Mission to serve since1899. Dignity Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center opened its doors as St. Joseph’s Home and Hospital in December of 1899. Its founder, Father William B. O'Connor, collaborated with the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael to assist a local group of physicians in finding a suitable place to treat their medical and surgical patients with specialized care. As the population of Stockton and the surrounding towns increased, St. Joseph's grew alongside the community to meet the complexities and challenges of delivering quality health care—leading the way with firsts in cardiac, cancer, maternity, pediatrics, and emergency care services. Celebrating 125 years, St. Joseph's Medical Center is proud to serve the Stockton community. For more information, please visit dignityhealth.org/stockton.

from the publisher
EMBRACE THE NEW YEAR A
s the publisher of San Joaquin Magazine, I extend my warmest greetings to all our readers as we embrace the New Year with renewed vigor and determination. The arrival of a new year often brings with it a slew of resolutions, many of which, regrettably, fall by the wayside as the year progresses. This year, let us approach our health and wellness goals with a more realistic and sustainable mindset. It's crucial to remember that maintaining good health is not just a January endeavor but a year-round commitment. Small, incremental changes often lead to substantial long-term benefits. Whether it's incorporating a brisk walk into your daily routine, opting for healthier meal choices, or dedicating a few minutes each day to mindfulness and meditation, each step counts. Let's set achievable goals and celebrate each milestone, no matter how small. Moreover, with Super Bowl weekend rapidly approaching next month, many of us may enjoy escaping to this year’s host, Las Vegas, a haven for sports enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. This bustling city offers more than just an opportunity to revel in the excitement of the big game. It's a chance to immerse oneself in a plethora of activities– from exploring the vibrant nightlife and world-class entertainment to indulging in gastronomic delights and trying your luck at the casinos. This year, let's blend our commitments to health with the spirit of adventure and fun. Balance is key, and as we navigate through the year, let's remember to cherish the moments, savor the experiences, and most importantly, take care of ourselves and each other. Here's to a year of health, happiness, and unforgettable experiences!

and he gravitated toward physics at an early age. He has now become involved in some extraordinary research that may soon prove to be of the highest interest to the astronomical community and beyond. His earliest recollections of being interested in his eventual field of work were rooted in a special toy. Dusty says, “I had a toy of the NASA space shuttle that definitely put the U.S. space program on my radar. I remember my second grade teacher explaining to the class what a lightyear was and really giving me some special attention when I had some follow-up questions and expressed interest in space.” Once he learned what a lightyear was, the scale of space really sparked his interest in a way that both scared and fascinated Dusty. He recalls being overwhelmed by the infinite nature of the universe. “I remember my parents

tremendously in the past few decades. More recently, Dusty points to the detection of a double neutron star merger by the LIGO/ Virgo collaboration. “LIGO had already detected gravitational waves from the merger of two black holes, but there were some people in the scientific community who doubted the veracity of those first claims,” explains Dusty. “This event removed all doubt because the gravitationalwave detection was accompanied by simultaneous detections using more well-tested, conventional types of astronomy.” Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves nearly a century ago, and this discovery was proof of that. Looking toward the horizon of astrophysics is also exciting for Dusty. He indicates that there could be discoveries in the areas of dark matter and dark energy. Although he says they don’t know exactly what they are, there is strong evidence that they exist and are important in the way the universe works. Dusty’s own work research with the NANOGrav collaboration recently discovered something exciting. “We just "I strongly suspect that announced a within the next decade— milestone maybe within just a couple detection of years—we'll detect an of the individual source of these background gravitational waves, a pair hum of taking me and my of supermassive black lightyears-long best friend to Lick holes closely orbiting each gravitational waves. Strumming Along
UKELELE PLAYERS UNITE TO GIVE BACK BY SAM ALLEN
I
magine walking into a social hall full of vibrant people. They are all smiling, and you hear tinkling sounds that make you smile, too. Suddenly, the group starts strumming the instruments they’re cradling— ukuleles. You sing and laugh for a couple of hours, and as you pack up your own instrument, you feel uplifted and revived.

DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE THERAPY? That’s what Monday Therapy, a Stockton group of ukelele players, 25 of whom show up to any given session, do for themselves and for each other. Sit, strum, laugh, and play. But they’ve also started performing for local groups, sharing their love of ukulele with the community.
HOW DID THE MONDAY THERAPY GROUP BEGIN? Clair Trujillo, a longtime member who learned to play the ukelele at the Stockton Institute for Continued Learning, says it was pretty random. “I didn’t plan on playing the ukelele in my retirement.” “A group of us got together in Grupe Park for the love of playing ukelele, and to develop our skills to be better players.” Sessions are lighthearted. “We’re just playing for ourselves for fun, so we can be a little silly. In fact, another member and I led a whole set on kazoo’s and ukeleles. That was called ‘the silly songs set.’” Some of the members of Monday Therapy take their instruments into the community. Calling themselves the Strumingos, Trujillo and her uke mates play at assisted living centers in Stockton and Lodi. The group uses the donations they receive to purchase lyric sheets and wooden
instruments for the residents to play along on. “Because we like to have sing-alongs at our performances, we prefer to have people participate in what we’re doing.” Everything from tambourines to the spoons can make an appearance at a Strumingos set. Trujillo has been personally touched by the way music is a form of therapy. When her late father was in the last stages of Parkison’s, he laughed so hard that he and Trujillo cried when he heard her rough rehearsal of The Drifters’ “Under the Boardwalk.” Monday Therapy also uses donations to repay the community centers they meet in for lighting, for paper products that members might use, and other expenses.

Investing in Stockton’s Youth THE STOCKTON CITY COUNCIL DOLED OUT $2 MILLION IN GRANT MONEY LAST YEAR BY NORA HESTON TARTE
T
he Stockton City Council has focused its efforts on expanding youth services throughout Stockton. Following a board approval of $2 million to be distributed to local nonprofits last May, the list of gifts was officially announced in late 2023. Now the funds are trickling in and local nonprofits geared toward serving the city’s youth are expanding using the funds. In all, 14 different organizations received funds ranging from $52,500 to $225,000 (chosen from 36 proposals). With $19 million in requested funds, the $2 million gifted reflects the projects the board felt were most important to fund at this time and all of the projects focused on youth.

All monetary donations were in the form of grants. The approval falls in line with the four priorities the Council set for 2023: work with partners to improve quality of life, increase literacy, develop the workforce, and expand youth programming. Funds were approved for everything from expanding necessary services at shelters that serve women and children to funding teen centers that will double as safe and social spaces for the area’s teens. While the groups work to implement their projects based on the proposals given in 2023, the City Council is hopeful they will be able to offer a similar program again this year, benefitting other nonprofits and funding additional project proposals. `

Centennial Year THE GRAND THEATRE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS BY NORA HESTON TARTE / D BY PETER LIPPMAN & BILL WOOD

T
he historic Grand Theatre in Tracy originally opened on August 11, 1923 as a vaudeville half-house. It was the vision of Tracy entrepreneur John C. Droge, and in its heyday in the 1930s and 1940s, the theatre received an Art Deco remodel. It served as an eclectic movie house for decades, hosting community events and occasional live performances before it closed
in 1977. In the 1990s, however, the theatre was revitalized. “Citizens and community leaders engaged in visionary collaborations that would ultimately create the pathway for the Grand Theatre to be reborn,” says Amanda Trask, marketing coordinator. “The Grand was reopened as part of a municipal, interdisciplinary art center that is owned and operated by the
City of Tracy and managed by the Cultural Arts Division in the City Manager’s Office on September 15, 2007,” Amanda explains. “The Grand Theatre Center for the Arts is a unique facility in the state of California offering professional and community-based fine arts programming through arts education, exhibitions, performances, and rentals of all kinds.”
UPCOMING EXHIBITION
Working toward presenting in spring 2024, the Grand will present Artists by Artists – Tracy’s Creative Community Past and Present, curated by Tiffanie Heben. This unique exhibition (March 16 – May 11, 2024) will celebrate Tracy’s history with contemporary artists, in conjunction with the Tracy Historical Museum, and is supported by a grant from the City of Tracy/Tracy Arts Commission – 2023 Granting Program.

