W edding Tips

WAYS TO CELEBRATE CHOOSING THE RIGHT WEDDING VENUE

 BY NORA HESTON TARTE

A church or a country club, a barn or a private home, a vineyard or a waterfront plaza. There are plenty of places to say ‘I Do’ to your partner, but how do you know which one is for you? Read up on our favorites and it just might give you a clue. (Pssstttt they’re all local, too!)

CHURCH

For some, there is just no beating the tradition of a wedding in a house of worship. Many churches open their doors to both members and strangers. Many love this option because it tends to save money on both venue and decorations while also providing a meaningful ceremony for those who practice one religion. There may, however, be some restrictions dependent on the location. Local pick: Morris Chapel at University of the Pacific.

1 2 GOLF COURSE Golf courses offer serene settings for outdoor affairs, and many boast indoor accommodations, as well. Choose a golf course for the perks—free golf for the wedding party, anyone?—or ease of access. Brides love it because the grounds are kept in impeccable shape and the facilities are set up for hosting big events. Local Picks: Stockton Golf & Country Club and Brookside Country Club are great wedding day hosts.

VINEYARDS BARN If farmhouse chic is your personal style, a rustic barn wedding is right up your ally. Nestled amongst the vines in the heart of wine country, Lodi barns offer sweeping views of nearby vineyards with country charm inside and out. Plus, many of these sites sit at wineries, which means you won’t have to go far to stock the bar. Local picks: Bare Ranch at Michael David Winery and Oak Farm Vineyards. Our suggestion: Add elegant touches like candelabras and chandeliers.

Several of the wineries throughout Lodi double as event spaces prime for romantic affairs. Snap just married photos as you stroll through the vines on picturesque properties and enjoy a two-in-one location for ceremony and reception. The ambiance will cater to brides and grooms who want to embrace nature during the big day without sacrificing highend comforts for guests. Local picks: Viaggio Estate & Winery, Durst Winery & Estate, and Mettler Vineyard are awe-inspiring.

WATERFRONT PLAZA One of the best perks of living in Stockton is the city’s proximity to the waterfront. By going with a hotel, guests will be able to stay and play in the same spot, which is safer for those who want to celebrate late into the night. Plus, it often keeps guests on-site to prolong the party, a serous upside for those who want an all-night affair. Local Pick: The University Plaza Waterfront Hotel in Stockton.

BACKYARD BASH If you’re having a smaller affair, getting married in your childhood backyard—or the backyard of someone else—provides both intimacy and affordability. If it’s your home or the home of someone you love, there is a personal connection that can’t be duplicated. Plus, these venues typically don’t have a lot of restrictions the way commercial properties might. The biggest hurdle may be ensuring there is enough space for guests, so plan seating arrangements ahead of time.

6

7

ELOPE An elopement may be for you if you’re looking to get married quickly, want a destination wedding without the overthe-top planning, are okay with getting married without your family and friends in attendance, or if you want to forgo time-consuming wedding planning. Head to nearby chapels in Sacramento, Reno, Las Vegas, or San Francisco and make a weekend of it.

9

COURTHOUSE WEDDING This no-frills affair is a good way to get ‘er done without all of the expense and hoopla of a more traditional wedding. However, it doesn’t have to be in-n-out either. Don’t rush the day. Get dressed up, invite your closet friends or family, and plan a celebration at a nearby restaurant after you say ‘I do.’ Courthouse weddings are affordable and fast—a good way to skip the planning if it isn’t your cup of tea. There are time restrictions on many of these offerings though. Local picks: Stockton, Manteca, and Tracy courthouses all offer weddings by appointment.

8

DESTINATION WEDDING Want to roll your wedding and honeymoon all into one? Planning a destination wedding gives your loved ones an excuse to vacation with you and toast to your nuptials. This is a great idea for brides and grooms with a serious sense of wanderlust. Keep in mind that your guest list may be limited by a destination affair for those who cannot afford to or are otherwise unable to travel. One great perk: you can go anywhere you want!

10 BALLPARK Don’t let tradition limit your dreams. For sports fans, weddings can happen on the giant lawns at Big League Dreams in Manteca. The wide-open space allows for big guest lists seated on a baseball diamond. Waltz around the bases for your first dance and mingle with family and friends outdoors.

WEDDING TRENDS TO WATCH  BY NORA HESTON TARTE

Every year the creative minds in the wedding industry outdo themselves, coming up with new crazes for brides to fall in love with. There are countless ways to show your friends that you have your hand on the pulse of what’s cool in weddings. Check out five of the top trends for weddings in 2020.

