Winter Wonderland

BACK STAGE TOUR: This one hour experience gives a peek behind the curtain and the many jobs associated with the entertainment world. Learn basic terminology, stage direction, acting games. Elementary students put on a creative drama play, upper level students try their skills at acting tools and improvisation. $5/student

FAMILY NIGHTS: Visit the Buell Children’s Museum and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center with the families from your school. Let the arts help you with reading, math, or writing concepts! This taste of art includes catering options as well as an opportunity for students and their care providers to pick up a family membership and come again and again. $2/guest (up to 200 guests)

The Way West

Educators, call 719-295-7205 to be part of River of Words & One Square Block, an environmental literacy program to hone observation, critical thinking and problem-solving as it relates to the watershed. Every block tells a story- be part of this exciting exhibit! Coming on a tour? Teachers visit FREE during regular hours with a School ID to preview exhibitions for classroom use.

Get your creative juices flowing with Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and more with STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math) activities. Educational experiences dive off of important artworks, all with the theme of water. Fill up with stories, writing, experiments, print-making, terra cotta portraits, and ecological art for all ages. Winter Wonderland November 15 – January 3, 2015 HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES Thrills and chills abound with this exploration of ice, snow, and all things frozen. If the cold never bothers you, this is your exhibit! Traditional Nutcracker Capers, Enchanted Frosty Forest, Mr. & Mrs. Claus, gift making and of course the tallest teddy bear tree in town return to round out the experience. The Way West - Along the Goodnight & Loving Trail January 10 - May 30, 2015 WINTER/SPRING 2015 Visit the Francis King Gallery of Western Art, Representing the West and the Buell Children’s Museum’s exhibition, “The Way West” to bring your social studies curriculum alive! Pack your Conestoga wagon, try Pony Express writing, reenact a western painting, weave a bookmark, pan for gold, visit a teepee, and make this a memorable journey west. Look up, Pueblo, and discover native birds with the Nature and Rapor Center of Pueblo. Each teacher receives a Western art collection book showing western artwork from the Francis King Collection. Colorful Colorado - Camp Create-a-lot! June 6 – November 7, 2015 SUMMER/FALL 2015 Visit our wonderful state without ever leaving Pueblo. Blue columbines, Greenback Cutthroat Trout, Purple Mountain Majesty, Orange sunsets – explore color and creativity in this camp-style exhibit. It’s Red, White and You! Student Matinees Nutcracker in a Nutshell

All Grades Wednesday/Thursday, November 19 & 20, 2014 | Main Stage Theater 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00 noon | Cost: $5/student Your paid admission by November 13th reserves your seats. Hurry, seating is limited! A holiday tradition of the Tchaikovsky classic performed by the Sangre de Cristo Ballet. Fully staged costumes and set, this hour-long ballet experience includes a Question & Answer “Talk Back” session with the cast. Limited tours and workshops are also available during your Nutcracker visit!

The Amazing Food Detective

Pre-K - Grade 8 April 15 & 16, 2015 | Main Stage Theater | 9:00 am, 10:30am, and 12 noon | Cost: $3/student This play invites students to join the sleuth in discovering healthy habits. They will see the effects of junk food on their body and identify healthier food choices for maximum daily energy and fitness. Solve the mystery in this interactive performance. Includes Student resources.

Traveling Show Choose Your Life

Choose Your Life program is available to come to a limited number of schools at no charge when you participate in a tour to the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center and “Face up to Bullies Project.” Visit the Picasso|Matisse|Chagall Exhibition and the Buell Children’s Museum (pre-paid for Pueblo City Schools and School District #70, all others $5/per person) before Jan 3, 2015.

Grades 3 - 8 Give your students strategies to handle bullying situations. This 45-minute show is a high-energy, live-action game show play. Students learn new ways to cope by helping our troubled characters Use Humor, Find Some Friends, Tell an Adult, Take a Stand and Walk Away, Get Involved and Ask a Friend. This program is based on research and content found in the Olweus Bully Prevention Program, the Stop! Bullying Now Program and other research-based bully prevention sources.