To celebrate the centennial year, The Grand brought back favorite annual performances and crowd pleasers including The Nutcracker, performed by Central West Ballet, An Irish Christmas, The Wildcards, and the Stockton Symphony. The theatre also welcomed a series of centennial specific performances, kicking off with When You Wish Upon a Star, a jazz tribute to 100 years of Disney, in September and continuing with both April’s Triplets of Belleville, a caper involving American gangsters, and Gatsby Redux, a Mixed eMotion Theatrix moving production that uses music, dance, theater, and multi-media to bring a stunning The Great Gatsby-inspired event to life in May.
“We also have our monthly comedy nights with The Comedy Zone, which features some of the hottest comedians in the country, and our popular Open Mic Nights,” Amanda says. And, The Grand is staying true to its roots, offering up holiday movies, including 10 Things I Hate About You for Valentine’s Day and Freedom Writers during the “Tracy Arts Month” in April. “Our goal is to entertain, educate, enlighten, energize, and economically support downtown Tracy,” Amanda says. “[The Grand team is] thrilled to be part of this legacy.”

RECOMMITTING TO WORKING OUT
So, you haven’t worked out for a while and you’re pumped to get back in the game? That’s great news! A spark of ambition is all you need to begin your journey toward looking your very best. That, and a little bit of time, patience, and commitment. Of course, let’s not forget some helpful advice from an instructor or two. These people are experts on the workout floor and their job is to help you figure out the plan that suits your ever-increasing potential. An instructor will normally ask you to take a brief survey on your current fitness goals. They’ll send you through a routine that will assess your level of fitness and will prescribe the right personally shaped program for you. But before

you run off to begin your second calling as an Olympiangymnast, remember: You’ve been out of the ring for a while. Your workout should begin as a gradual and full-bodied process. A careful and consistent routine will keep you from inflicting unnecessary injuries. Don’t be afraid to take those breaks, either. It will give your body the time it needs to repair anything you’ve broken down, making it that much stronger.
“When people begin Crossfit 209 Sport, it is a very basic, slow process of learning proper mechanics (technique) for the foundational movements: squat, deadlift, press. People underestimate how out of shape they are and can be at risk for injury if they go too hard... The main goal is [to] regain some basic fitness, especially in joint mobility,” – Gbae Subry, Crossfit 209 Sport 46

OVERCOME INEVITABLE PLATEAUS
It’s never fun when you’ve hit a wall during your workout. It’s even less fun when you’ve spent needless time and effort trying to get over that hurdle with nothing to show for it. Luckily, there are some sure-fire ways to turn the tides and take your fitness routine up a level. Try switching up your training regimen and go for something a little different. The same old routine done month after month will only keep your body hustling for so long. Adjust your exercises every couple of months or so and you’ll notice some major changes in how your body reacts. This can range from a simple change in what exercise goes first or can mean a whole new method provided by your instructor.

REDUCE STRESS TO ACHIEVE GOALS
Many of us have experienced a stress headache. After all, all those late night deadlines, business meetings, and venom-infused phone calls with the boss do add up. But not to worry, because we’re here to help you slow it down and put everything back into perspective. Your first step? Pick your passion. Because, as our experts can attest, getting out and getting active is the perfect solution to seeing some of that stress slip right off your shoulders. So, if you’re the dancing queen, get down with your bad self. Interested in taking things a little slower? Catch your breath with a few gentler yoga moves or the soft, steady steps of Tai Chi Chuan. These exercise styles and so many more are perfect for forcing concentration onto what you’re doing in the here and now, providing a powerful outlet for all those pent up frustrations.