SPRING 2020

SAN JOAQUIN WEDDINGS

1

SUSTAINABILITY

This is the trend that keeps on growing. Brides and grooms are becoming more environmentally conscience, leading to weddings with smaller carbon footprints. Make it work: recycle family heirlooms, cater farm to table, reuse florals, choose vendors that support sustainability, or shop thrift.

2

MAGICAL LIGHTING

Lighting can dictate the mood of a reception or ceremony, from mood lighting to extra strands, create a space that says ‘hey, this party is lit!’ Make it work: Choose candlelight for intimate affairs, twinkling overhead string lights for outdoor parties, or hanging light strands for a big impact. Do it local: Our friends at K& T Lights are experts.

3

Seats Up to 320 Guests

Additional Banquet Rooms for Groups from 20 to 50

Beautifully Appointed

EDIBLE FLORALS

Flowers look gorgeous at a wedding, and brides are finding new ways to incorporate them into their big day. Think outside of the bouquet to master this trend. Make it work: Freeze blooms in ice cubes to serve with cocktails, or work them into the cake. The trick is to use the right type of flowers (ones that are indeed edible) such as roses, hibiscus, lavender, violets, and sage flowers.

4

The Delta Ballroom

Sleeping Rooms to Pamper your Out of Town Guests

LUXURY CHARCUTERIE

Cheese and meat boards are no longer simple snacks. Trade out your passed hors d'oeuvre and crudités platters for an over-the-top charcuterie board to really wow guests. Make it work: Overload the table with meats, cheese, fruits, dips, nuts, and other accompaniments. This trend works best with an extravagant display and plenty of nibbling options.

5

BLUE HUES

Brides aren’t the only ones embracing a more colorful wedding day attire. Grooms can break tradition, too. Black tuxedos have long been a staple, but in 2020 grooms are gravitating away from blacks and greys in favor of shades of blue. Make it work: Choose a blue hue that compliments the wedding colors such as navy, midnight, teal, or cornflower.

Check out our guide to the best western desert locations for romance.

Traveling to Arizona from San Joaquin County is surprisingly easy. Allegiant Air offers inexpensive flights between Stockton and Phoenix every week. A short drive from the main metro, Sedona explodes with giant red rock formations in the high desert, punctuated by towering green juniper trees.

and appointed rooms brimming with quirky charm. Here, choose activities such as stargazing and yoga before walking the Moroccan-inspired grounds handin-hand. Heated pools, a waterfall-fed jacuzzi, nightly movies, and afternoon tea provide plenty of on-site experiences for couples who want to cozy up postnuptial.

Romantic hotels are as abundant as red sand in Sedona. Over-the-top accommodations are offered at L’Auberge de Sedona while more modest rooms that still offer some je ne sais quoi, are available at Sedona Rouge Hotel and Amara Resort and Spa. The trick is to choose which vibe appeals to you best—a saltwater pool built in the shade of the surrounding rock formations, oversized suites with in-room fireplaces, or a rooftop terrace with sweeping views.

Sedona, AZ

What to do:

Choose a hotel and rent a cabana to waste the day away in. Here you can curl up with a book, or each other, and revel in your newly wedded bliss—cocktails sold separately! Or, go out and explore. Palm Springs is a hub for worthy museums appreciating subjects from architecture to contemporary art. If pop culture interests you, book a celebrity home tour to view over-the-top homes from some of California’s most infamous residents. The Celebrity Grand Tour (PalmSpringsCelebrityTours.com) takes guests past 50-60 celebrity homes including those owned by Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and Bob Hope—to name a few. Spend leisurely evenings over long meals at upscale boutique hotel restaurants, stargazing from a hot tub, and strolling hand-in-hand through the city’s best shopping hotspots.

What to do:

After you’ve exhausted the on-site amenities at your hotel, from couples massages and facials to pools and hot tubs, head out for adventure. Jeep tours proffer views of the more infamous formations including Bell Cathedral and Coffee Pot, while those who prefer to explore on their own can rent mountain bikes. Stay in the theme of opulence by opting for a tee time or tennis match at a nearby court. An evening sky tour offers a celestial adventure for those who want to gaze into each other’s eyes while sipping wine and hearing tales of the milky way through Sedona Stargazing (EveningSkyTours.com). For an experience unlike any other visit the Out of Africa Wild Animal Park in neighboring town Camp Verde.

