An actuator is a component which is responsible for inducing
mechanical movements to a device by converting energy from a source into mechanical movements. Whereas a positioner is a component generally fitted into a control valve which helps in controlling the activities of an actuator, generally opening and closing of actuator, based on predefined
conditions.