HUSTLE FOR THE MUSCLE
It’s time to pump it up and proudly display those pythons for all to see. Because when you’re hitting the gym in all the right ways, you’ll be plenty happy to provide directions with a perfect point of the finger. Eager to begin? Then get ready to break it down. Building up muscles starts the moment you begin tearing them apart. Really! During your workout, you’re straining and breaking down these crucial aspects of yourself so that they can begin anew. And by taking time to rest after your workouts you’re allowing your body time to gather up the essential nutrients it needs to build your muscles back up. Consider rest days and active recovery part of your overall routine. And, make sure you’re feeding yourself an ample amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to keep your machine in fine form.
“Movements like the squat, deadlift, and bench press will add the most mass. [The workout] just needs to be intense and heavy. Then, most importantly, the athlete needs to eat “Motivation to start working out tons of calories!” in the new year often stems from
setting realistic goals and finding activities you genuinely enjoy—and there is a ton to choose from at In-Shape. Also, having a workout buddy or joining a supportive community, like a weekly Zumba class or VTL Training session, can provide the extra push needed to stay consistent,” - Shane Harris, InShape Family Fitness

health LEAN INTO WHAT’S FUN
If you aren’t too keen on hitting the stepper machine and even mentioning the word “burpee” makes your toes curl, perhaps you’re more inclined to mix a bit of fun into your fitness routine. Take Zumba, for example. This dynamic dance routine has been a sensation ever since its conception. Get a bundle of buddies together and take on the Zumba challenge! You’ll be having too much fun to worry about how long you’ve been going strong. If busting a move totally bums your groove, try taking a dip, instead. The benefits of paddling around in the pool, even if you’re just staying afloat in the deep end, are enormous. You’ll be taking it easy on your joints while burning those extra calories.

THE BIG GAME If you were lucky enough to score tickets to this year’s Super Bowl, you’ll want to fly in early to take advantage of the festivities. While the big game will happen on Sunday, February 11, opening night is scheduled for February 5. The first big event is a Gatoradesponsored opening night at Allegiant Stadium, with $30 tickets that make visiting the home of Super Bowl LVIII a lot more accessible. Opening Night is the only public appearance by coaches and staff leading into the big game, and the event will also include family-friendly activities, photo opportunities, exclusive merchandise, and autographs from NFL players. Resorts World centric theme park for fanatics. This family-friendly event offers the chance to collect autographs from current and past players, shop official merchandise, and participate in interactive games including youth football clinics. Guests can also take photos with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, compete in a 40-yard dash against NFL players, and see all 57 Super Bowl rings in person. Several other ticketed events throughout the week make a visit to Las Vegas leading up to the Super Bowl a worthy trip, even if you aren’t staying for the big game. The Super Bowl Soulful Celebration will be at Palms Casino Resort while Taste of the NFL takes place at the Keep Memory Alive Center. The entire
week is packed full of philanthropic efforts, award ceremonies, and chances to get up close and personal with your favorite coaches and players.
WHERE TO WATCH Just because you don’t have seats inside of Allegiant Stadium doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the rowdy atmosphere of Las Vegas during the Super Bowl. The city is packed with sports bars serving up delicious grub alongside plenty of larger-than-life TVs. One of our favorites is Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar inside of the Mandalay Bay (which just so happens to hold the walkway from the strip to Allegiant Stadium). This hyper sports bar is a staple for