National Park Nuptials

 BY FAITH LEWIS / D MARTIN NGO, MARTIN NGO PHOTOGRAPHY

HOW TO TIE THE KNOT IN CALIFORNIA’S NATIONAL PARKS From seaside bluffs to mountain tops, California

couples have no shortage of natural wonders to call upon as back drops for their big day. But for those with a go-big-or-go-home vision for their wedding, there’s no topping national park nuptials. California is home to nine of the country’s 60 plus national parks. While Yosemite is the closest to San Joaquin County (only a 2 ½-hour drive from Stockton), couples shouldn’t be too quick to dismiss other parks in their search for the perfect venue. Parks like Redwood National and State Park and Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parks could make for a less-trafficked venue.

54

SPRING 2020

|

SAN JOAQUIN WEDDINGS

Of course, there are a lot more than the crowds to consider before deciding on a national park wedding as well as which park to choose. Keep in mind the setting isn’t conducive to an over the top, glamorous, or large wedding. Instead, this is the perfect place for an intimate ceremony, especially well-suited to adventurous souls. Plan on packing your hiking boots to get those pictures and let nature provide the décor.

KNOW THE RULES:

Events hosted in a National Park are strictly regulated and weddings are no exception. Specific regulations vary from park to park, but you can expect to have a strictly enforced limit on how many guests can

attend, what décor (if any) can be used, and exactly where the ceremony can take place. Parks place the cap anywhere from 15 to 30 guests for most locations, with a select few areas allowing larger parties up to 100 people for an additional fee. No matter the size of your guest list, you’ll need to apply for a special event permit. Also, receptions cannot be held in park picnic areas but are welcome at an in-park concessioner facilities (hotels or lodges) or at your location of choice outside the park. Expert Tip: If you have your heart set on a large ceremony, you’re not completely out of luck. Contact the park’s lodge or hotel to see if your event can be accommodated there.

PICK THE PERFECT SPOT:

You’ll want the most iconic vista for your “I do,” but tourists want to hit the same spots. Each national park’s website will have specific information on where ceremonies can be held and other helpful information to help you pick the perfect place. However, it is recommended that you scope out your preferred ceremony spot in person before applying for your event permit. Also think of the guest list when you pick your spot. If your guest list in-

cludes older family members and friends, be sure to consider the accessibility of a wedding in the park before making your final decision. While many photographers are happy to travel for your ceremony, in this case you might be better off hiring a local photographer who – quite literally – knows the lay of the land. Rely on them to show you the less popular, yet equally photogenic sites.

GET YOUR PERMIT:

You can apply for a special use permit starting a year in advance and no later than a month before the event. Applications are honored on a first come, first serve basis: once a location is booked, it’s off the table. It can take up to a month or more to process a request, so be sure to send in your request well ahead of time to avoid any unnecessary heartache. The permit is nonrefundable and the price will depend on the park and size of your party.

DITCH THE DÉCOR:

Once you have your spot secured, it’s time to turn your attention to the wedding day aesthetics. But, let’s face it, you won’t have much to do. Anyone who has felt the mist coming off Yosemite Falls or walked through the shade of towering, centuries old redwood trees will know there is little you could add to improve the setting. Even Joshua Tree National Park, with its prickly, Seussian fauna, can make for a whimsical setting. “The best advice I can give a couple looking to have a ceremony in a national park is to plan a ‘minimalist’ style wedding,” says Beth Hartwood, Permit Coordinator at Redwood National and State Parks. Décor regulations are strict in the parks anyway: no arches, alters, seating, balloons, confetti, rice, etc. So, let Mother Nature do the heavy lifting and embrace the au naturale look for your big day.

FOOTLOOSE &

Phone-Free LOSE THE TECH WITHOUT THE STRESS  BY FAITH LEWIS

Modern day weddings come with modern day problems. But despite brides’

polite requests that phones remain off during the ceremony, it’s incredibly hard – and awkward – to enforce the rule with friends and family who think they’re helping preserve the memories of the special day. Phone-free weddings are becoming more common, but guests may still unfortunately disregard your request or think it can’t possibly apply to them. Here are some ways you can head off the tech tantrums.

EARLY AND OFTEN

Make your intentions to have an unplugged wedding known early on. Make note of it on the save the date, wedding invitation, wedding website, and any other notices you send guests. The more they see it, the more they’re likely to accept you really mean it. For that matter, include it in your wedding program too and feel free to use signs or chalkboards to really get the message across on the big day.

