THE WAVE
MIXED USE BUILDING SITE
Location: Sanepa, Lalitpur district, Nepal
Area: 745 sq.m.
Surroundings: Mixed use buildings, commercial buildings, residential buildings and temple
MIXED USE BUILDING
The wave houses retail shops at ground floor, gym and restaurant in first floor, offices in second floor and apartments in third, fourth and fifth floors. The apartments are of three types; they are 1BHK, 2BHK and 3BHK, considering different types of users. The roof top is only accessible to residents of apartment as per security concerns. Stramp is given for universal access. Parking provision is given in underground floor. The food court lies above parking entrance.
CONCEPT
The main facade of the building faces West. The longitudinal side of the site is East-West oriented. Therefore for optimum sunlight the Northen side is higher and the Southern side is lower. Respecting the site, the blocks are aligned to North and South of the side. The waves are formed to recieve ample sunlight to the building along with the breezes for proper ventilation. Also curved terraces provides large range of view of the area with proper sunlight and shade. The form of the building is inspired from fluid architecture which means buildings with curved surfaces. architectural fluid dynamics concerns flow in and around the buildings, ventilation of buildings and quality of air and linkage of flow( interior and exterior complex).

MASTER PLAN
Stramp is provied for universal access at the entrance creating vibrant entrance. The food court lies above the parking entrance. Skylight is provided for the natural light in the basement. The washrooms have universal access. Retail shops lies in this floor.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION
Main entrance is wide and welcoming. The vehicular access and pedestrian access are separate to avoid hazards. A complex is attractive and responds to and is consistent with the design and context of the neighbourhood, builds a sense of pride and ownership among the residents. As the North portion of the building does not receive the proper daylight, the vertical circulation space and toilets are placed here. Circulation and the pathways are spacious and guiding.
The building is universally designed for differently abled people. Thought must be given to the size and scale of buildings located in the area when determining the maximum height of the structure. Standard setbacks are applied in order to provide an adequate buffer zone between buildings, minimize fire hazards by providing access for firefighting equipment and prevent discharge of rainwater from roofs to adjoining properties.a corner plot between a minor and a major road, access off the minor road is preferable.
Landscaping is regarded as an essential feature since it serves to enhance and complement the appearance and visual appeal of built features on the site. The ease of future maintenance is an important consideration in the planning of the site and will influence the choice of plants and materials to be used.
VERTICAL DIVISION
The complex is designed focusing public-private accessiblity. The ground floor is accessible to all where as the basement, first floor and second floor are semi public zone. Therefore these places are limited to public. Apartments are classified as private zone which lies at third floor, fourth floor and fifth floor of the building.

SITE
Location:Lagankhel, Nepal

Surroundings: Lagankhel bus park, Vegetable market, Tempo stop
CONCEPT
A space catering to people from different age groups and backgrounds who can enjoy the park space. The core idea is to integrate learning area, playful area and relaxing area with natural elements. Respecting the history of site, wooden sculptures with stone inscriptions base depict the story of Rato Machhindranath. And the bridge connects the site to the surroundings and gives a place for people to view the chaos of the city and jatra during the festive time. The space under the bridge has swings for children to play and the pathway to it has half balls creating a playful area in the park. The curved bench is given in such a way that maximizes the sitting space where an incorporated tree gives shade. The amphitheater is given for informal sitting in a relaxing way. The green space of the park helps to purify air quality and reduce noise entering into the site from the surroundings. These interlace harmoniously with the components of the park. The hedges and shrubs create a boundary to the site and gives a clear entryway. Overall, it is a natural blend of the chaos and crowd of urban life.

In amid of a crowded and chaotic urban space, creating a place that respects the location for locals and people coming to the buspark. The site is situated near (south of) Lagankhel bus park and a mother tree of Rato Machhindranath where chariot circumambulates during procession of jatra, therefore, it has historical and cultural importance. Therefore the spaces are designed for all, from children to elderly, regular day to jatra day, locals to visitors that everyone could have a place.

