Some of the world’s most beautiful sights and extraordinary experiences can be found within a short distance from campus.

Silicon Valley

Riddle:

What happens when a 162-year-old Jesuit university has grown up in and helped shape the same valley as Apple, Intel, Netflix, eBay, Google, and hundreds of other companies, from Fortune 500s to tiny start-ups?

Answer: Synergy.

Silicon Valley with values and heart. The Jesuit tradition of engagement with the world meets the Silicon Valley flurry of innovation, entrepreneurship, venture capitalism, creativity, and just plain buzz.

Another answer: Opportunity.

Unlimited internship and career opportunities in one of the most desirable locations on the planet. For instance, Red Seraphim is a video game start-up, co-founded by SCU alums from the classes of 2010 and 2011. Up-and-coming serial entrepreneur Diane Keng, a computer engineering junior, had two start-ups under her belt at the age of 19 and launched a third venture called MyWeboo— a website that aggregates and updates social media and Web content.

Jesuit Education

Tanya Schmidt Ideal example of the “whole person.” She was captain of the volleyball team, president of the English honor society, finalist for the 2012 Rhodes Scholarship, liturgical organizer for Campus Ministry, and member of the Gospel Choir—to name a few of her activities at SCU. And she did it all with a GPA just shy of 4.0.

Ultimate Match:

Is there a Jesuit philosophy of education? Absolutely. You will be challenged intellectually, spiritually, and physically. This is what the Jesuits call “the education of the whole person. In this holistic environment, you will gain the knowledge required to succeed and develop a sense of global responsibility.

Mind, Body, and Spirit But, what if you are not Catholic? Half the Santa Clara student body is not. The Jesuits take pride in supporting all faith traditions.

Community-Based Learning

The world is your classroom. You will learn by doing, applying what is discussed in class, and providing a helping hand to a community organization. What follows in the classroom is an in-depth reflection and analysis of your experience, deepening your understanding of our societal realities. You will discover that this is more than service or volunteerism. Yes, the other person has been helped, but you are the one who is transformed.

Faculty

The interactions you will have with your professors will be among your most important experiences at SCU. We take this student-faculty relationship seriously and strongly support the “teaching-scholar” model of education. We believe students learn best when their professors’ love of teaching is informed by their active research.

What does this mean for you? It means that SCU’s faculty are respected scholars in their fields, but they are first and foremost here to help you explore, question, learn, and achieve.
