“When I had total knee replacement surgery, I greatly appreciated the personal care and attention I received at Dameron Hospital. Dr. Victor Macko was my surgeon assisted by Dameron’s professional nursing staff. With the help of their entire medical team, I was back to my active lifestyle again in no time.”

Susie Perry - Dameron Hospital patient, and active grandmother Dameron Hospital accounts for over 90% of all orthopedic surgeries in San Joaquin County. In the past 10 years over 5,000 joint surgeries have been performed at Dameron. The Hospital is fully equipped with the highest level of medical technology in support of orthopedic procedures. As an independent community hospital, our goal is to be the hospital physicians prefer, patients request, and our employees choose to work.

Welcome to the Festival!

Welcome to the 26th Annual Stockton Asparagus Festival! We’ve got another exciting festival planned with great musical entertainment, performing dogs, sea lions, a hole-in-one golf competition, the incredible Velocity Circus, and much more. Use this festival guide for all the schedules and locations so you don’t miss a thing, like the great new Art & Wine craft show, or the Celebrity Kitchen. And don’t forget you’ll be eating the best asparagus in the world that’s grown right here in the Delta. So whether you enjoy your spears deep-fried, as a yummy ice cream, in a margarita, or in the new Foster Farms Chicken Aspara-Wrap, you’ll have plenty of variety to chow down on. Be sure to buy lots of food/beverage tickets because all proceeds benefit over 100 local non-profits; hard-working volunteers who show true “community spear-it!” To date, over $5.1 million has been donated to these charities. On behalf of the City of Stockton, our sponsors, committees, and volunteers — Welcome to the “Best of the West Food Fest.” Enjoy a wonderful time with your friends and family! farewell

Andy Prokop

The Head Spear Bids Farewell Since 1999, CEO of United Way of San Joaquin County, Andy Prokop, has been the “Head Spear” of Asparagus Alley; a title coined for him by fellow committee members. In his thirteen years as Head Spear, Andy has helped the festival grow from raising $50,000 to over $300,000 for local charities. Each year, he ensures that thousands of pounds of fresh food, utensils, cleaning supplies, and other important wares are at the festival, oversees the design and set-up of Asparagus Alley, and makes sure that the entire festival is “broom clean” by noon sharp on Monday. But this year will be Andy’s last festival as he prepares to hand down his position to Wes Rhea, Director of the Stockton Conference and Visitors Bureau. “Right now it seems good to have more fun and goof off,” says Andy. “Next year I’ll come to the festival as a guest, but I’ll be honoring those who are busting their butts and thanking them for it, and missing them too.” For Andy, the best part of the job has been working with the many wonderful people involved. “By the end of the day, you’re dog tired but you feel great. You think, I just made a contribution to help people live better. That’s why volunteers come back year after year. My job is to keep that attitude going and I love doing it.” Andy’s positive attitude and hard work have helped make the Asparagus Festival what it is today, and he is surely owed a heartfelt thanks for his many contributions over the years. We hope to see him at next year’s festival, enjoying it with his family.

Fun Facts: An asparagus spear can grow up to 10 inches in one day. At the first Asparagus Festival in 1986, 1,000 pounds of asparagus were consumed. Last year’s festival served over 35,000 orders of Deep-Fried Asparagus, 14,000 orders of Aspara-Pasta, 13,000 Aspara-Burritos and Aspara-Steak Sandwiches, and 2,000 orders of Aspara-Ice Cream. Last year the festival raised $361,574 for local charities. Over $5.1 million dollars have been raised for charity since the festival began.
