Does Your Audi Jerks When You Give it Gas? Here is What Could it Mean Introduction

Jerking or shaking of cars is a very strange behavior of vehicles. This is a very annoying symptom of some issues in the car. Jerking spoils the mood of the passengers. Imagine you have to accelerate to get a desired speed so that you can arrive at your destination in time, but when you press the gas pedal, you find that the car is jerking instead of accelerating fast, definitely you would not like to apply gas pedal any more. If such problem happens, you would surely get into any problem while on the roads. Here you will know about the Audi jerking while accelerating.

Jerks while you give gas in Audi

Jerking while in the car can make the passengers very uncomfortable. Your car would give small or larger jerks forward and it would make you feel like you are driving on a very rocky or bumpy road. The car would simply shake which would have impact on the passengers in the cabin. Jerking is a sign that there is something in your engine, or transmission, any axles or at wheels which doesn’t allow the car to move smoothly. Jerking also have a negative impact on various parts in the car.

When the gas pedal or the accelerator pedal is applied, the engine control module simply makes adjustments in the fuel and the air flow to the engine, which increases the amount of fuel and air in combustion chamber due to increase in demand of the power. So more the fuel and air, more would be the power to accelerate the car. So some problems in the supply of air, fuel or in the combustion or in the mechanical components. Jerking may make them wear or loosened. In Audi, such jerks while accelerating has become more a common issue. Here I’m gonna discuss about some common causes of shaking while applying the gas pedal

Dirty air filter

If the air filter has become very dirty due to trapping of impurities, then it would block the flow of air. Lack of air in the engine cannot burn the fuel, hence misfire would occur, leading to jerks while accelerating as the demand of air increase, but there is no more air.

Clogged fuel system

The fuel system perform to supply fuel to the engine. There are certain parts in this system that get clogged due to accumulation or dirt or due to some damages. Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, etc. gets clogged sometimes which blocks the flow of fuel to the engine. Even if some amount of fuel flows, but it would not be sufficient to produce enough power to accelerate the car.

Faults in ignition system

Ignition system consists of spark plugs, ignition coils, glow plugs, etc. which fire and burn the fuel. Even if there is no faults in air and fuel supply, faults in these ignition components would make them fail to burn the fuel.

Faulty catalytic converter

The catalytic converter make the exhaust gasses to get free from toxic gasses. It also allows the engine to breath because the gasses at exhaust pass through the converter to the tailpipe. Sometimes, the converter get clogged with toxic substance that block the flow of exhaust gas. As it would not escape out, the engine would not be able to take new fresh air.

Faulty gas cable

There is a cable attached to the gas pedal. It pulls open the throttle when the pedal is pressed. When the throttle is opened, it makes the car accelerate. If the cable is damaged or torn, then the throttle would not function.

Distributor cap having moisture

The distributor cap having moisture would make problems while accelerating. This especially happens during a very cold or snowy weather when moisture gets into the cap.

Conclusion

You need to check all these parts if the car is jerking. To replace any faulty parts, you can take your Audi to your dealer.