56

SPRING 2020

|

SAN JOAQUIN WEDDINGS

APPEAL TO AUTHORITY

Ask your officiant to make an announcement once all the guests are seated and then have your ushers or a coordinator from your venue enforce the request as necessary. It may be embarrassing for that first guest caught with their phone out, but others should quickly get the idea. Be sure to get your photographer on board – chances are they’ll be more than happy to help you ensure phones stay off. After all, it makes their job easier, too. Make sure your wedding party is well aware. If guests see the Maid of Honor snapping away, they might think the tech ban has been lifted.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

Perhaps the best way to get your guests on board with this is to point out that a phonefree wedding will be a benefit to everyone. To help guests enjoy the moment, reassure them that you will happily provide them with the photographer’s photos of the ceremony and remind them they will be welcome to take photos at the reception.

LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE

Consider having a secure phone storage station where guests can easily label and leave their phones. Don’t try to make this mandatory as people will be reluctant to part with their tech and some may want to keep it on hand for emergencies even if they have no intention of violating your no-phone request. But just having the option available should make it clear that you’re serious about your wishes.

BRIDAL

BOUQUET 101 WHERE TO START WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS  BY MEGAN MEINTASIS

/ FLOWERS: EFFLORESCENCE FLORAL DESIGN

A bride’s bouquet should both reflect and compliment who she is in the same way that her wedding dress and shoes do. For most brides to be, planning a wedding means working with an event stylist or florist for the first time ever. It’s a common mistake for brides to begin their wedding floral planning process by searching out local florists based on pricing alone, then assuming that whichever florist is chosen will be able to create the dream look. Since most event florists have a signature look and style of their own, this approach can result in unnecessary frustration. Instead, follow these tips. First, determine your personal floral style. If you have this figured out, it’s much easier to choose a florist that will be a natural fit. This in turn makes the whole experience much more enjoyable

and leaves less room for disappointment or unmet expectations come the wedding day. But what if the bride-to-be isn’t sure what her floral style is? No need to stress. Creating an inspiration board on Pinterest is a great way to figure this out! Just grab a latte and start pinning away. It’s beneficial to start by deciding whether the event style is more timeless and classic or modern and trendy. Then, go from there and consider using these phrases in your search. Helpful hint: It’s good to know what you want but also try not to get stuck on just one picture. Instead, focus on being able to express the overall look and color scheme you are going for rather than the exact bouquet you want recreated. This both gives the florist room to be creative and ensures that you’ll have a bouquet that is unique to you. Also, since a big part of the cost is related to the type of flowers being used in a bouquet, a florist is a lot more likely to be able to give you your dream

look on a budget if you help them understand the overall style you are wanting in a series of photos, rather than presenting them with a single photo of a bouquet. Lastly, and most importantly, don’t forget to relax, and enjoy the process. Afterall, you’re getting married!

Forever Flowers

WOOD BOUQUETS ARE A LASTING MEMENTO OF THE BIG DAY  BY FAITH LEWIS colored any hue to perfectly match your theme. If that wasn’t good enough, sola wooden bouquets won’t add to the carbon footprint of your big day; they are made from 100 percent biodegradable, sustainable material. If your budget-conscious, consider this. Sola wooden flowers are an affordable alternative to fresh flowers, and in most cases cost less. The average fresh flower bridal bouquet can set you back as much as $350 or $400. A wooden bouquet is typically closer to $150. Of course, every bride knows the importance of planning ahead for the big day and this is no exception. As the bouquets are handcrafted, it can take time to complete an order, especially if you’re ordering several pieces. Plan to place your order six months before your big day. If you’ve fallen in love with the idea of a wooden bouquet for your big day, don’t stop there. The options are limited only by your imagination: go wooden for bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, hair pieces, centerpieces, and any other floral elements of your big day.