DESIGN SITE
Location: Tikathali Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur district, Nepal
Area: 105 ropani, Total available land: 61 ropani

SITE FEATURES
The site for the project lies on the North of Godawari khola Bridge and main street of the settlement. Godawari River passes through the site. High tension lines lies along East West of the site.
CONCEPT
Affinity housing is designed to create common spaces on various levels and an environment for collective growth of the residents sharing their feelings, intentions, attitudes, experiences and social part of life. Housing is designed with an axis along river with landscapes, major roads and riverfront and distribution of housing spaces and landscape with respect to it and perpendicular axis. The approach is to design a housing which shares a shares a common space on residence level, surrounding and community level. Housing with different units share common backyards, common gardens in row and detached as well common terraces on each levels of apartment and a large landscaped garden for each housing type.
One of the important part of the design is landscape and green spaces. The riverbank is designed with a three strip vegetation, walking and seating area in the entire housing giving that experience of living in the part of nature. Interactive communal gardens, parks as a central landscape of housing. The design aims in coexistence of river, plants and buildings creating pleasant urban landscape.

CONTOUR ANALYSIS
Cutting and filling taking in account of original contour heights and developing in considerations with road networks and housing placements.
ROAD NETWORK
The main collector road is N-S along river and it distributes E-W into the housing of width 6m and has interconnecting bridges. The slopes with the contour levels is shown above.
SITE SPACE ALLOCATION
AXIS DEVELOPMENT
The main axis is green axis in N-S direction along the river, offers overall view of the site along the line, walkability, and as main street and riverfront spaces.
COMMUNITY AREA
Community area as central focal point of activities. Has recreational area, community building, landscape, plaza and play area. It also has cultural zone, farmers market and stepped riverside amphitheater and access to public with controlled entry point.
RIVERSIDE AND GARDENS
Riverside with walkways and trees. Interacting communal gardens for different housing types. Cleaning and river waste management achieving clean river.
HOUSING DENSITY
The housing has varying density profiles encouraging alternate user experiences and addressing different population groups. The high rise apartment placed at north to avoid light blockage and allowing entire view of site along river axis. Villas at eastern side and have landscape riverside perks.
ROAD SIDE BY THE RIVER
The roadside has a green line which creates a barrier between road and river. Also provides a safe space during monsoon flooding.

HOUSING
There are four types of housing:
1. Row housing (2.5-3 aana)
2. 3 BHK housing (4-4.5 aana)
3. 4 BHK housing (4.5-5 aana)
4. Villa (8-12 aana)
APARTMENT
The concept is mainly guided by the idea of receding terraces to maximize the amount of sunlight. The common terrace can act as an interaction space. Each terrace is connected by alternate staircase which creates the idea of hill climbing experience in the urban context. The apartment units are accessed through three service cores via common corridor. The central courtyard acts as a common space through landscape elements.

COMMUNITY CENTRE
The community centre is designed for multiuser interaction experience and is a space for gathering, events, outdoor-indoor activities, recreational and functional activities. Different surfaces of the landscape are created giving an ambient environment along with the natural landscapes with different variance of shrubs, trees and grasses. The building itself is minimal and linearly designed and has inside-out spaces, indoor spaces for administration activities, health care and workouts, studying, day-care, and different events. The entr y to the community space has been given to public as well to increase the local people’s interaction in the area also as a method of giving back to public and increasing public stewardship.

Main deity in the sanctum - Visvesvara Mahadeva
Date of construction : 1804 B.S. (274 year old)
Constructed by : Bharari’s from Sringeri, mysore, South India
Reason : Promoting Shaivainism

MASTERPLAN
There are several changes done in the existing building. For Hastakala, a handicraft centre, blocks were added for the storage and heavy machinary works done during the process of manufacturing goods.
Patan is known for its art, architecture and craftsmanship. The town is gifted with artists and skilled craftsmen. Various kind of Handicraft shops are in numerous number in each alley. Having objective to promote traditional handicrafts and cultural identity, we proposed a handicraft centre based on metal and wood work. The centre comprises of Shop, Workshop and Training area. The manufactured goods are of small scale such as jewellry, souvenirs and decors. This also encourage people in learning traditional skills of the craft, provide training and employment for the interested people. Handicraft centre would attract people to explore the traditional crafts of Nepal and engage them in process of making goods.

CHANGES
The changes are made following the five allowable tasks; consolidation, anastylosis, libration, completion and innovation. The location of staircases are changed and placed in new space. Later added walls on collonade spaces are removed to give the spacious falcha the way it was initially was. Windows and doors are replaced as per requirement of the rooms. Jhingati tiles will replace the existing CGI sheets roof. Minimum interventions are done in the building to and if possible the originality of the building is tried to restored. Wet areas are allocated at additional block.