before and after game days. With giant, wall-sized projection screens and a collection of moderate-sized televisions throughout, you don’t have to miss any game while grubbing on elevated bar food (think ahi tuna tartare tacos, spinach crab dip, a double waygu smash burger, Atlantic salmon, and flat iron steak served with romesco sauce). Game days are always a riot at The Dawg House at Resorts World. This highenergy saloon and sports book opens early when there’s something to watch so you won’t even need to miss those European home games while you’re in town. Seats have a minimum spend during peak hours, but with a mix of breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the menu, you
you can’t go wrong with a Mac Daddy Fried Chicken Sandwich boasting crispy pounded chicken breast, mac n’ cheese, bacon, and hot sauce all served over a garlic-buttered brioche bun. The Pepperoni Pizza Pops are another menu standout. Created with crispy puff pastries oozing pepperoni and provolone cheese. Dip into the pepperonimarina sauce for a flavor combination better than pizza. Perhaps the best place to watch any game in town is at Circa Stadium Swim. The over-the-top swimming pool(s) is equipped with a digital sportsbook, a 40-foot screen, and table games. Not to mention, drinks and food can be delivered right to your cabana. Does February sound cold? Have no fear—Circa heats its six pools set over three levels to hot tub temperatures in Vegas’ colder months. Keep in mind, big games, like this one, are ticketed events, and not only the pool but the entire property is 21+. Inside, the atmosphere at Circa is always won’t go hungry—or thirsty— while watching football or any other sport you fancy. Also in Resorts World, Redtail combines epic, oversized screens with bar games including a giant version of beer pong and (regular-sized) arcade basketball. Hearty fare includes Nashville-style chicken sandwiches, chicken wings, poke nachos, and fish and chips. Wash it all down with hefty mugs of beer (are you seeing a pattern here?) and cozy into a comfy couch for the afternoon. Another sports bar, with a celebrity chef at the helm, is Flavortown Sports Kitchen at the Horseshoe. Top Golf sports-heavy, with central bars and slot machines surrounding the sportsbook. All over Las Vegas, bottles of commemorative 1800 Tequila will be for sale. Check your favorite liquor store to pick up a Raidersthemed bottle to party with.
WHEN YOU’RE NOT WATCHING SPORTS What do sports fanatics do in Las Vegas when they aren’t watching the game? Get in on the action themselves of course. Las Vegas expertly combines the high-energy, competitive nature of sports with the laidback, social aspect of a bar. Top Golf at MGM Grand is one way to blow off some energy, all while throwing back a few drinks. The high-level experience is arcade meets driving range, gamifying golf so the whole family can play. Some days, the top deck pool is even open so you can swim while you watch others swing. Expert Tip: If
you’re hungry, Fight Club don’t sleep on the nachos. Quickly skyrocketing to one of my favorite Las Vegas activities, Flight Club at the Venetian Resort does what Top Golf did for golf, for darts. The digital dart boards offer up screens that keep score automatically and provide various game play options for up to 12, and instant replays. Guests book their own lanes and sip and eat as they play, and probably do a bit of trash talking. If you want to hang around after your time is up, take a seat at the centerpiece carousel bar. The menu boasts fun and flirty cocktails named for various exotic animals as
well as beer, wine, and canned drinks. The food also stands up, with an international menu heavy in shareables such as mini poke tacos, lobster elote dip, tandoori chicken skewers, and pork lumpia. Monday through Friday from 4-6 PM is happy hour. Area 15 is another mecca for sports fans. Inside, you’re transported to a slightly alien, black-lit world featuring food, drinks, and shops (plus the famous Omega Mart attraction by Meow Wolf) alongside axe throwing, a golf simulator, and VR games. Outside, the newer Liftoff attraction offers drinks with a view—on a slow-speed, air balloon-style ride that turns to allow for 360 degree views of Las Vegas. Tip: If you’re afraid of heights, there’s a bar at the base. Or you can sip rum-based cocktails in a trippy circus environment across the parking lot at Lost Spirits Distillery.
ALLEGIANT STADIUM Allegiant Stadium is perhaps best known as the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, but this domed multi-purpose stadium that opened in 2020 is also home to concerts, college football, and more. Inside, the history of the Raiders is on display from the eternal flame built in Al Davis’ memory to jerseys commemorating Hall of Famers that once played for the team. An Allegiant SJMAG.COM

