Creating Designs With Paper Filigree
Explore Line, Shape, Form and Texture Creating Designs With Paper Filigree
Supplies: cardboard base (I used a 7x7in square), color papers, old magazines, pencil, ruler, cutting tools, cardboard for cutting surface, glue, a slender stick to coil the paper (a chopstick works great!), toothpicks to apply the glue, waxed paper for nonstick gluing surface.

Cut strips of paper (using the cutting tools you have) into narrow strips (I cut ½ inchwide by 6 inch long strips, using scissors. You can adjust the length and width of the strips to your project!) Sketch a plan for your design (see my heart-shaped drawing?) You can use different kinds of paper. I used construction paper with strips of magazine paper. Mix it up if you want to!! Begin coiling paper around a skewer or chopstick to create paper filigree forms.
Before gluing, arrange paper filigree forms into desired composition. Glue shapes onto your base one by one-- adding liquid glue to the forms with a toothpick, or by gently dipping the pieces into the glue on your waxed paper surface.
