CONSULTATION QUESTIONS Is the client actively losing hair or taking any medications that would cause hair loss? If they are actively losing hair or taking any medications that may cause hair loss, they would not be a good candidate for Hotheads Hairwear or any other type of hair system that is attached to the client’s own hair. Have they ever worn a top of the head piece? Clients who have worn hair pieces or extensions are accustomed to handling their hair and usually have no problems caring for their new hair. Clients who have not worn hair pieces or extensions may need a bit more information on how to care for and style hairwear. What is the clients goal for their hairpiece? It is important to understand this in order to provide the best possible service to the client and achieve their ultimate goal. When was the client’s last chemical service- perm, relaxer, keratin, color? All chemical service should be performed 24-48 hours prior to the Hairwear application. How does your client care for their hair? Remember that the adhesive used for Hairwear can be compromised if your client uses products containing alcohol, oil or ethanol. It is best if your client uses our product line which is designed specifically for natural and second hair. Does your client swim or workout regularly? Inform your client that they are still able to do these things as long as they rinse their hair with fresh water after sweating excessively or swimming in chlorine or salt water. Discuss the flow of the appointment. Be sure to go over the timing of the appointment so you both know how much time to block out for their appointment.

PREPARATION Preparation is consistent throughout, no matter which style hairwear you select. Prior to the client’s appointment, prepare the Hairwear piece so that it is ready when she arrives. To prep shampoo and condition with Hotheads Clean and Smooth. Then blow dry the piece with round brush. You may want to check with the client to make sure you dry the part in the proper direction. You may also prefer to pre-cut any excess hair from the piece but this is not always necessary. Shampoo: Clarify the client’s hair twice with our Squeaky Clean Shampoo. This process will remove all residue and buildup from your client’s natural hair. Do not condition or use any styling products until 24-48 hours after the Hotheads application, as this could compromise the adhesive properties of the tape tabs. Dry: Blow Dry your client’s hair thoroughly. Then flat iron client’s natural hair to help with precise sectioning.

HAIRWEAR APPLICATION

Hotheads Hairwear can be applied quickly and easily with a few basic items. In the following pages, you will find the steps to follow for proper application of each piece. Placement for each piece will vary depending on the client’s need. Please follow the diagram for each piece to further understand the application process.

The Smart Part is a 6x2.5” rectangular piece with 16” hair. This unit is intended to be placed along the part area anywhere on the top of the head.

Step 2 Stabilize the piece with a few clips on either side. The double prong clips will anchor the Smart Part to your clients natural hair allowing for a precise and secure application.

Step 3 It is essential during the Hair Wear application to maintain accurate placement of the piece. In order to achieve this, follow the numerical sequence above which will assist in creating balance during the application process. Beginning with tab 1, use your applicator tool to pull the client’s hair through the opening between the tape tabs. Remove the bottom adhesive cover, pull the hair down tight then remove the top adhesive cover and press together to secure and create the watertight seal. *Be sure to only pull hair from directly under the opening. It is not recommended to over direct hair from other areas, as this could cause discomfort and breakage. *Just as with Hotheads Hair Extensions, make sure to pull enough hair through the opening so it covers the attachment area. You should still be able to see tape through said hair; too much hair will keep the tape from adhering completely. This allows the hair to hold the attachment and allows the adhesive to create the watertight seal. Step 4 Move to tab 2. Make sure the piece has not shifted and is still in its proper place on the clients head. Holding down the front tab, pull the piece down from the back tab to ensure it lies flat and tight against the head. Holding the piece in place, using your tool, pull the hair through the space between the tape tabs, just as you did with tab 1. Remove the adhesive cover and secure. Repeat these steps in order until you have secured all tabs. Ensure you are only taking hair from the area directly under the attachment and that you pull the piece tight before you secure the tabs. *Please note- numbers on diagram indicate which order to pull through and apply. These numbers are for educational purposes only. The actual product will not have them. The only number on the piece is the color code, which also indicates the back of the unit.

Step 1 Determine the actual placement of the piece. This is typically at the crown area. To achieve the most seamless appearance, allow a section of the client’s natural hair to be styled over the piece. Step 2 Stabilize the piece with a few clips on either side. The double prong clips will anchor Volumize Her to your clients natural hair allowing for a precise and secure application.

