2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Color sensors are photoelecric sensors which use light to digital (LTD), light to voltage (LTV) and light to frequency (LTF) methods to sense light and color. There are two basic color sensing systems: reflective and transmissive. In reflective sensing, the sensor detects the color of light reflected from a surface, while in transmissive sensing, the sensor detects the color of light from a light source. The Color Detection sensor market is crucial for the success of industry automation on a global scale. This market has been witnessing tremendous growth due to increasing industries and new technological advancements. Advanced Economies also maintain a stable growth mainly due to reimbursements offered for specific equipment and health policies of government and private entities. Portability, customization, ease of use, and automation are the key factors that Color Detection sensors market players use to differentiate their products and services. The Color Detection sensors equipment and services market is slated to grow at 5.9% year on year for the next five years. The market is estimated to reach $2.45bn by 2018

RGB sensors are used primarily in monitoring applications to check for consistency of color. Textiles, plastics, ceramics production and other products production which are based on continuous product processes use RGB sensors. These sensors split the light reflected from the product into red, green and blue components and check if each individual component is within the range of the tolerance level inputted. Hence they are an essential and widely used component in the production monitoring of plastics, tinted films, carpets, textiles, stained wood, packaging materials, automotive components, labels etc. Other sensor types like color or print mark sensors are effective in detecting colors at high speeds. They are mostly used for precision detection of color marks in printing processes, color registration mark verification, packaging, print to cut triangles for gluer-folder etc. Luminescence sensors are used in paint, grease, crayons, and gum, chalk, thread and adhesives industries. These sensors respond to luminescent tracers in a product which emit light in the visible spectrum

when expose to ultraviolet lighting. Contrast sensors are used mainly to detect registration marks and objects in general. They use red, green or both the colors to detect the contrast between the presence or absence of a mark or object. Brightness sensor measures the illumination intensity in a room and is used for building automation applications. They are also used for wet and dry end brightness grading, in-line process monitoring with spot sizes varying from 20mm to 200mm.