Say goodbye to wilted flowers and browning leaves. If you want a bouquet that will look as fresh on your fifth or even fiftieth anniversary as it did on your wedding day, opt for a sola wood wedding bouquet. You might be questioning how wooden flowers could possibly compare to real blooms, but thanks to the way these blooms are crafted, you’ll have a hard time distinguishing them from fresh-cut flowers. Made from thin sections of sola wood shaved off the roots of the tropical tapioca plant, these flowers are incredibly delicate and can be crafted to resemble any flower you could dream of, even if your dream bloom is out of season and unavailable for your wedding date. An added benefit of using sola wood is that it is naturally ivory, so you can walk down the aisle with a bouquet as white as your gown or the flowers can easily be

Caring for your bouquet While far more durable than real flowers, a wooden bouquet is far from indestructible. Treat your flowers carefully, especially when transporting them. History of Sparkling Lodi Wines

While Lodi has been producing sparkling wines for decades, the quality of bubbly coming out of the region has improved dramatically in recent years. More local wineries are crafting their sparkling wines using the traditional champenoise method, which has been utilized by French winemakers for centuries. The result—higher quality wines worthy of even the finest celebrations.

Sparkling 101 A GUIDE TO THE GOOD STUFF  BY SUZANNE LEDBETTER “Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right,” The infamous quote from the iconic American writer, Mark Twain, is spot on. It’s the perfect pour to celebrate any occasion. Because let’s be honest, bubbly is always the answer. While champagne’s roots run deep in France, around here it’s known by another name—sparkling wine. We put together a quick tutorial on everything you need to know about sparkling wine from Lodi. From the grapes used, to the best local finds, and the proper way to open a bottle, you can consider yourself an expert in the field with our guide to sparkling 101!

The Grapes

In France, champagne is created using a combination of three grape varieties: chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier. For decades, wineries in our region have crafted sparkling wines from picking chardonnay and pinot noir early in the growing season. But in the last few years we are seeing bubbly made from unique varieties that flourish in the Lodi wine appellation. Winemakers are choosing grapes like grenache blanc, viognier, verdejo, sauvignon blanc, and carignane, resulting in beautiful sips for any celebration.

and open their sparkling with a loud pop, they are doing it all wrong. The goal is to release the cork gently and slowly, resulting in more of a pfsst sound! But how do you do it? First things first. Safety is of the utmost importance. This might sound a little silly, but trust us when we say, bubbly bottles can be temperamental. Once you have removed the foil and the wire basket surrounding the neck, keep

Serving Ideas

If we’re being honest, we prefer sparkling wine poured directly into a fluted glass enjoyed without fuss. But if drinking the good stuff straight isn’t your style, there are plenty of options to elevate your celebration. The most popular addition to sparkling wine is undoubtedly a dash of good ol’ vitamin C, (aka orange juice) but if you want to get fancy, you can whip up a traditional Kir Royale by putting a dash or two of crème de cassis. The elixir adds a subtle splash of sweetness and color. You can also make any sparkling wine seasonal by simply adding a few pieces of whatever fruit is in currently in season. Try adding blueberries in spring, strawberries in summer, and fresh cranberries near the holidays. Expert Tip: Hold the glass at an angle when pouring from the bottle. This increases the surface area of the wine in the neck of the bottle, minimizing spillage.

Proper Opening Techniques

We don’t want to spoil your fun with uncorking the bottle, but when folks are feeling festive

The pressure inside a bottle of bubbly is known to unexpectedly disgorge the cork and can fly across the room causing injury to a guest’s face. That’s a sure-fire way to ruin any celebration. Want to look like a pro? Hold the cork tight and rotate the bottle to gain greater leverage when uncorking.

Wedding

Planning

The

Perfect TIMELINE

Most engagements last 12-18 months (The Knot says 14.5 is the average), and that’s a lot of planning to cram into a short year to year and a half.

Don’t miss a thing—the perfect timeline will get you from engaged to married without fear or fuss. Take it one step at a time as we show you how to plan an entire wedding affair in just one year. Having a short engagement? Brides with six months to plan can double up months to make this list work for them.

MONTH 1

Start with the basics. Think of month one as your getting started month. This month you should: • Come up with a budget for the big day. • Start researching themes and pouring over bridal magazines for inspiration. • Make a team—hire a wedding planner, ask friends to serve in the wedding party, and determine what family members you can count on to help tackle these tasks. • Choose a wedding date. • Book a ceremony and reception site. • Get organized with a wedding binder. • Write the guest list.

MONTH 2

Start to hone in on the details. You have a lot of vendors to book. Don’t miss out because you waited too long to commit. This month you should: • Hire a wedding photographer and/or videographer. • Try on wedding gowns. • Nail down the entertainment for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

64

SPRING 2020

|

SAN JOAQUIN WEDDINGS

 BY NORA HESTON TARTE

• Schedule floral appointments and come in with ideas for décor, preferably photos and information about types of flowers and colors. • Create a registry. • Plan an engagement party. • Create and send your save the date cards.

