The brief was quite clear where the Client required to have one bedroom at ground floor level to be used by occasional guests, and the rest of bedrooms (two connecting bedrooms for their children and one master bedroom) to be located at the upper level. Numbers of stories were regulated in Bintaro area to be maximum 2 storeys and not exceeding 15 meters, with front setback of 5 meters. A fitness room is also provided at the upper floor with the view towards the swimming pool at the back of the mansion, which its design was inspired by the shape of a pyramid. Roof is an element of a building in Indonesia which is playing an important role in a country with tropical climate with high intensity of rainfall and high humidity. The original design inspiration was to adopt middle eastern style building; However, as the architect I was able to convince the Client to use a modified ‘triangular/gable roof’ with additional of a distinguished concrete dome structure which were not sacrificing the original intent. Although the mansion is designee as a climate-controled/air-conditioned, the ‘triangular roof’ helped in reducing heat from the sun during the day and accommodate rain and humidity. The interlocking system of ceramic roof tiles would also allow the roof to ‘breath’ and cool down the building to a certain extent. Adoption of the modified roof was resulting a unique ‘hybrid’ appearance of the mansion, which makes it stands out but at the same time goes along with its surrounding neighborhood.
