The team partnered with the North Shore Little League Challenger Division to commemorate its second annual Challenger Day event. The day was celebrated by fans of the NSLLCD and San Jac alike. The team acted as buddies during the game. The buddies assist the Challenger players on the field as needed.
incorporated both members of the community and service veterans. Capt. Chad Littlejohn, U.S. Army veteran, and Dr. Alexander Okwonna, North Campus provost and former U.S. Army sergeant, both threw a ceremonial first pitch. From the local community, the Crosby HS Army JROTC Color Guard presented the colors while San Jac students Kendall Craft and Korigan Crowson sang the national anthem.
As part of their regular season, the San Jac baseball team hosts two special events to celebrate diversity and service in the community. In 2022, the team held a Military Appreciation Game and Challenger Day.
Arrington took over the San Jac program before the 2001 season. Since then, the College has made 15 trips to the National Junior College Athletic Association JUCO World Series, including six appearances in the national title game, culminating as the national runner-up in 2003, 2004, 2010, 2012, 2016, and 2017. His 41 wins at the JUCO World Series is an all-time record, as are his 67 total games at the prestigious national tournament. Arrington adds “Hall of Fame” to his signature, as the veteran coach entered the NJCAA Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018.
In the 2022 season, the baseball team returned to the JUCO World Series for the 28th time in school history, making back-to-back appearances and the sixth trip in seven years. San Jac (4520) defeated Tyler Junior College and Wharton County Junior College (twice) in the Region XIX South Regional Tournament and Alvin Community College in the Mid-South District Qualifier to earn a return trip to Grand Junction, Colorado.
The student-athletes advanced at the World Series, defeating reigning national champions McClennan Community College 15-7 in the opening day of the competition. Facing Wabash Valley College in the second round, the team fought a nine-inning battle, eventually falling with a score of 10-8. San Jac’s national bout ultimately ended with a loss against Central Arizona College 16-4.
The San Jac baseball team ended the 2021 season third at the JUCO World Series. San Jac finished the season 51-15 overall after winning the Region XIV tournament.
In 2020, Arrington led the team to a 21-6 season and 11-0 in the conference before the College and NJCAA canceled the season because of COVID-19.
The way he sees it, Tom Arrington does more than coach baseball at San Jacinto College: He helps players continue their development and extend their playing career.
In 2019, Arrington guided the team to a 42-12 season record. Though the players dominated their conference opponents, they did not continue post-season because of NJCAA sanctions. The team had a great season, however, highlighted by the Washington Nationals selecting Jackson Rutledge in the first round of the MLB draft.
Arrington and his staff have helped more than 200 players find homes at collegiate institutions and more than 90 at the professional level. For him, it’s all part of being the team’s leader.
“They are getting a quality education while continuing to develop and showcase their skills to a point where they either move on to the Division I level on scholarship or sign professional contracts,” Arrington said.
Arrington began his coaching career in 1991 at the College of Mateo. Later came stops at San Francisco State University and College of Marin. In 2000, he became San Jac’s assistant coach, focusing on the pitchers. Nearly two seasons later, he was named head coach and in spring 2011 the athletic director for the North Campus.
Arrington played professionally for the Triple A team of the Texas Rangers, the Salt Lake Trappers, and the Single A farm team of the Montreal Expos.
The Mill Valley, California native began his playing career at College of Marin, where he was an all-conference selection. He then played two years at Texas A&M University, where he earned two letters and was all-conference and the Southwest Conference tournament MVP. He also earned the C.E. “Pat” Olsen MVP award. He holds a master’s degree from San Francisco State University.
Arrington and his wife, Marya, have two children, Alden and Anya Lily.
A former San Jacinto College catcher (19992000), Kory Koehler is now entering his 24th season with the team. As a player, Koehler was fortunate to play in two JUCO World Series, and during his time as a volunteer assistant coach, the team has made 16 trips to Grand Junction. Koehler appreciates the success he’s been part of as a coach. Winning consistently involves having talented players and crafted coaches, but Koehler has seen San Jac go the extra step.
“For me, each year is a new start,” he said. “This is my alma mater, and it means the world to me to continue to be part of such a wonderful program.”
Koehler expects another “fantastic run” this year and a chance to win another national championship.
“We are poised to make a very loud statement offensively and will be outstanding on the mound as well,” he said. “I would love to see our young men experience winning the final game of the season in Grand Junction. Experiencing that moment is something we work hard for and look forward to each year.”
