Through his photography in India, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and New York City Sandy Kaufman reveals a poetry of place while discovering the unfamiliar in the familiar— forms, patterns, juxtaposed images, textures, and composition in shadow and line. Oaxaca is not just a beautiful city nestled in the mountains of southern Mexico, but it is place that is renowned for it’s extraordinary history, refined cuisine, multicolored colonial architecture, elaborately embellished churches, and a vibrant community of artists, students, crafts people, scholars, and farmers. From the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Textiles, the Ruffino Tamayo collection of historical art to the ancient sites of Monte Alban and Mitla, Oaxaca is vibrant and inspirational. Sandy Kaufman is a painter and photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. He has worked for Columbia University and New York University for the past 20 years as creative director while continuing to work on his paintings and photography. Now he is solely focused on his personal art including a series of larger canvases based on his gouache portfolio. http://www.sandykaufmanphoto.com