CLIENT DO’S & DON’T’S After you have applied Hotheads, ensure that your client has all the proper tools to care for their new hair before they leave the salon. To help you with this, we have formulated our product line specifically for natural and second hair. Second hair is hair not attached to the head and not receiving all the necessary nutrients from the scalp. To ensure your client is informed on the proper care of Hotheads Hairwear provide them with the list of Hothead’s Client Do‘s & Don‘ts: CLIENT DOS Do wait 24-48 hours before washing or chemically processing your hair. Do use a soft, boar bristle brush; starting at the ends and working your way up, always brushing in a downward motion. Brush before and after shampooing to keep hair from matting. Do use a good leave in conditioner from mid shaft to ends, keeping away from the tape tabs. For best results use Hotheads products to keep hair silky, healthy, and irresistibly soft. Do wear your hair in a ponytail when swimming, exercising and sleeping. Do have a licensed professional remove and reapply your Hairwear piece. CLIENT DON’TS Don‘t use any products containing alcohol, oil, or ethanol. Alcohol based products are drying to the hair and can compromise the strength of the adhesive bond. Don‘t brush hair harshly. Don‘t go to bed with your hair wet. Don‘t chemically process your hair at home. Rely on your salon professional for any services while wearing Hairwear piece. Don‘t remove your Hairwear piece yourself.

TROUBLESHOOTING When a salon professional and a client both follow the guidelines for Hothead’s Hairwear Application and hair care properly, the results can be amazing and stay looking that way for 2-4 weeks at a time. If an issue should arise, refer to the following troubleshooting solutions. Problem: The piece slips off. Cause: At the application the hair was too damp, freshly dyed or too much hair placed between the two tabs. Solution: Completely remove Hairwear and reapply making sure your client’s hair is prepared according to the directions. Problem: Itchy scalp. Cause: The scalp has not adapted to the new weight, the client may not be shampooing and rinsing properly, or the sectioning of the client’s real hair was not clean and cross hairs are pulling. Solution: No scratching; the scalp must adjust to the new weight. Just give the issue some time. Make sure to reiterate the importance of rinsing all product out of the hair. Remember, there is no latex, silicon or other allergens in the tabs that would cause irritation. Make sure you are only applying hair located directly under the tab to ensure comfort for client, as well as maintain hair integrity. Problem: Scalp irritations. Cause: The extensions could have been applied too close to the scalp, pulled too tight or placed against the natural growth of the hair. Also see itchy scalp. Solution: Completely remove Hotheads and reapply carefully following instructions. Let the strand of the client’s hair fall over the lower adhesive loosely and in the natural direction of growth. Do not over direct or create tension on the client’s hair. Problem: Extensions are looking dull and brittle. Cause: The extensions could be damaged due to excessive heat or using the wrong products. Solution: Use Hotheads Silky Smooth on natural hair and Hairwear. Generally we recommend using out specially formulated products regularly. Problem: Extensions get matted. Cause: The client has gone to bed with wet or damp hair; has kept a towel on her damp hair for too long; hasn’t brushed her hair before washing; or has rubbed or massaged her scalp too much. Solution: Use our Hotheads Restore strand by strand and carefully work your way up with our boar bristle brush. To avoid this from recurring, inform your client on the proper care for her extensions. Brush 3 times a day from ends to root and avoid product build up. Sweat and buildup will also cause the extensions to become matted.

CONSULTATION The consultation with the client is the most crucial part of the experience. This is the time to understand your client’s wishes and establish realistic expectations. While most clients wants coverage, your job will be to assess your client’s expectations and instruct them on how to shampoo and style their hair between visits. Follow the client consultation sheet and client questionnaire to get a better understanding of your client’s needs. You should also use this time to determine the best options in terms of what color and hair style to use in order to achieve the desired look. Make sure your client is satisfied with the hair color before ordering and ask your client if they will be making any adjustments to their hair length or color prior to the application. Such information helps you to select the colors and style to order. Be sure to answer all questions or concerns your client may have.

MAINTENANCE CLEAN 1. Brush hair and remove all tangles, then wash it while upright, do not flip the hair over in the opposite direction. 2. Always use a good quality shampoo and hydrating conditioner to keep your hair soft. We recommend the Hotheads product line as it is specially formulated for natural and second hair. Don’t overdo it, too much conditioner or any other hair care product can cause build up and tangling. 3. Stay away from products containing alcohol, oil or ethanol, as these ingredients make hair dry and could compromise the adhesive on your Hairwear piece. 4. Never sleep on wet hair - make sure your hair is completely dry before you go to bed, then gently tie it up or braid it to prevent tangling. STYLE 1. Start with a Hotheads boar bristle brush, brushing in a downward motion at the ends of your hair and gently work your way up (do not brush harshly). 2. Try to brush your hair 2 to 3 times a day. 3. When using heat tools to style make sure to protect your Hairwear piece with a thermal styling product. Excessive heat can reduce the life of your piece so be cautious with the use of blow dryers, curling irons and do not isolate heat on the tape tabs. 4. Allow your stylist to handle all chemical processes while you are wearing Hairwear (i.e. perm, color, and keratin). DO’S & DON’T’S 1. Hair tangles when dirt and sweat build up so wear your hair up or in a ponytail when you exercise and be sure to wash your hair after working out, swimming etc. 2. When in contact with chlorine or salt water, be sure you rinse hair thoroughly.