Originally from North Bay, New York, Koehler graduated from the University of Houston in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science and in 2008 with a Master of Education in physical education. In summer 2015, he led the Houston Collegiate League Gators to a league championship.
Koehler was elected as the 2019 American Coaches Association national assistant coach of the year — the first to win this award in junior college baseball.
“Kory is an outstanding coach and an even better person who has a deep-seated passion for the development of players and for the success of the San Jac baseball program,” Arrington said. “He has a tireless commitment toward our baseball program and the pursuit of a
national championship. Throughout our friendship and work together, he has continued to take on additional responsibilities. While he is in charge of recruiting, hitting and offensive planning, and developing the team, he has also done a tremendous job in our community outreach.”
In summer 2021, Koehler managed the Charlottesville Tom Sox in the prestigious Valley League in Virginia. He guided the Tom Sox to a 30-10 record in the 2021 regular season and was named the Maynard “Mo” Weber Manager of the Year. His overall record as manager of the Charlottesville Tom-Sox set an all-time record for wins in a regular season in the Valley Baseball League, which started in 1897. He also managed the South All-Stars in the Valley League AllStar game.
Beyond the baseball team, Koehler is the physical education instructor at the North Campus. He and his wife, Erika, have two sons, Keaton Jax and Kason Jett.
In his first year with San Jac, assistant coach Ricky Ramirez Jr. will focus on the outfielders but will also help with hitting and coaching first base.
Ramirez brings significant knowledge and experience to the field. His baseball career began as a four-year letterman at Deer Park High School, where he was named to the 5A allstate team, made the all-district first team three times, and was named the district MVP.
Ramirez played college ball at Alvin Community College and McNeese State University. The Alvin Dolphins took the 2014 conference championship, and his team at McNeese State won the 2017 Southland conference championship. In college, he was named to the first team all-conference while at Alvin Community College and as a senior at McNeese State was named to the South Central American Baseball Coaches Association’s all-region 2nd team.

Ramirez spent the 2018 season as the pitching coach at McNeese State before playing in the Frontier League with the Florence Y’alls.
“Ricky has proven to be a fantastic baseball mind,” Arrington said. “He is full of energy and loves working overtime with players. We are a better team with the addition of Ricky.”
Ramirez and his wife, Taylor, have one daughter, Stella.
“I am elated to have Jason return to our program,” said Head Coach Tom Arrington. “I wanted to take careful precautions adding a coach to my staff at mid-term, but with Jason, I have an abundance of respect and am very comfortable with him in our system and how we manage the players. Jason is very positive and has an enthusiastic approach to his development of the players.”
Jason Krug has returned to the San Jacinto College baseball program after a two-year hiatus and is entering his 12th season with the coaching staff.
Prior to joining the San Jacinto College program, he spent two seasons as a volunteer
assistant coach at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 2007, the Ragin Cajuns won the Sun Belt Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA regional tournament.
In December 2007, Krug was named head coach of the Edenton Steamers in the Coastal Plains Summer Collegiate League. During the summer of 2008, the Steamers won the first-half divisional championship with an overall record of 20-7. He was also named one of the head coaches for the 2008 Coastal Plains League All-Star game.
Krug was also an assistant coach at Southwestern University and worked as an instructor and coach for the Austin Wings, serving as the head coach for the 17-under premier showcase team. Other coaching stints include the 2000 AAU national finalist team and the 2001 Connie Mack state champions. In 2006, Krug led the Wings to the 17-andunder Premier National Championship. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Krug spent nine years teaching and coaching at the high school level.
Krug holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Missouri Valley College, where he was a two-sport athlete in baseball and football. He is also the tournament director for the prestigious Texas Premier League and the founder of C2 Baseball, a highly respected select organization that focuses on serving the less fortunate through baseball.
Troy Rabon has been the head athletic trainer for San Jacinto College baseball since 2018. Rabon earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. He went on to earn his master’s degree from Texas Tech Health Science Center in 2006. Rabon interned for the Dallas Cowboys in 1998, the Atlanta Braves in 2000, and the U.S. Olympic Track and Field teams in 2003 and 2004.
Before joining San Jac, Rabon worked with Florida A&M and Florida State universities for two years as an assistant athletic trainer. He first came to San Jac to be the head athletic trainer, working primarily with volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, and softball.

San Jacinto College is among the elite in promoting players into professional baseball. Since 2000, 99 San Jacinto College baseball players have been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft,
more than any other community college in the nation. Houston area baseball fans are well versed in the success of former players Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens, but the list does not end there.