Stadium tour not only shares the inner workings of the stadium, but there is also a drink with a view package available that allows guests to have a seat upstairs and check out the Las Vegas strip from the retractable windows. You’ll also gain access to parts of the stadium only available to VIPs and season ticket holders, plus you’ll get to step inside the owner’s suite. Fun fact: the field isn’t a permanent fixture inside of the stadium. Instead, because the Raiders play on real grass, the lawn is left outside and wheeled in prior to game days. Our personal goal is now to watch a game inside of the Wynn Field Club. Sponsored by Wynn Las Vegas, this nightclub environment offers bottle service as well as standing room next to the field.
OTHER SPORTS When it isn’t football season, Las Vegas’ sports fans still have plenty to see and do. In addition to new F1 racing, the 2023 Stanley Cup Champions have their stadium on the strip and T-Mobile is open for

raucous Vegas Golden Knights games. There is also the Las Vegas Lights FC and the Las Vegas Aviators minor league baseball team. In a few years, the city plans to add the Las Vegas Athletics to its list of home teams, further cementing its status as a sportscentric destination.
WHERE TO STAY Las Vegas is overflowing with quality, luxury accommodations. Those high-rise hotels both on the strip and off offer thousands of rooms for visitors. If you’re coming for football, however, we recommend staying near the action. Mandalay Bay keeps you close to the stadium and plenty of fans will be gathered here for pre-Super Bowl festivities. Resorts World, though further away geographically, is close to some of the best bars for watching any game. At Circa, it’s all sports all the time, and the opportunity to watch a game at Stadium Swim shouldn’t be passed up.

FOOD AND DRINK PAIRINGS AT TEQUILEROS CANTINA BY NORA HESTON TARTE / D BY DAN HOOD

hether it’s Taco Tuesday or a Friday night, a craving for Mexican food can hit at any time. And what’s better than pairing those savory yet simple dishes with an ice cold beverage? At Tequileros Cantina patrons can grub on the same classic menu offered at Tequileros Taqueria, which started as a food truck, plus some additional fare. “Cantina is a special location because it carries our same street food menu with a modern and elegant atmosphere,” says Owner Edgar Gomez. “Our concept is for you to be able to go enjoy some tacos or burritos with a cold beer in a clean modern place and not over spend.” While Cantina is one of seven

locations spread throughout Lodi, Stockton, Galt, and Elk Grove (all opened within the last two years), it is the only one with a beer and wine license. It also features items not on the other menus, like fish tacos and desserts including churro donuts with ice cream. “My favorite are the tequileros tacos,” says Edgar. “It’s a blend of melted cheese crust over a tortilla with your choice of protein and our signature sauces.” What makes digging into a pile of Tequilero Fries—crispy fries stacked with your choice of meat, topped with cheese, sour cream, onion, and cilantro, and drizzled with your favorite hot sauce, ranging from mild to hot,
and the signature Tequilero sauce—even better is washing it down with an ice cold beer. “We have favorite Mexican beers and a few domestic,” Edgar shares. But a beer and wine license doesn’t mean the restaurant is limited to just those two kinds of drinks. In addition to soft drinks and other nonalcoholic options, the Cantina also serves Micheladas, mimosas, and slushies finished with a tajin rim.