MONTH 3

This is the month to book everything you haven’t yet. Nail down the rest of the vendors and get your deposits in. This month you should: • Officially book any remaining vendors. • Order your wedding gown so you have enough time for alterations. • Browse rental company showrooms and place orders for any items you need— flatware, tablecloths, chairs, tables, décor, etc. • Make a wedding website and start filling it with information for your guests. It’s best if you can include the website link on those save the date cards even if you haven’t built the website yet. • Pick a hotel to serve as home base for out-of-town guests. Don’t forget to ask about room blocks and special party rates. • Book a wedding officiant or ask a friend or family member to step in • Meet with caterers.

MONTH 4

The big stuff is taken care of and it’s time to get lost in the details. Don’t stress! This part of wedding planning should be fun, and it’s a great opportunity to include friends in the tasks. This month you should: • Shop for wedding invitations and bands (make sure you order by Month 6). • Start to talk about your honeymoon and

prepare for travel (get passports, find a travel planner, create a savings plan). • Start interviewing bakers, taste cakes, and decide on your dessert spread. • Take the girls and guys to pick out wedding attire. This gives the wedding party plenty of time to order on their own timeline.

MONTH 5

You’re getting closer. It’s time to make some final decisions. This month you should: • Order wedding invitations and get ready to send them (i.e.: pick up stamps, hire a calligrapher, etc.). • Start booking travel for the honeymoon to get the best deals on airfare, hotels, and more. • Book your baker. • Check on all the members of the wedding party to make sure they purchased the necessary attire. Ensure rented items will be in the right place at the right time, especially for out-of-town attendants.

MONTH 6

You’re halfway there! The big stuff should be handled by now, but this is a good time to start planning for the actual day. This month you should: • Attend pre-wedding counseling if required. • Write out a rough draft for the timeline. Consider where everyone needs to be at different parts of the day and how you want the reception to progress. • Book a hairstylist and makeup artist for you and members of your wedding party.

MONTH 7

Plan ahead. There isn’t just one day involved in a wedding. Get with friends and family to plan other affairs. This month you should: • Handle the rehearsal dinner—create the guest list, book the space, and send the invites. • Do your follow-ups. Do you need to check in with any vendors? Adjust timelines? • Book extras like a photo booth or food truck. • Look ahead to your shower. If someone else is planning it, pick a day and send the host your guest list. • Start the song list. The DJ or band sometimes has a standard form to fill out for this. If not, send special songs for the first dance and bouquet toss, plus a list of must play and any do-not-play songs.

MONTH 8

Get your final look together. This month you should: • Shop for and purchase wedding shoes and accessories. • Book and attend your wedding hair and makeup trials. Bring in inspiration photos for both. • Attend dress fittings as needed.

MONTH 9

Use month nine to finalize small details before launching into the wedding festivities. This month you should: • Finalize the menu. • Check in with the florist and make sure all pieces have been ordered. • Ask friends to speak at the wedding and add these speeches to your timeline. • Schedule another dress fitting if needed. • Finalize the timeline for the ceremony and reception. • Purchase rings if you haven’t already. • Handle the stationary—either order or create your own place cards, menus, programs, and more. • Order wedding favors.

MONTH 10

Most of the heavy lifting has been done, however, you’ll want to make sure everyone is on the same page. This is a good month to get your ducks in a row and focus on organization. This month you should: • Talk to all vendors and create a final plan. This includes going over the song list with the DJ, talking photos with the photographer, and going over any necessary details with the wedding planner, including items that may have changed. • Send wedding invitations. • Plan your night-of accommodations. • Purchase undergarments and try them on with your dress. • Attend your wedding shower.

MONTH 11

You’re in the home stretch! This month you should: • Attend your bachelor/ bachelorette party. • Start collecting RSVPs and creating a seating chart. • Purchase gifts for bridesmaids and groomsmen. • Have your final wedding dress fitting.

MONTH 12

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, schedule some time to relax and do one final check in with everybody. This month you should: • Confirm all appointments and check-in times with vendors. • Get a massage. • Write vows. • Update the wedding website with travel directions and itinerary for guests. • Buy booze for the bar (if not provided). • Send out final payments. • Get your marriage license. • Collect the final RSVPs and send the list to your venue. • Delegate tasks to others to handle on the big day. • Pick up your dress. • Pack for the wedding night and the honeymoon. • Get any and all final items to the wedding planner for set-up. • Attend the rehearsal dinner.
