes a dark wood grain as the wood window casings to create continuity throughout the space. The choice of glass panels were very intentional so that the central railing would not obstruct views from room to room. The glass panels also produced a play of reflections from midday sunlight that brought light down the stairs and into the basement.