PERFECT PAIRINGS NACHOS WITH A DRAFT BEER. Tequileros Cantina serves their beer both on draft and bottled. Draft selections include many classic Mexican options, such as Modelo and Negro Modelo, Pacifico, Corona, and Dos Equis. The Tequilero Nachos are served in a metal tray, brimming with chunks of tender meat, overflowing with melted cheese, and piled high with sour cream, onion, cilantro, hot sauce, and that signature Tequilero sauce all atop a bed of crispy chips.
QUESABIRRIA TACOS WITH A MICHELADA. A michelada is a classic Mexican drink made with a beer base and added lime juice, sauces, spices, and chili peppers. It’s almost like a Bloody Mary that uses beer instead of vodka. Pair it with the menu’s Quesabirria Tacos. Made with shredded beef, these tacos are stuffed with melted cheese, onions, cilantro, and hot sauce. What makes quesabirria special is the dipping broth it comes with, which pairs nicely with the spicy flavors of the michelada.
FISH TACOS AND A SLUSHIE. Any tacos will pair well with one of these slushies, but the fish tacos are extra special for a few reasons. First of all, they are one of the few menu items only available at the Cantina. Secondly, the light and flaky fish feels summery alongside a peach, mango, or margarita flavored wine slushie. Served with chips and guacamole or salsa.
TACO TEQUILERO WITH A DRAFT BEER. Edgar’s personal favorite, this taco is made with your choice of meat, a toasted blend of cheeses that offer a slightly smoked flavor, cilantro, onions, and tequileros sauce. The final product is a flavorful, stuffed taco, dripping with delectable ingredients. The crisp taste of a light beer will compliment the dish well, and also help to cut any spice. We recommend going with one of the classics mentioned above, but there is also Sierra Nevada, Coors Light, and Blue Moon to choose from.
HUEVOS RANCHEROS WITH A MIMOSA. On Saturdays and Sundays only, the Cantina serves brunch, and that includes two classic dishes: Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles. The first is a fried tortilla complete with whole beans, eggs any style, queso cotija, onion, cilantro, red sauce, sour cream, Tequilero sauce, and salsa ranchero that pairs well with morning’s favorite cocktail—a mimosa. Winter Wines from McManis Family Vineyards WHAT TO SIP THIS SEASON BY NORA HESTON TARTE
S
tumped on what wines to pair with the post-holiday season? From celebratory sparklings to full-bodied reds, we have a lineup from McManis Family Vineyards to compliment the chilly outdoor weather. Starting last August, McManis offers direct-toconsumer purchasing on their website, including shipping throughout the state, so now if you can’t make your way to their River Road office, you can still enjoy their wines every season.
SPARKLING BRUT
CHARDONNAY
Wine can’t be called champagne unless it’s made in the Champagne region of France, but McManis is committed to using the traditional medthode champenoise to make their celebratory sparkler. Using certified sustainable fruit, the end product is lively and refreshing with just a bit of residual sugar to add depth.
Another estate-grown gem, this chardonnay can be enjoyed alongside food or on its own. Boasting flavors of stone fruit, vanilla, banana, and buttered popcorn, the end result is rich and decadent. The vines for this wine are grown in the River Junction AVA, where cooler temperatures create the ideal climate for chardonnay.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON McManis’ best seller, this garnet-red wine offers aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and black cherries, plus a hint of smoke. Dark fruit flavors permeate the palate, presenting a round finish with creamy tannins for this medium-bodied red.
PINOT NOIR
ZINFANDEL
This award-winning Pinot Noir was recently ranked #28 on Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s list of 100 Best Buys for 2022. Perfect for a lighter red this season, this wine is aromatic and flavorful, bright with red fruit. Enjoy sweet hints of vanilla and a smooth, lingering finish.
Lodi is known for producing quality zinfandel, and this McManis production is no different. Dark purple in color, prepare for a combination of warm flavors including ripe red currant, strawberry, caramelized sugar, and toasted oak.

There is also a trio of benedicts available, including ham, smoked salmon, and vegetarian.
IF YOU STILL WANT IT SWEET… Nesrin’s other breakfast specialties include pancakes topped with salted caramel, pecan, bananas, and cream; cinnamon roll French toast served alongside eggs, bacon, and sausage; and Nesrin’s Favorite, two slices of thick French toast topped with homemade icing, fresh fruit, and a caramel drizzle.

But if you came with a lighter appetite, you can also choose a salad for lunch, although those are filling, too. A favorite is the Nutty Bleu Salad, made with bleu cheese, cranberries, glazed pecans, bacon, and chicken, before its drizzled with raspberry vinaigrette.
